izombie: what is wrong with some of you? Yes gej has come and gone but you guys are still on him after 2 years. The 16 years you are referring to, most of the people that were destroying naija in those 16 years are in apc now continuieng their destruction of naija. The problem with this government is not past administration but their policies. Companies have sacked workers or folded up because of buhari and his policies. Other companies have relocated to other countries. You talk about cutting down on costs and spending but i ask you, has buhari cut down on anything? The presidency has been allocated more allowances, the senate and house of representatives have also more allowances. The president that budgeted billions for one hospital in aso rock finds it appropriate to travel to oversea just for check up. The feeding allowance for aso rock is almost 2billion now. The worst part is that these people do not even have any plans on how to solve the problems they have created. No matter how you try to defend and twist these things, buhari is the worst president ever in nigeria. You should be ashamed of yourself for trying to defend this. Buhari has failed woefully. Indeed, he has failed woefully. The more reasonable supporters have left him and abandoned the politics section out of shame. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4875399_image_jpeg9f360c5ab7736510df54c882e9dbf188 www.nairaland.com/attachments/3488962_image_jpeg9f360c5ab7736510df54c882e9dbf188 |

texazzpete: I wonder if his cheap ploy to blackmail the FG into selling him subsidized Forex worked? It won't work because he does not belong to the born-to-rule tribe like Dangote, although the dollars are from Niger Delta oil sales. Those who believe the old sick man is fighting corruption need to have their head examined, don't you think Reuters confirms massive corruption in foreign exchange sales: Buhari favours Dangote firms with official rate
As Nigeria grapples with a foreign exchange crisis, one person stands out in the scramble to obtain hard currency: Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man.
When the government restricted the supply of dollars in June 2015 to prop up the value of the Nigerian naira, firms owned by Dangote landed a healthy share of dollars available at the cheap official rate, a study by Reuters shows.
Reuters examined foreign currency transactions made during an 11-week period in March to May this year. Over that time, Dangote businesses were able to buy at least $161 million in hard currency from the central bank. That was around nine percent of all the hard currency the bank sold over the period. In a single week in March, one dollar in every eight went to Dangote companies. There is not enough data to see how that stacks up with the companies’ share of foreign trade.
Compared with buying dollars on the more expensive unofficial market, though, Dangote companies benefited to the tune of about $100 million.
The wrangling for dollars highlights Dangote’s pivotal role as Africa’s biggest economy tries to diversify away from oil.
Over the past year, Nigeria pegged its currency, the naira, to the U.S. dollar at an official rate of 197-199 naira. The central bank doled out dollars at the official rate to companies it deemed strategic to the Nigerian economy. Until June 20, when the bank abandoned the peg, anyone else had to pay a lot more on the black market.
Small businesses complained that the foreign exchange restrictions were forcing them out of business. Frank Jacobs, president of the Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria, said that the majority of manufacturers – 2,000 of them – had been unable to source raw materials because they could not obtain dollars to pay for imports. Up to 100 firms either shut completely or cut production, he said. “The large companies have better clout.”

