Nairaland GeneralRe: Do Public Holders Deserve Pension After Leaving Office by aminho(op): 1:50pm On Jun 18, 2012
aminho: Governor Rotimi Amaechi
of Rivers State has signed
into Law the Public Officers
Holders Bill allowing the
governor and his deputy to
receive 100% of their present basic salary as
pension among other
benefits such as: -Two houses each, to be
located in Abuja and
anywhere in Rivers state,
all furnished by
government.
-Cars for both the governor and his deputy, to be
replaced every three years.
-Free medical treatment for
the governor and his
deputy and members of
their families. -Cooks and stewards who
will also receive pension at
retirement, etc.
Kwara state had passed a
similar law in 2010; Gombe
state too. The Nigerian National Assembly also
approved a comprehensive
pension package for past
Nigerian leaders. Should political
appointments be
pensionable?
Do you think this is a
worthy scheme to be
emulated by other states?
