Education / My Journey With Invisible Allies - Valedictory Lecture By Prof A. B. Olayemi by AmeLonRo(m): 8:11am On Aug 19, 2023 |
Prof Albert B. Olayemi gave his valedictory lecture on the 16th of August, 2023 at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin. He titled his lecture as his journey with the invisible allies. The invisible allies here are microorganisms. It was a loaded one hour plus lecture of his life experiences before and during the university appointment till he retired. Get some snacks and enjoy your time listening and watching the video. Professor Albert Bamikole Olayemi was born on the 15th day of August, 1951. He was born into the family of Late Chief Micheal Olayemi and Mrs. Ibironke Olayemi of Iyara-Ijumu L.G.A., Kogi State. Prof. Olayemi was born into a polygamous family of twelve children and he happened to be in the middle of them all. Prof. Olayemi had his early days in the village of Iyara-Ijumu, Kogi State, Nigeria where he had his primary school education. All through his primary school days at St. Paul’s Primary School, Iyara, he was dogged in learning. His quest for a secondary school education took him out of the village of Iyara to the neighbouring town of Kabba, where he attended St. Barnabas Secondary School, Kabba. Prof. Olayemi passed the West African School Certificate (WAEC) with Division One in 1968. In pursuit of his desire to become a medical doctor, after secondary school, he proceeded for his Advanced Levels (HSC) at Federal Government College, Sokoto from 1969 to 1970. Upon completion of his A-levels programme, he advanced to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria for his Bachelor’s degree between 1971 and 1974. Prof. Olayemi was one of the best students retained by the Department of Microbiology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as Graduate Assistants in 1975. Hence, he started his well decorated university career in 1975. Prof. Olayemi’s love for knowledge made him to pursue a Master’s degree and bagged his M.Sc. degree from the same university (ABU) in 1978. He left the system briefly to join the Leather Institute of Technology, Zaria in 1981 as a Principal Research Officer. On realizing the difference, he rejoined the University system, working with the University of Ilorin as a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology in *** and obtained his Ph.D. in 1990 from University of Ilorin. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 1999. Although Professor Olayemi’s original goal was to become a medical doctor, it however changed to teaching afterwards. According to him, “teaching was the most prestigious occupation at that time”. This made him to be resolute in his approach towards his teaching and research career. Over the years of his teaching career, Prof. Olayemi has reproduced himself, through supervision/mentoring of several students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Some of his students are today reputable professors, senior lecturers in different higher institutions within and outside Nigeria. Several others are top rated captains of industries today. Prof. Olayemi said he considers that as his “most fulfilling achievement and success”. Professor Olayemi truly is an accomplished academic and has all through these years been proud of being a professor with no regrets. He believes the only thing that can top it all off is to become the Vice-Chancellor of a renowned university. Please subscribe to this channel and share the link of this video with family and friends. Professor Olayemi was not only an academic but also a socialite. He was, and still is, a member of various clubs both within the University and outside. He was once the president of Unilorin Senior Staff Club. At his leisure time, Prof. Olayemi plays games such as darts, draft and badminton. Prof. Olayemi held a series of administrative and managerial responsibilities on campus. . He was appointed as Director, Academic Planning Unit of the University of Ilorin in 2002. He was Deputy Vice Chancellor, Management Services, University of Ilorin, from 2008 to 2012. Other responsibilities held by Prof. Olayemi are: Chairman, Organizing Committee, University of Ilorin Aid for Haiti that raised 33,000 USD as Donation to the Republic of Haiti. He was Chairman, West African University Games (WAUG), in 2012 and raised N42,511,200.00 as donations. He was Desk Officer – MOU with Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea. The consummation resulted in donation of laboratory equipment and materials. Prof. Olayemi was appointed as Focal Person, Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, Ilorin (RCE-Ilorin) by the then-Unilorin VC, Prof Ambali in 2016. He held this position until he retired in 2021. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AotFjnY1jM |

My prayer for you is that God will open your womb as He did for Hannah. Hannah was loved and given a double and worthy portion by her husband. Despite this love and attention from her husband, she was barren. The Bible tells us that God closed her womb. This is another exposition and deliverance prayer for the opening of every type of closed womb. The birth womb will be opened. marital blockages will be removed. The door for international travel will be opened. The gateway to the completion of good projects that you started will be opened. I love you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd_toNKJyI4 |
Crime / Re: Nigerian Drug Kingpin Arrested With Ecstasy Pills In India by AmeLonRo(m): 1:52am On Aug 19, 2023 |
