Politics / I Hold No Grudge Against Anyone, Kalu Finally Speaks by AseV(m): 4:26pm On Jun 04, 2020
Following his release from the facility of Nigeria Correctional Service on Wednesday, the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has finally broken his silence.

ABN TV reports that while addressing supporters who came to welcome him in Abuja on Wednesday, the member representing Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin Kalu who spoke on behalf of the senator said he holds no grudge against anyone, maintaining that he is ready to give his support to the development of the country.

According to Hon. Kalu, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu's prolonged stay in prison had made it necessary for him to isolate himself in readiness for the resumption of duty at National Assembly, saying it is the reason he cannot address a crowd at this moment.

"In line with WHO and NCDC protocol, as a man who is used to obeying the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has been in incarceration and coming out. He wants to continue obeying the laws of the land in line with social distancing. He said a time will come for us to celebrate but for now, he is calling on us to maintain the protocol. He will not be addressing the mammoth crowd for now but in days to come, he will do that" he said.

Sen. Kalu also expressed gratitude to the people of Abia North, Abia State and Ndigbo at large for believing that justice should be done in his case.

Celebrities / Kylie Jenner's Billionaire Status Stripped After She "Forged" Tax Returns by AseV(m): 5:16pm On May 29, 2020
Kylie Jenner's billionaire status has been struck out by Forbes, months after being dubbed the world's youngest billionaire.

Recall that in March 2019, the reality show star unseated Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, then 35, as the youngest-ever self-made billionaire (he was 23 when he made his first billion 11 years ago in 2008).

Forbes has now revoked the 22-year-old's billionaire status, and also accused her of 'lying about company figures and forging tax returns' to reach the billionaire status in its report titled “Inside Kylie Jenner’s Web of Lies — and Why She’s No Longer a Billionaire”

The American business magazine which reviewed filings from Coty, the beauty giant which the mother of one sold 51 per cent of her Kylie Jenner Cosmetics to in a deal valued at $1.2 billion in January 2020, found that Kylie's beauty company "is significantly smaller, and less profitable than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets to believe".

Forbes further revealed that the numbers the Kardashian-Jenner family gave for Kylie Cosmetics were questionable, especially after comparing them to the numbers following Coty's acquisition.

With this new information and the COVID-19 pandemic, Kylie's net worth is now according to their calculations "just under $900 million."

The report read;

"More than a third of that is the estimated $340 million in post-tax cash she would have pocketed from selling a majority of her company.

"The rest is made up of revised earnings based on her business’s smaller size and a more conservative estimate of its profitability, plus the value of her remaining share of Kylie Cosmetics—which is not only smaller than the Jenners led us to believe, but is also worth less now than it was when the deal was announced in November, given the economic effects of the coronavirus.

"Revenues over a 12-month period preceding the deal: $177million according to the Coty presentation, far lower than the published estimates at the time.

"More problematic, Coty said that sales were up 40% from 2018, meaning the business only generated about $125 million that year, nowhere near the $360 million the Jenners had led Forbes to believe.

"Kylie’s skincare line, which launched in May 2019, did $100 million in revenues in its first month and a half, Kylie’s reps told us. The filings show the line was actually “on track” to finish the year with just $25 million in sales."

Stephanie Wissink, an equity analyst covering consumer products at Jefferies told Forbes;

“It’s fair to say that everything the Kardashian-Jenner family does is oversized. To stay on-brand, it needs to be bigger than it is.”

Forbes added that when they reached out to the Kardashian-Jenner family with “questions" on Kylie Jenner’s personal fortune which sits at just under $900 million (with more than a third of her earnings coming from the Coty sale), they stopped answering.

ABN TV reports that Njoku’s wife, Chidinma, was said to have given birth to the conjoined twins on March 11, 2020, but their sight was not something that the man could behold.

Sadly, the conjoined twins, Goodluck and Rejoice Njoku were reported to have lost their mother three hours after their delivery.

Director-General of the Imo Foundation, the humanitarian organ of the Imo State government, Mrs Beulah Chukwuma, who spoke to newsmen while highlighting the plight of the children, said that after the burial of their late mother, the conjoined twins were brought to them.

Chukwuma said, “Presently, we have a family with conjoined twins.

