Thank you so much sir, i understood you but, it seems you're not really understanding me. I meant that, if after graduation(1yr program), then work for 1 year(pgwp). Then after working for 1yr (pgwp) and decides to go back to school for a diploma program, will the person show pof? amnotapervert: I know I write a lot and my statements are usually long but I answered all your question but I will answer again.
Yes — if you enroll in another program after your first year, you’ll need to show proof of funds again when applying for a new study permit or extension (unless you already qualify for PGWP and plan to work instead). |

If after the 1yr pgwp, and i decide to enrol into another program(diploma)....will i still show POF? amnotapervert: Good evening 👋
Let me break this down for you clearly:
1. Using Fixed Deposit as Proof of Funds (POF)
Yes, a fixed deposit / mutual investment fund certificate can work, but IRCC is very particular about liquidity. A few things to ensure:
Evidence of history – show that the fixed deposit account has been active for some time (not just recently created for visa purposes). Provide the certificate + account statement covering the period.
Liquidation proof – if you’re liquidating, get an official letter/statement from Stanbic IBTC confirming liquidation and transfer of funds into your personal (Access Bank) account.
Bank statement (main account) – make sure your Access Bank account shows the inflow from Stanbic and that the balance reflects the required POF. Include 6 months’ statement to prove financial consistency.
Letter of explanation (LOE) – attach a simple explanation in your study permit application: explain that you had the funds invested in a fixed deposit for safekeeping and have now liquidated them to make funds available for your studies.
At this point, the key is to make your Access Bank account look strong and reliable*at the time of application. Immigration officers want to see you have funds readily available, not locked away.
2. Strengthening Your POF
To solidify:
Get official bank reference letters from both Stanbic IBTC and Access Bank confirming account ownership, balances, and dates. Ensure no sudden suspicious large deposits shortly before application (except the liquidation inflow, which you’ll explain). if possible, add sponsor’s affidavit (if applicable) or show multiple sources (e.g., partial family support, scholarship, etc.) to diversify.
3. If You Do Another Program After 1 Year ( FYI do not tell IRCC you want to do another program after 1 year for now)
Yes — if you enroll in another program after your first year, you’ll need to show proof of funds again when applying for a new study permit or extension (unless you already qualify for PGWP and plan to work instead).
Example: If you finish a 1-year program and apply for another program, IRCC expects to see POF for that new program (tuition + 1-year living expenses). If you transition directly to PGWP, you don’t need POF anymore. |

Good morning guys, does Stanbic ibtc mutual fund give Certificate and statement of account for an investment showing how much was invested, period, interests and how the investment grew to its present stage, if I want to liquidate? |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Amycanada(f): 10:49pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
Good evening house, please I’d like to confirm if this will work:
I’ll be given a fixed deposit certificate showing that i have been running a fixed deposit (stanbic ibtc mutual investment fund), and that I am now liquidating it. Afterwards, the funds will be transferred to my personal account (Access bank) about one week before I submit my Study Permit application.
Whatelse do I need to do to solidify the process...Or what can I do at this point...I'm applying for study permit for Winter 2026.
Secondly, if after one year program in Canada and I decide to do another program, will I still show POF for the new program?
Please, someone should answer me🙏🙏 |

I'm so grateful. I'm relieved now. Thank you sir Gerrard59: Okay, I am sorry for my harsh words.
Regarding undergraduate, the information is scarce because most courses, and I am not sure your programme is excluded, are offered in Japanese. Also, there is the EJU, which is an entrance examination for foreigners into Japanese universities at the undergraduate level. My concern is your age, as language schools might be hesitant in admitting you. An overlooked aspect in undergraduate education outside Nigeria (even if na Ghana) is funding. How do you intend to fund this education for the next 3-4 years?
The other option is to use your HND to apply to national universities as a research student (minimum of six months and max of 12 months). If asked about your degree status, do well to explain the differences and put forward your distinction result to show how brilliant and disciplined you are. The other option is to apply to English teaching jobs, which will offer you an entry into the country, then you can pivot to a degree-based education as you save up some funds.
For Japan, the bottleneck isn't the visa but the admission and funding. Once the admission is secured and the school is satisfied with your funding arrangements, the COE is mailed, and with the COE, visa issuance is almost certain. |

