tawa89: PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has expressed regrets that he did not become the president at a younger age as there is a limit to what he can do at the age of 72.
He made the assertion on Monday while addressing members of the Nigerian community in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he also vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will "kill" corruption in the country.
The president, who recalled his times as state governor, petroleum minister and military head of state, also explained that he repeatedly contested the presidency because of his belief in the practicability of conducting free and fair election in the country.
He expressed confidence in the unity of the country, saying that even though there are some 'crazy' people who talk about the disintegration of the country, the country will never break up.
Buhari stated: "How I wish I became Head of State when I was a governor, just a few years as a young man. Now at 72, there is a limit to what I can do.
"But what brought me there I think mainly is because I love this country. I was in the war front for 30 months during the civil war. I lost a lot of loyal people to me, I lost relatives. A lot of Nigerians did too.
"We lost about two million Nigerians just to keep Nigeria one. So, nobody should come now and tell us rubbish. We are going to remain one country. God has given us another opportunity to reorganise this country. Those who work hard, the society will pay them back."
He said he had been told that there were 83 Nigerians in South African jails, disclosing that he would discuss the matter with President Jacob Zuma during his planned visit to Nigeria in the near future.
Buhari also revealed that he would inquire from the South African president about the whereabouts of the $9.7 million the Goodluck Jonathan's administration had transferred to South Africa for the botched arms purchase.
The president added: "I refused to speak from this draft speech because I wanted to speak to you from the bottom of my heart. Please, keep Nigeria's pride close to your heart, make sure you behave yourselves. If you find yourselves here, obey their laws. Where you don't obey their laws, you will have to bear the consequences.
"I'm told they are 83 Nigerians in prison, I don't know what they have done but I spoke to the President of South Africa this afternoon. He wants to come to Nigeria. There are issues he knows to talk about, I will certainly talk to him.
"I hope our ambassador will send a comprehensive report about the court cases, about those who lost properties during the disturbances and at that time, I will attempt to ask him about our $9.7 million which was not correctly transferred."
frisky2good: Noone has been arrested and prosecuted so far but if you are caught with one cup of crude oil it is economic sabotage.
Truly the dullard in Aso Rock is an ethnic bigot and champion of nepotism. This is CORRUPTION instead of our narrow definition of just stealing. Never mind the sellout who is called Asiwaju Asiwere of thugs and touts.
Why is the dullard in Aso Rock not sending soldiers to raid and arrest them like he does for oil bunkers in the Niger Delta? Oh, I forgot- these are the owners of Naijeriya. Untouchables! Sacred cows!! Protected species!!!
HardMirror: So I am a member of BMC and I opened a thread to call out sarrki, omenka and the rest for they way they "asslick" buharis ass?
Did you see my question mark Anyway I have checked your profile and it seems you are driven more by apathy against religious leaders than anything else. Cheers.
HardMirror: I have seen a lawyer lend his client 500k. It is over 3 years now, she has been unable to payback and the case is still in court (N40m at stake with other properties).
You are simply confirming what I said earlier- the lawyers are working for a COMMISSION/ share of whatever amount will be awarded in the case.
And when I did my IT training I was the one paying for my upkeep, while I had friends who were handsomely paid by the companies they worked for. Cos to be honest IT is work here in Nigeria and most of us worked for free and were over used sef.
In short, you were in the MINORITY, just as I said. Most graduates in our country, Nigeria do not work for free in order to "build their name (get experience).
HardMirror: And buying a car for daniella okeke another known olosho.
Based on confirmation from Daniella Okeke or court verification of the claim by Ot.Obo I thought you worked with a lawyer? Did you not learn anything from your association with the learned fellows Abi you are just spreading lies and propaganda as a member of BMC on N250k payroll?
HardMirror: I have worked for a laywer before. Infact he was involved in the Asa's case when she was accused of being a lesbian. There are cases you don't charge money for as a laywer because it is a high profile case especially when big compensation is involved. Did you miss the part were they demanded N500million in damages? Is that not money?
And who told you Nigerians don't or won't do volunteer work they believe would boost their CV? So you think Nigerians are so bad they don't do volunteer work?

I can understand you- but the lawyers are not working for free. No! They are working for a COMMISSION or share of the civil damages that the court will order. No different from an estate agent who sells houses for a commission. That is different from graduates working for FREE just because they want to "build a name" (gain experience). This is not common in our country, Nigeria. Simple.
islandmoon: what is so special about this matter, people bang people everyday, if he banged you, why are you publicizing it?
women are so shameless! and so? what a gold digger!!
