A fourth-placed finish in the Premier
League could yet mean a club misses
out on qualifying for Europe's premier
club competition next season
The race for a place in the Premier
League's top four looks set to be the
most exciting for some time, with up to
six sides fighting it out to finish in the
three places behind champions-elect
Chelsea.
But there could yet be a final twist in the
tail for one of those sides even if they do
secure fourth-place in the top-flight.
The winners of both the Champions
League and Europa League are
guaranteed participation in next season's
Champions League while no country is
allowed more than five participants in the
competition.
That means, if both Leicester City and
Manchester United go on to lift European
silverware and finish outside the top four,
then only the top three in the Premier
League will qualify for Europe's premier
club competition.
PLAY
Leicester will almost certainly finish
outside the top four given their domestic
struggles this season, and though they
are huge outsiders to go on and win the
Champions League, their recent upturn in
form means they will likely be a match
for anyone.
United, meanwhile, sit sixth in the
Premier League table despite a 17-match
unbeaten run, with fixture congestion
meaning they remain outsiders for a top-
four finish. They are, however, heavy
favourites to go on and win the Europa
League.
And so while both remain in European
competition, the likes of Tottenham,
Manchester City and Arsenal may need
to start thinking about ending up in the
top three, rather than just settling for a
fourth-place finish. |

The action of a pre-school teacher in the United States has called for an international significance, after she saved a five-year old pupil's life by providing the child with one of her kidneys. The teacher, Beth Battista said that she had no hesitation in offering her kidney after hearing of Lyla's protracted search to find a suitable donor. "I knew I just had to get tested rather than watch her suffer," she said. Both Beth and Lyla are now recovering after the successful transplant operation last Wednesday. The teacher and mother-of-two said that she heard about Lyla's condition after her mother Dena Carreyn shared a Facebook post about the girl's desperate need for a living kidney donor. Lyla was diagnosed a year ago with microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), a rare autoimmune disorder which requires 12 hours of dialysis a day. Beth contacted the the UW Health Transplant Program in Wisconsin and, after two tests in July and August, was deemed to be a suitable donor for Lyla. It was a rare match because she needed to be the right blood group with few antibodies picked up from previous bouts of sickness. She also needed to have matching antigens. In September she discovered that the child was to be a pupil in her class at the Kids' Express Learning Centre in Madison. The operation itself required surgeons to make four small incisions in her stomach in order to pull the kidney out, before taking it to Lyla, who was in a nearby hospital ward. "It was the same level of a pain as having a caesarean," the teacher told the BBC, "but I'm pleased to say that as soon as the kidney was put inside Lyla it began working immediately." "I was discharged from hospital 48 hours after the surgery and am feeling OK although really tired. "But I am told this common among donors because their remaining kidney needs to grow to make up for the missing organ. "I'm really proud to have saved her life." Trump, who has made anti- abortion
policy one of his campaign promises ,
announced the revocation on Monday, in
a statement issued by the White House .
“I hereby revoke the Presidential
Memorandum of January 23 , 2009 , for
the Secretary of State and the
Administrator of the United States
Agency for International Development
( Mexico City Policy and Assistance for
Voluntary Population Planning) , and
reinstate the Presidential Memorandum
of January 22 , 2001 , for the
Administrator of the United States
Agency for International Development
( Restoration of the Mexico City Policy) .
I direct the Secretary of State, in
coordination with the Secretary of Health
and Human Services, to the extent
allowable by law, to implement a plan to
extend the requirements of the
reinstated Memorandum to global health
assistance furnished by all departments
or agencies .
I further direct the Secretary of State to
take all necessary actions , to the extent
permitted by law, to ensure that U. S .
taxpayer dollars do not fund
organisations or programmes that
support or participate in the
management of a program of coercive
abortion or involuntary sterilisation ,” the
statement said .
Trump said “ the memorandum was not
intended to , and does not , create any
right or benefit , substantive or
procedural , enforceable at law or in
equity by any party against the United
States, its departments, agencies , or
entities, its officers , employees, or
agents, or any other person ” .
“The Secretary of State is authorised and
directed to publish this memorandum in
the Federal Register ,” Trump’s
statement read.
With the revocation , Trump has barred
U. S federal funding for foreign NGOs
that support abortion , relaunching a
battle that has long divided Americans .
The abrogation came just two days after
women led a massive protest march in
Washington to defend their rights,
including to abortion.
The decision to ban foreign aid to
groups that lobby in support of abortion
rights is certain to deepen concern
among already apprehensive U. S. family
planning and women’s rights
organisations , according to observers .
Stenny Hoyer , a Democratic leader in
the House of Representatives, sharply
criticised Trump for using his first week
in office “ to attack women’ s health” .
