Oil slump: Bring down fuel price immediately, Fashola tells FG ON DECEMBER 7, 2014

Lagos—As the global oil prices slid further downward, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, asked the Federal Government to review downward the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS,  from N97 per litre in the country in tandem with the slump in world oil price. President Jonathan and Gov Babatubde Fashola of Lagos The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, had last Friday, on its website pegged the oil price at $66.27 per barrel.

Fashola who blasted FG for its reluctance to adjust the pump price of   PMS, made the remarks while addressing hundreds of youths at the  Lagos State and After School  Graduation Development Centre,  AGDC, IGNITE Employability Project 5, Ikeja. He lamented that Nigerians were not receiving fair treatment from the central government like others in oil producing nation.

Fashola said, “Now we should be enjoying cheap fuel if the price of oil has dropped globally. Even as we import the product, a major component has reduced in price and while this has reduced, the pump price of fuel in the country still remains the same. “Then something is wrong. If the price increases in the country when the price of oil goes up globally, then it should also reduce when the price of oil drops. “I understand that I am not an economist; they (Federal Government) are the economists. But I have some logic and common sense to ask critical questions. For instance, if one buy flour at N10 per kilogram, and the bread was sold at N1 per loaf. If the price of flour drops, the price of the bread should also change,” Fashola added.

The governor, therefore, urged President Goodluck Jonathan led administration to follow the footstep of other countries that have reduced the pump price of oil products for their citizens.

“All the goods that can be produced in Nigeria, Obi imports them in his supermarkets. That is consumption economics. That kind of person cannot tell you that he is moving you from consumption to production. He will then be committing self-economic suicide and Obi will not do that to himself”.

Some Nigerian blogs and newspapers falsely claimed that a US court acquitted Allen Onyema, the CEO of Air Peace, of all pending fraud charges in its ruling sentencing his conspirator on Friday.

October 31, 2022

Allen Onyema, the founder of Air Peace airline, is still wanted in the United States after his alleged conspirator in a $20 million bank fraud case was sentenced by an American court on Friday.

The US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, in Atlanta, on Friday, sentenced Ebony Mayfield, an American woman, to three years probation for her roles in helping to facilitate the alleged fraud.

There's are things I learnt about Nigeria after 2023 election.

1. Nigeria will NEVER be better again as a united entity.
This not sentiments but fact.
Whoever told me that some people will still choose a party and someone that was fully involved in Buhari 8 years of total nightmare just because of tribe I'll never believe it.
All he did was to tell them that it's his turn, no manifesto, no debate not even a proper campaign rather than an owambe in the name of campaign.

2. Some people will rather see Nigeria burn and suffer rather than seeing someone with a clear cut plan shape things back.

Trust me any person telling you to pray for Nigeria is nothing but a fraudster.
Just like we now see Buhari days as good old days a time will come when we'll see this present suffering as good old days.
Thank God nobody buys things cheaper because his tribesmen is in power or because he's a member of APC.
We'll all see wetin we do to ourselves in due time.

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said he is sure the candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, would lose the 2023 presidential election. Soludo said he would not submit to the bullying of Obi’s supporters, who recently descended on him for addressing issues in the state.

The governor made the comments in a lengthy write-up personally authored, with the title, “History Beckons, and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1).”

Soludo said Obi was inadvertently making the pathway to victory much easier for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and at the same time, toying with the destiny of millions of Ndigbo.

But the chief spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Yunusa Tanko, accused Soludo of being sponsored by some unknown persons to weaken the base of the party in the South-east.

The former CBN governor had been under intense attack for close to a week for dismissing Obi’s investment in the state as amounting to nothing, during a television interview.

Soludo said in the write-up, “My attention has been drawn to some of the tirades on social media following my frank response during an interview on Channels TV regarding the ‘investments’ Mr. Peter Obi claimed to have made with Anambra State revenues.

“Sadly, several of the comments left the issue of the interview to probe or suggest motives, inferred from my response on ‘investment’ that I am opposed to Peter Obi’s ambition and, therefore, committed a ‘crime’ for which the punishment is internecine abuse and harassment, even to my family.

“Everyone knows that I don’t follow the winds or one to succumb to bullies, or shy away from a good fight especially, when weighty matters of principles and future of the people are involved.”

Soludo said he had urged Obi to return to his former party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to actualise his presidential bid. He added that he had always told the LP candidate to his face that he was not capable of winning the 2023 presidential election, especially, under LP, which had neither a councillor nor a local government chairman.