Their mother, Mrs Chidinma Njoku died on 11th March 2020 three hours after giving birth to them in a maternity in Umuokoto Nekede in Owerri West Local Government Area.

“Their father, Mr Anayochukwu Njoku, was helping his late wife in her tailoring shop to earn a living to support their poor family of six before the arrival of the conjoined twins after he lost his job two years ago as a driver.

“By the special grace of God, as soon as the case got to the desk of Governor Hope Uzodimma, he gave an urgent directive for the twins to be brought to the Foundation for their adequate welfare and survival...

NYSC / I Donate My Allawee To Orphans Because I Lost My Parents At A Young Age - Corper by AseV(m): 7:39pm On May 15, 2020
A member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia State, Nkoro Eberechi Paullucy has said he donated his N30,000 allowance to the orphanage home in order to help them not to feel the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Sports / Premier League To Resume Next Month As Government Give Green Light by AseV(m): 6:40pm On May 11, 2020
The Premier League could resume behind closed doors as early as June 1 after the Government gave the green light to restart the season.

A 60-page roadmap was unveiled by the Government on Monday afternoon in which various protocols were outlined including the return of professional sport.

And, as part of his plan to bring the UK out of lockdown, Boris Johnson has stated that sport will be permitted to be broadcast from behind closed doors from the start of next month at the earliest.

Under phase two of the Prime Minister's coronavirus plan, which cannot begin any earlier than June 1, the document confirms they will allow "cultural and sporting events to take place behind-closed-doors for broadcast while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact."

The news is a welcome boost for the Premier League, who held a meeting with their 20 clubs on Monday but, when the news of the Government's plan emerged, there was no comment from the top flight.

A return to action will only be possible though if sufficient progress is made in limiting the spread of the virus between now and then, the document entitled 'Our Plan to Rebuild: The UK Government's Covid-19 Recovery Strategy' says that "organisations should plan accordingly".

It is less clear when supporters will be able to return to venues. The document talks about venues such as cinemas and hairdressers reopening in step three - no earlier than July 4 - but states: "Some venues which are, by design, crowded and where it may prove difficult to enact distancing may still not be able to reopen safely at this point, or maybe able to open safely only in part.

"Nevertheless the Government will wish to open as many businesses and public places as the data and information at the time allows.

"In order to facilitate the fastest possible reopening of these types of higher-risk businesses and public places, the Government will carefully phase and pilot reopenings to test their ability to adopt the new COVID-19 Secure guidelines.

"The Government will also monitor carefully the effects of reopening other similar establishments elsewhere in the world, as this happens.

"The Government will establish a series of task forces to work closely with stakeholders in these sectors to develop ways in which they can make these businesses and public places COVID-19 Secure."

Page 21 of the document warns that opening of venues such as sports stadia "may only be fully possible significantly later depending on the reduction in numbers of infections".

Politics / Ikpeazu Orders Quarantine Of Family Who Smuggled COVID-19 Corpse To Abia by AseV(m): 5:20pm On May 11, 2020
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered a 14-day quarantine of the family who reportedly smuggled the corpse of a COVID-19 victim back to Abia State.

ABN TV reports that the Abia State Government has received multiple intelligence and confirmation of certain persons and families of Abia origin currently residing in states with rising cases of COVID-19 planning to bring home corpses of family members suspected to have died from the virus for burial in our communities in total violation of the existing ban on inter-state movement and without notification or approval from relevant authorities in the state.

The most worrisome case is that of a family that recently sneaked into the state during the weekend with the corpse of their father who allegedly died of COVID-19 in Kano and was ferried to a community in Umuahia South LGA where unsuspecting citizens have been going to mourn with them unprotected.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the ministry of homeland security to immediately ensure the quarantine of everyone in the compound of the affected family pending when the medical rapid response team has fully collected and tested samples of all those involved including their visitors/mourners.

For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to restate that whoever enters our state during this period of ban on interstate movement is in breach of state and federal regulations and will have themselves to blame as the law will be applied to the fullest in order to protect the people of Abia State.

All village heads, traditional rulers and community leaders must take responsibility to stop and/or report any person or group of persons that enter their community from outside the state within this period or face necessary sanctions.

On no account should any corpse from outside the state be brought into any community for burial or preservation in a mortuary without the written approval of the state or local government concerned.