“It should be no surprise to the millions
of women and men who gathered in
protest this weekend across the country
and around the world that Republicans
are focused more on making it harder
for women to access health care than
on the serious economic and security
challenges we face. ”
The restrictions imposed on Monday
prohibit foreign non - governmental
organisations that receive U . S. family
planning assistance from using non - U. S .
funding to provide abortion services,
information , counseling or referrals and
from engaging in advocacy to promote
abortion.
They were first put in place in 1984 by
Republican president Ronald Reagan .
Later eliminated by Democratic
president Bill Clinton , they were
reinstalled by his Republican successor
George W . Bush , and annulled again
after Barack Obama took office .
Galvanised by Trump ’s November 8 ,
2016 election , abortion opponents in
states where Republicans held power
moved swiftly in December 2016 to
adopt draconian anti- abortion measures
that in some cases pose challenges to
constitutional liberties .
Trump, meanwhile, has pledged to
nominate an anti -abortion justice to the
Supreme Court , which could lead to
overturning Roe v . Wade , the emblematic
ruling that legalised abortion in the U .S .
in 1973 . |

Messi's international retirement provoked a huge
shock in Argentina. Many fans have asked for
the striker to think again his decision and a
teacher even wrote a letter to Barça's ace. In
that card, Yohana bleeps, a teacher from the
Entre Ríos province (Argentina) , asks Messi to
think about the example it will give to the
younger people and that he can't "let
[her] students think that this country only cares
about winning and coming first." Yohana bleeps's full letter to Leo Messi "Lionel Messi, You will probably never read this letter. But I will write it all the same, not as a football fan but as an Argentine teacher, in this profession that I chose and love as you love your own. I could write to you about your marvelous talents in the most beloved sport in our country, the pleasure it gives me to be one of the generations lucky enough to see you display magic with your boots, or about the admiration you awake in every country in the world. But that would only serve to repeat cliches. Instead I will write for your help in a much tougher challenge than you have ever faced, I want you to help me in the difficult mission of moulding the behaviour of those kids who see you as a football hero and an example to follow. No matter how much love and dedication I put into my work, I will never receive from my students that incredible fascination they feel for you. Now they will see their biggest idol give up. I beg you not to give the satisfaction to mediocre people, those who, frustrated by the thousands of dreams they didn't achieve aim their resentment at a football player, those who speak about the rest because it is free and easy to do so . You are hearing this from a teacher who, despite the distance between us, deals with that nasty Argentine habit of thinking somebody else's job is simple, that scoring goals is as easy as building a house or a future for a person. It is that sick compulsion to bring someone down, or turn into idiotic judges that slam with contempt and arrogance the performance of others, only valuing victories and writing off mistakes as failures, those same errors that make us human and keep us learning. Please do not give up, don't let my students think that this country only cares about winning and coming first . Do not show them that no matter how successful you are in life, you will never manage to keep the rest happy and, worse still, do not make them feel they must live to make others happy. Do not send them this mistaken message that, despite overcoming so many adversities, fighting from a young age to become the triumphant man you are today, all that is tainted by the critics of those envious people who deep down would kill to be like you. If something like you, who had your family at your side, who has a hefty personal wealth and the support of so many people, cannot do it, how can they believe they are capable of carrying on with so many battles to fight, day-in, day-out? I do not tell them about how wonderfully Messi plays football, but of the thousands of free kicks he practised to manage to put the ball in an angle beyond the reach of any goalkeeper. I tell them about the Messi who put up with countless painful injections to keep chasing his dream; the Messi who with all the money he has earned helps other kids like him with their own difficult situations; I tell them of the adult Messi, the man who raised a family and deals with the most important job in the world, being a good parent; the Messi who stops a fan who mobs him in the middle of a match from being harmed; the Messi who can even miss a penalty because our faults make us humans, and that shows them even the greatest of all time is imperfect as well . Do not give up, don't put away the shirt with our country's colours because when you wear it you become an Argentine that represents us all, and we don't all expect medals and cups to feel wonderfully proud you are one of us. Please do not make my students feel that coming second is a defeat, and that the value of a person depends on how many trophies they win, or that losing a game is losing glory. My students need to understand that the most noble heroes, whether they are doctors, soldiers, teachers or football players, are the ones who give the best of themselves for the good of others, even knowing that nobody will value them more for that, knowing that if they do manage a triumph it will belong to everyone while if they fail it will be their failure alone. Even so they keep trying. But above all, they have heroism and courage, when they fight and overcome losses with bravery and integrity, even with the whole universe saying we will never make it. And one day they will enjoy the greatest victory: they will feel happy being themselves, with the demons they had to face in order to make it no longer an issue. They all talk about balls, I believe in the strength of your heart." source: www.weloba.com/the-tender-letter-of-a-teacher-to-messi |

