EducationI Didn't Have Any Girlfriend In School - Unilag Record Breaker by ashantemoore(op): 12:57pm On Mar 24, 2016
Unilag Record Breaker, who scored an accumulative grade point average of 5.0, and honoured by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, speaking on how he achieved his feat said he never had a girlfriend in school.

Speaking with correspondents after being honoured by the House of Representatives at its chamber on Wednesday in a rare show of honour reserved for only presidents and top government officials, Ayodele Dada, the ex-University of Lagos student, who scored a 5.0 CGPA, has briefly narrated how he juggled several jobs and school, declaring that he never had a girlfriend in his time at the university.

He also spoke on how he achieved the feat, saying: "They were many things that contributed to that. It is difficult to put it down to one thing because I look at life as a very colourful mosaic of experiences; they all blend to create a picture.

"I know God was there for me all the way, but there was the support of very well-meaning but not-so-celebrated people like my lecturers."

Speaking on how he coped with female course mates and admirers, he said: "Interestingly, almost all my friends are girls. Why that is so is that I maintain a positive relationship with girls. For me, it was more of focus, and the readiness to keep to my principles."

And on whether he had a girlfriend at school, he simply said "I didn’t have any girlfriend." He also disclosed that he had received a lot of job offers, but that he would think on which one best suits his vision.

"Yes, I have got a number of offers. One day passes and I get a call, then another call; I don’t know the number, but they are accumulating. They are so many, so it is up to me decide what is in line with my vision."

On how he survived at school, he said: "I had to work at school. I was working several jobs to pay my bills after classes. There were times I had financial challenges and I was hungry. I faced all the difficulties. Although after a while, there was a bit stability. I did private tutoring, and I made sometimes N5,000 per day."

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Market And Sell Yourself To Employers With Your CV by ashantemoore(op): 12:08pm On Nov 23, 2015
Write a professional targeted resume pointing out your skills relevant to the job role required in the job advert bearing in mind the following...

Do not go over the top by giving wrong information that are untrue to impress the recruiter.
Highlight specific achievements.
Use positive and active language.
Fill your resume with keywords found in the job advert.
Stress your reliability, teamwork and technical skills.
Show that you have a positive attitude and able to resolve problems.

Use power words and phrases like:
Able to cope under pressure.
Results orientated.
Demonstrates problem solving abilities.
Ability to manage and supervise others.
Analyze information.

Do not use clichés
Avoid using overused phases that can become meaningless and irritating to the reader which can be a big turn off for some people.

Use professional and technical language
If you work in a specialized field then you will have to use a lot of professional/technical keywords and buzz words to spice up your CV and make it more interesting to read.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Typical Oral Interview Tips, Questions & Answers by ashantemoore(op): 7:02pm On Nov 15, 2015
And sincere apologies if you are suppose to receive your professional CV/cover letter today but haven't, you will by noon tomorrow. Thank you for understanding.
Jobs/VacanciesTypical Oral Interview Tips, Questions & Answers by ashantemoore(op): 6:49pm On Nov 15, 2015
For those having oral interview tomorrow/Tuesday with those that have mailed asking for likely interview questions, these should help...

Interview tips

An interview is essentially a discussion between you and a recruiter to find out if you are suitable for the job and the golden rule of any successful interview is to try to predict what the recruiters want to hear, then decide on how best to present it during the interview.

Typically, you must have been short listed for an interview by the companies human resources department, who after reading your cover letter and CV must have been impressed enough to want to meet you in person. Don't forget that it takes a lot of effort and hard work to get to the interview stage, so the last thing you want to do is blow your chances once you get there because no matter how many interviews people have been through they can still be stressful occasions right from the build up to the actual meeting and questioning.

So therefore, during an interview you should carefully note the following...

* Make sure you understand the question before answering it.
* Turn off your mobile phone.
* Don't use slang or argue with the interviewer.
* Keep the conversation relevant to the job, do not discuss religion or politics unless asked to.
* If you are nervous, then use breathing techniques to calm yourself down.
* Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview.

Interview preparation
Interview can be traumatic and preparing for them can be stressful, time consuming and hard work. However there is no other way around it, to give yourself the best chance of successfully getting through one you have to practice and prepare in detail.

Do this by trying to look at the situation from the point of the employer and interviewer. Read the job description in detail, (what sort of role are they trying to fill?). Second guess what sort of technical or work related questions are they likely to ask a candidate? You should always prepare your answers and have them ready and memorised.

Be confident in the knowledge that amongst all the other applications they have seen something in your CV writing that they like. They believe you are capable enough to do the job, and you have a real chance at being employed. However before they employ you they basically need more information from you. They will look to find your weaknesses and also your strengths to see which are most suited to the job, so be prepared for a tough grilling. During the interview always listen carefully to the question being asked of you, then give a relevant answer.