adegoody: We need somebody like Gov. Ambode come 2019. Someone with fresh ideas #Ambode2019 Which Ambode The one who has dilapidated schools all over Lagos and cannot guarantee all children are enrolled free and compulsorily in schools? Or another Ambode? Awo achieved that feat over 60 years ago. Jakande achieved and expanded on it to secondary schools with free TEXTBOOKS over 30 years ago. These two with lower per capita budget than the akotileta called Ambode. HungerBAD: At a time when knowledge acquisition in other climes is getting increasingly sophisticated, the same cannot be said to be the case in most parts of the country.
While the much-touted leaders of tomorrow in some states attend classes in ad-hoc environments including under trees, unsafe environment and sundry locations, Lagos State, many say should never be found in the company of such needy states.
But that is not the case. As a matter of fact, students in some schools in the state are taught while sitting on bare floors, while classrooms in some schools across the state are without roof, sundry fittings and devoid of requisite learning aides
Oshodi Nursery and Primary School, Oshodi, which has been in deplorable condition for a very long time is a classic example of this sad story.Located only a few kilometres away from Bolade Bus Stop, along Oshodi/Agege Motor Road, the school, which has up to four buildings within the premises, sees pupils scampering for safety anytime it rains, even as the learning process also has to be halted at such times. This explains why parents and concerned residents of the area are urging the state government to come to their aid, by rehabilitating the school, and providing an enabling environment for the pupils to learn, in consonant with their rights to attend school in conducive environments.
The pathetic condition of the school first attracted the attention of The Guardian Newspaper, which carried a report to that effect in The Guardian on Sunday edition of February 7th, 2016. Ever since that publication, nothing has been done to improve the fortunes of the school.
This gross neglect suffered by the school, has provided a leeway for miscreants in the area to sneak in for regular Indian Hemp smoking sessions. They sometimes defecate in the open classrooms, thereby compounding an already bad situation.
When The Guardian visited the school last week, over 20 classrooms are without roof, just as empty plastic bottles and empty sachets of water jostled for space.
Some of the residents who spoke to The Guardian said they have on several occasions written letters informing the state government about deplorable state of the school, and the need to rehabilitate it, but without any positive response.
They said because of the ugly condition of the school, most of them had to relocate their children to other schools, adding that only indigent students still attend the school.
One of the residents Mr. Edwin Mathew, said parents of the pupils have raised the issue of renovation on several occasions with the school management during Parents Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, but nobody is saying anything about it.
Mathew said: “This school has been in this form for a very long time and nobody is saying anything about it. We have written letters to government but there have been no responses. We feel government has forgotten this school, and some parents have taken their children to private schools. Only a few parents still bring their children to this school because the school has been abandoned.
“I want to use this opportunity to beg the state government to come to our aid because our children are our investment so, we would not like to play with their future.”
A parent, Mrs. Kafayat Dada, said she personally wrote several letters, but when nobody responded, she visited the Ministry of Education in Alausa to inform them of condition of the school, but nothing has been done till date.
Dada said: “I have been to places to find out why the school has been abandoned, along with other parents because we suspected that government must have awarded contract for the rehabilitation of the school buildings. We found out that the contract has not been awarded, but I want to use this opportunity to ask Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to come and rehabilitate the school for our children. We are not happy with the terrible condition of the school because it is an eyesore. Our children have right to school in a conducive environment like other children in the state.”
Secretary, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board Oshodi/Isolo Local Council, Lekan Alausa Adekoya, explained that it was rainstorm that removed the roofs of the buildings in September 2014, and ever since the school management has written several letters to the state government, through the State Primary Education Board (SPEB), to rehabilitate the school, but nothing has been done.
He called on the state government to take the school building as a priority project, and rehabilitate it. He said: “As you can see, it is an eyesore and we do not like the situation. I feel one day it would be the turn of the school to be renovated because I believe government has not forgotten the school.
“One non-governmental organisation promised that it would rehabilitate the school for us in 2016, but because of the economic recession, the group apologised it would no longer happen. It is a project that would take millions of naira, so, there is nothing we can do on our own other than to write letters to government, which we did on several occasions. I know very soon by God’s grace something would be done because it is a public school and the children have right to stay and learn in a conducive environment. “We try our best to see that the situation of the school does not affect the learning process. We thank God that we are in dry season because whenever it rains, the learning process is affected because of the open roof.
“Government should intervene in this matter. I know that government has other projects to handle, but it should make this school a priority project.”
Responding to the use of the school by miscreants and hoodlums for binging, he said, “We have arrested some of them before with the help of the police. We discovered that it was some children of some landlords in the area, including some tenants and traders in Oshodi market that litter the school environment.”