According to Chief Simeon Abanulor, the National Chairman, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria, the price of bread in the country will soon be increased. According to him, this is necessary “to enable bakers to remain in business.” “We are helpless because the price of raw materials ranging from flour to sugar, wheat and butter, has gone up," he said at a news conference in Umuahia, Abia state on Friday. As a result, most bakers are struggling to stay in business, he said. “It is therefore imperative that for us to remain in business, we will have to increase the price of bread.” Abanulor said they had tried to discuss with flour producers to reduce their inflated prices but were rebuffed. “They told us that there is nothing they can do because the Federal Government is not giving them foreign exchange and that they source it by themselves at the parallel market. “They maintained that they cannot sell below their cost price.” Abanulor explained Herald https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/nigerian-bakeries-will-soon-increase-the-price-of-bread-master-baker.214827/ |

An African American man who spent nearly 40 years behind bars in the US state of Ohio for a murder he did not commit will receive $1 million from the state for his wrongful imprisonment. On Thursday, an Ohio Court of Claims judge ordered that just more than $1 million be paid to Ricky Jackson. Jackson said he learnt about the payment from a reporter who had called him on Thursday afternoon to get his reaction over the court order. “Wow, I didn’t know that,” Jackson said. “Wow wow wow, that’s fantastic, man. I don’t even know what to say. This is going to mean so much.” Michele Berry, his attorney from the Innocence Project, said a financial advisor will help Jackson to handle the money in the wisest way. After hearing the news of the court order, Berry became emotional and expressed her appreciation for all that the innocent black man went through. “It’s been an honor to work for and with Ricky,” she said. “He’s probably the wisest person I’ve ever met.” In November, Jackson, 57, and Wiley Bridgeman, 60, were both exonerated in a 1975 murder after a key witness against them, who was 13 years old at the time, admitted in 2013 that he lied during his testimony. Eddie Vernon, now 53, told a minister who visited him at a hospital in 2013 that he had never actually witnessed the crime. He said Cleveland police detectives coerced him into testifying that the men killed businessman Harry Franks on May 19, 1975. The Ohio Innocence Project, which took up their case, said Jackson and Bridgeman’s 39 years imprisonment mark them as the longest- serving exonerees in US history. According to a study released in April, one in every 25 death row inmates in the United States is innocent. Approximately 3,000 US prisoners are waiting to be put to death. African Americans are also far more likely to be arrested and imprisoned by police than any other racial group, according to a recent analysis by USA TODAY. Experts say the dramatic gap in arrest and prison rates reflects biased policing as well as the vast economic and educational inequalities that plague much of the US. An Indian couple in their 70s welcomed their first baby into the world on April 19 with the help of a fertility treatment. “It was very important for us,” 72-year-old Daljinder Kaur told Barcroft Media following her son’s birth. “I can live happily now. My life is complete.” Kaur and her 79-year-old husband Mohinder Singh Gill who have been married for 47 years have been trying to conceive for two years. They regularly traveled six hours from their home in Amritsar, Punjab to the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre where Kaur endured multiple rounds of In Vitro Fertilization, a procedure that manually combines an egg and sperm to create an embryo that is inserted back in the uterus. “I first tried to avoid the case because she was very weak, but then her medical reports were normal and she was fit to conceive,” said Anurag Bishnoi, who runs the fertility clinic. And Kaur and Gill aren’t just beating the odds when it comes to having a child at their age, they also have both surpassed the average life expectancy in their Indian state of Punjab. The average man in Punjab only lives to about 70 years old, while women usually live until 72, according to data from the Indian government. Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes
has 'reached a verbal agreement'
that would allow Paris Saint-
Germain to buy Cristiano
Ronaldo this summer, UK Mirror
reports.
The Portuguese superstar has
long been linked with a move to
the French capital, and flirted
outrageously with PSG's Qatari
president Nasser El-Khelaifi last
autumn when the two sides were
meeting in the Champions
League .
As recently as last month there
were reports that not only had
Ronaldo flown to Paris for talks
with the Ligue 1 club, but that
there had been multiple
meetings and that Ronaldo was
preparing for life away from
Madrid.
Le Parisien are now claiming
that Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo's
agent, has reached a verbal
agreement with the club for a
transfer. However, this is only
valid in the case of his departure
from Spain, which is by no
means certain.
With Real Madrid in the
Champions League final , the
player and his entourage are
refusing to respond to any
questions over his future for risk
of uncomfortably diverting the
story away from events in Milan. Source: www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/ronaldo-agrees-psg-transfer.211705/ |