More tips...

Arrive the interview venue 30 minutes before the time given and dress smart.
Take a copy of the invitation letter with you.
Make sure you know your CV inside out, just in case your asked detailed questions about it.

When answering any technical or work related question try to give them a example a scenario you have been involved in that will help answer the question. A great interview technique is to assess your capabilities and strengths by writing them down and then analyzing them to see how relevant they are to the job description.

Typical interview questions....

Tell me more about yourself?
Do not reply by telling them trivial things like what you had for breakfast or who your favorite uncle is. Instead try to focus on points that show you in a positive light and relate to the job you are applying for. If they ask about your hobbies or what you do in your spare time, try to give examples that demonstrate your technical, social skills and ability to fit in with groups.

What do you like most about your present job?
Mention things in your current job that you are good at and can explain. Focus on customer or client satisfaction.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your present / previous job / career?
Have ready details of a project you completed successfully. For instance where you were put in charge of a department for a month or where you had to meet a deadline for a major customer.

Why are you applying for this job?
Answer along the lines that you are looking to further your career, or that you feel your skill sets and experience match perfectly with the job role. Also mention that you enjoy this particular type of work / role.

Another good point is to highlight some point that the company is particularly proud of. For instance they may have a brand or public image they are very proud of, in this case stress that you want to be working for their brand. Although you may not be able to use this technique with small companies.

How do you think you can benefit our company?
Refer back to the job requirements in the vacancy advert and then point by point illustrate how you can meet all of those requirements.

What do you think your greatest strength is?
Try not to be big headed by giving extravagant examples of what you think you are good at, for instance do not say that you are a workaholic, it will reflect badly on you. Below are some examples of what you could mention:

Communication - I have been told that my greatest strengths is my ability to communicate with work colleagues. I feel my interpersonal skills allow me to get along with people from all backgrounds by listening to their views and advice on important issues.

Able to prioritize - I believe one of my greatest strengths is my ability to prioritize my work. Ensuring that important tasks are done first so that all of my projects are completed on time.

Positive - I have a positive attitude to my work, a social life that helps me in challenging situations and also in finding solutions to problems. It also rubs off on my colleagues and I believe helps to keep them motivated.

Quick learner - I have a proven ability to be able to pick things up very quickly.

What do you think your greatest weakness is?
When telling an interviewer about a flaw you have, always mention at the end of it how you are doing something to fix your weakness. Never mention emotional problems or inability to socialize with people. Below are some examples of what you could mention:

Slowness - In the past I have been criticized for being slow completing projects. The reason for this is that I always want to make sure a job is done properly, however I am aware of the need for meeting deadlines and work extra hard to ensure all project deadlines are met.

Too friendly - Some people have criticized me in the past for being too friendly.

Have you applied to any other companies or vacancies?
Answer this by saying that their company is your preferred first choice and for this reason you have not applied to any other companies. If you have applied to other companies then only mention them if you have been invited to interviews, especially if they are large prestigious organizations. Do not mention those who have rejected you.

Where do you see yourself in say 5 years time?
Use this question to demonstrate your ambition and loyalty by reassuring them you want to stay with their company and not move on. The last thing an employer wants to hear is that you are only going to stay there temporarily until you see a better job somewhere else. For example...

I would see myself still with your company focusing on doing the job in hand. If opportunities for promotion do arise within the company I would consider applying for them, but that depends on the circumstances at the time. I want to remain with your company and become an expert in my field.

What motivates you?
Do not mention money or that you want to get promoted quickly. Instead focus on issues that benefit the company. For example...

I get satisfaction out of knowing that my customers are satisfied and happy with the service I give them. If given a task that I know will benefit my employer and also get my contribution noticed by my superiors, then I am motivated every day to ensure that the project is completed.

What is the most difficult decision you have had to make?
This is a opportunity for you to give a example of your ability to make tough decisions but also to show that you have feelings as well.

Have you got any questions you would like to ask us?
This is a opportunity for you to demonstrate your interest in their company and products and services. Ask questions about their products or services that have been in the news recently, this will show them that you are up to date with company developments. Limit questions to career development and training opportunities.

Below are examples of questions you could ask:

Will I require special training, if so how will I get this?
Who will be my immediate manager, who am I responsible to?
Which staff will I be in charge of?
If I am successful when can I expect to hear from you?
Will I be working on my own or as part of a team?

What are your hobbies, or what do you do in your spare time?
Only mention genuine sociable hobbies that you know about. The last thing you want to do is mention that you build model aircraft and then be asked detailed questions about it that you can't answer!

