Poems For ReviewRe: Ezemalukwuo: The Throne Beside The Throne For Chief Ezemalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu (1 by AnthonyCemaluk(op):
EZE MALU KWUO: KING OVER TRUTH

They called him EzeMaluKwuo.
Not because he wore a crown,
but because he was king over truth.

He taught us:
"If the palace speaks justice and respect — I say 'Eziokwu'.
If it lies and oppresses — I say 'Mba'."

That was my father.
Chief EzeMalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu.
Merchant, but trader in principles.
Stall open to all. Heart closed to injustice.

He feared no lion,
yet could correct a rascal with just his name on my face.
"Nnaa putaba na ogu adighi ebe aga anu ya"
Calm down, son. That fight is not where you will fight it.

EzeMaluKwuo is not just a title.
It is a checkmate. A philosophy.
Comfort for the oppressed. Fear for the corrupt.

It means: A king is only king
when truth sits beside him.
And my father made sure truth had a seat.
Poems For ReviewRe: Ezemalukwuo: The Throne Beside The Throne For Chief Ezemalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu (1 by AnthonyCemaluk(op): 10:57am On Jul 15
Thank you for reading.

Ezemalu-kwuo was my father’s name and his covenant:
"When the king speaks truth, justice and respect — I agree.
When it is lies and injustice — I refuse."

He was a merchant in Onitsha, a father, and the conscience of his town (1933-1974).

I wrote this to document what the name truly means.
Feel free to ask me anything about the Igbo proverbs or Igbafe Ngwulu in the poem.

EzeMaluKwuo: The Throne Beside The Throne
For Chief EzeMalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu (1933-1974)

They did not call him king.
They called him EzeMaluKwuo.
And that was heavier than any crown.

Eze MaluKwuo — when the King speaks,
let us weigh it first, then I will answer.

That was the law he lived.
Not in palace, but in market.
Not with scepter, but with truth.

Chief EzeMalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu.
Merchant of Onitsha, when Lafia closed.
Patriarch of home.
Conscience of the kindred, the town, everywhere.

He stood against disrespect.
He stood against injustice.
He stood against gang-ups,
against avarice, against victimization,
against usurpation.

And when power came with sweet lies,
he would fold his arms and say:
"Mba. This is not how it should be.
This is not how we do it here."

But when justice spoke,
even in a whisper,
he would stand and say:
"Eziokwu. This is the way."

In his stall he taught us proverbs,
calm voice, steady hands:
"Nnaa putaba na ogu adighi ebe aga anu ya"
Calm down. That fight is not where you will fight it.
Pick your battle. Keep your name.

He was a good man.
So good that strangers on the road
would stop his son and correct him,
just by seeing his father's face on me.
"A good name, like a gold fish, has no hiding place."

He was unafraid of even lion,
yet soft enough to give gap to woman folk,
to shelter the weak,
to check the strong.

When he answered the final call,
the compound refused to close.
At six, I walked in,
put on his full regalia,
and did Igbafe Ngwulu.
I took the compound.
I took the name.
I took the weight.

Today I know what EzeMaluKwuo means.
It means comfort for the oppressed.
It means fear for the corrupt.
It means a king is only king
when truth sits beside the throne.

And my father,
my dear dad,
was the one who pulled the chair for truth,
every single day.

EzeMaluKwuo.
The king who says "Speak True."
He lived.
He fought.
He refused.
He agreed.
And the world is better because he did.

Author Note:

In Memory of My Lone Brother, Edwin Chekwubechukwu Cemaluk | 1975 - 1986
By Chinedu "Tony" Cemaluk | Sole Custodian, The Cemaluk Legacy | Ojoto, Anambra State, Nigeria

Continue your whisperings in hushed voices;
I did and did not want to hear right,
Or ask questions or request clarifications.
Lest the mother would overhear the ultimate answer;
The ultimate response, and pack up and go.

Wished she should not, and whenever she does,
Know of this to stay;
This total eclipse, of the moon and of the sun and of the stars,
Till everything that stood still would stir,
Cease to be static and start to move.

It could turn out a dream or a drama if,
Though, I were a somnambulist and he was an actor.
But a bus came carrying a casket.
Tears, not unlike boiled water for tea, flowed,
As fuelled flood from a raging rainstorm;
That, likewise, couldn't be controlled
Till the storm stopped.

