Out of the 7,287 candidates invited by the University of Ibadan (UI) for the 2012 post Unified Tertiary Education Matriculation Examination (UTME), only 2,506 candidates passed, about 34.4 per cent . There were 163 absentees.

The officials of Edo State Veterinary Services have reported the circulation of tuberculosis infested beef. Dr Charles Aibaogun the Director of Veterinary Services gave the warning at the weekend in Benin. He said the infested beef is being sold in markets by traders who brought them from unapproved slaughter houses across the state.

He said some of the infested organs were discovered in the course of meat inspection in an abattoir in Benin City.

The management of Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas(NLNG) has kick started the 2012/13 Edition of its annual Scholarship.The Nigeria LNG Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme started in 1998 as part of Nigeria LNG Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility to Nigerian Citizens to enhance human capacity development. It involves the payment of a yearly Scholarship allowance to beneficiary Undergraduates in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria. Beneficiaries are selected through a rigorous and transparent selection process organized in collaboration with the Aptitude Test Department of WAEC. From inception, about 2,500 beneficiaries have benefited from the scheme.

Also, the award has undergone several value reviews from N30, 000.00 at inception to N50, 000.00 and then to its present value of N 100,000.00. A total of about 500 million naira has been spent so far on the scheme. In their bid to end the ceaseless attacks being unleashed on some parts of the country by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, security chiefs have prepared a list of the sect’s backers. The list is said to contain names of suspected backers of the sect and other terror groups.

A security source told our correspondent on Friday that the list was compiled by top security chiefs at a meeting held to strategise on how to end the spiralling violence.

The official said the decision to compile the list was born out of the belief of the security chiefs that the anti-terrorism battle could be won sooner than expected if people linked with violence were exposed.

The security chiefs were said to have worked on the intelligence report that some top politicians had been giving financial backing to terror groups with the aim of destabilising the present administration.

The official said the security officials had resolved to formally inform the office of the National Security Adviser about the alleged involvement of such politicians supporting terror groups.

Apparently supporting the claims of the NSA, Gen. Owoye Azazi, that some undemocratic practices within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the build-up to the 2011 general elections fuelled the violence, they heaped the blame on those they called greedy politicians.
