bought my mazda 626 about 14 month ago, the motor dealer ask me to remove the thermostart to avert over heating of the engine, I refused it, two day later I observe the temprature guage rising above the mid point. went to one of the auto technician and the fans were bridge two fans start on ignitin on) and thermoswitch wire disconnected.
During this period I used average of ten to 11ltrs of fuel to ibadan with AC on. From this forum I got to know that it was wrong to do that.
- With the help of video from google i was able to put the thermoswitch connection in order2nd fan on only while AC is on).
Having done that i went to Ibadan and I only used about 7.5-8liter to ibadan even with the AC, was very happy about it.
- I change oil and filter last week myself.
- I have replaced the rear brake pads.
- I have changed the sway bar likage(driver side).
- Adjust the idle speed
- Plan to change the front brake pads next month.

Give it a try, you could do better than that mechanic of yours. However ensure you know what you want to do before you start or else your mechanic will laugh you when you get stucked and still go to call him.

Gurus in the house, my 1995 Mazda 626, 1.8 engine will be one year next month. I bought the car tokunbo with mileage of 216,106km and its now on 231,686km

Want to take it for major service, what and what do you think I should change
and check for.

WHAT I HAVE DONE ON THE CAR SINCE I GOT IT
1- I have so far change the oil and filter 3times planning the next one during the major service next month.
2- Changed one of the shaft while it was making noise while turning about two month after I bought the car.
3- Changed both front brake disc when the car vibrate whenever I brake at high speed.
4- Change the back right side brake caliper due to leakage.
5- Change all tyres to new one in May because I travelled a lot.
6- wheel alignment and balancing done twice: did it when i bought the car and was done again when I changed the tyres.


presently I hear some noise from the suspension system most especially when am I drive on an uneven(Bad) road, I read from the internet that it could be caused by the weak linkages and ball joint don't know how true.

There is also this knocking(Valve) sound from the engine especially when the engine is has worked.

please, with all have stated above what and what should I changed and what other things should I check for?

Thanks all, I have change the plug and fuel filter, yet no difference.
I took it to a mechanic he could not help, he has to disconnect the auto choke connection
to get it stabilized but while I was driving home with AC on the engine almost stall in trafic.
when I got home, I did a check and observe he has disconnect the auto choke and I have to plug it back.

The plug wire I don't think its factory fitted, they are black in colour and the Inscription on it is [b]R-16-AIPS [/b]and the numbering from ignition cover.
I attempt to adjust from the idle adjustment screw and having listen very well its as if there is a air leak some where as I tend to increase the idle and the rev is not increasing.
I also got to know that, that was not the right way of doing it, that the best way is to jump STI(TEN) and GND on the diagnosis port before the adjustment can be effected, How true is that?
Do you stay in Lagos, can you refer me to a mechanic or where I can have the scan done.

sultaan: I have looked at your pics, everything seems ok, its all connected and temp is good, I just need you to confirm one information I can't read the label on the spark plug wires proper, can you please check if they wrote mazda on the wire and the year/number written after the mazda (just want to know if its factory)

After you post what is written on it you may just have to check on all the black hoses that goes from the air intake(air filter/duct) to engine and have mechanic clean the throttle body(the part with a butterfly valve they call "nozzle"

A scan will also confirm what I suspect, basically you may be running on 3 cylinders

sultaan: Do not adjust the slow, have them clean the throttle body, but post the pics first

please,how do I identify the Auto choke and where is it located?

Manual drive
The engine vibrate at Idle, Idling speed is about 650-700 rpm.
The issue started when I reconnect my thermo switch connection, before now the idle speed was at 1250 rpm.
The car fuel economy is far better than before, but the vibration is not making me feel comfortable with the car while am in traffic.
Please advice and educate me.

My current car, trusting God for a more advance and bigger one next year.

Costee: Well, since you say your temp gauge never reached halfway, you are probably without a thermostat or it's stuck open; so we may rule that out for now as a cause. So check your radiator for dirt and rust (and possibly replacement); the radiator cap for wear; and the water pump too for wear.

thanks costee, the thermostart has been removed, the radiator is new and the cover too, I would have mechanic check the water pump, or there a way I could check that myself?

About five days ago, I observe the temprature indicator of my mazda 626 97 model rise to the max 15-20 min having on the Ac.
Even without the AC the temp. indicator is about mid way, it was never like that before now.
Please, what do I check, need your advice.
