The rice that those women imported, who allowed it thru the border? Customs.
Saraki's reduced import duty, who allowed that? Customs
All you Nairalanders who uses car, I am sure the person who sold you the car must have devalued the car to pay a reduced duty. But at the end of the day, who issued you the import papers? Customs.
Over 600 arms that was seized the other day, who cleared those weapons? Customs
Jimoh Ibrahim that just bought a Royce Ghost, I can bet he didn't pay the full duty, who cleared that machine? Customs!!!

If there is curuption in customs, fix it from your end n stop taking your anger out on the people who are trying to cope with your Boss's shambolic economic policies.

I don't fancy Saraki one bit but as far as Nigeria is concerned, you can't win a fight against him. Even Buhari has stylishly accepted that. The Evil Beautiful bride.

I don't like the Senate but I support them 100%. They can ask Ali to show up unclad for all I care.

Don't mind the gullible masses they don't know that the evil policy is targeted at their Toyota corrolla and not any bulletproof range

End of story! See d way some dolts are yapping around as if when Saraki or any senator is on the move with his convoy, police escorts and blaring siren the Customs on the road can even stop him to check for customs duty papers!

It is d common man tooling around in his personal car that will get pulled up, harassed and attacked by the Customs. On the spot they will decide how much your car should have cost, accuse u of undervaluing your car as if u are a clearing agent or d customs officer that cleared it before and then prescribe customs duty arrears that will make one weep.

Indeed it is terrible how most of us, ordinary Nigerians, do not realise how we are the ones who currently suffer the discriminatory treatment by law enforcement agents at all levels in different agencies.
Instead of pushing for EQUAL and equitable treatment of all Nigerians before the law, many of us will be hailing one set of public servant oppressors against another set. It is high time we point out consistently that they are all bad and useless such that they can start to get better all to our overall benefit.

So you people are saying it is better to check vehicle import duties on the road than at the ports?
and also to subject vehicles more than 20 years old to custom checks.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.

“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.

The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.

“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”

Vio and Road Safety are nice guys, if you have a good approach, they could let you off for 2k on a serious offense. But if customs hold you, especially if you are travelling on a road like Benin-ore or Abuja-lokoja, you will curse yourself for even leaving the house that day..cheesy cheesy and they are always heavily armed.

It is incumbent on all well meaning Nigerians to lend their unalloyed support to those two. The Senate doesn't mean well for us, and discerning Nigerians can see right through their gimmicks.

With respect to the customs service ,
its officers are required to wear uniforms . But since the CGC
is not a serving customs officer the senate lacks the vires to
force him to wear any uniform. “ The suit challenging the
legal validity of Col . Hameed Ali ’ s appointment has been
dismissed on the ground that the President has the power to
appoint a non - customs officer to head the customs service
. Since the court has held that he is not a customs officer,
Col . Ali cannot be made to wear any uniform . “ I challenge
the Senate to refer to any law that supports the wearing of
uniform by the head of customs service , who is not a
serving customs officer.

I think that if Mr Ali was convinced of the propriety of the suspended policy to impound vehicles with insufficient duty payment, he ought not to have cancelled or suspended it at least until he had addressed the Senate who summoned him to explain the policy. I also don't think that appearing in the uniform of the CG of Customs as required by the Senate should be too much for one who supposedly has d interest of Nigeria at heart.

Why did he hurriedly suspend d policy if it was well thought out? Why are we hearing this news now? This happened on January, why was it hushed? Is it some kind of smear campaign? Ali's pride stands larger than his diminutive self and that is what d Senate has sniffed out n latched upon if this story is anything to go by. If he'd published this incident of importation of a car with false documents by the Senate president and calmly worn his uniform when summoned, he'd be like d stuff heroes are made of. We knew those Senathieves were actually fighting their own fights. They were not fighting for Nigerians. They have never fought and will never fight for the people.

But the customs were also part of this. Ali should sack all customs officers that cleared that vehicle with incomplete duty payment to serve as deterrent to other officers.

This is another case of corruption fighting back.
