As I have said my own too. People can make up there minds. No logical reason has been given for adding arabic as a new language to be studied for a Nigerian student growing up in this country. Simple questions to ask

1. what is the criteria for choosing Arabic? We can understand french, Nigeria is surrounding by french speaking neighbors. Arabic is only useful for the muslim faithful, it has a religious colouration or tint to it. Why would any policy leader choose a religiously charged subject in a supposedly Neutral country like Nigeria. We know there are arabic christians and arab jews, we know non muslim speak it but we also know it is the lingua franca of the islamic world. And since the North is majority Muslim, it is meant to help them assimilate and understand the religion. why should one make that kind of a policy in a religiously charged country like Nigeria that is supposed to be Neutral. A policy that ony helps one religion but not the others. Why didn't they add hebrew or Greek too and make it wide ranging.

2. To also see the cynicism in the policy, they didn't add other languages like Spanish, Swahili, German or Cantonese/Mandarin. Only french and Arabic and they are saying it's for the good of the country.

They are subtly trying to islamise the country and they are hoping that once the population ever becomes about 70% or more Islamic they will implement Sharia Law and turn the whole country into the Islamic Republic of Nigeria, Like Pakistan or Indonesia. It will never happen. Folks should wake up and demand true federalism, if the North wants Sharia they can have it but it shouldn't pass their states.

That is the fastest way to get a break up. the Northern military leaders all knew this and that is why they never dared to do it. If they could do it without repercussions they would have done. When Babangida registered Nigeria at the Organisation of Islamic Countries(OIC), it was done subtly. And there are too many assumptions, I'm not pdp or Igbo. I'm also not for BIafra or whatever. But any moves to subtly islamise the country by making policies that will train youths and children in such a way as to propagate and enforce islam in a secular country will be firmly resisted.