Please let us not generalise. Not every woman is shameless like this. Some are really hardworking and financially independent. Let us address Ot.Obo on her own case.
Chrisharry: All these wahala because Suileman spoke out against the killing of Christians! There is God o! Thiis wouldn't stop me from speaking out next time.
It is terrible, bro. Meanwhile this funky mallam was hugging a woman like there is no tomorrow. Yet he was rewarded with Emir of Kano thereafter. Bloody HYPOCRITES wrapped up in religiousity.

dainformant: According to her, she is just fighting for her right because he must have done this to other women and got away with it.
Please what is her right that she is fighting for? Does anyone know? Can the person please tell us. It is also remarkable that she is on TVC- JagaBandit's propaganda channel for the Association of ProgreTHIEF Criminals, APC lie lie stories. Someone needs to reset her brains properly with a better hot slap.
HardMirror: Too many kids on nairaland. If you were not a kid, you would know the most expensive lawyers would do high profile cases for free, because that is how they build their name. You the client is actually giving them more than most of their clients would pay. Thru such cases they become more popular. And a lawyer would not allow his client make the claims otobo has made if they don't have evidences, else his career is finished and his client would so rot in jail.
Is that why Nigerian graduates are doing volunteer work for free, because that is how they build their name (and experience)

It is remarkable that they are now using plastic containers. This is a big improvement in the VALUE chain for farm produce and we should move towards COLLAPSIBLE designs for even easier handling. Kudos to the farmers who feed us and hope they get BIGGER monetary rewards as we look inwards for our feeding instead of imported things. BTW, our government needs to SPECIFY local content for Shoprite supermarkets products also.
dangwarmai: Try not to remain a problem to our dear nation. this is what Yaradua started even before Jonathan and is now completed by Buhari. May God bless all of them.
Are you calling the dog of ubima, an enemy of the state for DENYING the existence of the railway rehabilitation work carried out under Jonathan's administration. At least the dog of ubima was compensated with a ministerial position. What is your own compensation for BMC work beyond the N250k crumbs salary
The Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has stated that he never knew that the railways means of transportation still existed in Nigeria.
Amaechi made this remark on Tuesday when he and other officials of the ministry toured facilities of the Nigeria Railways Corporation, NRC, in Lagos.
He disclosed the intention of the Federal Government to concentrate on building standard gauge railway lines that would be beneficial to the country’s status as a developing economy.
His words: “In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.
“The federal government will concentrate on standard gauge of the railways, because it is critical that Nigeria becomes one of the countries founded on standard gauge. The only time I had seen railways (trains) or the coaches was one or two days in Lagos, and I thought it started from the beginning of Lagos to the end of Lagos.
“So we need to make people become more aware that the narrow gauge is working, and that people can still use it to travel around that country. There was a joke somebody told me that it takes three days to reach Kano from Lagos on the narrow gauge, and when I asked the managing director of NRC, he said no, it takes one and half days; I said: ‘what’s the difference between three days and one and a half days?’ So that is why the government has to re-emphasize on the need for the construction of the standard gauge to help boost the economy,” the minister stated.
hotspec: So moving tomatoes with train for 38hrs from Kano to Lag is Progress? When d same quantity can be moved by by Trailers in less than 14hrs. Moving Cargos from Apapa or PH or Warri to Inland Ports in such hours would have been a PROGRESS as it will drastically decongest those already over-stretched ports, and many jobs will also be created.
Yes it is PROGRESS, which has many definitions including:
stinggy: Now we are beginning to think smart. The Kano-Lagos rail has never been shut down for the whole 58 years so I wonder why no one thought of this safer and more effective means of moving produces.
GEJ did well on railways but that particular route has always been active (passenger and cargo coaches) since my childhood so if you would give praises, start from the regime that built the tracks.
Why are you being STINGY with the truth Do you want to contradict the news report by BBC and other media outlets in 2013 i.e. four years ago?
Can Nigeria's renovated railway unite north and south? 13 February 2013
The railway linking the economic powerhouse of Lagos and the conflict-hit north of Nigeria has reopened after more than 10 years. The BBC's Will Ross made the 31-hour train journey and asks whether the train line can help unite this divided country.
