Agriculture / Sales Opportunity For Tomatoes, Pepper And Vegetable Farmers In Ibadan by amdekola: 12:09am On Feb 09, 2016
Hello House, trust you all had a refreshing weekend. My name is Adekola and I represent Tomadel Ventures.

Tomadel is an agro-allied local commerce company in Ibadan, trading in fresh agricultural produce, primarily tomatoes, peppers and vegetables. Local farmers who grow these produce are an important part of our supply chain and we are inviting more farmers to join our existing network of farmers to improve their productivity while increasing their income.

The best part of this opportunity is that we'll handle the transport of the produce from your farm, so you don't have to worry about transportation.

If you run a farm in Ibadan growing the tomatoes, peppers or vegetables, please write to us at hello@tomadel.com or leave a whatsapp message on +46700229522 or +2348062073696

Looking forward to read from you.

Cheers and have a lovely week.

Hello TAEpiphany. I have to commend your clear, logical analysis of the market situation. As an intending plantain farmer myself, this is a huge concern for me. Unsteady market prices with farmers usually at the mercy of buyers is a turn off.

It seems to me that there's more value in processing than in having to sell at prices one can not plan or bank on.

Can I have your email address? I'd like to have some more of thoughts.

mine is madekola@live.com

Cheers

TAEpiphany:
Good-Evening bro,

Mmmmmmmmmhhh.........
We are gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.
The law of supply and demand states that if there is low supply and high demand, the price will be high. In contrast, the greater the supply and the lower the demand, the lower the price will be. Now you say demand exceeds supply, at what price? N30 per Kg? Well if there's massive desire for the product as you claim, trust me farmers will be selling for N300/kg, then you can rightfully say there's more demand than supply. Not because a group of people want supply every week at less than desirable price to the farmer.

The thing with plantain is that you will always sell, but at what price? For example you would like to buy at 30/Kg. A farmer that cannot find an alternative market will sell at that price out of desperation because a) It's perishable b) He can't find a better offer price. It tells me buyers are calling the shots. Now, that wouldn't be the case if demand was higher than supply and plantain was terribly scarce, then I'm sure you would be more than ready to buy at N150/kg, you get my drift?

Same thing happens in Mile12, there are times a dozen is sold at N18000 - N24000, recently same bunch of same quality, was between N1500- N4000.
How do you explain that? Glut, there were trailer loads of plantains without enough buyers at that present time. If demand is truly and steadily always higher than supply then we would have a steady market rate for plantain. A lot of people have gone into plantain farming, I'm sure they heard that plantain was selling for N2000 per bunch, well that's was because it was scarce at that time and people would pay a premium to buy it. Funny thing is no matter how cheaply the plantain is bought it never reflects in prices to direct consumers. If there's a price change it will just be slightly lower. For example, we know that a good packet of plantain chips/boli on the street of Lagos goes for an average of N100, whether the seller bought a bunch of plantain for N150 or N1500.

Hello Mr Yemi.

First off, let me commend you for your tenacity in keeping the thread alive and for the positive vibes which you bring to agriculture. That said, i'd like to have your email address as I could not find it anywhere in the conversations that have ensued.

Thanks in advance.

Agriculture / Re: Plantain Cultivation Is Increasing, Let Us Talk About The Market. by amdekola: 11:49pm On Jul 05, 2015
Well said, jethro. Standardization of a pool of farms is critical to ensuring steady supply of high quality plantain or any other produce for that matter.
jethro2:
I think our produce markets has got a lot to do with quality. The farmers are complaining of no good market, the highbrow end user are complaining of low quality produce. I use highbrow because mile 12 market is not where the imported fruits and vegetables are sold. There are people, organisations that are willing to pay for quality.
Also consistence supply and continuity. The buyers need assurance that you will not dissapoint them to dissapoint their own customers. How many of us can give assurance of supplying plantain all through the year?
There are a lot of technical issues
My suggestion will be for all the commodity produce eg plantain work hand in hand, set a standard within and among themselves with good agricultural practices from planting to harvesting.
If all plantain farmers on nairaland produce the same quality, they can collectivelly negotiate for fixed standard price market. In my quest, i met some organizations that needs constant supply of fruits and vegetables. They need nothing less than 1000 farmers to be producing for them. The reason is they wants produce of the same quality that could compete with international standard.
The plantain produce in the east or north or west could be of the same quality if we all use the same seed, same technical methods of production, same harvesting method, same means of storage and packaging.

