Jobs/VacanciesRe: 2013 Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Graduate Trainee by ArtistA: 7:44pm On Jun 10, 2016
Chai cheesy, NLNG, there is God oh! (In mama peace voice). After 3 years shocked . Congrats to those that made it. I don't have to spell it out, you'd love it there. [s]The only drawback is the boredom that comes with living on the RA full-time (if only there was a bridge connected to ph) and the fact that everybody knows everybody cheesy (my personal opinion tongue)[/s]. But who cares about boredom when money has to be made grin. The euphoria that comes with getting in will disappear in a couple of months, make the most of the opportunity to learn especially for the engineers. I hope they choose a better tech for the planned new trains instead of the C3-MR (water/Air cooled) replications on site. Either way, you'd learn a lot. You are amongst the priviledge few in this trying times.

In case you are wondering, them no call me o cry. I also wish those that didn't make it the best. Just like some said earlier, anything and everything is possible with God.

For the lady that asked between Shell and NLNG,.....with shell's recent acquisition of BG, the uncertainty with crude price, the urge in the industry to shift to renewables due to global CO2 concerns, etc even shell is not safe at the moment although they are now a stronger force to reckon with in the gas biz. They too are internationally shedding fat in the gym to be ready for summer cheesy. Every company has to make decisions best for its survival so I don't hold it against NLNG for dropping moi...Left to me, I would go with NLNG. I think job security is better guaranteed. I don't know what current challenges are(forkadict et al can shed more light). No info on pay but it should be more than deserving cheesy. (it's a graduate position cheesy). Cheers and congrats.

EducationRe: Why Do Engineering Students Brag To Know Maths More Dan Mathematics Students by ArtistA: 8:00pm On Jan 03, 2016
Very funny comments. How can an engineer claim to be versed in every aspect of mathematics than mathematicians? I doubt a mathematician can even lay claim to such as its a very big field. As a chemical engineer, I can't even say such about chemical engineering. What some fail to realize is that knowledge is complimentary and without application, it's almost irrelevant.

You don't expect me to have in depth knowledge of game theory as it doesn't help further my cause at the moment. So, mathematics for me has only been for application in my field of interest. How can you develop models for processes, design reactors, understand fluid dynamics, design controllers for process control or optimize processes without having a sound mathematics background for intelligent problem translation and solution? The complexity of some real life problems even requires you to start learning how to code all those mathematics cheesy because not everybody out there can understand your problem better than you. In the course of tasks, I even had to take applied statistics courses (multivariate data analysis, design of experiments, regression modelling and prediction, etc).

I think the ability to apply scientific knowledge (chemistry, biology, maths, physics ...) in various aspect of modern life will continue to stand out for engineers

Reading through, I realized most people don't know why that are in school in the first place.
PS: I think I'm good in areas of mathematics that concerns me cheesy

Nope. I wasn't asking if NLNG caters for its own staff. Technically u aren't a staff after Medicals until u are given an offer. I don't see how having a contract with a certain charter airline etc. is relevant, but that surely means reimbursing isn't an issue with them.
I asked because if I was invited, I would be coming from Asia and back after the Medicals and would be nice to know I would be reimbursed. If that fails, at least I contributed in keeping the thread alive tongue
Question remains valid. The only thing that beats an n-1 stage is the final product

I think I have to book my flight soonest before price sky-rockets.

@Nicer, thanks for your contributions. I just have one question. Do you have any idea how long the exercise for the day will last?... i.e 7:00 am till ??..... I need to know because I intend on booking my return journey for the same day as my assessment date. (I should be at the airport by 9:00pm). Assessment is in Lagos.

Thanks.

I also await your info on reimbursement as you promised cheesy

Foreign AffairsRe: Massacre Of 147 people In Kenya: Face Behind The Attack by ArtistA: 7:49pm On Apr 04, 2015
I rarely post on this forum but I just couldn't bear it after seeing pictures of the recent carnage carried out by some adherent of the religion of peace.

The double standard exhibited by adherents of this religion (Islam) really infuriates me. You hear them say;..."these guys are not true muslims", ..."their acts are not obtained in the koran" etc. They find every excuse to deny the modern day reality of their religion instead of looking for ways to tackle the menace so we all can live in peace. You harldly see them come out en masse to protest against such killings. You don't see their renowned imams the world over especially in the middle east condemning these brutal killings...All your hear is hushed verbal remarks from a few saying as usual..."they are not true muslims"! angry.

If they are not true muslims then who is?....What constitutes a true muslim?

What are the over 1 billion "true muslims" doing about these "few" that is tarnishing the reputation of your religion of peace? Or do you cheer within your hearts when you read of these violence while pretending in the open?...It's really disgusting I must say. undecided

It's easier to go haywire and kill people that have a different opinion about your prophet Muhammed but we have lots of adherent of this same religion bearing your prophet's name "Muhammed" and committing all sort of atrocities. You see lots of Mohammed behading, maiming etc. But the true muslims do nothing about these followers who defame their prophets name by their acts. They even say "alahu akbar" whenever they carry out evil yet their brethren will tell you...."they are not true muslims"

The sooner muslims in general wake up and start doing something meaningful about the cancer on ground, the better. Enough of this mute "they are not true muslims" remark. Because you all read from the same book.

TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by ArtistA: 6:22am On Nov 07, 2014
snowburn:
I dunno where to start from, cos the matter no be here smiley Congrats on the new job and the visa as well. Forget about your love for Nigeria (you no love Naija reach me wallahi smiley) There are lots of Job prospects here in Australia, especially O/G (i mean right now till say maybe end of 2016).
Searching online is good, it works but Australia too like agents and agencies, so if you come down here in Perth and have a chat with an Agency like Bechtel or Hays, you most likely get a job faster than someone applying to the companies directly. I say this from my own experience and general observation. You can send these agencies apps online but trust me, if you go over and meet them in their office, there's a difference. (Australia man know man strong pass Naija own ooo smiley na just say them dey do their own with class, with style, codedly)
I support your idea of securing an offer before travelling for some reasons; especially if the Naija offer you just got is in O/G preferably a MNC.
But if you choose to travel, head straight to Perth or Queensland cos the major O/G projects are in full swing now. Of course there's Darwin too, huge projects but i dont wanna go into that here.

Either way, whether trying from here or abroad, its achievable but there some factors common to both that will determine if and how fast you'll get an offer.

1. Permanent Residency grin i'm sure this is an easy guess. Australian employers (most especially in O/G) know that the locals come first before any other type of visa. Of course we believe in miracles so a company could take you and sponsor but what are the chances? undecided yeah those slim chances could be your portion, i dunno.

2. Qualification/ Experience: you may be surprised to hear this but in Oz, THE TRADES RULE. The truck drivers, electricians, offsiders, etc. they make big money(talk about 100k - 150k per annum just for an apprentice;depending on the company sha, think of how much you'll make as an experienced mechanical fitter, or crane operator, etc cheesy)These guys make big money even more than Professionals and the Trade Union is Strong (always there to protect their interests) and those roles are the easiest way to get in into the industry but you need to have Local licences, registrations, permits and qualifications. Most roles require just a Cert II, Cert III, maximum of Cert IV.
They dont care much about your Diploma,BSc, MSC...only for some (very few number) positions and of course considerable experience has to go with it. The easiest way to get in with this high qualifications is through graduate programs that come annually (fair enough, cos a tradie cant apply for that grin) Or better still man know man.
Recently, i think in June, WA passed a law that only PR and Citizens can procure the Maritime Card which you require to work offshore in Western Australian waters. I'm sure you know what that means.

In fact sometimes they threaten people from the east coast grin
If you dont have local experience, FIFO experience, the slimmer your chance gets, technically speaking.
If you can get an internship, that'd be fantastic.

There are some pros and cons( a lot of talking points) of being on ground or trying from abroad that time wont permit me to go into here.
Good luck.
Thanks Snowburn for your reply. Just to point out, I'm yet to secure the Nig job but I welcome your compliment in advance. Believe me, I can relate to what you've typed. My location on seek has been Perth by default. I am actually aware of projects (esp LNG) ongoing in OZ but you've rightly mentioned some of my fears bordering on experience and offshore operations. Certain decisions can really be burdensome. huh
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by ArtistA:
Hi Everyone,

I applied for a Temporary skilled graduate Visa (18 months validity, multiple entry) which was approved some weeks back. I was given a one year window to turn up in Australia before it starts counting. I have a BEng (Nig) & MSc (UK) in Chem Eng. I'm in Nigeria at the moment and thankfully, participating in a recruitment process of which if am successfully, I might not really need to tow the visa path. (Not still convinced yet undecided). Truth is I love Nigeria and would be happy if I can contribute to making things work but unfortunately, the love has never been returned. Having this at the back of my mind, I always try to seek alternatives. So guyz,

I need advice (Especially from those currently in Australia) on how best to go about graduate job search in Australia.
I decided to give Australia a try because I heard there are lots of prospects there.
I am already searching online using search agencies like seek, careerone, gradconnection etc. How effective are these sites with respect to graduate job search?.
I am hoping to secure an offer here before travelling over as it will help determine so many things e.g travel destination/city, housing, proximity etc. Can this be done or do I have to set foot in Australia to achieve this? How soon from experience can I secure a job on either scenario?. ( I don't know anyone in Australia)
My past work experience has been internship roles in the O&G sector thus the search for grad positions. I'm open to contract smiley or full time that can lead to Permanent Residencycheesy

I really need info/suggestions from as many of you as possible. You can refer me to those you know working in my field (recent graduates inclusive) if you don't have answers suited to my needs. My U.S (B1/B2) Visa expires mid next year and doesn't grant me working rights hence my focus on this.

Pardon me but I had to chip in the last sentence incase anyone has a broader or out of the box suggestion.

Been Skipping pageant threads on NL for ages (Don't mind the moniker, I've lived a silent lifetime on another) but this truly seems like fun cheesy. I didn't bother reading up each contestant. I just skimmed through so I am basing my vote strictly on the kind of #Miss# that might appeal to me of the lot. (My opinion).

Since I am entitled to 8 votes, Annypie x 8 cheesy
RomanceRe: The Growing Trend Of Men Shying Away From Court or White Wedding by ArtistA: 2:41am On Oct 06, 2014
A nice thread i must say

@jayjagz, madcow et al

Thanks for clarification. I have a question though. What happens in a scenario where things goes south in a marriage where all forms of union are performed and certificates obtained (ie Traditional, Court, Church etc.)? Which authority becomes the final arbiter and which of the issued documents becomes the most valid? Do the documents nullify each other till only one is left standing? I am assuming they can't all be valid since the rules that constitutes them differs (multiple wives and side chicks cheesy allowed in customary while it is *officially* an anathema in church/court unions in Nigeria)

*Just thinking aloud* : If the earliest document obtained is the most valid shocked , then 99.99% of Naija married men have been exercising their legal (and traditional) rights by default since 419AD cheesy

Please you guys shouldn't attack me wink just kidding while learning. I don't condone unfaithfulness and pray never to cheat on my wife. Awaits answer from the legalminds