Nigeria's railways are making a comeback after virtually grinding to a halt.
The first sign of progress is the reopening of the long defunct rail link between Lagos in the south and Kano in the north. "This is my first experience on a train since I was at school in the early 1990s. I heard about it through BBC Hausa service so I'm giving it a try," says a Lagos-based businessman, as the train rumbles along at a steady 45km/h (28mph).
"Credit to the government, although we need a better service," he says.
Another passenger shrugs at the 1,100km (685 mile) journey to see his relatives in Kano. He will have just more than a day with his family before having to catch the weekly return service.
"This is a development. I once spent five days travelling by train from Lagos to Kano. The engine would be removed from the train and it be taken for a service whilst we would stay on board," he says.
The state-owned Nigeria Railway Corporation says the rehabilitation of 1,126km of track has cost 24bn naira (£98m; $153m).
With a one-way ticket starting from 1,930 Naira (£7.50; $12), it is far cheaper and, some say, safer than travelling by road. "Last year an armed robber attacked us on the road. There was shooting but thank God we escaped. I feel safe on the train," says passenger Bukola Ogunbanjo.
En route, we pass abandoned relics of the once thriving railways - rusty, dilapidated carriages and goods wagons as well as crumbling stations.

AngelicBeing: When will your friend Buhari provide cheap / subsidize housing to the masses, you campaigned for him during the electioneering period as a member of his national housing policy and he assured us of cheap and affordable housing, where is it because l am still sleeping on top of Zuma rock, bitten by mosquitoes daily
Mambox: You are right, the Lagos infrastructural masterplan was designed under Tinubu while Aregbe was works minister. Implementation was pretty low cos the govt was frustrated by the Obj govt and had to aggressively pursue a robust IGR model which successive govt reaped heavily from.
Aregbe 's only miss was perhaps designing projects with same robustness as Lagos with no foresight into a possible dwindle in resources handed down from Abuja. All in all, he remains the most vibrant, energetic, committed and sincere gov among his peers.
Association of ProgreTHIEF Criminals, APC people can tell lies sha. What infrastructural plan without provision for:
- schools to enroll ALL children in the state - tap water - feeder roads and inner street roads
Since when did a state have a MINISTER? Ebola Owu seized only the LGA funds due to the UNCONSTITUTIONAL creation of additional LGAs by the Asiwaju Asiwere of touts and thugs. The amount frozen was only N10 billion. Moreover the JagaBandit was begging the same Agbaya of Ota to be the "navigator" of their useless reformed PDP party christened APC. Baba Kabiru is a thief, plain and simple who is owing salaries for two years and pensions for much longer. He is no different from most of the other 35 governors whom we allow to misrule us.
A few days after President Umar Musa Yar’Adua reportedly ordered the cancellation of the controversial sale of the Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries, he has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo, to immediately release to Lagos State government its seized local government funds amounting to N10.8 billion.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had ordered the withholding of almost N33 billion of the state’s local government funds over the creation of local government areas. Although the state later reverted to the original 20 local government areas, while converting the new ones to development areas, Obasanjo only ordered the release of a part of the money. He refused to obey the order of Supreme Court for the release of the funds.
Great post. You should add that bathrooms and kitchens should be close to each other and share walls as much as possible to save on plumbing works and materials. Best wishes for your hustle.
Treasuredlove: my dear, it is not about the title of the position, it's about how moral, how well paying. Some graduates have gone to work in places like lekki as housekeepers for as much as 40k per month where they get free housing and food, the wise ones saved up for businesses, while some private school graduate teachers get 8k a month and they still have to pay bills
Would you agree that it was a WASTE of time and money for their presence on "campus" getting a PAPER qualification only to end up as a househelp wherever All this DYSFUNCTIONAL situation is because we look on like lost souls while our public servants award themselves salaries and pensions anyhow for doing NOTHING!
ta4ba3: Ambode is working.. haters are hating... fvck political party vote for personalty not party.... EKO ONI BAJE OO
A state governor is doing LGA work and the supposedly smart people of Lagos state are praising him How will the state become EXCELLENT if all the different TIERS of government are not doing their jobs as required by the constitution? No wonder the Association of ProgreTHIEF Criminals, APC has been RIGGING the local government elections to keep everything within its control so the state governor does the LGA's work for adoration by the 200 million mumus that are living in the state.
