nah it doesn't really work that way for top artists, which is why it's like there lake never dry..most time producers will come up a with a dope beat with a chorus Idea penned down or recorded on it as a sample,then send or invite his/her artist of choice down to the studio to take over the vocal part.
note: I'm a producer as well.
