Nairaland GeneralCBIAMEC Back Nigeria’s Clean Energy Push, Applaud Ecn’s Commitment by Amara246(op): 8:57pm On May 02, 2025
.... Endorses Solar Drive, Sets Sights on 2030 Energy Targets
• ..Urges Journalists to Support, Not Sabotage Nigeria’s Clean Energy Transition

In a renewed push for sustainable national development, civil society organizations have thrown their weight behind Nigeria’s shift to renewable energy, commending the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) for its commitment to powering underserved communities through clean energy solutions.

Under the umbrella of the CSOs Budget Implementation, Assessment, Monitoring, and Evaluation Committee (CBIAMEC), stakeholders held a press briefing in Abuja themed “Powering Nigeria’s Future: Advocating for a National Shift Toward Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development.”

Speaking at the event on Friday, CBIAMEC Chairman, Ambassador Splendour Agbonkpolor, emphasized that renewable energy holds the key to unlocking economic prosperity, job creation, and climate resilience. He described Nigeria’s energy access gap, where over 85 million citizens still lack electricity as a national emergency that demands bold, innovative, and inclusive solutions.

“We are here today not just to speak truth to power, but to align with power that works for the people. Renewable energy is not just a technology; it’s a tool for justice, equity, and human dignity.”Agbonkpolor said.

The committee particularly commended FG for its strategic initiatives aimed at deploying 4 megawatts of renewable energy in all 36 states and the FCT, as well as a separate plan to deliver 5 megawatts to every local government in partnership with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

“These projects are not only ambitious, they are necessary. They represent a real chance to lift communities out of darkness, boost local economies, and bring Nigeria closer to its renewable energy target of 30% by 2030.” Agbonkpolor noted.

The committee also addressed the ongoing ₦10 billion in the 2025 approved budget for the installation of a solar mini-grid at the Presidential Villa. While acknowledging growing media interest and public scrutiny of the initiative, CBIAMEC clarified that its position is not one of opposition but of constructive engagement.

“We had a fruitful interface with the Director General of ECN where detailed clarifications were provided on procurement procedures, project scope, and transparency mechanisms. The Commission assured us that all steps are being taken in line with the Public Procurement Act, including competitive bidding and regular performance audits.” Agbonkpolor added.

The group pledged to serve as an independent watchdog, monitoring the implementation to ensure the solar intervention truly benefits the people and delivers value for every kobo spent. “We will be vigilant, objective, and fact-driven in our oversight role.”

Meanwhile the Committee also raised concerns over what it described as “media trials” that could derail public trust and investment in renewable energy projects. It urged journalists to uphold ethical standards, verify information, and avoid sensationalism that may hinder national progress.

“We are not calling for silence, we are calling for responsibility. The media has a powerful role to play in this transition, not as saboteurs, but as storytellers of change and partners in development.” he restated.

The briefing concluded with a five-point call to action, encouraging households to explore solar home systems, innovators to invest in green technology, communities to support mini-grid projects, policymakers to prioritize renewable energy in national planning, and the media to amplify success stories in the sector.

Nairaland GeneralBudgit: CSO Urges Thorough Investigations To Prevent Misrepresentation by Amara246(op): 10:04pm On Apr 26, 2025
.... Sheds Light on Projects Linked to FCC Oji River
• ...Calls for Strengthened Civic Engagement, Public Accountability Efforts

The African Leadership Strategy, Transparency Development Initiative (ALSTDI) has urged civic organization BudgIT to conduct thorough investigations and factual verifications before publishing reports on public projects, cautioning that inaccurate reporting could inadvertently mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of credible institutions.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Nelson Ossaieze, on Saturday, the organization reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, good governance, and institutional accountability through independent monitoring and constructive engagement.

The call followed ALSTDI’s independent fact-finding assessment, conducted as part of its corporate social responsibility activities, which addressed claims in BudgIT’s 2023/2024 Tracka report alleging that certain projects linked to the Federal Cooperative College (FCC), Oji River, were abandoned.
ALSTDI explained that its investigation, which entailed continuous procurement monitoring since 2021 and a recent physical verification exercise, confirmed that the projects in question were neither abandoned nor mismanaged, contrary to the allegations.

The statement read:
“The misrepresented projects cited include:
ERGP30212691 – Fencing of Government Boys Secondary School, Ibusa, Delta State:
Our findings reveal that the project was carried out at St. Thomas Boys College, Ibusa, and not Government Boys Secondary School as stated in the Tracka report. The construction company involved is Tonigate Multinational Services Ltd., a registered firm with verified records at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The fencing of over three hectares of land has been completed and is currently in use.
ERGP20231932 – Furnishing of a Hospital in Zone 9, Okafia, Bende L.G.A., Abia State:
Our findings disclosed that this was a constituency project sponsored by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, with the hospital sited in Igbere, not Okafia. Executed by Swiber Africa Ltd., the furnishing project was completed in 2023. However, the medical equipment is securely stored within the hospital pending the deployment of healthcare personnel and the resolution of security challenges in the area.”

ALSTDI noted that the Tracka report may have relied on assumptions without exhaustive verification, and that no Freedom of Information (FOI) request was sent to FCC Oji River for clarification before publication.

The group emphasized that while the contributions of civic organizations to transparency and accountability are commendable, such efforts must be built on rigorous fact-checking and direct engagement with institutions to maintain public trust.

“Our findings, supported by pictorial and documentary evidence, have been submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for formal review,” the statement added.

ALSTDI further recommended that civic actors should prioritize detailed field assessments and open institutional communication to ensure accuracy in public reporting, thereby strengthening Nigeria’s democratic accountability mechanisms.

Nairaland GeneralArewa Voters Assembly Alleges Destabilization Of Northern CAN by Amara246(op): 9:15pm On Apr 06, 2025
.... Calls for Restraint

The Arewa Voters Assembly (AVA), has issued a scathing press statement accusing the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC), Bishop Stephen Adegbite, of fueling disunity and instigating crisis within the Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

In a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Comrade Maishanu Babajir, and the Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Malangu, AVA expressed deep concern over what it described as "misplaced priorities and gestapo-style leadership" since Bishop Adegbite assumed office.

According to AVA, the tenure of Bishop Adegbite has been marked by avoidable controversies, administrative high-handedness, and divisive maneuvers, including shadowboxing his predecessor and orchestrating unjust dismissals of legitimate staff members of the Commission. The group claimed that these dismissals were later overturned by two separate rulings from the National Industrial Court (NIC), which rejected what was termed “obnoxious and unlawful” terminations.

AVA also alleged that rather than focusing on the mandate of the NCPC, Bishop Adegbite has consistently sought to assert undue influence over religious leadership structures, including an unsuccessful attempt to hijack the Lagos State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN). The group now accuses him of replicating the same tactics in the North with the support of Rev. John Hayab, a former Kaduna CAN spokesperson.

