Samakus: That's for a country that actually produces. What do we produce here?
Increasing import duty won't turn us overnight producers. Nigeria critical sectors lack capacity to produce. Insecurity and non existent power supply is a key contributor to that
Increasing import duty won't stop or slow down importation. It will only make imported goods super expensive. The bad news, we import virtually everything, so every thing skyrockets You're very correct. Everyone is saying go to farm, but do you see how expensive food stuffs are? From the simple farm tools to the machineries, even herbicides , everything is imported from china. |

immortalcrown: Raising import duty now means increasing the cost of living.
When I did Economics as a subject in secondary school, I was taught import duty is used to control inflow of foreign goods. That is, low import duty attracts more foreign goods while high import duty discourages patronage of foreign goods.
But today in Nigeria, high import duty does not decrease the demand for foreign goods because consumers in Nigeria refuse to give up on foreign goods. But I don't blame the consumers. The government does not control the standard of local goods. Using local goods is suicidal in Nigeria. Almost everything is faked at traders' backyards.
Some people may praise BAT for this new import duty. The praisers will claim the new import duty will boost Nigerian economy by promoting local goods. But it is not true. Buhari closed borders with the same logic but life has been getting worse after the border closure. The economics in Nigeria is unique Everything works in the opposite direction of the what is obtained anywhere else. |

harsysky:
I don't think the guy far above me understands what corruption is. When I buy a product and decide to sell times 10 of what I bought, it hasn't made me a corrupt person. I have not taken anyone's money through fraudulent means because even the person whom I am selling to has a choice whether to buy or leave.
I think the number one problem of Nigeria is that the youths do not know their left from right. Someone steals you dry and all you could call corruption is a trader who toils day and night even in the midst of bandits to bring down goods to the people. Can you quantify the bad roads? Can you quantify the insecurities? What about the cost of transportation? When the youths wake up, this country will be better. We, the youths, are the major problem of this country.
Don't mind him jare. When you settle police, army, road safety, jtf, local govt State revenue services, etc. You'll know what's up |

This has become a daily occurrence in Abuja but it is greatly underreported. Communities in Bwari, Kuje Gwagwalada etc, are being raided on daily basis but none of the kidnappers has been apprehended. A lot have been killed, maimed and rendered homeless but nothing tangible is being done at the end of the day. If Abuja is like this, how about the other states ? Nowhere is safe again in this country. Only God protects. |

fm4real2k6: But why did you think so?
I actually will like to learn. I have a SKYMAX 9800HD pro and a dude said since i have a TV, i should use it instead.
Please i'd appreciate why a decoder is better . Using a decoder is like using your phone calculator for exam. It's not bad but you know decoder is specifically built for the purpose. I have been using my LG tv inbuilt decoder since my strong srt 497s remote spoiled. I enjoy a clearer picture on the TV but not as easy to control like the decoder. Also some TV might not be compliant with the format of some channels and till only bring out audio with no video or vice versa. |