The only difference will be in the traceability code to identify whose farm a particular batch is coming from
But can we ever be united and be professional in our dealings?

Any response please? Justwise??. TzeTzefly??

Uhmm, just a lil advice, before booking your travel be sure to have gotten the french visa. I would not suppose you'd have a problem since your finances are in shape. While a UK visa doesn't allow free entry to France, you can come in without a visa by Bus from London to some city in Northern France e.g Lille smiley

Good day readers. I hope you are doing just fine today.

Uhmm, I have not responded to some emails I received from some of you regarding specific questions on the Erasmus Mundus Program. It's been very busy here, but I'll set aside time to reply all the emails.

Do bear with me in the meantime.

And do not hesitate to visit the website of the Erasmus Mundus Program as it is in one of the comments on this thread.

Be good and God bless

Am fine thanks.

Usually, most erasmus courses start accepting applications from September to December/January each year. So it's best to apply now smiley

moneybag100: one of my brother want to apply for undergraduate, is he cool to go ahead? And how much you must have in your bank statement? What's their tuition fee range?

Of course, your brother can go ahead to apply for undergraduate studies. He has two options. He could opt to study in French or in English language. Studying in French is cheaper, about 500 Euros per year tuition, while studies in English language can range between 3,00 euros to 35,000 euros. You can check this website for information about Courses and Schools in France.

At the point of applying for visa, you should have sufficient money in your account to cater for your living expenses for the period you will be in France (about 700 euros per month)

mukapaul022: @ amdekola, why did they treated your application so fast even when I applied b4 u. I went for the priliminary interview whereby I meet rafiu omoleye and I was issued an attestation written in french and I went to submit my document @ the french consulate july 3 up till now my application is still under verification as I ave not gotten a call from the french embassy but I'm rest assure as I used a french pay slip, tax clearance and french nationality identity card and even lagalise it with a letter from the french prefecture in lille that belong to my uncle as he promised to sponsor to make it light he paid for the reservation of my accommodation in france. So I'm rest assure that I will get my french student visa if I'm not curse in jesus name. Will come back for the out come

I am equally positive about your case. To quote the lady that attended to me, she said the visa will be ready as sson as the consulate gets a response from the University you were admitted to. So you may want to inform the admissions office at your university in France that they should be on the lookout for communication from the consulate.

Cheers

For you to apply for a french Visa, you must already have admission to a french Higher institution.

Without admission to a french institution, you have no evidence to prove you are going to france to study

Travel / Applying For And Securing French Student VISA - My Experience by amdekola: 6:29am On Jul 18, 2014
Hi All.

Recently, I read through some threads relating to the experience of some Nigerians at the French Embassy trying to secure a visa. They mostly had one complain or the other with the overall sentiment being a negative one.

Well, having had a smooth experience with the same french embassy, I would love to set the records straight.

Here is my case:

I successfully secured admission into the Erasmus Mundus Masters program and being an exchange program, I'll be travelling to 4 countries during the Masters, starting with France.

Having got my admission letter, insurance and accommodation certificate, I appeared for a Preliminary Interview at Alliance Francais on Thursday July 3rd and submitted my application at the Consulate on Monday, July 7th.

True to their word, I was called to pick up my Visa on Wednesday, July 16th, exactly 2 weeks after my first contact with the Allaince Francais.

In hindsight, what I can say is that as long as you have something real to do in France and you have sufficient backing, your student visa application should be a breeze.

If you are applying for french student visa and you need information or dont even know where to start, feel free to drop me an email at
madekola [at] live dot com

Cheers.