The group claimed that Rev. Hayab has become a "willing tool" in the hands of Bishop Adegbite and other unnamed political actors seeking to install a new leadership in Northern CAN through what it described as an "illegal and kangaroo" process. AVA alleged that the attempt seeks to undermine the longstanding protocols of CAN and disenfranchise stakeholders from other northern states for political expediency.

According to AVA, the move is not only divisive but reckless and potentially subjudicial, as issues concerning Northern CAN leadership are already subject to legal proceedings. The group warned that any attempt to circumvent the judicial process could further escalate tensions and damage the integrity of the Christian body in Northern Nigeria.

The statement further defended Rev. Yakubu Pam, the former Executive Secretary of NCPC and erstwhile Chairman of Northern CAN, stating that he has been unfairly targeted in a smear campaign engineered to destroy his reputation. AVA described Rev. Pam as a unifying figure who has dedicated his ministry to promoting peace, national unity, and interfaith harmony. They added that Pam has never declared any political ambition nor shown interest in vying for political office, including the rumored position of Vice Presidential candidate.

“Rather than commend his consistent peacebuilding efforts across the northern states, some political charlatans masquerading as priests have made it their mission to destroy his legacy,” the group stated, alleging that the motive behind these actions is to curry political favor and pave way for future ambitions under the guise of spiritual leadership.

AVA also challenged the sponsors of the current Northern CAN leadership crisis to redirect their energy toward resolving more pressing issues, such as identifying the beneficiaries of ransom payments in the wave of Christian abductions in Kaduna and other parts of the North.

The group condemned what it called “cash-and-carry” politics and emphasized that the recent developments have been met with disdain and rejection by the majority of Christians in the North who are familiar with the antecedents of those involved.

In conclusion, AVA called on Bishop Adegbite to focus on delivering on the mandate of the NCPC rather than meddling in the affairs of religious organizations. It also urged Rev. Hayab and his backers to retrace their steps and avoid further polarization of the Christian community in Northern Nigeria.

“Hijacking the body of Christ for strange political agendas is not only a disservice to the Christian faith but a grave injustice to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose administration stands to be undermined by such destabilizing actions,” the statement concluded.

Nairaland GeneralAbia North Road: CSO Investigative Council Absolves Fcc-oji River by Amara246(op): 9:10pm On Apr 03, 2025
....Urges Contractor to Address Quality Concerns

The Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Investigative Council has released a statement responding to the allegations of poor construction of the Abariba-Ohafia to Ndi Okoroc Road in Abia North Senatorial District, Abia State.

This statement, signed by the council's convener, Comrade Nelson Ossaieze, was made available to newsmen on Tuesday following an investigation prompted by an online protest from Tochukwu Ogbuagu, an indigene of the area and a social media influencer with Kepukepu TV.

Ogbuagu, using video evidence, accused Swiber Africa Limited, the contractor responsible for the road construction, of substandard work, particularly in the extended section of the road. His video showing what appeared to be shoddy construction practices and the poor state of the road gained significant public attention, prompting the CSO Investigative Council to conduct an independent assessment.

According to the CSO Investigative Council, the road project was initially awarded for a 600-meter stretch, with a budget of ₦250 million. The project was funded as a constituency initiative by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, with the scope including the construction of the road and the installation of two side drains. This initial phase of the project, the council confirmed, was completed according to specifications and in compliance with the outlined bill of quantities. No major issues were raised concerning the original 600-meter stretch.

However, following the completion of the initial phase, the community, including traditional leaders, petitioned Senator Kalu to extend the road by an additional 400 meters. Responding to this request, Senator Kalu according to report, generously funded the extension with an additional ₦52 million, which was paid directly to Swiber Africa Limited. The council’s further revealed that the portion of the road funded for extension was the focus of the controversy, where concerns over poor construction were raised.

They also noted that while the original 600 meters were constructed to the prescribed standards, the extended section exhibited signs of premature wear and tear. The extended 400-meter stretch showed inadequate road layering and drainage issues, leading to the road deteriorating at a much faster rate than expected. These findings were corroborated with local feedback, as residents noted issues such as pooling water and visible cracks along the newly constructed stretch.

In its statement, the CSO Investigative Council stressed that the deficiencies observed were primarily in the extension, which was managed and funded separately by Senator Kalu, and was not part of the original contract monitored by the Federal Cooperative College Oji River, which had oversight responsibility for the initial project. The council confirmed that the college had no involvement in overseeing the extension works, thereby absolving them of any responsibility for the alleged deficiencies.

It however, called on Swiber Africa Limited to address the substandard work done on the extended section, urging the contractor to carry out urgent remediation work while recommending resurfacing the road, reinforcing its layers, and improving the drainage system to meet the required engineering specifications.

The Council stressing the need for a thorough investigation before publicizing such issues, urged Senator Kalu to work with the contractor to address problems in the extension, ensuring its quality matches the original project.

Furthermore, the council commend the Federal Cooperative College Oji River for its commitment to transparency and accountability in public infrastructure projects. They emphasized the need for more support for independent oversight and called for future constituency projects to include more robust monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar issues.

Finally the council reaffirmed that, while the original project met expectations, the extension funded by Senator Kalu needed to be reviewed and appeal to the Senator to look into this matter urgently

Nairaland GeneralAdvocates Petition Minister Of Interior, Tunji-ojo, Over Alleged Extortion by Amara246(op):
....Diversion in Kuje Prison
• ..Alleges Illegal Levies, Hoarding of Relief Materials, and Unauthorized Raids

A group of concerned advocates has petitioned the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, over alleged extortion, diversion of relief materials, and unauthorized raids at Kuje Custodial Centre.

The petition, signed by Dr. S.D. Okoro, Esq., on behalf of Law Theatre on March 28, 2025, accused the Controller of Corrections- FCT Command, Bosun Ajibogun, of imposing illegal levies on inmates, misappropriating welfare donations, and conducting unauthorized operations within the facility.

According to multiple sources within the correctional facility, on March 15, 2025, inmates were allegedly forced to pay a total of N750,000 under the guise of a “phone allowance.” The charge, which has no legal basis in the Nigeria Correctional Service Act, was reportedly imposed under duress, with non-compliant inmates allegedly facing intimidation. A senior correctional officer who spoke on condition of anonymity described the levy as outright extortion, stating that the money was collected without documentation or legal justification.

The petition further alleges that relief materials donated by a philanthropic organization for inmate welfare were diverted. The consignment, which reportedly included rice, noodles, spaghetti, milk, sugar, and other essential provisions, allegedly never reached the intended beneficiaries. A source at the facility claimed that none of the donated items were distributed to the inmates, alleging that they were hoarded and shared among officers close to the prison leadership.

