Hoping to tackle CV prejudice, major employers have agreed to hide candidate names on their application processes. UK employers are more likely to offer interviews to candidates with ‘white-sounding names’, according to The Financial Times (FT). Government research in 2009 found those with non-white names were less probable to be selected, despite their applications being identical. At his conference in Manchester, David Cameron promised to end this discrimination in the workplace. The Telegraph reported that during the keynote address, he said: "Do you know that in our country today, even if they have exactly the same qualifications, people with white-sounding names are nearly twice as likely to get call-backs for jobs than people with ethnic-sounding names?” He discussed the case of Jorden Berkeley who was a Black graduate aged 22 and rejected by several employers before being advised by a careers consultant to use her middle name. Cameron continued: "One young black girl had to change her name to Elizabeth before she got any calls to interviews. That, in 21st-century Britain, is disgraceful." Big employers that opted to go 'name-blind' play a significant role in the employment market as they employ approximately two million people in the UK. These include the NHS, HSBC, Deloitte, BBC, Teach First, Virgin Money, KPMG, learndirect and local government employers. Ucas, which is the system for those applying to university, is also said to enforce the 'name-blind' process in order to tackle the racial bias. Whilst most firms will use it for young people applying to graduate and apprenticeship roles, the civil service will also use it but for a wider range of positions, including those at senior levels. Cameron is now calling on other businesses to also embrace the ‘no name’ application process. The Times reported that the 'name-blind' applications will move to closing the gender pay gap and hopes to increase the female representation at board level. The FT stated that women’s hourly earnings are approximately 9% lower than men’s. The government’s recent plans to tackle discrimination will put pressure on employers to publish information on the average bonuses as well. According to The Mirror, Cameron commented on his speech. “I said in my conference speech that I want us to end discrimination and finish the fight for real equality in our country. “Today we are delivering on that commitment and extending opportunity to all.” |
DashMeYansh:This was exactly thesame mindset of PDP that made them lose a lifetime opportunity and the mess President Buhari is currently struggling to clean. If this is what you will seriously do for money now I'm convinced people from your side have still not been able to produce one single upright man to make Buhari's appointment list. |

Most of us fail to understand why anyone would want to engage in homosexual activity. To the average person, the very idea is either puzzling or repugnant. Indeed, a recent survey indicated that only 14% of men and 10% of women imagined that such behavior could hold any "possibility of enjoyment." The peculiar nature of homosexual desire has led some people to conclude that this urge must be innate: that a certain number of people are "born that way," that sexual preferences cannot be changed or even ended. What does the best research really indicate? Are homosexual proclivities natural or irresistible? At least three answers seem possible. The first, the answer of tradition, is as follows: homosexual behavior is a bad habit that people fall into because they are sexually permissive and experimental. This view holds rat homosexuals choose their lifestyle as the result of self-indulgence and an unwillingness to play by society rules. The second position is held by a number of psychoanalysts (e.g., Bieber, Socarides). According to them, homosexual behavior is a mental illness, symptomatic of arrested development. They believe that homosexuals have unnatural or perverse desires as a consequence of poor familial relations in childhood or some other trauma. The third view is "biological" and holds that such desires are genetic or hormonal in origin, and that there is no choice involved and no "childhood trauma" necessary. I would like to hear people's views on Why Men Turn Gay and Women Turn Lesbian. |
Finally the D-day has come. Now is the moment. Right now is the moment. We would like to hear what is currently going on at your polling unit perhaps your area. Share the updates. GOD BLESS NIGERIA |
Predicting the outcome of an election has never been this difficult. The reason is not too complex though: this is the first time since 1999 that the opposition party has gathered enormous momentum going into an election. What’s more: there seems to be a blossoming coalition between Muhammadu Buhari and the south. All you need do is look at the crowds and supporters at his rallies in the south, compared to the years gone by. However, no one dare rules out an incumbent president in a developing country, so President Goodluck Jonathan should not be considered down and out. But he has had a lot of negative publicity in his first term — which puts him at a disadvantage, at least with many people. The election is a referendum on his government, not on Buhari’s regime of three decades ago. There are good reasons for Buhari to be hopeful that he would win. And there are good reasons for Jonathan to believe that he too would win. On the other hand, it is very difficult if not impossible to unseat an incubent president. Jonathan has given himself 6weeks to re-strategise. Jonathan will never lose this election. This is évident from the way Fayose and Patience Jonathan are both unruffled by the massive movement from APC supporters. March 28 election might turn out to be draw as parties settle for interim government. |

