Politics / Reuben Abati Asks Tinubu’s Sons To Stop Hanging Around Aso Rock by ambu2: 6:54pm On Mar 06
Reuben Abati, a former media adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, has criticised President Bola Tinubu's sons, Seyi and Yinka, for loitering around the Aso Rock Villa like "men without personal purposes in life."

Abati, who expressed his dissatisfaction on Wednesday, during Arise TV "The Morning Show" which he co-anchors with fellow journalists Oseni Rufai and two others described the President’s sons as ''jobless invalids.”

He also lambasted Tinubu for including Seyi and Yinka among his team that visited Qatar last weekend and giving them more diplomatic preference than his ministers.

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Seyi and Yinka were among the delegation that travelled with the President on a state visit to Doha, Qatar which was scheduled for March 2 and 3, 2024

Reacting, Abati said, “What I am saying is that first Nigerians complain that they should not have been on that list, the issue raised there is that yes if their father is paying for them to be there, fine. I also raised the question if they have relevant qualifications, if they are business people in their own rights, they can bring investment and they will make contribution. Then you will say they have a reason to be there, What I found disturbing in that video that we just shown, we just show the order of protocol, I spent four years studying diplomacy. They were coming on the order of protocol before the minister of the Federal Republic, what are their roles there that they will be put before the minister?

“May we begin to ask, what do the president’s children do for a living? I don’t know specifically how old they are but looking at them, by the time I was their age, I was doing something concrete with my life. I got a PhD at 24. I wasn’t depending on any father.

“People must get to a stage in their lives when they will hold themselves together, I don’t want adults behaving like invalids hanging around just because your father is in a position. All these children of privilege sometimes overdo it, and these are boys that would probably have wives at home. Some of these girls, what they go through is very embarrassing. You can’t have a husband that’s just hanging around, that cannot stand on his two feet as men.’’

Politics / Does United States Have The Office Of The First Lady? by ambu2: 12:17pm On Oct 02, 2023
The Office of the First Lady (OFL) is the staff accountable to the first lady of the United States. The office and its responsibilities, while not constitutionally mandated, have grown as the role of the first lady has grown and formalized through the history of the United States. The Office of the First Lady is an entity of the White House Office, part of the Executive Office of the President. It is located in the East Wing.

The first lady has her own staff that totals 11 in number.

Though the persona, activities, and initiatives of the first lady have always been significant to the history of the United States, the first first lady to hire federally funded staff was Edith Roosevelt, who hired Belle Hagner as the first White House social secretary on October 2, 1901. Eleanor Roosevelt became the first first lady to expand the office beyond social and administrative secretaries by hiring Malvina Thompson as her personal secretary and Jackie Kennedy was the first to employ a press secretary.

Under Rosalynn Carter, the first lady's staff became known as the Office of the First Lady. She organized the office into four major departments: projects and community liaison, press and research, schedule and advance, and social and personal; and was the first to add a chief of staff. She was also the first to move her own work office into the East Wing. Though the role of the office has grown over the years, it primarily supports the first lady in promoting the agenda and campaigns of the president. Further to that, it provides support for the agenda of the first lady, who chooses causes and initiatives to campaign for during their time at the White House.

Celebrities / Mohbad: Keep Quiet If You Have Nothing To Say, Tonto Dikeh Blasts Bakare by ambu2: 10:07am On Sep 26, 2023
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, has slammed the General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, for faulting the lifestyle of the late singer, Mohbad.

Mohbad died on September 12, and his death has stirred up controversies on social media, forcing Nigerians to demand justice for him.

Bakare, speaking at church event in the United Kingdom on Sunday, however, faulted Mohbad, saying he was “drinking and smoking” and “reaped the reward of his unpleasant lifestyle while alive”.

“My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know Mohbad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? Mohbad,” Bakare asked.

“When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth.

“I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name? Mohbad.”

Reacting to Bakare’s statement, Dikeh, blasted Bakare who had not spoken against the ills of his fellow clergymen in the past but condemned Mohbad’s life.

The actress said the late singer was old enough to be the pastor’s last born, but said she would not speak much against him because of the anointing of God upon him.