Reallyhuh So you don't know government is solely responsible for Nigeria's current food shortage? You don't know many people left their farmland due to terrorism, banditry, northern herders and kidnappers. Which one has the government try to stop or even reduce. They have congress yet cannot make simple law to keep citizen safe.

What agricultural program/mechanized farming has government enthroned? Even to engage in price control through tax waiver for company like Indomie to bring down other stable food, nothing. Do you know if a bag of rice is 30k today, every other food will crash in prices. Does the government know that economics. Rice importation will make rice less than 40k. Government said no food import but import fuel. Yet you cast aspersion on poor Nigerians.
We don’t care about economics.
Is that not why Obasanjo endorsed Buhari over better performing Jonathan despite knowing that ThiefNuibu’s CPC expired leadership was clueless about economics?

Meanwhile, how will importing rice and other food items impact the dollar rate and foreign reserves as well as debt, unemployment and inflation plus crime huh

The long term key to this economic crisis is the drastic reduction in the total package of politicians, to reflect their comparative value added to the country relative to civil servants.

citizenisb:
“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.

The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.

While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.

“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”

How much was crude oil when Fashola was wailing for the reduction in petrol price? How much is it now?
What happened to Fashola's loud mouth since 2015 huh

anthonykezy:

Fashola noted that the oil sector of the country had not been improved to address challenges confronting the nation especially unemployment, saying “The economy is not doing well. Some of you (audience) are compelled to try to survive through whatever means.”

On how the oil sector would have addressed the unemployment challenges, he said. “If we are trying to build refinery with Dangote in Lekki Free Zone, LTZ, in Epe; and the construction alone would require 8, 000 workers. It means that they must get to work and back. So there is need for transportation service, there is need for food and other services during work and post construction. “So if we stop importing fuel, and start building refineries and doing other things right the economy will lift. If you build a gas grid for the country and rough estimate indicated that investing $5 billion, many businesses will began to get gas and some of the power installation can also convert to gas and others, there would be sudden positive effect on the country’s economy.”

499 naira per liter would be more soothing to the ears
Compared to the APC promise in 2015 for change, when petrol was N87, is that not a failure F9?

AKPOSbaba:
FORMER Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof. Tamunoemi David-West, said that Nigerians should expect sharp drop in petrol price from the current N87 to about N40 per litre, saying, “the president-elect, Gen. Mohammed Buhari, will reduce the fuel pump price to N40 per litre.”

In a telephone interview with Vanguard, the former minister argued that Nigeria produces millions of barrels of crude oil daily, and if properly harnessed will boost the performance of the industry.

His words: “I want to assure you that by the time he takes over, petrol will be dispensed at N40 per litre. This is possible and he has the credibility to make it work.

The major assignment of the president-elect when he is eventually inaugurated is to restore confidence to the industry.

He noted that the president-elect is familiar with the petroleum industry, adding that he is a straight forward person that has respect for democratic principles.

“As military head of state, he dealt with the Federal Executive Council with the tenets of democracy. Buhari will build new refineries to make petroleum products available for the masses. No responsible government will allow the masses to suffer.

The news of crashing don dey turn to suspense
Is that not the story of A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC since 2015?
From ThiefNuibu packaging Abacha's lootocratic comrade as the all-knowing and all-doing messiah to change our country and fight corruption while dealing with terrorists, to their 2019 next level of suffering to Emilokan turn of shege promax.
Promised change became change of promise, just as renewed hope has revealed itself to be renewed hopelessness of ebiNpawa enikanlomo.

Court approves withdrawal of ‘illegal possession of firearm’ charge against Emefiele

A federal high court in Lagos has approved the withdrawal of the illegal possession of firearm charge filed against Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

On July 25, Emefiele was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million.

Nicholas Oweibo, the judge, had ordered that Emefiele be kept in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

But the DSS insisted that Emefiele must return to its custody — a development that led to the face-off between the secret police and prison officials.

After the face-off, DSS rearrested Emefiele on the court premises.

On August 3, the federal government filed an application seeking leave to appeal against the order granting bail to Emefiele.

However, on August 15, the federal government made an oral application to withdraw the charge of “illegal possession of firearms” against Emefiele.

Fantastically corrupt entrapment called Nigeria.

How can you be a serving Governor of a whole central bank and still vying to become the president of the same country without resigning from your role as CBN Governor.

This Emeffy suppose die by firing squad.
Instead of opening up your 32 as you face your firing squad, why don’t you just quote the law that says the CBN governor should resign to contest the election for president huh

If after all this noise and Emefiele is not jailed without option of fine then Tinubu and Emefiele might just be working together to cause distraction away from his governance
