Carl Ikeme has said that he will avoid watching the 2017Africa Cup of Nations as a result of his disappointment after Nigeria failed to qualify.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper has been part of a new look Super Eagles squad led by Gernot Rohr who are in pole position to clinch a World Cup 2018 ticket after two qualifying games.

“We didn’t qualify this year which was a big

President Muhammadu Buhari will flag-off the Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) revitalisation programme aimed at achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has said.

Adewole announced this in a statement he
issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

He said that the flag-off would take place by 9 a.m. at the Kuchigoro, Gwarinpa PHC along the Airport Road, Abuja, on January 10.

A baby which was reportedly abandoned by its mother at the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway recently, has been picked up by some well meaning Nigerians

According to a Facebook user identified as Emmanuel Jolly, who shared the story on his Facebook page, the baby was found by the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, on the morning of January 7.

A father in the American state of Tennessee has been arrested by the police for attacking his daughter after seeing her Nood photos on Snapchat.

According to his daughter, a teenager, she was at home when her mother began arguing with her about the pictures she posted on Facebook.

Her mother then attempted to spank her, but when she wouldn’t let her mother do so, her father got involved. ⠀⠀⠀

Adamawa Police Command on Sunday confirmed the killing of three Mobile Policemen and the disappearance of two others in an attack by suspected herdsmen in Demsa Local Government Area of the state.

The policemen were among those drafted to secure Kwayine, Gidan Dadi and Karlahi communities after clashes that followed the killing of 47 cattle in the area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the development to newsmen in Yola, said that four rifles belonging to the policemen were also missing.

“Fulani militia attacked the three villages and we lost three of our gallant MOPOL while two are missing.

“We have constituted a high powered search team and by the special grace of God we are going to recover our men.

“On the side of the civilians, two bodies have so far been recovered,” Othman said.

Troops of 6 Division, Nigerian Army on Wednesday shot dead five suspected cultists during gun battle in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers.

General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Maj.-Gen. Kasimu Abdulkarim, who confirmed the killings, said the battle was part of “Operation Cleanup” of cultists and militants terrorising residents.

According to him, troops have so far recovered five AK 47 assault rifles from cultists in the area since January 1.

“Army 6 Division has recorded appreciable successes in its bid to rid the local government of cultists and brigands,” Abdulkarim added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), gathered from community sources that the incident started when troops stormed the area after receiving distress call over the cultists.

Eyewitness account said the suspected cultists invaded Omoku town on Tuesday night and shot dead two unidentified young men before making attempt to escape.

“After killing the men, they shot sporadically before soldiers closed in on them”, an eyewitness said.

NAN recalls the division recently launched a major operation in the area shortly after a DSP Mohammed Alkali and his orderly were beheaded by cultists during the Dec. 10 legislative elections in the state. (NAN)