Gerrard59: Shey you have seen what I talked about? Na you dey answer these people. The one I responded to, if not for the spam bot, he would have blocked me because I don't understand why someone will come to a 50+ thread without reading from the beginning to know how far.
To show how unserious the person you replied to is, read here:
Anyone who had read the last ten pages would not ask about the bold, but innately indolent people do so, and unfortunately, do so for a living! I have gone through the pages here, but it seems confusing. It's not straightforward like UK, Canada applications. I also have not seen undergraduate applications too....na masters and PhD I saw. Don't be mean please...the Canada application I did, I got the information here and applied myself, no one did it for me...I couldn't continue because of the funds. Most of these non English speaking countries do not have an easy and straightforward application process. I literally slept here last night trying to understand the country (Japan) but it seems like it's not sinking. |

For those in Canada already. How is the economy and living as an international student over there like?
After paying my one year full tuition (one year program), and having the required living expenses of 21k CAD, will the part-time job of 20hrs be enough during my studies?
Please I'm very curious and bothered to know this. Is it tough living in Canada as an international student and after wards? Are there nice paying jobs? |

Good day fam. I would like to ask if 8 months certificate program will pose a red flag during visa application.
I'm going for a certificate course (8months) which is a pathway to a diploma program. So after the 8months course I'm expected to proceed to the diploma which takes 2 years to complete in the same college. |
Travel › Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Amycanada(f): 6:02pm On Jun 18, 2025 |
amnotapervert: They are not typically called community colleges in Canada — that's an American term used to describe colleges located within cities.
Also, the notion that colleges are far cheaper than universities in Canada is far from accurate , especially for international students Keep in mind that international tuition fees are often three times what domestic students pay.
In general:
Tuition fees for international students range from CAD 10,000 to 15,000 per year. You also need to budget another CAD 10,000 to 15,000 for living expenses (accommodation, food, transportation, personal costs, etc.). So, if you want to study comfortably, you should plan to spend between CAD 20,000 and 30,000 per year all-inclusive.
When comparing costs:
Master’s program at a university may cost around CAD 15,000 to 20,000 per year college program typically ranges from CAD 13,000 to 18,000 per year
As you can see, the difference is not very significant — maybe a CAD 2,000/year gap on average, which is relatively small when you consider what you might be gaining with a Master’s degree.
Also, many colleges and universities charge similar fees, depending on the program and province.
From a long-term perspective:
Master’s degree holders are eligible for more immigration pathways. For example, Ontario has a PNP stream specifically for Master’s graduates
Some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) prioritize candidates with advanced degrees.
A Master’s degree gives you higher points in Express Entry — 135 points vs. 128 for a post-secondary diploma. Trust me you need all the points you can get
It also typically leads to higher salaries, faster career growth, and helps you stand out in Canada’s competitive job market.
I always advise people: If money is the issue, look for public universities with:
Lower tuition fees Higher or moderate acceptance rates
For example, Memorial University (in Newfoundland and Labrador) is one of the most affordable in Canada. Last year, international Master’s students paid around CAD 3,222 to 4,833 per year — that’s less than 5 million Naira a year!
https://univcan.ca/about-universities-canada/facts-and-stats/tuition-fees-by-university/
With proper budgeting, you could complete a full Master’s program for under 15 million Naira total.
Plus, after graduation, if you get a job and meet the criteria, you may be eligible for the NL Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) under the International Graduate Category
Just remember
Always choose a school and program with a long-term goal in mind. PR is not guaranteed. Jobs are not easy — you’ll need to hustle and position yourself well. So, it’s not just about selecting any school — you need to be strategic
I could say more, but I’ll stop here. Thank you for this insight, Sir. But I'm going for an undergraduate program. I have HND in Crop Production Technology and I can't do a direct masters with it. Besides I want to change a career path. So I'm starting all over. |

Neurotika: Have you reached out to them to address the issue? Mine is a bit complicated, and I’m not satisfied with the explanation they gave then. I noticed my balance stagnated for several weeks in November, but then it increased significantly at the end of the month. However, it reverted back to its previous state shortly after. They stated it was a system error, yet the same thing happened again yesterday. I suspect that the system didn't apply interest during those days, which is why my balance keeps normalizing and reverting at the end of each month. But they won’t admit that. The difference is over 500k. Yes, thank you. That was the first thing I did this morning. They assured me the money is safe and would be sent to my main account before 08/01/2025. That my accrued interest is sent out every 3 months. They also said I would experience this again in the next 3 months, so I shouldn't be scared. It's my first time though, that's why I was so scared and no one explained all these to me. |
