Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State will not leave Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after winning a second term in last Saturday’s governorship election on the party’s platform.

He said “It is impossible,” but that “assuming it happens, so what? That is politics. There is nothing wrong if the governor (Obaseki) believes that PDP is no longer the party for him to actualise his vision and mission.

“But he (Obaseki) has consistently told us that there’s no way he will leave PDP. If he does, for example, the people of Edo State will not be happy and he is somebody I have that trust in.

On the other hand, he noted, “PDP has been PDP since 1999 and not made up of different parties,” adding that protection is why politicians are jumping from one party to the other.

Governor Wike, who was Chairman of the party’s campaign council for the Edo election, spoke in a Channels TV’s Friday morning live interview.

Asked what role he played in the Edo election, Wike said he did nothing special and that the victory was a collective effort, giving “kudos the governors of Oyo and Delta states” who “contributed immensely to the success of the governor of Edo State.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to issue directives to suspend implementation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020.
Rev. Samson Ayokunle, CAN President, made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

Recall that the National Assembly passed the CAMA bill earlier this year and the president signed it into law on Aug. 7.

Ayokunle said that comments in public domain were beginning to indicate that the Act was capable of further undermining the faith of stakeholders in the Nigerian state.

The CAN president, represented by, Rev. William Okoye, General Overseer, All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM), said that the association had not been availed with the authentic version of the Act.
”We consider the Act a complex of statecraft compendium, laden with issues inimical to peace and stability and overall wellbeing of the country.

”From the reactions of stakeholders and a cross-section of the people it is apparent the Act either did not receive input from various interest groups or failed to accommodate their views.

The fresh row over the Bayelsa election is taking a new turn as Duoye Diri has filed an appeal against the controversial verdict of the election tribunal which sacked him as governor of the state.

Legit.ng recalls that the election of the governor was nullified by the Bayelsa governorship election petitions tribunal on Monday, August 17, alongside his deputy.

The judgement was delivered by a three-man panel presided by Justice Ibrahim Sirajo following a petition filed against the governor and his party by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP).
The panel nullified the process on the grounds that the ANDP was unlawfully excluded from participating in the November 16, 2019 governorship election having been duly registered.


The tribunal said it found merit in the petition and consequently nullified the election and also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election in the state within 90 days.

In a reaction, Governor Diri on Tuesday, August 18, said he has filed a notice of appeal containing 11 grounds.

Speaking through his counsel Chris Uche, the embattled governor said the tribunal erred in law when it held that ANDP’s petition was not statute-barred.

The presidential panel probing Mallam Ibrahim Magu, suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has recommended his sack and prosecution for alleged corruption.
According to an online publication, TheCable, in its exclusive report, the panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami, retired president of the Court of Appeal submitted an interim report to President Muhammadu Buhari last Wednesday where the panel also recommended that Magu should be prosecuted over allegations of corruption and abuse of office.

The suspended EFCC boss is also accused of violating the code of conduct law by allegedly failing to declare all his assets when he assumed office in 2015. It was gathered that the panel also recommended the appointment of a new chairman for the anti-graft agency “without further delay”.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in a letter dated July 3, 2020, had directed the panel to submit its “interim reports to me from time to time”.

There's been so much talk concerning a Tinubu

of her father and the attack on her during the

How did you receive the news of your dad’s
death?
I spoke to him a day before he died and there
was no sign. He had back pain; though it was
nothing to worry about due to the way he
sounded that day. He sounded well than that in
the past, but that particular day I asked ‘Daddy,
are you okay’? He responded that he was fine
and I can deduce happiness in his voice. I just
took it for granted that Daddy will be here for
many years. He summoned his children and told
us many things that happened… and the moment
he sees that you are in panic mood, he will just
say that ‘Ko ti ya nisiyii.’ (It is not time for me to
die). He lived a worthy life. I am so happy for
the legacy he left behind.
