Crime / 23-year-old Nigeria Army Officer's Son Murdered In US by AseV(m): 6:38pm On Oct 08, 2020
Alexander Nwogu, the 23-year-old son of a Nigerian army officer, was reportedly murdered in cold blood at a gas station in Washington D. C. The United States of America, reports say.

ABN TV gathered that Alexander Nwogu is the son of Brigadier General Ignatius Nwogu from Mbaise in Imo State, and a serving military officer with the Nigeria army.

The late Nwogu is said to have died at a Northwest gas station early Monday morning and D.C. Police are still on the search for two men that fled the scene.

Reports say he was recently hired as a tech consultant with a Northern Virginia firm, Ernst and Young before he was murdered around 1:30 a.m. at the Shell gas station in the 4900 block of Connecticut Avenue.

“Never had any negativity about him,” Nwogu’s friend, Will Ventura, said. “Really positive, really hardworking, and caring. And he had such a bright future ahead of him.”

Ventura said the two dreamed of opening their own consulting firm together.

The reports indicate that the late Nwogu is a graduate of Virginia Tech, having graduated five months ago and has a brother and sister resident in Alexandria.

U. S. Police say Nwogu was a customer at the gas station when he was killed, and at this time they have no information to release on a possible motive behind the shooting.

In a tweet, according to media reports, the police department gave a description of two tall, black men with dark complexions possibly wearing New Balance shoes.

“I’m really sorry, surprised and shocked to hear about it,” said a neighbour, who expressed shock that this happened in such a wealthy part of the city.

The Metropolitan Police Department is said to have offered a $25,000 reward to anyone that provides information for leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the homicide, as the investigation is ongoing.

Politics / Take Your Compliants To The Governor First, Abia Speaker Tells Protesters by AseV(m): 4:52pm On Oct 05, 2020
A group of protesting indigenes of Umuelendu Village in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State has protested to the Abia State House of Assembly over what they claimed to be the illegal takeover of their lands by some people.

Speaking on behalf of the protesting group, Mr Okechukwu Sunday said, "Mr Speaker, we are here for just one reason, we want to bring to your notice the plight that has befallen Umuelendu Villaga in Obingwa Local Government Area.

"Our brothers and sisters are all here because of the ill-treatment meted to us by the Abia State Government.

"Let reason prevail against the selfish interests of few individuals who want to take over our land.

"We don't have enough land even though we have many children; we are not happy, Umuelendu people are not happy. In 2017, we experienced this same issue when a Medical Doctor slumped and died", members of the protesting community said.

Responding, the Speaker commended the protesting group for their peaceful disposition in making their feelings known.

"I believe that you people are from Obingwa Local Government Area, and the Governor of the State is from your community.

"The Governor is your brother. He is also from Obingwa like yourselves. This is failure on your part because I believe you could have sent a representative to the Governor to tell him your grievances first for possible resolution. You know yourselves that he is a listening Governor and that he would have listened to you," the Speaker advised.

The Speaker thereafter urged the community to make out time to see the Governor and present their complaint to him before presenting it as a petition to the House of Assembly, if there was still any need.

"It will be wrong as a House for us to come and do anything when you have not first briefed the Governor on the matter," the Speaker concluded

Education / BREAKING: Ikpeazu Approves N400m Bailout Fund For ABSU by AseV(m): 11:53am On Sep 29, 2020
Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the release of the sum of Four Hundred Million Naira (=400,000,000. 00) bailout fund for Abia State University Uturu.

This is following what the state government called "strong representations from the Management and Staff of the Abia State University to the State Government for some form of financial assistance".

The fund according to the state government will among other things enable the payment of staff salaries and other financial obligations in the institution.

Recall that ABN TV on Monday brought you a report on how both academic and non academic unions in the university staged a peaceful protest over non payment of salaries in the past 6 months.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, he applauded the financial prudence of Abia State University Uturu management, saying the current financial challenge rocking the school may not be unconnected with the outbreak of COVID-19.

"Following strong representations from the Management and Staff of the Abia State University to the State Government for some form of financial assistance in the wake of the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor of Abia State State and Visitor to the University, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD has approved the structuring of bail out funds in the sum of Four Hundred Million Naira (=400,000,000. 00) for the University.

"This bail out fund is expected to be applied by the University Management to meet basic financial obligations including but not limited to the payments of salaries of workers in the University.

"In granting this approval, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is mindful of the fact that the Abia State University has remained a strong model in resources management and maintenance of academic stability. The Governor notes, with pride that the University has, since the inception of his administration remained a signpost for excellence and service which has manifested in the consistent improvements in the rating of the University by independent assessment agencies in the country.

"The Governor notes further that the pandemic which took the entire globe by surprise has fundamentally altered the smooth academic environment in the University leading to obvious disequilibrum in their financial inflows.

"Governor Ikpeazu is of the firm belief that under the circumstances, the University is well deserving of this assistance from the State Government.

"Details of the structure of the bail out will be worked out between the officials of the State Government and the University Management Team.

"The Governor believes that this line of support, which is unprecedented in the history of the Institution will provide the needed impetus for the University to jump-start academic activities and continue to sustain her position in the nation's academic environment" the statement read.

Politics / Chikwe Udensi: Abia Shall Be Liberated From The Clutches Of Godfathers by AseV(m): 11:31am On Sep 24, 2020
The head Interpol Security Systems Nigeria and member Board of Trustees All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA ) in Abia State Sir Chikwe Udensi has charged all well-meaning Abia elites and the electorates to see the just concluded Edo State election as a typical example of what will happen in the state Come 2023 election.

He said Abians have become more politically conscious and have understood the need to take their destinies into their hands by making sure their votes will count in subsequent elections.

Udensi expressed confidence that this consciousness will trigger the absolute and total rejection of any candidate from any Godfather who will at last feast from the state treasury.

Udensi stated that one of greatest branches of Corruption is undue influence by Godfathers on whosoever they handpick to occupy any political position, he lamented how this factor has tremendously affected the overall advancement and economic development of Gods own state.

The APGA Chieftain stated the obvious fact that Abia has been suffering from the ills of bad governance despite the huge amount generated internally from the state and from federal allocations.