It is fast becoming a norm in Nigeria to find LED TVs in Nigerian homes with the tags covering almost half of the screen. Nigerians over the years have been known to be popular in the Tokunbo electronics market while some have even taken a great risk of parting with their money to buy non-tested electronics which often come at a cheaper price than the Tokunbo. In the recent times, many Nigerians have witnessed impressive standard of living boosted by cheaper prices for brand new electronics and higher salaries which has ensured that more and more Nigerians are embracing purchase of brand new electronics. However, in the light of these recent developments many Nigerians are still guilty of not removing tags on their LED TVs.Could this be the intention of the manufacturers for how to use LED TVs?

Martin Onovo the presidential aspirant for NCP is leading the presidential debate as he touches issues with so much dexterity and practicable approach. His passion reminds you of Governor Fashola during the last Lagos State Gubernatorial election held in 2011. Martin Onovo is worth knowing at this last minute. Presidential candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in the last general elections, Engr. Martin Onovo (MNSE) is one of the most brilliant professionals in Nigeria. He is the head of movement for the Movement for Fundamental Change and many of his followers describe him as a simple, calm and calculative man. He is also one of the very few whose opinion is worth gold in the country. Though, engineers are very conservative when it comes to fashion and are rarely counted amongst ‘fashionistas’, Onovo has an attractive style of his own. His style shows he is always in his comfort zone. While presenting him to the party, Chairman, NCP, Dr. Yunusa Tanko said experience of the ordinary people since May 1999 when the conventional politicians took over the reign of power from the military has shown that nothing fundamental has changed. According to him, governance has continued to be for the interest of politicians as opposed to the wellbeing of the people. “Our people fought against military dictatorship not because they hated the military uniform but because they strove to enjoy political freedom and economic comfort, unfortunately, they have not enjoyed either”, he said. Yinusa explained that the NCP believes that governance means being with the people, knowing their pains, abolishing their poverty and solving their problems. “The NCP will practically demonstrate how governance should be for the people hence our slogan include NCP for the people, NCP .. the caring party, NCP.. Abolition of poverty”, he said. According to Yinusa, the crisis of the Nigerian economy is rooted in the development strategy adopted by successive Nigerian government under the influence of powerful foreign countries and their international companies. “We are in a country where poverty is meant to be an alien, but has been bedeviled with humanly imposed poverty. A country where averagely 70% of its citizenry are living below the standard poverty line is facing an emergency situation. “The NCP if given the opportunity by the voters will go on an aggressive employment drive through training and retraining of our citizens making sure that our youths are employable. He said it is a well-known fact that agriculture has not been given its rightful place considering the vast arable land we are graciously blessed by God.