ephi123: Nonsense. What should we do with this? ..........make amala plus eba and egusi with it na. The propaganda presidency is working to launder the image of the sick old man seriously. Moreover Alhaji LIE Mohammed has to spend his budget that is bigger than that of the agriculture ministry. That is how the Association of ProgreTHIEF Criminals, APC is making change in our country. Revealed: How Buhari Budgeted N39 billion for Propaganda
In a bid to launder his already battered image, President Muhammadu Buhari has allocated a whooping sum of N39 billion in the 2016 budget to the Ministry of Information and Culture, a sum higher than the paltry N29 billion allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture.
This is a direct inverse of the 2015 budget, where Former President Goodluck Jonathan allocated the sum of N23 billion to Ministry of Information and N39 billion to the Agricultural Ministry.
The meager allocation to the Agricultural ministry has left political stakeholders wondering if the present administration aims at diversifying the economy or thriving on propaganda.
Buhari had in August, 2015 stated that Nigerians must stop paying mere lip service to agriculture, as crude oil and gas exports will no longer be sufficient as the country’s major revenue earner.
“It’s time to go back to the land. We must face the reality that the petroleum we had depended on for so long will no longer suffice. We campaigned heavily on agriculture, and we are ready to assist as many want to go into agricultural ventures,’’ Buhari stated.
However investigations by Post Nigeria revealed that Buhari’s words did not match his action following the lean budgetary provision for Agriculture.

jeffoski: If our government really take care of the police force and other security operatives in all levels, I am sure they will be more active and diligent. Make them also give the other ranking officers better cars and welfare packages and ensure discipline among them. Firstly, giving officers better cars is NOT good as it clogs traffic among other negatives. Better to improve PUBLIC transport and give them enough salary to buy their own car for weekend use, if that is their priority. Secondly any upgrade in their remuneration package won't work if done alone without commensurate reduction in the bogus salaries of our public servants. I Will Maintain a modest lifestyle as President -Muhammadu Buhari.
“One of the major killers of our economy apart from corruption is waste. Our scarce resources are being plundered away very carelessly and unnecessarily wasted. Let me give an instance, presently, there are more than 6 aircraft in the presidential fleet. What do you call that? Billions of naira is budgeted every year for the maintenance of these aircraft not to talk of operational cost and other expenses.
You may want to ask what a Nigerian President is doing with so many aircraft when a Prime Minister of Britain fly around using the same public aircraft like an ordinary Briton.
Go and check and compare with that of any developed country in the world, the office of the Nigerian President is a very expensive one inspite our high level of poverty, lack and joblessness. Despite all these, you still find a Nigerian Minister spending about N10billion to charter an aircraft for just one year. Now, for me, when we come into office, all these waste will be blocked and properly channelled into our economy. We intend for instance, to bring back our National carrier, the Nigerian airways. We shall do this by bringing all the aircraft in the presidential fleet into the Nigerian airways and within a year increase the fleet into about 20.

I hope that Ambode plans to send them to schools first to be properly educated free as Awo did in the 50s and Jakande in the 80s Not like the gbewiris of the Association of ProgreTHIEF Criminals, APC of the past 18 years. anonimi: In just six years (1954-1960) as Premier of the Western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo transformed the region through FREE primary education and scholarships for secondary and tertiary education to our bright forebears while building Liberty stadium, WNTV-WNBS, Cocoa House, Obisesan Hall, laying the ground work for the establishment of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo university). All these was achieved WITHOUT Niger Delta oil revenue rather mainly on cocoa revenue based on the 50/50 retention/contribution formula then.

In just four years (1979-1983), Alhaji Lateef Jakande transformed Lagos state by reviving Awo's FREE education policy and extending it to secondary schools with even free textbooks. He ensured PUBLIC primary and secondary schools were available for all residents of the state, running multiple shifts as necessary while RECRUITING and training teachers by setting up LACOED and other Teacher Training Institutes! In addition he established LASU, LTV, ferry services and started construction of the metro among other laudable achievements despite a shoe string budget from low crude oil price at the time. That metro project was cancelled by Buhari after his coup and locking up Jakande

Facts have emerged that the erstwhile Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may have been involved in a white heroin trafficking network which operated in Chicago and some parts of Indiana and led by one Adegboyega Mueez Akande between 1988 and 1993. The source of the white heroine was identified as one Mr. Lee Andrew Edwards who was incarcerated for attempting to murder a federal agent while the agent was executing a search warrant on him.