Mortuaries in the state are also not permitted to receive such corpses without obtaining a permit from relevant local or state authorities to avoid immediate sanctions including the closure of the facility.

The morgue operators should also endeavour to report families with such corpses to the relevant authorities.

Furthermore, the Governor has directed the enforcement team of the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to impound all commercial inter-state vehicles operating within this period and quarantine both the drivers and passengers at the nearest general hospital for a minimum period of 21 days.

Finally, we wish to appeal to our people not to see the partial relaxation of the lockdown in the state as an excuse to lower their guards as we will not hesitate to do whatever is needful, including reimposing full lockdown in the state, to protect the majority of our people from being infected with COVID-19.

We strongly advise citizens and residents of the state to remain wherever they are within or outside the state until this pandemic is over.

Thank you.

Chief John Okiyi Kalu
Honorable Commissioner for Information, Abia State
11/05/2020

A former Governor of Abia State, and the Senator representing Abia North District, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has remained in Kuje Prison because the judgment of the Supreme Court does not affect him.

The Apex Court, it was learnt, did not issue any order for Kalu’s release because he did not file any application for such.

The judgment only covers the Appellant, Mr Ude Jones Udeogu, who challenged the propriety of a Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Mohammed Idris to try him.

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Correctional Service Mr Jaafar Ahmed has also refused to release Kalu because there was no order from the Supreme Court.

It was learnt Kalu may have to approach the Court of Appeal, where he has a pending matter, to ask for his release following the dismissal of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos by the Supreme Court.

According to a copy of the judgment exclusively obtained by THE NATION, the Supreme Court clearly stated that the judgment relates only to the Appellant.

Health / WHO Refuse Testing Coronavirus Vaccine In Africa by AseV(m): 8:55am On Apr 07, 2020
Tedros Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organisation, has dismissed as “racist” a suggestion by two French scientists that the coronavirus vaccine should be tested in Africa.

Science professors, Jean-Paul Mira of Cochin Hospital in Paris and Camille Locht of Inserm, France’s national medical research centre, appeared on French television LCI on April 2 to debate potentials for COVID-19 cures.

Mr Mira wondered if he “may be provocative, should this study not be done in Africa?” Mr Locht then replied:

“You are right. We are currently thinking similarly about a study in Africa regarding the BCG vaccine.

"There is a proposal that has gone out — or will. We will seriously consider it.”

Their statement elicited immediate backlash on social media, with top sports celebrities like Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o describing it as unbelievably shocking and provocative.

Following the outrage, the scientists apologised for their comments and said they had only suggested that Africa should be added to an ongoing trial of a vaccine in Europe and Australia.

They argued that Africa might be a better place to get a more accurate result for the tests because, unlike Europe and Australia, there was no widespread use of protective gears on the continent.

Reacting further to the scientists’ comments at a press briefing on Monday, Mr Ghebreyesus described such suggestions as a hangover from the “colonial mentality.”

“Africa cannot and will not be a testing ground for any vaccine,” the WHO chief from Ethiopia said.

“We will follow all the rules to test any vaccine or therapeutics all over the world using exactly the same rule … whether it is in Europe, Africa or wherever.”

He further lampooned the statement as “a disgrace actually, appalling to hear during the 21st century from scientists, that kind of remark.”

He said “proper protocols will be followed and human beings will be treated as human beings because we are all human beings” in the course of testing any potential vaccine against the coronavirus pandemic.

Sports / Manchester United Defender, Harry Maguire Out With Hip Injury by AseV(m): 10:17am On Jan 09, 2020
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hip injury.

The centre-back missed the 3-1 home derby defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.

It was originally thought Maguire's issue was a foot problem sustained in the goalless FA Cup draw at Wolves. There has been no official confirmation from United on a return date for the England international.

Maguire, who has often captained the team this season, is not expected to feature in Saturday's Premier League match against bottom club Norwich.

Given United's key run of fixtures coming up - which includes a trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool on January 19 - an extended absence for Maguire would represent a significant blow.

When addressing the issue following the defeat by City, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been optimistic Maguire would not be out for long.

"We don't know (about Maguire)," Solskjaer said. "He's not going to be long term, but I don't think he'll be ready for the weekend, but let's see."

Phil Jones, meanwhile, is expected to shake off a bout of cramp to be available against Norwich if needed.