“When your colleagues are caught with their pants down in unholy sexual activities. We never hear your voice, you never speak nor preach about them,” Dikeh said on her Instagram page.

“It comes to the death of a boy who is old enough to be your last born and you say “HE REAPED THE REWARD OF HIS ACTIONS. What Actions? “Please please please KEEP THE SAME ENERGY with your corrupted colleagues as you just did today.

“It’s the anointing of God upon your head that’s making me not go off on this LOOSE COMMENT OF YOURS.

“I have learnt over the years that if you have nothing nice to say, Keep mute (DONT TALK AT ALL).

“Preach your gospel and leave Mohbad’s name out of your ministration. I don’t respect old age, I respect the wisdom you exhibit at old age.”

Politics / Re: Tribunal: Rep Bichi Congratulates Tinubu, Nigerians On Historic Victory by ambu2: 1:59pm On Sep 08, 2023
aguele:

_...says judiciary has proven to be the hope of the masses_

Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

In a statement on Friday, he said the judgment is a triumph for Nigerians who showed massive support for the All Progressives Congress at the last general elections.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, who led the five-person panel, said: “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”⁣

Thereafter, the four other Justices unanimously took turns to dismiss the petitions presented by the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, challenging Tinubu’s emergence as President, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on March 1, 2023. ⁣

In reaction, Hon. Bichi who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, said the judiciary has again proven to be the hope of the common man.

He said the five-member panel tenaciously evaluated all the issues raised by the petitioners and delivered a clear verdict on the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

Bichi, however, urged the members of the opposition parties to join hands with President Tinubu to build a better and prosperous nation.

He reiterated the commitment of the parliament to come up with legislation to support the various initiatives of the executive in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

“I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima over their victory at the Presidential Election Petitions Court,” he said.

“The affirmation of their election in February this year restores the confidence of Nigerians in the nation’s Judiciary and our electoral processes.

“I also commend the panel for its resolute and firm posture in ensuring that its judgment was guided by the facts available before the court against unsubstantiated claims.

“The PEPC judgment sends a clear message to politicians that the judiciary understands its limit and refuses to be an arbiter on matters within the jurisdiction of political parties.

“I urge the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party and the Labour Party, to join forces with the Tinubu-led administration in delivering good governance to Nigerians.

“On our part, we will come up with necessary legislation to support the executive to address the challenges facing our nation. This will be pursued vigorously for the benefit of all."

Politics / Come Home To Invest, Soludo Begs Anambra Businessmen In Lagos by ambu2: 10:06pm On Jun 23, 2023
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has advised Anambra businessmen and women in Lagos State that Anambra is ready for business and investing in the state will be in their best interest.

Soludo appealed to Anambra people to always think home by imbibing the ‘homeland consciousness’ and to also ensure that part of their taxes are paid to the state, irrespective of where they reside or work.

The governor stated these during a town hall meeting with Anambra residents in Lagos while enumerating some of the progress made so far by his administration after one year in office.

He told his audience to strive to contribute their quota to the development of the state, adding that God did not make a mistake by making them Anambra people.

This is according to a press statement by Soludo’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Friday.

The governor, therefore, enjoined the people to reflect deeply on it and do everything possible to contribute to the growth of the state.

He said, “This is the same question I ask myself every day. And we have a responsibility to leave Anambra State better than we met it.

“The need to change Anambra State from a departure lounge to a destination, the homeland consciousness must be inculcated in the perceptual mind of every Onye-Anambra.

“Your host will never respect you if you don’t have a livable and prosperous homeland.”

Soludo further assured his audience that his government is determined to resurrect Onitsha by returning it to its former glory as the biggest commercial city in the South East and beyond.

He insisted that his administration has drastically reduced the menace of killings and kidnapping to the barest minimum with the security architecture put in place by his government.

He commended the Army, Navy, Police, the state’s vigilante group and other paramilitary agencies for their dogged efforts in contributing to the successes recorded so far.

The governor reassured them that law and order has been greatly restored in the state compared to the impunity that held sway before he came into office.

To boost the power supply in the state, he stated that his government recently signed an MOU with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for 24 hours supply of electricity in the state.

He, however, enjoined anyone interested in collaborating with his government to set up Independent Power Plant in the state, is welcome to do so.

