A security guard, Mikemon Solomon, who allegedly raped a nine-year-old girl, on Wednesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Solomon, who lives on Midou Road, Mile 12, is facing a one-count charge of defiling a child, an offence which attracts life imprisonment, if found guilty.

The prosecutor, Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 3, on Aishat Street in Mile 12, Lagos.

The victim reported the accused to her stepmother, and the victim’s brother subsequently lodged a complain at the Ketu Police Station.

The Northern States Governors Forum has been urged to create a five-year Arewa Economic Development Plan 2017-2022.

Head ofthe Arewa Center for Regional Development (ACRD) Dr Baba Adamu who made the call in a statement on Tuesday said such a plan should recognize the current realities and build on existing strengths of every state in the region.

Mr. Mbalu was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Sunday while he traveling from Agbor to Asaba.

He was blocked by armed kidnappers, who disarmed him and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Confiding in SaharaReporters, a senior police officer disclosed that Mr. Mbalu’s family established contact with the kidnappers on Monday, who demanded a N50 million ransom
payment.

According to our police source, the negotiations
are still ongoing.

While the identities of the culprits have not yet been confirmed, the police source believes they might be Fulani herdsmen, who have been terrorizing the state.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Aniamaka, said a police team has gone on a mission to rescue the DPO unhurt and smoke out those behind the act.

It would be recalled that the Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration has held several meetings with the leadership of the Fulani herdsmen across the state, none of which have yielded concrete results, as kidnappers continue to wreak havoc throughout the state.

The Minister of Information, Adebayo Shittu, has maintained that the South West has benefited more than any other region in the country from the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

In a chat with Vanguard, the Minister explained that except one, every state in the South West had a Minister.
According to Shittu, “I have come to be convinced, of all the zones that have benefited from the Buhari government, I want to believe that the South West is foremost in benefits and I will tell you why.
“Each of the six states of the South West except one has substantive ministerial appointee. Not only substantive ministerial appointees; ministers of key ministries.
“I am Minister of Communications which, over the last one year, has contributed more than 10 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We have a three-in-one minister in Fashola (SAN), who controls power, works and housing.
“We have a Minister of Health in Professor Adewole and you know how important that ministry is. And again, we have a Minister of Solid Minerals, which is an economic hotspot for an emerging economy like Nigeria and that one is controlled by Dr. Kayode Fayemi from Ekiti.
“It is only Ondo that has a minister of state. And Ogun has the Minister of Finance in Mrs Kemi Adeosun.
“I mean I don’t know of any geo-political zone, which has that bunch of opportunities. So, in terms of equity, the South West has benefited more. It has never happened in the history of this country when you have a Federal Government with this crop of ministers coming from Yoruba land.”
