Briefing newsmen in Aba, chairmen of Eastern Elders Forum and Defenders of Truth; Mazi Jude Chukwu and Mazi Ukaegbu O. Ukaegbu, respectively, warned that the Federal Government would be playing with fire if it continues to delay the conduct of a referendum to allow component units in Nigeria to determine their future. "We state that the only solution for the present political imbroglio is for the Federal Government of Nigeria to conduct a referendum in order to set free some component units of the country that are seeking for self-determination. We further state that the call for a referendum by the IPOB, MASSOB, EPC and other agitating groups in the country doesn't amount to war or violence, but a peaceful and good settlement of the present turmoil in the country." The groups expressed concern about the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and its youth wing and warned them not to risk the lives and property of Ndigbo through unguarded utterances. "Some utterances from Ohanaeze Ndigbo and its youth wing led by one Okechukwu Isiguzo, amount to outright desecration of Igbo culture and tradition. We hereby use this medium to warn some self-acclaimed Igbo leaders to stop their antics. They should desist or face the wrath of elders of Ndigbo in the country or Diaspora." http://www.buzymindznews.com/2017/07/only-referendumll-resolve-problems-in.html

You might know him as the actor who played the challenging role of the late Biafran Commander-in-Chief, General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in the short film, ‘The Encounter’, but in Nollywood, Gregory Ojefua is the actor simply known as Greg OJ. Having won a bunch of awards and been nominated for a few more, OJ is not a fresh faced naiveté, he is an actor with so much dexterity that he is known to effortlessly switch between roles in ages quite far apart. While he dabbles in comedic, and sometimes serious roles, he is popular for his ability to bring his characters to life in the addition of his personal twists to said characters. SATURDAY INDEPENDENT’s TOMI FALADE was able to speak with him at the premiere of a new movie he appeared in, ‘Trace’, produced by Yvonne Enakhena. The bubbly actor shared with us, some of the principles that guide his choices as an actor. Why did you take part in Trace? I took the script because I relate to the script; everybody does. Everyone has that one event or the other, no matter the magnitude; it might be quite small or it might be quite big, something in the past that we are not proud of. I saw the script and it brought to light how the past keeps trying to come and interfere with the present and how an intelligent person deals with it and how we should be able to say ‘no’, the past belongs in the past, the present is here and whatever is going to hurt my future, I should cut it down here in the present and that is basically what happened in the movie. So I could relate to that and I still relate to that every day in my life and I just jumped on the script. Read more@ http://www.buzymindznews.com/2017/07/living-life-simple-makes-life-simple.html

The Presidency has reacted to claims by the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki that the Goodluck Jonathan administration cleared the Northeast of Boko Haram terrorists to make elections possible in 2015. The Presidency described the claim as untrue and superlative claims by the ex-NSA to cover his sins and an attempt to deceive Nigerians with blatant lies. Dasuki, who is currently facing trial for allegedly misappropriating $2.1 billion earmarked for the procurement of arms while in office, said that the conduct of the 2015 election in the north-east was possible because the government of Goodluck Jonathan had defeated Boko Haram. The ex-NSA, who wrote from a detention facility of the Department of States Services (DSS) in the forward of a book entitled: ‘Boko Haram media war – an encounter with the spymaster’, authored by Yushau Shuaib, a communications consultant, said the government also deployed practical aspects of crisis communication throughout the period of the campaigns. Dasuki said the urgent response of the Jonathan administration to the insurgency led to the smooth conduct of 2015 general election in the north-east. “In fact, without our intervention in ensuring the defeat of Boko Haram, the electorate could not have had the opportunity to exercise their franchise. It is a fact that we provided peace and stability that afforded Nigerians, especially in the north-east in voting for their governors, legislators and others in the 2015 elections,” he said. But in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said the claim in the book, is just another unfortunate attempt by “inglorious Nigerians to rewrite the history of our country in such a way as to cover the sins of the past. “We will have to read the entire text to offer a full and adequate response. source: http://www.buzymindznews.com/2017/07/boko-haram-defeat-you-lied-presidency.html

Boko Haram on Monday released a video showing some women abducted by the insurgents last month. In the video, published by Sahara Reporters, the women pleaded with the Nigerian government to negotiate with the terrorists for their release. The women are believed to be among 14 others abducted when the gunmen ambushed a convoy travelling under military escort along the Biu road in Borno State. The 4:35 minutes video footage featured a hooded Boko Haram member introducing the women and thereafter asked two of them to deliver their message to the Nigerian government. The video showed about 10 of the women who appeared traumatised but well kept. It could be recalled that a large convoy travelling from Maiduguri to Damboa under a military escort was ambushed on June 20 by Boko Haram gunmen some 31 kilometres from Maiduguri. Some of the travellers, including a police officer and a soldier were killed in the ambush. Although the Borno State Police Command confirmed the attack, it refused to state the number of those taken away by the attackers. By Wole Ayodele in Jalingo Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has reiterated his earlier stance that all lives matter as far as the state is concerned. Ishaku spoke at a dinner he held with some select editors of various newspapers in Abuja. He said as a father to all, he does not discriminate, stressing that his philosophy is to equate one life with all other lives and that the death of any one is injurious to him. He said: “Perhaps I’m the only one who knows how deeply hurt I feel when I hear of the death of any Taraba citizen due to crisis or, as a matter of fact, for any other reasons. Of all the things Taraba people look up to me for, the preservation of their lives and property is number one. If I fail to protect them, then I have really failed. So that is why I said I will give my life; I would rather be sacrificed than for any Taraba person no matter their tribes, religion or status to die because of any violence. It won’t happen under my watch and I mean it. I will not sleep until there is peace everywhere.” In his opening remarks, the governor said the era of keeping the media out of government activities is gone as the emphasis is on partnership. He said he is a beneficiary of the work of journalists especially in ensuring that people’s mandate are protected. He noted that the dinner was designed to foster better relationships between the state and the media. Read more@ http://www.buzymindznews.com/2017/07/taraba-gov-i-will-rather-sacrifice.html

The Plateau Police Command said it had apprehended a 25-year-old man for allegedly posing as ‘female sex worker’ in Jos. The command’s spokesman, ASP Terna Tyopev, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Jos that the suspect, identified as Micheal Atseng, was arrested on July 13 at Gwom Guest House, Hwolshe, at about 9:30 pm. “The hotel management alerted us that someone is lodging in their hotel who poses as a woman but with physical features of a man. “We mobilized our men and at exactly 9:30 pm, he was accosted and had been in our custody, ” Tyopev said. Tyopev, who described the suspect as a “habitual homosexual’ said in 2016, he was arrested by soldiers but returned to his normal business after he was released. He said the suspect, who usually disguised as a female prostitute, had lured many men in need of sexual satisfaction to take him in. The spokesman described the suspect’s activities as ‘criminal’, adding that he was being thoroughly investigated. “In the first instance, posing as someone you are not to deceive the public is criminal because only God knows how many men must have fallen victims of this act. “Also, the law prohibiting homosexuality is still in force in Nigeria and anyone caught must be made to face the full wrath of the law. “We have had a lot of armed robbery cases where people are robbed at gun point, and people with such character also have the tendency to commit such crime. “So, investigations are ongoing to unravel the real motive behind this act, to see if he is involved in other criminal activities, and to also forestall this bad trend in Plateau, ” he said. Tyopev called on those who patronized commercial sex workers, to be extra careful He urged the public to report to the police, the presence of such persons in their vicinity to help curb criminality in the state.