"It's his first 90 minutes for a while (since October) and he came through it," Solskjaer added.

Health / Joy As Nigeria Doctors Separate Conjoined Twins by AseV(m): 1:51pm On Jan 08, 2020
A team of doctors in Nigeria have successfully separated one-year-old conjoined twins.

Lead surgeon Emmanuel Ameh told the BBC the operation to separate Goodness and Mercy Martins at the chest and abdomen took place in November and the two sisters were now well enough to go home.

He said the operation, which cost about $55,000 (£42,000), was complicated and lasted for about 12 hours. It involved 78 doctors working in two groups.

But the medics at National Hospital Abuja did not charge for their work because the twins’ parents - Michael Edeh and Maria Onya Martins - could not afford the medical bills.

They rely on Mr Martins’ salary as a painter to get by.

The couple had first brought their daughters to hospital in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, in August 2018 just after their birth.

The doctors decided to operate a few months after the twins turned one

But the doctors couldn’t operate on them immediately as they were not well enough.

They were cared for at the government-owned hospital for the next 15 months and their strength built up over time. The green light was then given for the operation.

The hospital has separated about 11 conjoined twins over the last 20 years, but in those cases, all the twins had been joined at the abdomen.

The hospital’s medical director, Jaff Momoh, said this case stood out as it was the first time an operation had involved the lower chest wall, liver and diaphragm.

Mr Martins said he was so happy to see his daughters alive and well - and the family were looking forward to returning home.

His wife said words were not enough to thank the team of doctors and the kindness of the hospital staff.

She said she had felt heartbroken when the babies were born, but now she was all smiles.

The minister of health has visited the hospital to praise the efforts of the medics and meet the family - and the women's affairs minister has promised to give Mrs Martin a job to help the family.

Sports / Trent Alexander-Arnold Eyes Third Successive Champions League Final by AseV(m): 1:00pm On Jan 08, 2020
Liverpool want to "win as many trophies as possible" in 2020, according to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has already set his sights on more success in the Champions League.

The Reds picked up a unique treble last year, following up a sixth European Cup triumph with success in the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

Jurgen Klopp's men are now on course to add a Premier League crown to their haul, having opened up a 13-point lead at the top of the standings after 20 fixtures.

Liverpool has a game in hand over second-placed Leicester and reigning champions Manchester City, and the Merseyside outfit have also managed to progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup and reach the Champions League knockout stages again, with a heavyweight last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid on the cards in February.

Alexander-Arnold is eager for Liverpool to replicate last year's success in the competition, while also maintaining their domestic form through to May.

“Keeping up the momentum we’ve got and trying to replicate 2019 as much as possible because, if we do that, I think more trophies will come,” the England international told the club's official matchday programme when asked about his goals for 2020.

“With the position, we are in in the Premier League, if we can replicate what we did in the first half of the season then we will be in a solid position come May.

“Hopefully we can get to another Champions League final too, but we’ve got a difficult draw. Atletico Madrid is a stubborn team, one that’s hard to break down, and a passionate team with a passionate manager. It’ll be interesting to see the two managers on the touchline and see who is more passionate!

“We enjoyed the Champions League last year because we had such a tough run. Every game we had to get to the final was against a different type of opponent after a really tough group.

“We had a tough group this year and a tough round of 16 opponent again, but we like to be tested as a team because it brings the best out of us. If you want to be the best you have to beat the best, so for us it’s about testing ourselves as much as possible.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to go back to Istanbul again, which would be massive for the club, but to have a perfect 2020 we need to win as many trophies as possible.”

Liverpool will be back in Premier League action on Saturday, with a trip to north London to face Jose Mourinho's Tottenham on the cards.

Klopp's men are due to welcome Manchester United to Anfield eight days later, before coming up against Wolves at Molineux on January 23.

A fit and firing Cristiano Ronaldo is "really happy" now his knee problem is behind him, according to Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri.

Portugal international Ronaldo started 2020 with a bang on Monday as he netted a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Cagliari to take his tally to eight goals in his past five Serie A appearances.

The 34-year-old appears to have rediscovered his mojo having gone three games without scoring at the start of November when he was twice substituted by Sarri as he battled a minor knee problem.

There has been no sign of that issue affecting Ronaldo of late, though, with Sarri delighted the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is back to his best.