The allegations took a more serious turn on March 26, 2025, when an armed squad reportedly conducted an unauthorized raid at Kuje Custodial Centre at approximately 8:30 PM. Eyewitnesses allege that the operation, carried out without approval from the Comptroller General of Corrections or the Minister of Interior, involved officers storming inmates’ cells and forcefully seizing cash, personal belongings, and even critical legal documents. A senior NCoS officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that internal checks at the service headquarters showed no official directive for the operation, stating that the raid was conducted without due process and inmates had their belongings confiscated without accountability.

They restated that despite mounting accusations, the implicated official has reportedly maintained that the actions were carried out under directives from higher authorities. However, officials at the Nigeria Correctional Service headquarters have denied issuing any such orders, insisting that no approval was given for the alleged extortion, diversion of relief materials, or unauthorized raids.
Nairaland GeneralALGON BOT Raises Alarm Over CBN Control Of Local Government Accounts by Amara246(op): 9:09pm On Mar 08, 2025
...Urges AGF to Uphold Constitutional Intent
...Says CBN’s Role Will Expose LG Funds to Fraudulent Garnishee Orders
....Demands Investigation into Alleged Financial Mismanagement in ALGON

The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has strongly opposed the recommendation that revenue allocation accounts for Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) be domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a letter signed by its Secretary General, Mohammed I. Abubakar on
Thursday, the ALGON BOT called on the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to intervene and uphold the intention of Section 162(5)(6)(7)(cool of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, by ensuring that
Local Government revenue accounts remain under commercial banks rather than the CBN.

The BOT warned that allowing the CBN to control these funds would create unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles and expose Local Government allocations to fraudulent garnishee orders by individuals and groups claiming to be creditors of ALGON and Local Governments.

The letter, titled "Application/Plea to Uphold the Intention of the Draftsman in Section 162(5)(6)(7)(cool of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As Amended)," was written in response to ongoing deliberations by a sub-committee of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s (SGF) Inter-Ministerial Committee, which is reportedly considering recommending the use of CBN for Local Government accounts.

The BOT accused the CBN of consistently creating obstacles that disrupt the smooth operation of Local Government funds, particularly through encumbrances placed on money belonging to Local Governments. It noted that the CBN has previously denied maintaining accounts for Local Governments, yet is now being positioned as the sole custodian of their funds.

“Should these accounts be forcibly opened with the CBN, it would create an avenue for individuals and groups who claim to be creditors of ALGON and Local Governments to freely exploit and siphon these funds through fraudulent garnishee orders.”it warned.

The ALGON BOT, particularly accused Barrister Mrs. Evan Enekwe of playing a leading role in facilitating fraudulent garnishee orders, which the BOT says are unconstitutional and designed to divert Local Government funds for personal gain.

It cited a March 5, 2025, letter signed by Enekwe and addressed to Local Government Chairmen, in which she allegedly made a fundamental error by falsely stating that the Supreme Court judgment on Local Government financial autonomy was delivered on July 11, 2025, rather than the correct date of July 11, 2024. The BOT described this as a glaring and embarrassing blunder that exposes her lack of understanding of ALGON's governance structure and desperation to manipulate the system.

Furthermore, the BOT emphasized that there is no constitutional provision in ALGON for a position known as "Director General," a title which Enekwe allegedly assumes. The only recognized position in ALGON's Constitution is that of Secretary General, making her claims and actions illegitimate and misleading.

Beyond the issue of garnishee orders, the BOT also accused Enekwe of playing a significant role in the questionable mortgaging of ALGON’s property, Abia House, alleging that this was done without due consultation or approval from legitimate stakeholders.

The letter further described the sale or mortgaging of such a critical ALGON asset as a direct betrayal of the association’s interests, stating that it was motivated by greed and a calculated attempt to strip ALGON of its valuable assets for the benefit of a select few.

“Such blatant financial recklessness must not go unpunished,” the BOT declared.
In light of these concerns, ALGON BOT called on the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate and take decisive action against fraudulent garnishee orders, financial mismanagement, and unconstitutional actions within ALGON.

Additionally, they also urged the Accountant General of the Federation to disregard what it described as erroneous claims and misrepresentations made by Enekwe and her associates, warning that their attempts to manipulate financial policies could undermine Local Government autonomy.

To safeguard Local Government finances and autonomy, ALGON BOT demanded that the Attorney General of the Federation issue a directive ensuring that Local Government revenue allocation accounts remain with commercial banks rather than the CBN. It also stressed the need to make the consent of the Attorney General of the Federation a necessary condition before any money standing to the credit of Local Governments in these accounts can be attached.

While reaffirming its commitment to protecting the financial independence of Local Governments, urging all stakeholders, including Local Government Chairmen, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies, to reject any directive that seeks to compromise Local Government funds, the BOT, emphasized that only transparent financial practices, free from fraudulent interference, can guarantee the financial autonomy granted to Local Governments by the Supreme Court in its July 11, 2024, ruling.

In light of these concerns, the BOT urged for the need for a stakeholders’ meeting, asserting that due consultation was not conducted before the decision was implemented and there is a need for inclusive dialogue to ensure that any action affecting local government administration aligns with constitutional provisions and serves the best interests of grassroots governance.

Threatens legal action, mass protests over allegations of sexual harassment, misconduct

A coalition of over 352 civil society organizations under the Advocacy for Good Ethics and Accountability for Development, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate resignation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The group cited allegations of sexual harassment and administrative misconduct leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as grounds for his resignation.

In a statement signed by Comrade Henry Thomas on Monday, the coalition described Akpabio’s continued stay in office as an “embarrassment to the nation” and a threat to Nigeria’s ethical governance. They warned that if Akpabio fails to step down by the deadline Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in their capacity, they will mobilize nationwide protests, initiate legal proceedings, and engage foreign embassies to escalate the matter internationally.

The coalition also criticized the government’s silence on the issue, arguing that it undermines President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and casts doubt on the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) commitment to accountability.

Meanwhile as at the time of filing this report, public pressure continues to mount, with former Senate President Bukola Saraki and other prominent figures joining calls for Akpabio’s resignation. As the deadline looms, Nigerians await the Senate President’s response and the government’s stance on the matter.

The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Professor Garba Hamidu Sharubutu, has called for a digital revolution in agricultural extension services to enhance knowledge transfer, improve farm productivity, and ensure food security across Nigeria. Speaking at the Summit on Sustainable Agricultural Extension Services Delivery in Nigeria: The Role of Digital Technology, held from February 26 to 27, 2025, at Chelsea Hotel, Abuja, he emphasized the necessity of leveraging technology to bridge the gap between research institutions and farmers.

The summit, convened at a critical juncture in Nigeria’s agricultural development, brought together key stakeholders, including policymakers, researchers, extension officers, private sector players, and civil society organizations. It provided a platform for discussions on modernizing agricultural extension services through digital tools, particularly the National Electronic Extension Platform (NEEP).