He informed the audience that Anambra Investment Summit will be coming up soon in September, urging every business-conscious person to join the rest of the world at the summit.

He added that the summit will be “all about closing deals” and agreements’ signing. “Anambra is loading and the options are open.”

The event featured key Ndi-Anambra businessmen and women as well as members of the State Executive Council.

Politics / Mention Military Officers Involved In Oil Theft – Nigerian Navy Dares Dokubo by ambu2: 11:45pm On Jun 16, 2023
The Nigerian Navy has challenged a Niger Delta militants’ leader and former agitator, Asari Dokubo, to produce the names of officers involved in crude oil theft.

Dokubo, had on Friday, alleged that the bulk cases of oil theft recorded in the oil-rich region were traceable to the Nigerian Army and Navy.

He said this while briefing State House reporters after meeting President Bola Tinubu behind closed-doors at the Aso Rock Villa.

“The military is at the centre of oil theft and we have to make this very clear to the Nigerian public that 99 per cent of oil theft can be traced to the Nigerian military, the Army and the Navy especially,” Dokubo had said.

But the spokesman of the Nigerian Navy, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, described the allegation as “spurious and unguarded”.

He said oil thieves were angry because troops of Nigerian Navy and entire military have continued to deny them avenues to sabotage economy through ongoing “Operation DAKATAR DA BARAWO”.

He maintained that the maritime armed force in collaboration with relevant stakeholders would continue to deny crude oil thieves avenues to sabotage Nigeria’s economy.

Ayo-Vaughan, in an interview with Daily Trust, said “Let him bring the names. The Nigerian Navy is interested in the names of those involved because the Navy has no tolerance for any form of criminalities whatsoever, not even that height of theft as alleged by Asari Dokubo.

“The Navy has an operation in the Niger-Delta that has been running for over one year plus to curb oil theft. Operation DAKATAR DA BARAWO has denied oil thieves more than N76billion worth of crude oil. The money that would have helped them to further increase their illegal artisanal refineries.

“So, the Navy is actively fighting oil theft. For anybody to make such spurious allegations, bring the names. He (Dokubo) is in the Niger Delta, he has boys in the Niger Delta.

“The company that was given a contract by the NNPC on pipeline surveillance, they are working with the Nigerian Navy and Operation Delta Safe in the Niger-Delta to curb oil theft.

“For somebody to just make such unguarded statement, bring the names. You know that there is an operation (Operation DAKATA BARAWO) going on in the Niger Delta being run by the Nigerian Navy since April last year. The Navy has been running it in synergy with the NNPC.

“NNPC holds regular meetings with the Chief of Naval Staff to review the operations. Just last week, the Chief Executive of NUPREC was here to have a meeting with CNS. Just two days ago, the management team for the other one on downstream regulatory authority were also here to have a meeting. For us, if you want to make such spurious allegations, bring the names. Simple.”

Politics / Democracy Day: Tinubu Will Deliver Dividends-gbajabiamila by ambu2: 9:04pm On Jun 11, 2023
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has congratulated Nigerians for their unwavering support for the nation’s democracy as they mark this year’s Democracy Day.

Gbajabiamila in a statement signed by his media aide, Lanre Lasisi said “this year’s Democracy Day is worth celebrating because it is a unique milestone in the nation’s democratic journey with the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a thoroughbred democrat, who is noted for his tenacious defence of democracy.”

The Speaker said that “his joy stems from the fact that Nigerians are set to appreciate the true meaning of democracy because the man in the saddle today is a product of democracy and someone who understands and appreciates the tenets of democracy and the value it brings to the table of the populace.”

He said that as a true democrat who was involved in the struggle for the return of democracy to the country and has finally assumed the position of authority, “Tinubu will not shy away from bringing to bear the dividends of democracy Nigerians have been yearning for.”

Gbajabiamila also expressed his appreciation to Nigerians as they continue to support the country’s return to democracy by building its processes without wavering since 1999.

Urging Nigerians to remain united in the face of the socio-economic and political challenges facing the country, Gbajabiamila also called for prayers for the country’s leaders for God’s guidance and wisdom to overcome the many challenges confronting the country.