The menace of drug abuse and trafficking present a grave danger to the nation. There is a nexus between drug trafficking on one hand and organised crimes such as terrorism, kidnapping and money laundering. It has been a major dent on the nation’s image. Unfortunately, Nigeria is afflicted by all of them and can ill afford a further slide into drug trafficking. Fortunately the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) under the leadership of retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa has made efforts to rid the country of narcotics through seizures, arrests, and securing convictions. NDLEA said that between January 2021 and September 2022 it has seized several luxury cars, mansions, and frozen no fewer than 600 bank accounts with links to drug traffickers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czU8Qd7K7CQ 1 Like |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Niger Junta Leaders Begin Recruitment Into Militia Group by AmeLonRo(m): 1:49am On Aug 19, 2023 |
It is always interesting to write about the age-old relationship between the two republics of Nigeria and Niger. The two countries have been something of Siamese twins, always relating closely at both the diplomatic and interpersonal levels. I was amused seeing a post by someone on WhatsApp, deriding a border post between Katsina in Nigeria and a village in Niger, which was marked by two wooden poles. The person felt it signifies a lack of seriousness in the relationship between the two countries. But in reality that only goes to further underscore how closely related the two countries have been. The people see these borders as an artificial creation. Until colonial masters perfected their scramble for Africa, Katsina (Nigeria) and Maradi (Niger) used to be one entity. To date, the Emir of Maradi is addressed as Sarkin Katsinan Maradi. Daura (Nigeria) and Damagaram (Niger) also used to be one entity. The Emir of Damagaram is addressed as Sarkin Daura Magarya. These are only a few examples that abound all over the artificial boundary. For those of us from the northern parts of Nigeria, we hardly see Niger as another country. It is almost the same as how Lagosians perceive Benin Republic or in particular, the city of Cotonou. Inter-marriages between Nigerians and Benin Republic citizens, on one part, as well as northerners with the beautiful damsels of the Niger Republic are deeply rooted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czU8Qd7K7CQ |
Education / Re: Course Rep On The Run After Allegedly Embezzled 6.4M Textbook Payment by AmeLonRo(m): 1:33am On Aug 19, 2023 |
This is hilarious. The course rep is afraid of some things. The fear of the following made him do what he did. 1. He was afraid of poverty. This made him to bolt away with the contributed sum. His thought is that with 6.4 million his poverty problem will be settled or solved. 2. He is afraid an opportunity like this may not surface again and hence, he grabbed this one and fled. 3. He was concerned about his future financial stability and therefore, he saw the contributed 6.4 million as his way to secure his future financially. 4. He was afraid he might not get a good-paying job on time after graduation. 5. He ran away because he knew if he was around with the money in his custody he might be arrested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czU8Qd7K7CQ |
Religion / Trust God When You Are Afraid by AmeLonRo(m): 1:27am On Aug 19, 2023 |
The Secret to Trusting God When You’re Afraid What the Bible Says About How to Overcome the Temptation of Fear The way things are going in our world today, there is so much temptation of fear. There is so much temptation to run and hide or stay indoors. If we listened to every thought from fear that tempts us daily, we would never leave home. We’d lock the doors, order in all of our food, and we’d stay inside. But that’s not living, that’s being a prisoner. That is really what a spirit of fear wants for you. He wants to get you so scared about current events, about anything and everything around you that you stay locked down in those moments. Then, to top it off, when we do fall into fear because we are not perfect and we all struggle from time to time, the enemy accuses us. As a result, we feel guilt and shame which further keeps us from seeking Father God’s help. That is why it’s so important to learn the secret to trusting God when you’re afraid. The Bible holds insights to overcoming the temptation of fear and today I want to explore some of those with you. King David was an excellent example of someone who trusted God through fear Who better to use as an example than King David and the Psalms? David wrote this when he was running from King Saul and he felt like everyone in the world was after him and was against him. He starts in Psalm 56, saying, “Be merciful unto me O God for man would swallow me up. His fighting daily oppresses me.” If we want to see God alive and active in our lives, James 4:8 tells us we need to: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8 ESV). Drawing near to God is not trying to work for our salvation. It’s opening our eyes to see who God already is in our lives. It’s opening our hearts to experience God for ourselves. Sometimes we block God out of our hearts because we’re afraid to let God in our lives. We’re afraid to trust Him, or we’re scared that if we draw near we will be rejected or hurt. But when we harden our hearts in an effort to prevent ourselves from hurt, we block ourselves from ever truly knowing God. And that’s a high price to pay because we can’t experience God if we don’t know Him. The more I’ve drawn near to God, the more I’ve experienced Him in my life. The more I pray, the more I realize He hears me. The more I read my Bible, the more I realize His true and unchanging character. The more I choose to trust Him, the more I’ve miraculously witnessed His faithfulness. If you’ve found yourself searching for more in life I encourage you to draw near to God. I’m confident He has everything you’re looking for. PRAY Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being available to me. May I seek and find You all the days of my life. In Jesus Christ Name, I pray. Amen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czU8Qd7K7CQ |
