It's quite different, companies hire by referral and that's OK, it's their private business. But here we're talking about the federal civil service commission where every qualified Nigerian should be given an equal opportunity to jostle for the available positions, and please hiring someone simply because their dad knows someone who knows someone in the government is not referral, it's nepotism.
..........which is CORRUPTION and should not be expected in this CHANGE federal administration, innit huh
Until we define corruption in a holistic and comprehensive manner, we cannot make progress as a nation.
Imagine that the person employed on the basis of connection and nepotism is very unlikely to betray the person who employed him by being a whistle blower of the corruption happening in the ministry, department or agency (MDA) of government.
For the avoidance of any doubt, corruption is inclusive of but not limited to stealing of public funds.

citizenisb:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.

“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.

The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.

“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”

End of story! See d way some dolts are yapping around as if when Saraki or any senator is on the move with his convoy, police escorts and blaring siren the Customs on the road can even stop him to check for customs duty papers!

It is d common man tooling around in his personal car that will get pulled up, harassed and attacked by the Customs. On the spot they will decide how much your car should have cost, accuse u of undervaluing your car as if u are a clearing agent or d customs officer that cleared it before and then prescribe customs duty arrears that will make one weep.
Indeed it is terrible how most of us, ordinary Nigerians, do not realise how we are the ones who currently suffer the discriminatory treatment by law enforcement agents at all levels in different agencies.
Instead of pushing for EQUAL and equitable treatment of all Nigerians before the law, many of us will be hailing one set of public servant oppressors against another set. It is high time we point out consistently that they are all bad and useless such that they can start to get better all to our overall benefit.

The embattled former candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo State, Jimoh Ibrahim may have finally decided to throw his support behind the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr.Rotimi Akeredolu in tomorrow's governorship election.
This may not be unconnected with his last minute replacement with Eyitayo Jegede by the Court of Appeal.
In series of tweets, Jimoh Ibrahim extolled the outstanding qualities of Akeredolu and publicised his support for his candidature for the governorship race.

"The people of Ondo have no choice than to Love Akeredolu. I know him as a selfess politician with peerless leadership. #OndoLoveAkeredolu".
"I can see #OndoLoveAkeredolu everywhere. Why won't the people of Ondo Love Aketi? He's a consistent politician with first class integrity". He tweeted.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Jimoh Ibrahim had lambasted the candidate of Alliance for Democracy, Olusola Oke, for his greed, desperation and despicable political prostitution. shocked

If Jimoh follows the path of these recent revelations, he may end up voting against his party in protest on Saturday.

http://www.leadershipnigeria.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=28:the-vague-future-of-nigeria&catid=28:friday-column&Itemid=56

Lord Lugard, the former governor-general of Nigeria, in 1926, wrote his unfiltered thought about Nigerians.
From his book, The Dual Mandates, come these excerpts: "In character and temperament, the typical African of this race-type is a happy, thriftless, excitable person, lacking in self-control, discipline, and foresight. Naturally courageous, and naturally courteous and polite, full of personal vanity, with little sense of veracity, fond of music and loving weapons as an oriental loves jewellery. His thoughts are concentrated on the events and feelings of the moment, and he suffers little from the apprehension for the future or grief for the past. His mind is far nearer to the animal world than that of the European or Asiatic, and exhibits something of the animals' placidity and want of desire to rise beyond the state he has reached.

"Through the ages, the African appears to have evolved no organised religious creed, and though some tribes appear to believe in a deity, the religious sense seldom rises above pantheistic animalism and seems more often to take the form of a vague dread of the supernatural. He lacks the power of organisation, and is conspicuously deficient in the management and control alike of men or business. He loves the display of power, but fails to realize its responsibility - he will work hard with a less incentive than most races. He has the courage of the fighting animal, an instinct rather than a moral virtue. In brief, the virtues and defects of his race -type are those of attractive children, whose confidence when it is won is given ungrudgingly as to an older and wiser superior and without envy. Perhaps, the two traits which have impressed me as those most characteristic of the African native are his lack of apprehension and his lack of ability to visualize the future"

Guys lets discuss the thoughts of Lord Lugard. he had  a supremacist view obviously. But is he right in the way he describes Nigerians and Africans in general? How many of the issues that he raises are valid?

Letz get some responses

AllTheWayUp:
Former factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Jimoh Ibrahim, has described his legal battle to emerge as the party’s governorship candidate as a ploy to stop Governor Segun Mimiko from helping Eyitayo Jegede win the Ondo gubernatorial election.

Jimoh Ibrahim has said he deliberately destabilized Governor Olusegun Mimiko through legal battles.

Jimoh Ibrahim was earlier declared as the PDP candidate for the Ondo state poll by the Federal High Court. READ ALSO: Ondo Election: INEC threatens to arrest party chieftains, VIPs But the Court of Appeal sacked Ibrahim as the party’s candidate and ordered that Mr. Ibrahim be replaced with Eyitayo Jegede, who belongs to the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party.

Jimoh in a new footage which emerged on Friday, November 25, said all the legal drama that characterised the PDP in Ondo state was a plot by him to frustrate Mimiko and waste the time of Jegede. He said: “Election will be held on Saturday. No matter what they do, it’s gone. “Mimiko is just wasting his time. There’s nothing he can do. “I decided deliberately lock him up and waste his time for three weeks…took him out the state, destabilized him. “Now I have released him…two days to the election. He is dancing Unclad,” Ibrahim said while smiling.

Meanwhile, the political tension in Ondo state has escalated following a threat by a group, the Alliance for Democracy Renewal Group (ADRG) to attack officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The group in a statement signed by the its national coordinator, Tunde Aderemi on Friday, November 25, alleged that INEC had concluded plans to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) – Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN). According to Vanguard, it called on the people of Ondo state to protect their votes even if it entailed shedding the blood of the INEC officers, a call it said is an act of “patriotism”.

Twenty minutes to midnight on February 25, 2013, and a day before the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria was due to meet, Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi developed a craving for romance—he badly needed a kiss.

The governor, married, with children, grabbed his mobile phone and typed out a message. “Maybe you should come kiss me before board meeting tomorrow,” Mr. Sanusi wrote and then squeezed the send button.

At about 9 a.m. the next day, Mrs. Maryam Yaro, a married mother of two, an assistant director and subordinate to the governor at the CBN, arrived Sanusi’s unnamed Abuja hotel, seeking to keep the date and help address her boss’ craving for a kiss. (Insiders say board members, including those who live in Abuja, are usually lodged in hotels ahead of board meetings).

But by the time Mrs. Yaro left the hotel to return to her official desk at the CBN, the duo had also struck out an arrangement to spend the rest of the week together in Lagos.
So, in the evening of Wednesday February 27, Mrs. Yaro flew to Lagos ahead of Mr. Sanusi and checked into a hotel in the city, skipping work, at taxpayers’ expense, on Thursday February 28 and Friday, March 1.

To keep faith with Mrs. Yaro’s date, the CBN governor arrived Lagos, travelling on a chartered flight, on the night of February 28, and checked into the Federal Palace Hotel, passage and boarding all at taxpayers’ expense.