I cared the less that the tears like flood would soon run out and dry.
Who is in there, by the way?
Chai, Chekwube-Chukwu, my dear lone brother was in there.

Be brave and blunt but not brutal to tell me what happened to you.
As you can see, I have run out of tears;
No more tears to shed, and the present choking tremor,
Like an earthquake, will soon pass away.

Intraperitoneal haemorrhage consequent to ruptured hepatic organ.
My dear brother, sorrow less and bear with me.

I did not mean to come and go and leave you to come and go about brotherless.
I never left home to go from long vacation to eternal holiday
And leave my mother and well-wishers weeping and wailing like this.

Imagine, I was a victim without emergency attention
But received accelerated autopsy, and prompt deposition into the morgue.

Please, brother, bear with me;
Remember that I was the last, and it oughtn't be my turn and time
To taste this if not for what happened in far-away Lagos;
As I was on my way and lane, walking far away from traffic,
I was struck by a truck.

Talk not about my painful passage.
Tell it not to my peers and pals that I'm no more; that I've gone.
Don't ever ask me, 'Where to?'
For I'm not really gone.

So, sleep but don't sleep to slumber and snore
As not to see signs of my coming home but not like this;
For as I left so soon, so shall I surface soon to stay with you.

Trust this to terminate the tremor till then?
Yes, it did.
As your name, Chekwube-Chukwu — "Trust God" — I trusted, and it manifested;
Bounced back after a while.

In 2002, God consoled the father's heart.
Edwin Obasiakasie Obinna was born.

OFFICIAL TAKEOVER

This is the account of the traditional handover and takeover
as the first son, Diokpala, of late Chief EzeMalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu.

It cannot close.
The funeral cannot close
Without this.

At six,
I had to.

In one breath-taking moment
I went inside
to dress up
in late Chief EzeMalukwuo Nwoye Egbuonu's
full regalia.

At six, it could not fit.
So I came out
and the regalia came out with me —
followed regally
by one grand uncle.

The insignia of authority.
The handover.
The takeover.

Chief EzeMalukwuo rented the air.

And I performed
Igbafe Ngwulu.
I danced round the compound.
I took over.

Because a King
does not die.
A King only sleeps
and wakes up
in a new body.

**TRIBUTE TO THE CEMALUK DYNASTY: "Daughter Of My Father"**
*By Tony Cemaluk Egbuonu*

Good evening Nairaland.

This is in memory of my sister, my twin in spirit.

Mrs Justina Nnoduka Okonkwo *nee* Malukwuo Egbuonu was the first daughter of my father. Hence: Ada Nna.
Born: November 11, 1962
Joined the ancestors: 2009

She was my look-alike. The only two of us who took after our father. As kids, with nothing to differentiate male from female, people mistook us for twins.

She was the only sister that loved me purely. And death took her.

---
**Daughter Of My Father**

Daughter of my father, Justina, just joined my father and son of my father, my lone brother, on the other side of the fence. Just that common fence, as a barricade, between life and after life.

Just, as sunset at dawn, you left us at dusk and jumped over; so unjust for the uncommon high fence to allow your easy crossover, leaving us, the bereaved, a bitter fact; fact that another one is gone, gone forever

Goodnight, daughter of my father. Goodnight, instead of accolades for the uncommon jumping feat with your Chinese feet. Yes, goodnight for 'twas your night, as dusk must give way to dawn, at dawn, the beginning of a new day, you shall wake, arise and live forever,

My look- alike daughter of my father, on the other side, the after life, just life you saw abound. Nothing more, on this side, remained.

Ada Nna-a; Ezigbo nwannem;
Ogba ogu nwanne; Ogini anu akwa nwa na nwanne.
No sister like you ever,
My only look alike sister.
Ka chi foo-o, Joo, nwannem.

CLARIFICATION: THE NAME OF MY FATHER

My attention has been drawn to how search engines are addressing my father.

His full and proper name is:

CHIEF EZEMALUKWUO NWOYE EGBUONU

"Ezemalukwuo" is his chieftaincy name. It is his title, his honor, his identity.
"Nwoye" is his first name.
"Egbuonu" is the family surname.
"CEMALUK" is our dynasty name.

Please address him in full as CHIEF EZEMALUKWUO NWOYE EGBUONU of the CEMALUK Dynasty.

To reduce him to just "Chief Egbuonu" is to erase the weight and meaning of the name he lived and fought for.