Prof. Sharubutu highlighted NEEP as a landmark initiative spearheaded by the Federal Department of Agricultural Extension to revolutionize how farmers access information, technical support, and market linkages. The platform will utilize real-time data, artificial intelligence, and mobile connectivity to ensure farmers—regardless of their location—receive timely advisory services. He emphasized that digital extension services must be inclusive, multilingual, and affordable to reach smallholder farmers in remote communities.

He outlined ARCN’s strides in modernizing agricultural research dissemination and extension services, including the establishment of Nigerian Agricultural Television (ARCN TV) and Radio, the Adopted Villages and Agricultural Research Outreach Centers (AROCs), and the Integrated e-Library Initiative, which facilitates knowledge-sharing among researchers. The council is also working to digitize research findings from National Agricultural Research Institutes (NARIs) and Federal Colleges of Agriculture (FCAs) for easy accessibility.

He stressed the importance of a multi-stakeholder approach in agricultural extension, integrating public institutions, private enterprises, civil society organizations, and digital platforms to ensure a demand-driven advisory system. He further called for urgent measures to bridge the digital divide, including investments in connectivity infrastructure, digital literacy, and affordable access to smart farming technologies.

To sustain these efforts, he urged the government to establish a dedicated fund for agricultural research and development, strengthen public-private partnerships, and work closely with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to expand initiatives like the National Adopted Village for Smart Agriculture (NAVSA), a data-driven platform for digital agricultural transformation.

Prof. Sharubutu concluded by emphasizing that the success of NEEP will be measured by its impact on farmers, agricultural value chains, and national food security, rather than its launch alone. He urged stakeholders to take actionable steps to implement the summit’s recommendations, ensuring that digital agricultural extension becomes a practical reality rather than an aspirational goal.

The summit ended with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to working collaboratively toward a digitally enabled, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural extension system that will enhance Nigeria’s food security and economic prosperity.

Nairaland GeneralGOCMEJ Commends Audi’s Leadership And Reforms At NSCDC by Amara246(op): 1:21pm On Feb 24, 2025
A Civil Society, Non- Governmental Organisation(NGO), foremost anti-corruption, pro- democracy and pressure group, the Guild of Civil Societies and Media Executives for Equity, Justice and Transparency in Nigeria (GOCMEJ), has applauded the transformation and performance indices engineered by the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi.

The CSO notes the internal processes for optimal performances; high morale of staff; enhanced surveillance on critical assets; prompt payment of allowances; discipline, and the good chain of command structure within the hierarchy of leadership. It also notes the transparency in procurement processes, including the bold initiatives and innovations that have bolstered the NSCDC into a 21st century paramilitary organisation.

The CSO's Country Representative, President and Senior Research Fellow, Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele, made the commendation in Lagos recently, when he attended a strategic round-table Town Hall with other leaders in South-west zone, according to a press statement he personally signed.

The statement alluded to the salient milestones and achievements of the present leadership of the NSCDC in the delivery of good corporate governance and professionalism to drive the changes that are glaring.

According to Aigbegbele, never before have those improvements been seen in the history of the Agency despite the enormous challenges confronting it

The statement emphasises that issues such as the reduction of the incessant herders and farmers' clashes, cattle rustling, the deployment of undercover officers to schools, the reduction of criminal vandals on national assets across the country and the robust inter-agency relationships, cooperation and partnerships with sister agencies such as the Navy, Army, Customs, Immigration, NNPC, etc, most of which have become a thing of the past.

In furtherance of the present efforts, the continued fight against cyber-crimes, child abuse, flushing out of illegal private guard companies, the arrest of smugglers, vandals and pipeline, oil thieves in the Niger Delta region has become a herculean task that must be nipped in the bud. And the present management is working assiduously round the clock to deal decisively with these challenges once and for all.

According to the statement, Dr. Audi has given marching orders to the State Commandants and also read riot acts to them reminding them that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has zero-tolerance for corruption and theft and as such directed the commandants to do all they can in line with the presidential order to rid the nation’s oil sector of economic saboteurs, vandals on critical national assets, oil thieves, and other criminal activities inimical to the growth of the sector and Nigeria at large.

The statement also emphasised the efforts and challenges of the mining marshals and agro- rangers' initiatives to boost food security in order to make food available and allow farmers to go about their businesses in their respective farmlands with the full support of the rangers.

GOCMEJ, of course, agrees that the mining sector is a vital component of the economy as the mining marshals are doing everything within their power to curb the excesses of illegal miners across the length and breadth of the country which pose a threat to national security.

Accordingly, the Corps has been very formidable in dislodging illegal miners by conducting surveillance 24/7 hours and arresting illegality and hence promoting economic growth and saving the country massive revenue loss.

The creation of the Special Mining Marshals by the Audi-led management is indeed a major boost to the fight against illegal miners in the country and has been applauded by well-meaning Nigerians for their selfless efforts in combating the menace head-on which has reduced their activities thereby increasing the revenue base of the country and as well as, improving investors’ confidence in the mineral sector.

Also, with the establishment of the Special Female Squad (SFS) under the present leadership, targeted at boosting the fight against insecurity and kidnapping in our schools, the location of the Squad in all the Commands across the country has enhanced the safe school response coordination and the protection of schools in remote areas and communities, which is done in collaboration with sister agencies as part of the Safe School Initiative (SSI).

In view of the foregoing, GOCMEJ hereby calls on the Federal Government to adequately fund these initiatives through training and retraining of officers, the building and enhancement of capacity development of the Agro- rangers, Mining Marshals and Special Female Squad, so as to boost their productivity, self-esteem and manpower development for the collective good of all. Therefore, GOCMEJ further advocates for a renewed vigour as it urges the increment of the national budget allocations to the NSCDC, in view of the pivotal role it plays in the protection of critical national assets in addition to reducing kidnapping in schools. If these initiatives are properly funded, it will give the NSCDC the impetus to do more for the nation and its work force.

GOCMEJ reiterates that it is encouraged by the public procurement process, contract approvals and payments, the espirit-de-corps of the NSCDC officers and men, including the promotion of officers never before seen in its annals of history which figures stood at about 21,385 personnel to new ranks, the commissioning of fleets of operational vehicles to enhance patrol and surveillance around critical national assets is also a welcome development.

The Guild again applauds the transformation presently on-going and change narrative including strategic alliances with various ivory towers across the country to upgrade the service institutions to meet with what is attainable globally.

The release will, accordingly, amply captures that henceforth “GOCMEJ will continue to support the corps in its efforts to tackle bandits, herders, vandals, illegal miners and promote a safe and secured environment for all”.