"Ronaldo has not any more problems with his knee and now he is enjoying his great physical and mental condition," the Juventus head coach told a news conference.

"Finally I can see him really happy because his knee is fine now. He can play at his best now."

Another Bianconeri player who has been troubled by injury issues is defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The former Ajax captain was an unused substitute in the victory against Cagliari having not started a league game in a month due to shoulder and adductor problems.

De Ligt has yet to replicate the type of form which earned him the move to Turin ahead of this season, yet Sarri is convinced he can fulfil his promise.

"The situation of De Ligt is very clear: I'm sure he'll become one of the best - or the best maybe - defenders in the world," Sarri added.

"We need to understand that he was just 19 coming to a club like Juventus and forced to play 23 games in a row.

"He needs to learn a new language and a new training technique. In Italy, he had to change his way to play and his lifestyle. He had a lot of work to do in the last months.

"He improved a lot, then he had some little injuries. But that's normal."

Juventus, who sit level on points with leaders Inter in the Serie A table, will be back in action on Sunday when they take in a trip to Roma.

Crime / Lagos, Rivers Headquarters Of Money Laundering – Magu by AseV(m): 7:43pm On Jan 07, 2020
THE Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, on Tuesday, described Rivers and Lagos States as the headquarters of money laundering in Nigeria.

Magu said that though Lagos State was the first in terms of money laundering, the unenviable position was followed by Rivers.

The acting EFCC chairman, who made these remarks while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, pointed out that the rate of money laundering in Port Harcourt was high as a result of the oil business going on in the city.

He said, “I think Rivers State is the next to Lagos in terms of crime. This (Rivers) is the headquarters of money laundering because there is a lot of oil money here.

“I think you can rate Port Harcourt the second to maybe Lagos when you talk of people playing with sinking, diving, hiding, maybe because of the large space of oil deals.”

Maintaining that the judgement halting the EFCC from probing Rivers State governors will not stand, Magu explained that the court order obtained by the former governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, retraining the anti-graft agency from investigating government officials in the state had been overtaken by event.

He added that the commission would ensure that no stone was left unturned in exposing all criminal activities in Nigeria.

Magu pointed out that unfolding events in the past had shown that not even the court would stop the EFCC from performing its function of investigating and prosecuting those alleged to be involved in financial crimes.

He stated, “Nothing is going to stop us; even the issue of the court order allegedly obtained by Dr Peter Odili and co to stop the EFCC from investigation and prosecution has been overtaken by event.

“I am telling you that, that judgement cannot stand; it will only take some time. it cannot hold and we are going to conclude the investigation. There are so many investigations we are doing.

“We will take it before the court; let the court refuse to prosecute their case. I am sure the matter has suffered for about 13 years now. we are going to test it. The matter is in the Supreme Court, we will follow it up.

“That decision that is pending in the Supreme Court does not actually… cannot hold water again. There are subsequent judgements that have discarded it. Clearly, there are other judgements that came up and said nobody, not even the judge, not even the judiciary, not even the court can stop us from investigating and prosecuting.”

He, however, recalled that the anti-graft agency had been able to secure the conviction of three former governors, adding that 1,245 convictions were recorded in 2019.

Health / Boy Born "Without Brain" Defies Odds, As Brain Grows From 2% To 80% (photos) by AseV(m): 9:06am On Dec 19, 2019
A boy born with 2 per cent brain capacity has amazed medical professionals when a scan revealed the organ had grown up to 80 per cent of its original size within three years.

The Sun reported that doctors believed there was no brain developed at all, but after another brain scan, medical staff were shocked to find that the brain was at 80 per cent capacity.

Medical professionals initially thought there was little chance for Noah Wall, of Cumbria in the UK, to survive due to his spina bifida and hydrocephalus conditions. However, the plucky youngster, who recently appeared on TV show Good Morning Britain with his parents Shelley and Rob, is now six years old.

Noah’s brain at birth was simply squashed into a small space and he was issued a shunt to help drain excess fluid from the brain.

Because the shunt was placed in the boy’s head, the brain was given the opportunity to grow into that space.

Doctors also suggested that Noah would have severe mental challenges, which included not being able to talk, see, hear, or eat.

But at the age of six, Noah was capable of all of that and has even managed to go surfing.