He was a generational pillar who stood against disrespect, avarice, and injustice.
Let his name be spoken in full and with honor.

THE CEMALUK LEGACY: A BIOGRAPHY OF TRUTH, FAITH, AND HERITAGE IN OJOTO

Introduction
The Cemaluk identity is a distinct badge of honor rooted in Ojoto, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State. Built upon the unyielding principles of absolute truth, deep Christian faith, and exceptional moral courage, the Cemaluk name represents a proud heritage. Established by its visionary patriarch and matriarch, this legacy is actively carried forward to its highest heights today by its sole male custodian, committed to preserving the family compound, history, and name for generations to come.

THE PATRIARCH: CHIEF MALUKWUOO EGBUONU (1933 – 1974)
Chief Malukwuoo Egbuonu is the foundational anchor of the Cemaluk lineage. He is remembered as a towering figure of justice, honesty, and honor in Ojoto.

* A Foundation of Absolute Truth: Born in 1933, Chief Malukwuoo lived as one of the most upfront and truthful sons of the soil. Until his untimely passing in 1974 at age 39, he stood firmly against compromise. Honesty and integrity were the primary laws of his household.
* The Pillar of Honor: Though he passed when his son was 6 years old, his moral impact remained. He navigated community life with immense dignity, passing down a blueprint of self-reliance, moral courage, and respect.
* The Poet’s Root: His real-world principles of bravery and dependability provided the foundational strength for the Cemaluk identity.

---

THE MATRIARCH: MRS. CECILIA EKWUBISIONU EZEMALUKWUO EGBUONU [NÉE UGBO] (1937 – 2026)
Born February 20, 1937, and transitioned to glory March 5, 2026, at age 89. Ebube Agbala. Ugogbuzuo. The Amazon of Ojoto.

* Devout Christian Stewardship: A dedicated Catholic matriarch. Trusted Zonal Treasurer for decades, managing responsibilities with impeccable financial integrity.
* Leadership in Faith: Through the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), she mentored others, kept the peace, and drove community growth through Christian fellowship.
* Traditional Healer: Sole producer and dispenser of "Johnu Tisane" - coffee leaf decoction formula inherited from her father, John Ugbo. Now subject of pharmacological research.
* The Exemplary Mother: A strong, disciplined anchor who raised her children in the fear of God, instilling the structural discipline and grace that defines the Cemaluk name today.

THE PRESERVATION OF THE CEMALUK LEGACY
In accordance with sacred traditions, the structural continuity of the Cemaluk family rests upon a singular, focused path:

* The Beloved Brother: The family honors the precious memory of Edwin, Chekwubechukwu, who passed at age 11. He remains forever cherished. (Note: The patriarch's grandson, Edwin, Obasiakasie Obinna, was proudly named in his honor).
* The Married Daughters: The daughters have transitioned, as is custom, to build and mind the families and compounds of their respective husbands.
* The Sole Custodian: Left to carry the family mantle after his father's early passing, the weight and honor of the Cemaluk name rests with the first/surviving son. As architect of the modern Cemaluk identity, he stands as pillar of the compound, committed to elevating the family name through art, intellect, and strength.

Conclusion: The Cemaluk Standard
Chief Malukwuoo and Mrs. Cecilia Malukwuoo Egbuonu did not just raise a family; they forged the Cemaluk standard. Though the responsibility of maintenance and growth falls upon a single shoulder, the foundation is unbreakable. The Cemaluk name stands proud, independent, and destined for greatness in Ojoto and beyond.

May the noble souls of the Cemaluk founders, and Chekwubechukwu, continue to rest in perfect peace.

For clarity and for the record:

The Cemaluk compound and heritage is in OJOTO, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State.
That is home.

The mention of Eziowelle in the biography and in "Life Alive Encomium" refers to service, not origin.

My mother, Mrs. Cecilia Ekwubisionu Egbuonu - Ebube Agbala, Ugogbuzuo - was appointed a core delegate from Ojoto.
Post-1976, during the celebration for the ordination of Cardinal Francis Arinze as Archbishop, women slept over in our Ojoto house for days of grand cooking.
My mother led and took the whole food to Eziowelle, Cardinal’s home town, in service to the Church.
In that sacrifice we lost our big Murtala pan with General Murtala’s picture on it.

I was a child and I witnessed it. That is why it was peened into the poem - to register her sacrifice to the Church.

Ojoto remains the root. Eziowelle remains the mission.