The recent news flying around Nigeria that the Federal government has slashed the Electricity tariff by 50% is a political strategy which is an outright false. Nigerian power sector has been fully privatised and all the new power companies(Gencos,Discos and transmission company) are currently racking their heads on how to make the best out of their on-going investment in the power sector. For clarification, some few years ago, the Nigerian Telecommunication was privatised making room for emergence of new telecom companies in Nigeria. Up till date, Federal government has never been involved in fixing of rates for the telecom companies. Telecom companies have been enjoying the autonomy of fixing rates per second, per minutes, data billings on different devices all by themselves without the involvement of the government. If telecom sector can enjoy autonomy in fixing rates without government involvement, Power sector is no exemption under privatisation. If ever someone is going to announce any new development in the power sector, it is going to be NERC but not the Federal government. 50% slash on tariff in the Power sector is a political electioneering fallacy. |
In this recent fight for power that will land the winning team to the Aso Rock come March 28 tentatively, many Nigerians seem to have taken on a side ahead the election. The APC preaches fight against corruption giving 1million reasons why PDP is Corrupt. PDP has given many reasons why APC as a party is built on corruption highlighting the deeds of Tinubu and how Fashola has connived with him to allow mass corruption in Lagos. Meanwhile on the other hand, Buhari has vowed to fight corruption once he wins insisting that PDP is out-rightly corrupt. Despite all the claims of corruption from these 2 parties, hundreds of PDP members are joining APC everyday while hundreds of APC members are also moving to join PDP everyday. None of these parties have been reported to reject any new member notwithstanding how corrupt the part they are coming from. Just before you hit the streets come March 28, do you really know the difference between APC and PDP, Is any of these parties free from corruption. |
More than 72 hours after it was reported that Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, had a closed-door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, the APC chieftain has revealed what he discussed with Mr President. In an interview with Sahara Reporters, the one time governor of Adamawa state said that he had retired to bed when he was woken up and told that President Jonathan had come to see him. According to Atiku, Mr President was already waiting in his living room when he was informed of his presence. While disclosing what transpired during the meeting, Atiku opined that President Jonathan tried to prevail on him to rejoin the PDP which he rejected. He said the president also discussed the ongoing war against Boko Haram, seeking his support for Nigerian troops.Atiku said they also discussed the possibility of displaced Nigerians returning to the areas that have been recaptured from Boko Haram. On whether President Jonathan was interested in allowing elections to hold on March 28, the former vice president hesitated before stating that he would not wish to speculate, but he said the president’s body language did not reveal that he was interested in the polls, which are less than two weeks to hold. The former vice president stated that he advised President Jonathan to ensure that the elections were free and fair and devoid of the bloodshed that trailed the 2011 general elections. Atiku said he had always been opposed to an interim government adding that he did so when the former military President Ibrahim Babangida set up an interim national government in 1993. He said he was offered a position in the government through the late Gen. Shehu Yar’Adua, which he rejected. The position, he said was given to Lagos politician Dapo Sarumi. This development comes after about 120 groups loyal to Atiku were reported to have decamped to the PDP.According to reports, the decampees were received by Uche Secondius, the deputy national chairman of the PDP. It was disclosed that a reception to welcome them to the camp of President Goodluck Jonathan was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja. Rumours emerged last week that Atiku, who had previously dumped the PDP for the APC, was under pressure to return to the ruling party. He denied the rumours and reinstated his commitment to the opposition party. |
During the town hall meeting held earlier today, the ruling party members had given several reasons for Jega to resign ahead the March 28th election giving multiple reasons why the proposed card reader will fail Nigerians in the forthcoming election. Jega, however remained optimistic that a good number of PVCs had already been distributed and made it clear that come what may, he would not resign and has no reason whatsoever to resign now. Jonathan strongly believes if Jega remains till March 28th, he may never win the election. Meanwhile, an anti Jega protest was earlier held in Lagos today. |

Trust me a particular tribe has always been taking the lead in this scam attacks..I have modified the post anyways to avoid cyber-tribal fight here. |
Nigerian OLX will soon become history as 80 percent of posts on this business website are scams while you only have 20% to battle with. Goods are posted with ridiculous prices luring victims to strike deals in locations like Apapa and Badagry under the pretence that these are seized goods and they are custom officers. To worsen the case, you cannot even comment on any post making it a one way business channel. What this means is that if someone dupes you on OLX or if you readily identify a scam post, you have no means to prevent others from not falling for thesame trick simply because there is obviously no way to add comments or previous experience for the public. OLX however gives users opportunity to report a post as scam but the limitation to this is that, OLX will only remove a scam post only if it has been flagged 3times. With the current huigh number of scam posts on OLX, it is going to be a fulltime job to be able to flag every scam post on OLX 3times each. Perhaps one would wonder if OLX staff and management are paying attention to their business in Nigeria at all. Thesame scammers that killed googletrader Nigeria are again on a mission to chase OLX out of the Nigerian cyber market.Already OLX is currently experiencing drastic fall in traffic on their Nigerian sites. We hope they get to do something about this great platform. |
