pheliciti: On your observations regarding Mobile money, It's always better to have a clear understanding before criticizing. Most of those items are possible in Kenya because the mobile money service there is led by telecommunication companies and not banks. The last administration in Nigeria restricted mobile money services to banks and forbade telcos from taking the lead role. Banks can't be at the forefront of ICT hence the slow growth. It has nothing to do with the looks of the Ministers, in fact it's even the current Minister that seems more interested in unravelling the mobile money conundrum.

ICT: Venture Garden Nigeria Gets U.S.$20 Million ICT Infrastructure Fund

Orange Invests $85 Million Into Africa Internet Group
Orange, A French telecommunications company, is poised to invest into Africa Internet Group a whopping sum of $85 million(75 million euros), a Nigerian ICT e-commerce group which automatically makes them a shareholder in the company as disclosed by both companies on Tuesday.
The e-commerce group (AIG), has as its shareholders-South African telecom giant MTN, Goldman Sachs and Germany’s Rocket Internet. The company founded in 2012 in Nigeria.
In a document released recently, MTN Executive, Amina Oyagbola, was quoted as saying: “In Nigeria, the revolution in the ICT sector has provided well over $32 billion in foreign direct investment over the last 15 years. As part of that ICT ecosystem and guided by our recognition of the boundless potential of our great nation within the digital economy, MTN has invested over $16 billion (over N3 trillion) to date in fixed assets and facilities nationwide to build the most expansive network in the country.”
Oyagbola said that Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) continues to attract foreign investments and unleash further world of opportunities for the economy.
After several successful investments in Nigeria in the previous year, EchoVC a company with exquisite seed and early stage technology has decided to invest $ 50 million in other start-ups in the country.
Technology giant EchoVC is targeting to inject $ 50 million in funds from entrepreneurs, angel investors, federal government, and business developers among other contributors. The firm main objective is to invest in the intersection of media, consumer, data technology, commerce, and mobile devices via networked knowledge and shared expertise. EchoVC targets equity related, early stage technology and equity investments in Nigeria before moving to greater pan-African region
Adebayo Shittu, the minister of communications, disclosed this at a two-day Nigerian communications sector retreat which ended over the weekend in Ibadan, Oyo state. He said: “I just led an industry delegation to China and after discussions with the investment community and unveiling investment potential in the Nigerian ICT industry, the Chinese investors have decided to come to Nigeria to invest about $15 billion into our ICT sector.
Pavore9: We are taking about mobile money network within a country and you are bragging about how Nigeria has become PayPal’s 3rd largest mobile e-commerce market with transactions of $819 million expected in 2016.....Money going out of the economy not coming in o and you think that is development?
Why is Paypal not allowing Nigerians to receive funds through their platform without some bothering themselves using VPNs?! Why won't the Naira loose value even to the "small Kenya's shilling" as one million Kenyan shillings which used to exchange for N1.9m now exchanges for N4.2m!
Look for those in the IT sector and ask them where it is easier to deploy.