Politics / I Will Ensure Smooth Tinubu, N’assembly Relationship – Gbajabiamila by ambu2: 12:16am On Jun 09, 2023
The outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has pledged to facilitate a cordial relationship between President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly.

Gbajabiamila, who has been appointed as President’s Chief of Staff, made the pledge on Wednesday in his opening address that lasted 23 minutes at the opening of the 9th House’s valedictory session in Abuja.

While thanking his colleague lawmakers for their support, the Speaker described his new appointment as humbling.

He assured the lawmakers that in his new role, he would work to ensure “a cordial and productive relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government whilst respecting the independence and prerogatives of the legislature.”

Gbajabiamila added, “As I transition into my new role, a role unlike the one I have had for these many years, I ask for your support and best wishes as we continue to work together to advance the cause and fulfil the promise of Nigeria.  I will miss all of you, and I will miss this House.  I want you to rest assured that wherever the road takes me, I will carry you all in my heart fondly because you have enriched my life in ways words alone cannot fully express.”

In his speech, the Speaker expressed concerns about the exodus of Nigerians over sociopolitical and economic challenges, warning of the dire consequences for the country in the future

The PUNCH reports that Nigeria has been witnessing a migration wave popularly referred to as Japa, losing its citizens to mostly Western countries through education and job opportunities.

Gbajabiamila said, “Despite the considerable investments we have made to improve our public infrastructure and the numerous reforms we have enacted to change how we administer the government, our country faces many significant challenges.

“These challenges have caused many of our fellow citizens to wonder if the promise of democracy will ever become real in their lives.  Too many of our young people have lost faith entirely and are choosing in droves to seek their fortunes and their futures in other lands.  We are losing some of our best and brightest, and if we don’t act now, the consequences of this loss will shortly become painfully evident.”

He asked, “How do we ensure a healthy, vigorous, growing economy that provides opportunities for all who work hard to succeed through their labour and ingenuity?  How do we protect our people from the marauders and insurgents, the petty criminals and assorted villains who wish to harm them, whether for profit or in service of other agendas?  How do we restore faith in our young people so that so many of them no longer feel like the only way to achieve their best aspirations is to chase their fortunes in faraway, often hostile, lands?

"These are the critical questions all of us in government must answer or risk the unforgiving judgment of history.  With each new day, we have an opportunity to make the hard choices and take the necessary actions to guarantee our nation’s future.  With each new day, we have less time to act and a more outstanding obligation to act quickly.”

Celebrities / Re: Saint Obi's Marriage Took Him Away From His Friends And Acting - Zik Zulu by ambu2: 12:43pm On May 16, 2023
yeyebrity:
Hmnn... we all loved St Obi, but I don't think it's right at this time to apportion blames. If he was prevented from seeing his children, then it's because he was too soft to insist. The St Obi I saw on screen had a pleasant aura, charm and charisma that would make almost any woman do whatever he wanted. And no, it wasn't about the character he protrayed but his general mien. He just had it even if he played a bad boy role.

He wasn't the first to marry a financially fulfilled woman, so what's the fuss about? In my opinion, being denied access to his children had nothing to do with the status of his ex wife, but the fact that something deeper may have happened between them, and the woman was just trying to be mean. Like I said earlier, he should have tried to get a court injunction in that regards. Instead, he choose to wallow in his misery. I am positive that his health took a toll on him because he couldn't even afford to take care of himself.

The dude subtly suggested that St Obi abandoned his friends because he felt he had hit the jack pot by getting married to a supposedly rich woman (I wouldn't consider someone who earns between 5 and 10 Million naira monthly rich though). And to all those who suddenly abandon their friends after getting married, y'all should learn a lesson or two from this. Perhaps, if he had still kept in touch with his old pals, they could have tried to get him back on his feet. I hope he finds rest wherever he is now.

No. Zik Zulu is not trying to "subtly suggested that St Obi abandoned his friends because he felt he had hit the jack pot by getting married to a supposedly rich woman'. Rather he is trying to say that his wife manipulated him away from his acting career and consequently his friends who would be his support system. That's always the strategy they employ. And being an introvert, didn't also help the situation.