The organisation further adds that “the efforts of the NSCDC in playing critical role in securing the mining sector, school environment from kidnappers and protection of farmlands and agro- allied investments are in line with the vision of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s Renew Hope Agenda, which is aimed at diversifying the economy, promoting growth and securing the nation for investors".

GOCMEJ, therefore, has no hesitation in passing a Vote of Confidence on the Dr. Abubakar Audi- led management and calls on the international community and well-meaning Nigerians to continually support the proactive and change leadership to enable it further its commitment to securing the nation, safeguarding our schools and deliver its mandate to Nigerians.

Nairaland GeneralDrivers Send SOS To Governor Sanwoolu Amid LASTMA Rampage by Amara246(op): 11:05pm On Feb 23, 2025
Petroleum Transport Crisis: LASTMA Under the current Commissioner of Transport and Sola Giwa Accused of Orchestrating Violent Extortion*

In a dramatic turn of events at the Ibeju Lekki Free Trade Zone early this morning, concerned petroleum tanker drivers have issued an SOS message to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and the leadership of the PTD branch of NUPENG.

The drivers, who rely on the zone—home to major industrial facilities including the Dangote Refineries and Pinnacle Oil and Gas—to transport petroleum products, claim they have been relentlessly targeted by officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA).

At approximately 2:00 am on February 22, 2025, LASTMA officials, allegedly in collusion with thugs from the Tax Force, launched a violent incursion into the Lekki Free Trade Zone.

Because of ban of night driving by the union for safety reasons, we parked many of the trucks we loaded at night on a single lane to continue our journey the next morning.

We gathered from a reliable source that the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation/Commissioner of Transport is also aware of the recent siege against Tanker Drivers but kept mute for reasons best known to them.

Eyewitnesses report that the law enforcement operatives forcefully towed tanker vehicles, arrested drivers, and even fired shots sporadically into the air over a period of more than two hours. The chaotic scenes have left many questioning the true motive behind the operation.

It is also pertinent to note that it has been the usual practice of LASTMA, accompanied by thugs and The Nigeria Police task force, to storm tanker trucks' locations and forcefully tow tanker trucks in Mile 2, Apapa, Ibeju Lekki, and other areas.

Controversy has further escalated with allegations that the Lagos State Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Sola Giwa—the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation and the man reportedly at the helm of LASTMA’s recent activities—is orchestrating these aggressive moves.

According to sources, the Commissioner of Transport, Sola Giwa, along with their associates has been actively involved in the planning and execution of what drivers describe as a systematic campaign of harassment, intimidation, and extortion. Among the most damning claims is the imposition of an unlawful “E-callup” fee amounting to 12,500 naira per tanker, a practice that has reportedly become routine under the current regime.

According to a driver who crave to be anonymous, "they intentionally target tanker trucks for extortion, they have turned tanker trucks to a coded source of income. And are planning to legalize the extortion through N12,500 of E-Call up." he narrated.

However, the Transport Commission, Sola Giwa and their team always calls stakeholder meetings and media chat that the aim of the "E-Call up" is to avoid the build-up of traffic congestion like Apapa. Meanwhile, Ibeju Lekki's case is different, and the drivers have been loading seamlessly without any "E-Call up."
It is also noteworthy that the sum of 12,500 naira as a fee has never been mentioned in any of these meetings which has now made PTD members raise an eyebrow about the legitimacy of the "E-callup" and to whose advantage it is.

The drivers having gotten wind of the information, know that the money is the reason they find it difficult to start, and they hope the union leaders will not mistakenly agree with their oppressors because it would cause big crises in Lagos State.

However, the tanker drivers have vowed that if their ability to deliver petroleum products to designated filling stations is compromised, the entire blame will rest on LASTMA, under the leadership of the present Commissioner of Transport and Sola Giwa.

The drivers wondered why the state government agents are trying to scuffle loading activity in Ibeju Lekki- Are they angry with Dangote Refinery? Are they angry that there is no more fuel scarcity in the state? What is their main reason for clamping down on a working system that effectively provided and delivers petroleum products across the nation.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, a private individual single handedly provided a state of heart refinery at that location and our government agents could not look for a way to support and create a enabling environment for the residents and workers in the area. All they are after is how to disrupt the system and make money off it.

Alhaji Aliko is building roads in the area, these government agents are not thinking of supporting him with additional roads-there is only one access road from Eleko, they are not thinking how they will create another exit road that will link Ore, Benin etc All they know is to talk about E-Call up because of money they want to make.

What were they looking at when Aliko Group is setting up refinery in that area? As a proactive state agent they claim to be, why couldn't they advise the government to acquire land that could park 10,000 trucks at a go and make a modern park out of it. It is obvious that they do not care about the progress of the refinery and even the citizens of the state, they are only after their pockets. Imagine clamping down on innocent workers by 2am and forcefully towing LOADED trucks away.

“We are not merely fighting for our business, but for our lives,” one driver lamented, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

They have another associate -Hassan who is tormenting us in Apapa, Presently Hassan and others, especially are getting bolder and aggressively arresting tanker trucks without any reason and charging exorbitant amounts for their release.

"This illegality cannot continue; a stop must be put to it," another PTD member quipped.

As panic and unrest grow among the nation’s petroleum transport community, the drivers have appealed to the highest levels of state and national leadership of the PTD branch of NUPENG for immediate intervention.

They insist that without swift and decisive action from Governor Sanwoolu and PTD leadership, the situation could escalate further, jeopardizing not only their livelihoods but also the nation’s fuel supply chain.

The Lagos State government is yet to issue an official response, leaving many to wonder how the crisis will be resolved.

In the meantime, the tanker drivers stand united in their call for justice and protection, determined to hold LASTMA accountable for what they describe as a brazen assault on their rights and safety.

...As Dr. Bayo Faleke Urges Broadcasters to Build a Thriving Industry for Future Generations

World Radio Day 2025 is celebrated on February 13, to acknowledge the vital role radio plays in our daily lives. For over a century, radio has served as a trusted source of entertainment, information, and education, connecting people across the globe.

Dr. Bayo Faleke, a distinguished writer, filmmaker, director, and renowned broadcaster with Fresh FM 105.9 in Ibadan, called on his colleagues—both veterans and newcomers—to transform the radio industry into a gold mine for aspiring broadcasters. He emphasized the need to create opportunities for young talents looking to build a career in radio.

This year, UNESCO encourages radio stations to focus on three key themes: Improving Radio Coverage, Enhancing Radio Content, and Promoting Radio Partnerships. To support these initiatives, UNESCO provides resources such as a global radio station map and fact-checking tools.

People can celebrate World Radio Day by tuning in to local stations, hosting "Radio Only" events, or revisiting historic broadcasts like the legendary "War of the Worlds" episode. UNESCO also suggests 13 creative ways to mark the occasion, including refining programming strategies, presenting diverse perspectives, and embracing an intersectional approach to news and storytelling.