“Even if his brain had been so squashed up, he’d be severely mentally disabled because of all that damage and look at him – he’s as bright as a button,” said Noah’s father Rob.

There’s no current scientific explanation in how Noah’s brain grew from 2 per cent to 80 per cent in the space of three years, but there are studies that determine an infant’s normal growth trajectory of individual parts of the brain.

BBC News journalist Smitha Mundasad reported that newborn brains grew at an average rate of 1 per cent a day, slowing at 0.4 per cent at the end of the 90-day period in a study.

Researchers scanned 187 healthy babies from birth to three months, a study that was led by scientists at the University of California to help better understand early disorders.

The cerebellum, an area of the brain that controls movement was reported to have the highest rate of growth, doubled in size after the 90-day period.

The report also suggested that babies born earlier were at 4 per cent smaller than babies born on time.

Though babies born earlier showed growths at a quicker rate, the report said their brains were still 2 per cent smaller at the end of the three months.

An article published in the NeuroQuantology in July 2018, written by J. Shashi Kiran Reddy (National Institute of Advanced Studies) and Contzen Pereira (Doctor of Philosophy) reported their understandings of how Noah grew his brain through a Neuro-Quantum perspective.......

Crime / Africa Eye: Kenyan Woman Exposes Sex Traffic Network In India (photo) by AseV(m): 4:24pm On Dec 18, 2019
BBC Africa Eye has uncovered a network that traffics women to India as sex workers for African men.  This investigation features the story of a Kenyan woman called Grace who goes undercover to expose the people involved in the sex trade. She is one of the many young women who are trafficked from Africa to India.   Grace responded to an advertisement for dancers and hostesses in a WhatsApp group.

When Grace arrived in New Delhi she was taken to a brothel where she realised that her dream was about to turn into a nightmare. Her passport was confiscated and in order to regain her freedom, she was asked to pay off a grossly inflated fee for the facilitation of her travel to India. This happens to many women like Grace- these debts can range from $3700 to $5800.

Women are forced to have sex with strangers to pay off their debt  before they are freed.  Even when they repay their so called 'debt'  many  find themselves trapped:  living illegally in India, many have no choice but to continue to work in the sex industry.

Every night, gatherings are held across New Delhi.  Scores of women parade themselves in front of men, who mingle and chat while being served drinks and African food in underground bars.  The women are from East and West Africa. The men are African and can choose the women they like and take them to their homes, an alley, or a brothel, to have sex.   These meeting places – are illegal clubs known as “kitchens”.

In this web of corruption and deceit, most trafficked women are still trapped after they have made the payments demanded of them. Their visas have expired and they end up as illegal immigrants.  Many of the trafficked women either become a Madam forcing women in to sex work or continue to be a sex worker themselves

Grace takes us to the place she spent six months paying her ‘debt’ exposing the people that brought her over to India.  Caught up in a vicious cycle of alcohol and sex, she is left wondering if there will be an end to her nightmare. “I don’t want anybody else to go through what I had to endure. I want this to stop, she says.”

Foreign Affairs / 7 Things You Must Know About Donald Trump's Impeachment Inquiry by AseV(m): 4:15pm On Dec 18, 2019
US President Donald Trump is facing a process that could, with enough support in Congress, see him removed from office.

It all centres on whether or not he improperly sought help from Ukraine to boost his chances of re-election in 2020.

Formal impeachment charges were approved by the Democratic Party-controlled House Judiciary Committee on 13 December following weeks of debate.

President Trump, who is a Republican, strongly denies any wrongdoing.

Depending on what happens in the next few weeks, Mr Trump could end up becoming only the third president in US history to be impeached - but more on what that means below.

What is he accused of doing wrong?

President Trump is accused of pressuring Ukraine to dig up damaging information on one of his main Democratic challengers for the presidency in 2020, Joe Biden, and his son Hunter.

Hunter worked for a Ukrainian company when Joe Biden was US vice-president.

The president is accused of dangling two things as bargaining chips to Ukraine - withholding $400m of military aid to Ukraine that had already been allocated by Congress, and a White House meeting for Ukraine's president.

This, Democrats say, amounts to an abuse of presidential power, using the office for personal political gain and to the detriment of national security. Ukraine was using that money in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Mr Trump is also accused of obstructing Congress by refusing to co-operate with the congressional inquiry.

What is the evidence against Trump?