I was expecting you to show us the documented facts, figures and links to back up your kenya sims with and not the same bait and switch irrelevant rubbish..
Never lie or post rubbish you can not back up with facts..
OBAGADAFFI: From your link. When a developer is accepted into Andela, he or she is relocated to the company’s offices in Lagos or Nairobi, and is trained in a specific technology stack. After six months, participants are then placed with tech company clients which have included Microsoft, IBM, the Muse, and Udacity.
It's a known fact that most of our developers don't work for indigenous companies. That's Brian drain for you.
That's why most of our technologies are not adopted locally.
Just looking at e-commerce, more than 90% of consumers prefer Pay on Delivery.
See how you just fall hand eve after reading the same link....
1. Andela was co founded by a Nigerian and not Kenyans (Andela, founded by Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Jeremy Johnson)
2. Andela is based in Nigeria and not Kenya even though they have an office in Kenya. (Andela, the Lagos-based company that trains and deploys software developers, is closing a $24 million Series B round—with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative )
3. Of what relevance is what you prefer or don't prefer meaningless argument when in fact Nigeria generate the largest e commerce transaction in Africa with larger $ volume than the entire GDP of many countries in Africa? What a lame argument
So, you read the link, but you still did not comprehend that Andela was founded by a Nigerian and not Kenyan
So, you read the link, but you still did not comprehend that Andela is based in Lagos and not Kenya
So, you read the link, but you still did not comprehend that that Zuckerberg's $24 million investment was given to Lagos based Andela founded by a Nigerian and not Kenyan.
So, you read the link, but you still did not comprehend that that Andela's branch office in kenya is just a branch office, but Andela is still a Nigerian company based in Lagos Nigeria, your own country?
With all the above and with a company founded by a Nigerian and your own countryman and the fact that Zuckerberg's first ICT dollar investment in Africa went to Nigeria, your own country and a company founded by a Nigerian, you still think Kenya is better than your own country?
You see how, shameful, shallow, unpatriotic and self hating you people are?
naijaking1: Why is Bunmi not the minister instead of that old, dirty, and nasty looking man, whatever his name
There is a difference between the minister of Communication and ICT which is an agency under the ministry of communications.
No, he should not be the minister of communications wasting his skill sets on other irrelevant communications issues, we need him to specifically head and focus on the ICT agency and use his skill sets to run and grow our ICT.
Contrary to what you might believe, mobile money isn’t new in Nigeria. In fact, Nigeria has had mobile money before Kenya’s M-Pesa launched in 2007. It’s been around since the early 2000s, way back when the telcos were gaining traction and ATM machines hadn’t proliferated all over the country.
And some joker was praising this as some form of Kenyan invention and ingenuity over Nigeria?
The fact that we saw no serious economic advantage in this and we have many other ways of financial transactions doesn't mean Kenya is doing anything better than us.
This is something we can easily dominate tomorrow is there's need for it.
Needs and demand dictates innovations and what people gravitate towards, not some imaginary ingenuity and innovations that we actually started in Nigeria before Kenya.
We still do more E-Commerce volume than Kenya and the rest of Africa so exactly what's the silly argument about some sim card nonsense in Kenya...
Online shopping in Africa has blossomed in recent times, riding on the back of improved broadband access. Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, is leading the way in e-commerce growth, with 65 percent of the country’s 50 million internet users having at one time or the other shopped online.
The results of the study confirm Nigeria as Africa’s leading e-commerce nation in the amount of potential and existing online shoppers, which is at 89 percent, compared to South Africa’s 70 percent and Kenya’s 60 percent.
Drivers of Growth
There are several key drivers that would encourage even more e-commerce in Nigeria. Out of the 500 adults involved in the survey, 53 percent of those who have shopped online in the past said faster delivery of goods would encourage them to shop online more often. 40 percent indicated that safer ways to pay was a key driver while 31 percent indicated lower product costs as a driver to do more shopping online.
lielbree: Instead of insulting people and showing your ignorance why not read the NDDC Act before saying rubbish? Yes NDDC gets money from federal accounts, however that money is 15% of allocations FROM MEMBER STATES! For instance the ports in Lagos are all federal but the revenue from these ports are not in anyway part of the NDDC funding.
Nigeria’s tech startups are in a race to fix a multibillion-dollar payments problem
In just two years, Nigeria has become PayPal’s 3rd largest mobile e-commerce market with transactions of $819 million expected in 2016.
Collectively, local payment start-ups are working to ensure that electronic payments are generally more successful. There’s plenty of reason to get this right for all involved as just last year the value of online and offline electronic payment transactions in Nigeria was pegged at $155 billion
In just two years since PayPal launched in Nigeria, it has seen the country rocket to its third largest mobile e-commerce market in the world with transactions of some $610 million in 2015 via a phone. PayPal says it’s on course to hit $819 million this year.
We are talking about $155 billion electronic transactions and some Kenya loving joker is talking about some Kenya village $30 million rubbish..
This is what you get when some self hating people hate their own country so much that they think insignificant and far behind countries are better than their own country...
kendrick9: Nice of you to check my post history.. i still insist/think buhari is the worst president i've seen in my lifetime..he's clueless, not one sector has improved since he took over. U can keep burying ur head in the sand but i guess thats not new since its obvious you are an Apc zombie
[/s]
I don't care what hate mongering and bitter anti Nigerian ipobs say about Nigeria and the president of Nigeria so you can kill yourself all I care.
Pavore9: That is not my first of you rather your first of me.
I will not thank you because you passed no knowledge as the thread is about the Ministers who has the ICT sector under their Ministry!
I repost my questions.
I did not ask for fact less opinion, I asked for documents facts and links to back up your views with about Kenya and your sim card business and how it makes them better than Nigeria in ICT.
Back up your argument with facts, not your own personal opinion.
OBAGADAFFI: Kenyan got better ICT startup system than Nigeria. Just visit our so called silicone valley in Yaba, you will never know something is going on except you're a developer.
The last pitch i attanted will show you how backward ICT INDUSTRY.
Everything here is copy and paste.
Our so called Mobil market is no generating any good income for developers.
Most of our banking FINTECH applications are from foreign developers.
Just check out JUMIA and KONGA operations for some months now, everything is dropping.

Andela, the Lagos-based company that trains and deploys software developers, is closing a $24 million Series B round—with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), founded by Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, leading the round.
How three students created Nigeria's online jobs giant
Three students had time on their hands in the summer of 2009 when their university lecturers in Nigeria went on strike. Instead of slacking off, Ayodeji Adewunmi, Olalekan Olude and Opeyemi Awoyemi started an online job search company.
Five years later their start-up, Jobberman, has got a multi-million dollar valuation, employs 125 people, and is still growing. While Nigeria is Africa's largest economy it still has massive unemployment problems, in particular among young people who are also more likely to be connected to the internet.
Jobberman has become the single largest job placement website in sub-Saharan Africa, helping over 35,000 people find jobs within the last two years. The number of companies using the site to find employees has grown from about 40 in 2009 to some 35,000 today
kendrick9: are u always this paranoid...i've never seen you make any meaningful comment on Nl.... Don't let hatred kill u oh
Why are you mad? Because I sank your hatred, bitterness and anger against Nigeria with facts?
If busting your lies and hatred for Nigeria with facts and education lost and ignorant ipobs is paranoia, then get used to is because I'll keep doing just that.
Pavore9: That is Adebaya Shittu, the Minister in charge of ICT.
1. The above is your first quote which was ignorance about Nigerian's ICT minister that I've already discredited and proven wrong with facts and links.
Bunmi Okunowo is the person in charge of Nigeria's ICT so thank me for that knowledge.
2. I still don't see any documented facts and evidence in your initial post so kindly cut and paste it here..

I posted this info on Omokri's twitter page and shame make am block me ASAP...
Pavore9: While awaiting your answers to my questions in the first page, Kenya is not even up to 25% of Nigeria in terms of population, so expectedly there are more phone users in Nigeria but the value of a sim card in Kenya out weighs that of a sim card in Nigeria because outside data, calls and sms, it serves as a means to receive and send transfers, get loans from banks through credit ratings of the telcos operating the mobile money networks.
A Kenyan bank, KCB has within 2 years given out loans of about N42bn through the sim cards, what is the value of the sim card in Nigeria?
Never believe or let hate mongers, bigger, angry and disgruntled unpatriotic people feed you wrong information of put Nigerian down because they are very ignorant shallow with serious low self esteem and inferiority complex..