Nairaland GeneralCECOE Slams Canada Over Visa Denial To Nigerian Defence Chiefs by Amara246(op): 7:15pm On Feb 13, 2025
...Calls It a Diplomatic Insult
...Urges Stronger Nigerian Assertiveness

The Centre for Ethical Conduct, Orientation, and Empowerment (CECOE) has strongly condemned the Canadian government’s decision to deny visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officials.
It described the move as a blatant act of diplomatic disrespect and a signal of Canada’s disregard for Nigeria’s sovereignty and military leadership.

Recall the Nigerian officials were due to attend a high-level event in Canada focused on security cooperation and honoring war veterans, but according to the CDS, only a portion of the delegation received visas.
CECOE, in a strongly worded statement signed by its Executive Director, Dr. David Owah on Thursday, denounced the decision as “unjustifiable, insensitive, and an affront to Nigeria’s dignity on the global stage.”

“This action by the Canadian government, is not just an administrative oversight, it is a clear dismissal of Nigeria’s importance in global security affairs. It raises troubling questions about Canada’s stance toward our military leadership and the overall diplomatic relationship between our two nations. We find this completely unacceptable.”

The group, further aligned with General Musa’s call for Nigeria to assert itself more forcefully in international affairs and avoid being treated as an afterthought. They also backed the remarks of National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, who stressed the need for Nigeria to work toward greater self-sufficiency to prevent undue reliance on foreign cooperation.

While the exact reasons for the visa refusals remain unclear, CECOE emphasized that this incident highlights the bureaucratic and political barriers Nigerian officials often face in international engagements, urging the Nigerian government to take decisive action, ensuring that such disrespect is not tolerated in future diplomatic dealings.

“As a nation, we must demand respect and reciprocity in our international partnerships. Nigeria cannot afford to be treated with such disregard. The government must take this as an opportunity to strengthen our position and ensure our leaders are never subjected to such indignities again.

“Additionally, we are calling on the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to act upon this blatant disrespect and disregard. He should immediately engage with Canadian authorities to seek an explanation for the visa denials and to implement measures that ensure, Nigerian officials are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve in all international engagements.” They added.

The statement concluded with a call for Canada to provide immediate clarifications on its decision while urging Nigerian authorities to push back against any form of diplomatic discrimination against the country’s officials.
Nairaland GeneralBekwarra: Hon. Ushie Marks 100 Days In Office With Giant Strides In Community De by Amara246(op): 11:52pm On Feb 12, 2025
…Reiterates commitment to grassroots transformation

In just 100 days, Hon. Theresa Akwaji Ushie has redefined governance in Bekwarra Local Government Area, Cross River State, with an unwavering commitment to grassroots development and infrastructural transformation. Her administration has prioritized people-centered projects, directly addressing critical challenges in water supply, road infrastructure, and community welfare to enhance the quality of life for residents.

One of the most impactful interventions so far is the provision of solar-powered boreholes in Nyanya Ward, St. Gregory Primary School Ikanda, and Beten Ward. By ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water, these projects have significantly improved public health, reduced waterborne diseases, and eased the daily struggles of residents who previously relied on unreliable water sources.

Beyond tackling water scarcity, Hon. Ushie has launched an ambitious road rehabilitation initiative, recognizing that efficient transportation is a catalyst for economic growth. Her administration has successfully graded and rehabilitated 17.6 kilometers of roads across multiple communities, including the Okpeche-Adagom Road in Afrike Ward 1 (6.9km), Ilah Village Road in Gakem Ward (1.4km), Abukpem Village Road through to Gakem Community Town Hall (300m), Ugidi Market (560 square meters), and the Beten-Akpakpa Abuana-Oloko Road (9km). These improvements have not only enhanced connectivity but also boosted local trade, facilitated the movement of agricultural produce, and revitalized economic activities across the LGA.

Reflecting on her administration’s first 100 days, Hon. Ushie emphasized that these achievements are just the beginning of a broader development agenda focused on long-term, sustainable growth.

“Governance must be impactful, visible, and directly beneficial to the people. These first 100 days have been about laying a solid foundation, and we are determined to sustain this momentum. Our focus remains on executing strategic projects that will drive economic empowerment and social development across Bekwarra. We are moving with a clear roadmap for progress, and my tenure will be a defining era of transformation, positioning Bekwarra LGA on a trajectory of sustainable development, inclusivity, and prosperity,” she stated.

Hon. Ushie also expressed her gratitude to the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his unwavering commitment and support, which has been instrumental in the success of her administration’s initiatives. She acknowledged his leadership in fostering an enabling environment for development and urged continued collaboration between the state and local government to accelerate progress.

In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the Federal Government, through the National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC), has launched an intensive bootcamp to equip young Nigerians with expertise in Plant Variety Protection (PVP).

The initiative, spearheaded by the Nigeria Plant Variety Protection Office (NPVPO), aims to develop a new generation of agricultural professionals capable of improving crop yields, enhancing food security, and driving agribusiness growth.

The boot camp, a 4 day program, brought together 25 carefully selected young professionals from across the country. These individuals according to the council, will receive specialized training in plant breeders’ rights, intellectual property protection, and the commercialization of improved plant varieties, key components in ensuring Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in food production.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, Dr. Ishiak Khalid, Acting Director General of NASC, represented by Mallam Ubandoma Hudu, Director of Seed Certification and Quality Control, emphasized that the training represents a major step toward transforming Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.

He said; “You have been selected from a pool of over 77 applicants across Nigeria. This is not just about learning, it is about taking responsibility for the future of our food systems. You are here to develop solutions that will shape the next era of Nigerian agriculture.

“I encourage you all to engage in the training, ask critical questions, and embrace the opportunity to lead the charge in modernizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.”

The Registrar of NPVPO, Dr. Folarin Okelola, in an interview with newsmen, restated that PVP is a game-changing strategy that will increase productivity, encourage research, and incentivize the development of high-yield, climate-resilient crops.

“Plant breeders are the backbone of agricultural innovation. Yet, their work has often gone unrecognized. By protecting their innovations, we encourage more research, attract investment, and boost food production,” Okelola stated.

He further emphasized that embracing PVP could increase Nigeria’s agricultural output up to five times. This, he said, would not only ensure national food security but also position Nigeria as a major exporter of agricultural products.

The bootcamp supported by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), recognizes the need for young minds to take over from an ageing farming population.

Meanwhile Dr. Esther Ibrahim, AGRA’s representative, expressed excitement over the initiative, stating that investing in young agricultural professionals is crucial for the country’s long-term food security goals.

“The future of farming depends on fresh, innovative thinkers. We must build a pipeline of young experts who can introduce modern, efficient agricultural practices. This training is the first step toward that vision,” she noted.