Best of luck

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Get An Entry Level Job As A Fresh Gradute With No Experience by ashantemoore(op):
We all know that the most difficult step of a fresh graduates career is getting his/her first job or entry level job if your father is not the Senate President because with limited or no work experience, it’s quite challenging to make an immediate impression on employers and getting invited to that all important first interview. However on a positive note its worth remembering that everyone has to start at the beginning. Workers with 5-10 years experience din’t suddenly appear out of thin air, they all needed an entry-level job to launch their careers.

Note that an entry level resume is suitable when applying for your first ever job and job applicants should use one to give a complete picture of themselves, they should go beyond simply showing what is required by an employer and instead demonstrate how to make a real difference to their company. Place a great deal of emphasis on what you know, and what you've accomplished, rather than where you've worked.

So to get that HR manager to send you a job interview invite and consequently get the job as a fresh graduate with limited or no work experience, do the following...

*Focus on how to translate your school/academic accomplishments, internship into experiences and skills that employer’s value in your entry level resume.
*Highlight those accomplishments that exemplify the skills you possess with the ones the employer is seeking in the job Ad by communicating transferable skills without having to list your career history.
* Work on converting your academic achievements to look like job related experience.
* Clearly explain what you know, what you've accomplished, and the skills you possess.
* Project the right image of your experience and knowledge.
* Make sure that your most important information stands out.
* Have your entry level resume sent out to a professional resume writer for review before sending it to the HR.

Don't work yourself out dear. Everyone knows that the most difficult step of a fresh graduates career is getting his/her first job or entry level job if your father is not the Senate President because with limited or no work experience, it’s quite challenging to make an immediate impression on employers and getting invited to that all important first interview. Jobs/VacanciesHow To Write A Fascinating Job Winning Cover Letter by ashantemoore(op): 8:42am On Nov 13, 2015
Here is how to write a fascinating catchy cover letter that will draw the HR's attention to your resume and motivate a job interview for you. Read below...

To start, lets see the definition of a cover letter again for better understanding?

So what is a cover letter? A cover letter is essentially an advert for your CV.

It is a single-page accompanying formal letter that serves as an introduction to a resume and no resume should be sent without one. The purpose of a cover letter is to introduce you to an organization, demonstrate your interest in the company or a specific vacancy, draw attention to your resume and motivate the reader to interview you. As it will most likely be read before your CV, it should be convincing and at a glance must grab the reader’s attention enough to encourage them to read your attached resume.

Its aim is to build on the information you provide in your resume, that will make sufficient impact on the reader to make them want to know more about you. It is a socially acceptable way of marketing yourself to the company and the only time a cover letter should not be included is when it is clearly stated in a job Ad not to include it, otherwise it should be included at all times.

Note that cover letter should be individualized for each position you are applying as it's an extension of your resume that reflects your knowledge of the employer’s needs.

The cover letter typically consists of three parts: Introduction, body, and closing.
Within these three parts you must include:
• why you are interested in the organization
• why they should be interested in you
• when and how you will contact them to follow up and schedule an appointment

How to Write a Cover Letter

1. If you know the name of the hiring manager, your salutation should be something like "Dear [insert name]" followed by either a comma or a colon. Make sure to address the manager formally using their proper title (Mr., Ms., Dr., etc.) but if you don't know the name of the hiring manager, consider addressing your letter "Dear HR Manager," "Dear Recruiting Team," or "Dear [insert company name] Team."

2. Write the first paragraph of your letter where you will mention the job for which you're applying and how you found the job listing. It should not to be more than 1 to 2 sentences in length.

3. Write the body paragraphs of your letter (1 or 2 body paragraphs) in order not to overwhelm the hiring manager or use up a great deal of his or her time answering the following questions in your body paragraphs:

Why you are qualified candidate for the position?
The work experience you have that fits the job requirements in the company's listing?
Why you want to specifically work for the company?

4. Write the final paragraph of your letter where you wrap up and discuss how you will proceed with the application reiterating in one sentence why you feel you're a perfect fit for the position.

If you plan on following up with the hiring manager in a week or two, include a specific date. Otherwise, just say that you look forward to interviewing for the position and discussing your qualifications further.

Provide your contact information, including your email address and phone number so the hiring manager can get in touch with you. Mention that your resume or references are attached (if applicable) and thank the person for their time.

5. End your cover letter with a respectful closing statement. "Best" or "Sincerely" are both classic options. Also, since you won't be able to sign your email, finish the letter by typing your full name.

Note that getting around the above points requires a professional CV designed to the highest standards and aimed directly at the needs, objectives and requirements of the employer.

Save your self a lot of time and effort, you can contact me if you need guides, hints or tips on how to write a professional standard or targeted eye catching CV tailored at each specific job role you want to apply for.