A formal complaint from a whistleblower - an unnamed intelligence official who wrote a letter expressing concern about Mr Trump's 25 July call with President Volodymyr Zelensky - kicked off the impeachment process in early September.

A rough transcript of the call revealed that Mr Trump had urged President Zelensky to investigate discredited allegations against Joe and Hunter Biden.

The call came shortly after Mr Trump had blocked the release of millions of dollars in US military aid to Ukraine. A senior official later testified that the president made clear the release of the aid was conditional on Mr Biden being investigated, but the White House denies this.

In a series of public hearings, a procession of US officials have testified that there was a White House shadow foreign policy led by the president's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.

Its aim was to get Ukraine to open an investigation into the Bidens and declare as much publicly.

What is his defence?

Mr Trump denies using US military aid as a bargaining chip with Mr Zelensky and has repeatedly insisted his call with Ukraine's leader was "perfect".

He has called the impeachment inquiry a "witch hunt" by Democrats and elements of the media.

He also says it was appropriate to ask Ukraine to investigate "corruption", referring to the energy firm where Hunter Biden worked.

The Republican defence comes in three parts:

- Ukraine's president said he felt no pressure

- The Ukrainians were unaware the aid was held back

- US military aid was eventually released

What is impeachment anyway?

To impeach, in this context, means to bring charges in Congress that will form the basis for a trial.

The US constitution states a president "shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanours".

It's important to note this is a political process, rather than a criminal one...

Sports / Nigerian Table Tennis Players In 'bad State' In Bosnia by AseV(m): 3:58pm On Dec 18, 2019
Nigeria's government has raised a concern about the plight of two Nigerian table tennis players, Alexandro Abia and Kenneth Eboh, held in Bosnia-Herzegovina since last month.

In a BBC interview, the chairwoman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said she had spoken to the two students, and they were in a bad state.

She added that one of them had fainted while in a migrant camp in Bosnia.

The two were meant to have been sent back to Nigeria on Friday, she added.

Mr Abia and Mr Eboh said they were forcefully deported to Bosnia-Herzegovina from Croatia, where they were attending a university table tennis championship last month.

They say they were mistaken for illegal migrants.

The Croatian government has denied their allegations, saying the students disappeared after checking out of their hotel voluntarily.

Ms Dabiri-Erewa said the Nigerian government would ask the European Union (EU) to intervene if the students were not sent back home this week.

Bosnia-Herzegovina is not a member of the EU.

A 17-year-old Gift John is currently living on the edge of life following abandonment by her estranged lover who put her in the family and absconded thereafter.

The native of Akaokwa in Imo State who is now a mother of twins has now resorted to street begging to carter for her children whose father has disappeared into the thin air.

“I dated the man for almost two years, he knew that I was pregnant and after given birth to the twin, he ran away and the babies are three months old now,” she said.

Narrating further her experience to ABN TV on Friday along Aba road by Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, in Abia State where she presently sits to beg for alms from passersby, the young mother said her situation was complicated as a result of the bad state of her mother's health condition who has also resorted to street begging just a few meters away from her daughter.

“My mother has done operation three times and also looking for money to go for another operation,” she said.

While explaining that the whereabouts of her lover boy is still unknown to her, Gift stated she wants to raise a capital to commence business to adequately look after her twin baby boy and girl.

“What I know in this life is that if God gives you children, you have to do something to take care of them. That’s why I want help.

“I don’t want the man in my life again. If the twin grows up a little, I will go and complete my training because I was a hairdresser. I stopped my education in primary 5.” She added.

One need to question your reasoning ability if you take this disgrace of a being seriously.
Note, I'm not in support of either of the sides in this brouhaha, but I'll never believe anything that comes from this insane fellow knowing fully her despicable antics.
Honestly, you sound like someone with reasoning disability if you're able to calm down and talk like this. So your reason for not believing Kemi is because she's an "insane fellow" and her "despicable antics" which makes me ask; which makes me wanna ask, why didn't you investigate yourself? But you believed Busola Dakolo who prior to this incident you never knew existed! That's double standards bro

It is simple.. The pastor slept with her and he is still sleeping when his church members...

I don't believe it was a rape, but I believe there was sexual intercourse and the pastor still goes around manipulating underage members of his flock
I wouldn't make such assumptions though!