The council reiterated that these 25 young professionals, will not only gain knowledge but also serve as catalysts for agricultural transformation, developing high-yield crops, reducing post-harvest losses, and strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global agricultural economy.

Nairaland GeneralCSATD Slams Okai, Accuses Him Of Tribal Bias And False Allegations Against Kogi by Amara246(op): 10:13am On Feb 08, 2025
....Dismisses activist’s claims, says allegations of fund diversion are baseless.
....Lauds Ododo’s leadership by highlighting key projects marking his first anniversary

The Civil Society Alliance for Transparency and Development (CSATD) has strongly criticized self-acclaimed political activist Austin Okai, accusing him of engaging in tribal politics and spreading falsehoods against the administration of Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.

CSATD, in a press briefing on Friday, dismissed Okai’s recent press conference as a “comedy of errors,” stating that his claims of fund diversion were baseless and a desperate attempt to mislead the public. They asserted that Okai, who has been nursing the wounds of his preferred candidate’s defeat in the 2023 gubernatorial election, is using propaganda to attack a government that has been widely acknowledged for its developmental strides.

According to CSATD, Okai and his associates, mostly from the same ethnic group as the opposition candidate in the last election, are disguising personal grievances as activism. The group described this as "ethnic jingoism" aimed at discrediting the current administration despite its visible achievements in less than a year.

“It is evident that the last election has not only frustrated Okai and his paymasters but has also planted in their hearts a pathological hatred against Kogi State, its people, and its government. We urge them to move on and engage in productive ventures instead of engaging in baseless attacks,” the statement read.

CSATD highlighted Governor Ododo’s accomplishments, particularly during his first anniversary in office, which was marked by the commissioning of significant projects by Vice President Kashim Shettima. These projects include the 9-kilometer Zone 8-Zango Daji-Kaduna Junction road, the 5.5-kilometer Zone 8-Crusher road, a 350-bed hostel for male and female students at the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara, a demonstration farm, faculty buildings, and several primary healthcare centers.

CSATD, further emphasized that the claim of diverted federal funds existed only in the imagination of Okai and his sponsors, as no such funds were disbursed to Kogi State.

“Blind hatred will not allow people like Okai to acknowledge the laudable projects commissioned across the state. However, many of his own kinsmen are beginning to see the reality of good governance under Governor Ododo and have distanced themselves from his misleading antics,” CSATD stated.

They however called on the people of Kogi to ignore Okai, describing him as an enemy of progress whose actions do not reflect the interests of the state.

Nairaland GeneralGroup To Fisayo Soyombo; “journalism Is Not A License For Cyber Bullying” by Amara246(op): 9:02pm On Jan 30, 2025
A foremost right and accountability organization, Accountability Hub, has issued strong warnings to journalist Fisayo Soyombo, stating that it will no longer be business as usual for those who use their social media influence to defame individuals and institutions under the guise of journalism.

The organization reacting, condemned Soyombo’s recent tweet on X, branding Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun as “despotic,” describing it as reckless cyber harassment rather than responsible journalism.

According to Accountability Hub, while journalists have a duty to hold public officials accountable, such engagements must be based on truth, fairness, and professional ethics, not malicious attacks intended to incite public outrage.

The organization stated, “Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to defame. We are in an era where reckless use of social media influence to bully and malign individuals must be confronted. The days of unchecked cyber harassment are over.”

They further warned against the increasing trend of using media platforms to spread misleading narratives, stressing that accountability must apply to both public officials and those who claim to hold them to account.

“As Nigeria continues to strengthen its democratic institutions, we call for a shift towards ethical journalism, one deeply rooted in facts, not propaganda or personal vendettas.” It added.

Nairaland GeneralCADII Calls For Ethical Civil Society Advocacy by Amara246(op): 8:09pm On Jan 27, 2025
..Urges Stakeholders to Promote Responsibility and Accountability

The Committed Advocates of Integrity Initiative (CADII) has called on civil society organizations (CSOs), government agencies, media, and the public to uphold ethical standards in advocacy.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, CADII Executive Director, Comrade Charles Agubor, emphasized the importance of preserving the sanctity of civil society advocacy by promoting transparency, responsibility, and accountability. He criticized reckless allegations by some organizations, particularly citing the actions of Trustfield Empowerment Initiative (TEI), which have eroded public trust and distracted government agencies from their critical mandates.

Agubor highlighted the baseless accusations TEI recently made against five federal agencies, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), the Comptroller-General of the Federal Fire Service, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). He explained that these allegations of contract abuse, tax evasion, and financial mismanagement were made without evidence, forcing the agencies to divert resources to defend their integrity rather than focus on their mandates. “Civil society must remain a beacon of hope, not a tool for character assassination or political manipulation,” Agubor stated.

Valentine Opaoluwa, a member of CADII, reiterated the need for adherence to ethical standards, emphasizing that CSOs must ground their advocacy in facts and objectivity. He urged stakeholders to expose unethical practices within the sector and ensure that CSOs operate responsibly to maintain public trust. “The credibility of civil society depends on our ability to act with integrity and accountability,” Opaoluwa added.

To address these concerns, CADII outlined measures to combat reckless advocacy, including legal actions against violators, public exposure of unethical groups, and collaboration with regulators to review operations. Agubor stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together in restoring the integrity of civil society advocacy and enabling public institutions to perform their duties without unwarranted interference.

Concluding the conference, CADII reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical advocacy and strengthening democracy. “Together, we can restore trust, uphold justice, and ensure civil society remains a force for positive change,” Agubor said.

Nairaland GeneralBeyond The Drum Of Iyobosa's Undemocratic Demonic Rantings Against Seyi Tinubu. by Amara246(op): 10:09pm On Jan 16, 2025
The attention of the Brown Table Network (BTN), an affiliate of Coalition of Pro-democracy and Human Rights Groups in Nigeria, has been drawn to a mischievous narrative against Seyi Tinubu credited to Iyabosa Uwugiaren, a self-acclaimed Editor and Journalist without credibility in the Nigerian media environment, who is also surrounded with a lot of baggages.

It is with the keenest sense of patriotic fervour that we find it necessary to state that we are disappointed with the statement credited to Iyabosa Uwugiaren considering his self-acclaimed record as member of the Guild of Editors. Iyabosa Uwugiaren also wilfully dabbles into controversial issues, not worthy of a credible Journalist. But he does this for a mesh of porridge which enables him to sustain his life and those of his family.

