The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, today, visited the casualties of a petrol fire explosion that occurred on Atani Road in the outskirts of Onitsha, the largest commercial city in South East
Nigeria, last night.

The governor who arrived Toronto Hospital, Onitsha where thirteen
people who sustained various degrees of burns in the explosion which was erroneously speculated to be a bomb with his aides was quick to allay the fears of the residents on the incident and assure them that the state was safe.

He regretted that because of the prevailing scarcity of petrol,
Nigerians had resorted to storing fuel in jerry cans in residential
areas thereby exposing themselves to extreme danger and warned the people to desist from the habit of storing petrol in their homes as
the consequences were often dire.

He advised Ndi Anambra to demonstrate greater safety consciousness by keeping all inflammable items away from their homes to avoid unpleasant occurrences. The Governor also undertook to offset the medical bills of the casualties.

Also speaking at the hospital, Dr. Madu Nwankwo, a resident physician with Toronto Hospital explained that the victims who were rushed to the hospital at midnight on Tuesday sustained mostly superficial burns and assured that the casualties were all in a stable condition.

Three casualties, two females aged 30 and 17 and a 25 year-old male were seen receiving attention at the hospital. The explosion was reported to have occurred in a settlement known as Kara Market which is located along the Iyiowa axis of Atani Road.

Court stops The Swearing in of Victoria Nyeche for criminal impersonation, illegal use of Assembly Letterhead
A Rivers State High Court has restrained the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from Swearing in Mrs Victoria Nyeche of PortHarcourt State Constituency 1 for criminal impersonation and illegal use of Assembly Letterhead when she was not an inaugurated member of the House.
This followed a suit filed by Livingstone Wechie and granted by Hon. Justice Adolphus Enebeli of the Rivers state High Court, stopping the Swearing in of Victoria Nyeche of Phalga Constituency 1 for impersonating wherein she wrote a petition to the CJN against the Assembly confirmation of CJ of Rivers state, using the letter head of the Assembly and addressing herself as member of the Assembly even when she had not been administered oath of office or sworn in.
The order was granted on April 20, 2016. Therefore, she will not be sworn in along others...
The matter has been adjourned to April 28 for the hearing of the substantive motion on notice.
Lawyer to Livingstone Wechie , Barrister Kingsley Chuku said that the Speaker has been served and Victoria Wechie will not be sworn in

One of the particularly memorable ones is the 39th offala festival, marking the 40th year on the throne and 90th year on earth of His Royal Majesty, the Traditional Ruler and Eze Okpoko of Oba town in Idemili South Local Govt of Anambra State, Igwe Peter C Ezenwa (MFR). Described as the mother of all offalas, the great event was attended by political juganuts and top public officers, traditional rulers, captains of industry including the Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano who shared felicitations and sat on the same sofa with his predicessor Chief Peter Obi, Chief Victor Umeh, among others. Many masquerades and dance groups took there turns. Its happy many returns to Eze Okpoko Oba, Patron of the Anambra State Council of Traditional Rule.

Living up to his promise to ensure that the best quality of work is done for Ndi Anambra, Gov Willie Obiano today inspected the last part of the 3 state of the art flyovers nearing completion at Kwata Junction, Awka.

Obiano, impressed with the pace and quality of work, promised to ensure that all the needs of the contractors are met as the flyovers will not only beautify the capital city but will also ease traffic; encourage tourism and consequently boost the state's economic status.

According to the contractor handling the projects, all 3 flyovers will be completed by April 2016.
