The Vice Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Yusuf Datti-Baba Ahmed says it is not certain if there was a massacre at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State on October 20, 2020. Ahmed disclosed this on Thursday on Channels TV programme, Politics Today. According to him, the use of “massacre” during the October 20, 2020 event is highly debatable. “There was abuse of procedure, if some people interpret that as massacre. The use of 'massacre' in #EndSARS is highly debatable but I can say for sure there were abuses of procedure and civil rights violations,” he said. He added that it was “heavy” to say that the Labour Party was a beneficiary of the #EndSARS protest. Ahmed said, “It’s a very heavy statement to make, saying that our party, Labour Party is a beneficiary of EndSARS. While we are always on the side of the people, on side of good governance, we are against attrition; we are against repression and all those. “You may be more correct to put it in another way, but we are not direct beneficiaries of EndSARS. The use of the word ‘massacre’ is highly debatable. We never wanted EndSARS to happen. We never want any Nigerian whatsoever to be attacked. Accordingly, we are not happy for anybody to say we are beneficiaries of EndSARS. “We benefit from a peaceful Nigeria. That is what we benefit from. We benefit from progress and development. We are about correcting all the mistakes of bad governance.” SaharaReporters had reported that soldiers on October 20, 2020 opened fire on the protesters, who had converged at the Lekki tollgate to protest against police brutality. The incident triggered a global outrage, with calls for justice echoing from different parts of the world. It was gathered that before the shooting started, some officials uninstalled the Closed Circuit Television cameras in the area. The electricity at the protest area was also disconnected to prevent demonstrators from filming the attack. Minutes later, heavily armed Nigerian Army personnel moved into the scene to complete the plan. By the time sounds of their guns died down, dozens of protesters had been killed. Though Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu blamed “forces beyond our control” for the attack, the army in a statement later revealed that the soldiers were invited to the scene of protest by the governor. Also soldiers involved in the operation confirmed they were drafted in for the mission on the request of Sanwi-Olu. Angered by the killings by the army and the Lagos State Government's suspected involvement in the massacre, angry residents attacked public properties and also destroying some known investments of a former governor of the state and Presidential Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu. Television Continental and The Nation Newspaper are two among several investments burnt by irate youths. The toll plaza of the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, another money spinner said to be controlled by the former Lagos governor was also burnt. https://saharareporters.com/2022/10/20/endsars-i-know-abuses-lekki-tollgate-massacre-debatable-peter-obis-running-mate-datti |

Obasanjo stressed that only individuals trained by the armed forces had the capability to properly manage men and materials. Buhari, Sani Abacha and Babangida trained by Armed Forces. No difference between them and Tinubu. ![]() |

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo revealed on Tuesday the debt left behind by his predecessor, Willie Obiano, is in excess of N100 billion. Soludo, while speaking on the Morning Show on Arise Television monitored by Daily Sun said his predecessor left N300 or 400 million cash and a debt of over N100 billion as of December 31, 2021. The revelation from Soludo comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) recently arrested former Governor Willie Obiano at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. ‘First, in terms of finances, there is an audited account of Anambra as at December 31, 2021, which is a public document which anyone can access. Between the audited accounts as at the end of the year 2021, everyone knows that the state finances are not quite robust. In terms of debt, it is in the range of over N100 billion and then cash at which the state has is N300 or N400 million, but we are still going to have all the reconciliations and all the accounts from January to the date we had the handover,’ he revealed. According to Soludo, ‘Anambra State intends to have a transparent public finance management where we are going to publish our accounts so that everyone will have a knowledge of what is there and what is missing and what funds have been used for.’ Speaking further, the former Central Bank Governor, revealed that conversations around that are still ongoing as the state is engaging with all stakeholders to tackle security challenges in the state. ‘After the swearing-in, I went into the office straight away and a few minutes after that I started the security council meeting of the state which lasted more than three hours. The conversations about that are still ongoing and I believe that we will get to crack it and the sit-at-home thing will definitely end. We are in discussions with the stakeholders, IPOB and everyone else and it is the people’s power that will prevail at the end of the day. ‘The poor innocent artisans like keke drivers and traders are suffering; but the elite, they can afford to watch TV and so the state is losing out as its people are impoverishing. We are determined to restore law and order,’ he said. https://www.sunnewsonline.com/obiano-left-n400-million-cash-and-over-n100-billion-in-debt-soludo/ |
IPOB will be shocked by the likely result of REFERENDUM if it is done now. Monday Sit-at-home enforcement, unnecessary killings and general high-handedness of IPOB agents have really dealt a blow to its image and erode people's trust. They need to rebuild. #fact |