This association usually ignores such blackmail stories like this one credited to Iyabosa Uwugiaren. But we have been compelled by our conscience to respond to this completely laughable, misplaced, baseless, reckless and a clear violation of Seyi's democratic rights. However, for the avoidance of any doubt and to keep with the mandate of openness and democratic credentials with which Seyi Tinubu, the main subject of the mischievous attack story, has pursued his engagements in both public and private endeavours, we find it necessary and compulsory to reassure everyone and the teeming supporters of Seyi in Lagos State and beyond, to dismiss such dubious statements that emanate from individuals lacking in democratic credentials. These mischief makers have earned the status of political jobbers without any known credible employment record. They believe Journalism is still an all-comers trade. It is not by mistake that disgruntled politicians find it very easy to use these elements to cast aspersions on their perceived enemies. As someone who goes cap-in-hand begging politicians for briefs, how is Iyobosa Uwugiaren qualified to appear as an Analyst on television programmes and not to mention Arise TV.

It was preposterous for anybody to try to deny the liberty to exercise both God-given and constitutional rights to aspire for any position that he is competent to aspire, including the highest office in Lagos State. The United States, whose democracy we claim to model ours after, had former President George Bush and his son George W. Bush, also became a President of the same country. So, when has it become a crime for anyone to aspire to rule a state in Nigeria?

We must state without fear of contradiction that while Seyi has transcended the humdrum of ordinariness in his chosen endeavours, Iyobosa Uwugiaren, with all his acclaimed status in the print media, could not get elected in any position within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He only succeeded in hiding behind the Guild of Editors to project his relevance. He uses such platforms to harass, intimidate unsuspecting people that have refused to bow to his demonic yearnings. In fact, recently Iyobosa Uwugiaren failed woefully and shamelessly in his bid to impose his crony to get elected as Chairman of the NUJ FCT chapter. Till date, he is unable to respond to allegations levied against him by a former Chairman of NUJ FCT chapter.

Iyobosa should tell the world and people of Lagos State that Seyi has not intimidated anyone on his political ambition to contest for the position of Lagos Governorship in 2027 electoral calendar. To our knowledge and understanding, Seyi has never publicly disclosed that he is running for the seat of Governor of Lagos State. Again, the story dwells on fantasies and hallucinations. Iyabosa Uwugiaren should have known by now that Seyi is not only competent and qualified to join the 2027 Lagos Gubernatorial race. Only the registered accredited voters of Lagos State can determine his fate, so why the attack in the first place?

Again, if a little thought had gone into the commentary, Iyabosa Uwugiaren would have reasoned that in line with the efforts to build up our political system, what is found is that many competent individuals either professionals or with private sector background like Seyi shy away from coming forward to contribute in any meaningful way to the building up of our democratic system. Such professionals, instead prefer to keep a well-calculated distance in their comfort zones from where they release sermons on what is wrong with the process and what should be done one way or another. This is because politics in Nigeria is portrayed as a “dirty game.” But we need credible people to join politics to sanitize it, so that disgruntled people will never have a field day again.

This kind of irreparable mistake was committed by the same Iyabosa during the transition to democracy in 1998, midwifed by the General Abdulsalami Abubakar’s government. Our investigation has confirmed that someone like Iyabosa cannot win a Councillorship position in his native Edo State in a free and fair contest. This is judging from the fact that over the years, he has reduced himself to making utterly misplaced statements; acting as member of agent provocateurs, and above all a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-like town crier that claims to be a PDP entity than the party’s founding members. This is similar to one who claims to be more Catholic than the Pope!

Iyobosa Uwugiaren does not even have a good grasp of the eight parts of speech of the English Language which even Primary Five pupils have. This is because he mixes past and present tenses on his consistent Television appearances to the disappointment of his anchors. He is not articulate, neither coherent and cannot explicitly express himself on any issue and he dubiously claims to be holder of the prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (PHD).

We discovered, through our investigation that, Iyobosa Uwugiaren’s abode in Abuja is still suspect and his colleagues are murmuoring about how he fraudulently acquired it by using the Guild of Editors’ letterhead and known to be a persistent women-beater. Records have it that Iyobosa fought and beat Emeritus Executive officers of NUJ. Also, he was captured at Wuse Market like a professional boxer of the status of Mike Tyson or Anthony Joshua, even when he was fraudulently serving as the Secretary of NUJ FCT Council then.

The primary question is: Why is Iyobosa wilfully dragging the sacred name of the Guild of Editors into partisan politics why professionals turn their eyes and look the other way? Why will the Guild of Editors tolerate this obnoxious character as its Secretary? It is now a clarion call to remove Iyobosa Uwugiaren as he has become an attack dog used by politicians. We therefore declare him persona non grata and call for his immediate sack from office, so that the Guild of Editors will reclaim its good image that he has dragged into the mud. This will save the Guild from further embarrassment as Iyobosa has perpetually used the Guild for his personal political gains to further his nest.

We also have it on good authority that Iyobosa Uwugiaren was paid a large sum of money by a fifth columnist to smear the hard-earned image and name of Seyi Tinubu. However, Iyabosa Uwugiaren should be ashamed of himself as he speaks from both sides of his mouth and no credibility. Neither does he have credible friends or sound backing because of his character and attitude with low self-esteem.

We must note that managing democracy is difficult, heterogeneous society as ours is not exactly an easy task. In fact, the challenge is made more difficult by the extent and likes of Iyabosa whose antics revolve around shifting the goal post and rules when it is Seyi Tinubu. These obnoxious yardsticks being used by those who are nursing embedded hatred and bitterness against Seyi stem from the perceived sins of his father or those that are envious of his perceived aspirations. But funny enough, these are the very elements seeking to define the environment of politics and democratic values in their ugly image and anti-democratic rules.

Seyi Tinubu has the right to aspire to any office of his choice in Nigeria. It is his undeniable right if he so chooses. As for now, he has not even declared to run for that office, but some politicians are already scared because of his credibility. These politicians now spend sleepless nights in order to block him from contesting, because they are scared of their shadows and are certain that Seyi has all it takes to be Governor. Therefore, they want to do everything possible to smear his image and name.

Not unexpectedly, there have been orchestrated efforts by some political actors defeated at the polls in 2023 to undermine the on-going efforts to reform the system. Therefore, the acidic criticism of President Tinubu and his beloved son is an extension of the well-funded campaign to discredit and undermine the administration.

Our organization, the Brown Table Network is however, resolute in its determination not to steadily push Seyi to develop the ambition to contest for the Governorship of Lagos State come 2027, but if he chooses to contest, our Organization will solidly stand before him and even mobilize support to him to win the contest. We are aware that only the people of Lagos State can decide the outcome via the exercise of their democratic rights. We would; however like to advise Iyobosa and his cohorts to surrender, humble themselves and apologize to the good people of Lagos State. This is to further assure hatchet groups and sponsored critics of Seyi Tinubu that no amount of propaganda against the collective wishes of democratic loving citizens of Lagos to have Seyi in the Alausa Government House is going to triumph at the end of the day. But for now, Seyi Tinubu is focused on tackling issues confronting the youthful population and the womenfolk.
