Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode was recently visited by a delegation of Shiite Muslim leaders in Abuja, whose leader Sheik El Zakzaky is still being incarcerated by the federal government. Fani-Kayode claimed that the group leaders came to inform him on the situation surrounding their plights, especially the continuous detention of their leader and their constant harassment by the security operatives and the Kaduna State government. Fani-Kayode praised their courage and perseverance and condemned the continuous incarceration of their leader. “I was horrified by what I heard. These are very patriotic and courageous men whose colleagues have been through so much and whose leader is still in custody ," Fani-Kayode said on his social media. The Inspector-General of Police ( IG), Mr Ibrahim Idris, has disagreed with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on the number of people killed in the Southern Kaduna crises. The Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan had alleged that the unrest in Southern Kaduna had claimed over 808 lives, in 53 villages in the area. But Idris disputef thr claim in Abuja on Sunday at the new year dinner organised by the Nigeria Police Force for its personnel. He stressed the need for religious, community and political leaders to be patriotic in their endeavors for peace to reign in the country. The IG cautioned Nigerians to avoid unnecessary tension which could lead to destruction of lives and property. He said that Nigerians had no other country than Nigeria, hence the need to do those things that would bring peace and unity to the country. Idris advised Nigerians to live in peace with one another in spite of religious and ethic differences. He commended officers and men of the force for their commitment to providing security to all Nigerians across the country. Idris restated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to providing adequate security without bias to any section of the country. http://www.trudigest.com/2017/01/ig-disagrees-with-can-over-alleged.html |

The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Minna, Most Rev. Martin Uzorukwu, has said that churches cannot accomplish their projects due to the nation’s current economic recession. Uzorukwu said this in an interview in Minna on Sunday. According to him, the economic recession is a challenge to everybody, including the church, because some churches have projects to accomplish but cannot do so because of the recession. The cleric said the more the recession affected the church members, the more it affected the church. “The recession is an issue every church in Nigeria is committing to God in prayer because the church needs money for the work of God and for charity. “If patients go to hospitals, only to tell stories that they can’t pay hospital bills, the church writes it off for them,’’ he said. According to him, the recession has “increased our burden in paying school fees for many indigent students that their parents can’t help any longer. “You do know that I am a Bishop and not a Principal or an Headmaster. So, if we continue to offset bills for people, how can we maintain our schools, hospitals and then pay the staff. “The burden of the recession is taking its high toll on us and we are not relenting in prayers as we expect a radical turn around in this year 2017,’’ the cleric said. Uzorukwu urged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s leaders to enable them to contribute their best to the development of the country. “There is need for them to know that they are the servants of the people and servants of God. ”The commonwealth God has given to the country is for everybody,” he said. http://www.trudigest.com/2017/01/recession-hits-churches-as-incomes.html |

Nigerian Army of ‘Operation Lafiya Dole’ in the north east on Friday night made a heavy breakthrough when it arrested a Caretaker Chairman of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Shettima Lawan Maina for hiding a top Boko Haram Commander (name withheld) in his house at 1000 housing estate along Maiduguri- Damaturu- Kano road. Sources have said. The incident according to sources living at the same estate with the Chairman did not come to them as a surprise following the capture of Sambisa Forest, a stronghold of insurgents by troops that led to so many of the terrorists escaped to various places for safety. Mafa Local Government is east and about 40 kilometres drive from Maiduguri the state capital which had witnessed series of deadly attacks by insurgents, before it was liberated by the military early last year. A resident and neighbours of the LG boss said, the military and some security operatives stormed the house after getting an intelligence report that the top Boko Haram commander had sneaked into the house for safety. Already the source said, both the top Boko Haram Commander and the Chairman have been detained in a military facility to enable thorough investigation as to how a wanted terrorist will sneak into the house of the Chairman, knowing fully well, that politicians of such caliber do not usually allow access to their house of abode. When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Isuku’s phone lines were not reachable, but a top security officer who is not authorized to talk to the press confirmed the incident, stating that “The arrest and capture of the Caretaker Chairman and the wanted boko haram commander took place on Friday night following a tip off”. http://www.trudigest.com/2016/12/top-wanted-boko-haram-commander.html
