Source: THE CABLE Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says whenever he wants to sack a public official who has been found to be corrupt, he gets many calls from religious and political leaders not to do so. Speaking on at 24th Nigerian Economic Summit plenary on corruption and rule of law, in Abuja on Monday, the vice-president said the Nigerian elite are often times in the way of getting rid of a corrupt official. Ngaire Woods, the founding dean of Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University, who moderated the plenary asked Ossinbajo to tell the summit who calls him when he wants to sack someone corrupt. In his response, Osinbajo said: “I would like to refer to the Nigerian elite, and it’s probably not fair to be that broad, but practically, every segment, because people who have access to you, they could be political leaders, religious leaders, business leaders, whoever has access to you. “We have a system where people just feel like, ‘why don’t you just give this guy a break?’ Which again is part of the problem. You don’t get one call, you get several calls.” The vice-president said the government is doing so much to tackle grand corruption and systemic corruption; stating that since he became vice-president, he has seen how much impact corruption can have on a country — and its more than he ever imagined. Osinbajo, who was commissioner of justice and attorney general in Lagos state for eight years, said one of the most frustrating parts of the fight against corruption for him is the slow pace of prosecution. He, however, added that the two conviction of former executive governors secured by the federal government has shown that the hand of justice may be slow, but it would eventually catch up. The professor of law said reforms are important, and the federal government has embarked on a number of them, including the criminal justice reform, but the federal government cannot reform state judiciaries. The vice-president sacked Lawal Daura, former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS). He was also involved in the suspension of Ayo Oke, former director general of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF). |
Good observation. NUT zonal elections are coming up next week. If you know delegates from your various schools, kindly advise them to vote wisely. Moreover, given the fact that the present NUT Executive in the state are just a bunch of lap dogs of the Rivers State Governor, it's high time we the 2013 set of teachers got involved in NUT affairs. Just imagine the illicit deductions made from our meagre salaries in the name of NUT dues, and yet the bunch of lazy NUT leaders can't effectively represent the overall interest of teachers' welfare. The time is now. Rexmarysweet: |
Well, that's your own opinion which you are entitled to. However, this is a legal matter and unfortunately private opinions have little or no bearing to it. Only facts are sacred. If the applicant pursuing this case is able to present his evidence in court, and can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the evidence brought before the court is true, then the law will take its full course. GOVERNOR NYESOM WIKE’S FORGED CERTIFICATE CASE GETS REAL; AS APPLICANT SEEKS HIS DISQUALIFICATION FROM 2019 ELECTIONS. What has been a rumor in Rivers State about Governor Nyesom Wike presenting a forged Certificate of Age to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken a life of its own as one Achinike William-Wobodo Esq., an electorate in Rivers State and also a Lawyer, has dragged INEC and the Governor to the Federal High Court (Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1020/2018). The case was brought pursuant to Section 182(1)(j) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), seeking the Court to disqualify Barr. Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State from participating in the 2019 General Governorship Election. The complaint of the Applicant was that in 1999/2000, when Nyesom Wike intended to contest for the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Council (LGA) Chairmanship Election, he was less than 35 years which was the announced age at the time for LGA Chairmanship. In order to qualify himself for that election, Mr. Wike procured someone who deposed to an Affidavit that he was born on 13th March, 1963, which made him eligible for that election. The said affidavit was allegedly made in 1986 and wherein copious reference was made of Obio/Akpor LGA, which was not in existence as at 1986. The LGA was created in 1989. Curiously, the Affidavit titled Statutory Declaration of Age was also allegedly deposed to at the High/Chief Magistrate Court, yet had a stamp, purportedly, of the Probate Registry. There was no identification or stamp of the person who allegedly administered the Oath as Commissioner for Oath as required by Oaths Act 1963. The Applicant alleged that the Governor had reasons to have known that the Age Declaration which he presented to INEC as his Age Certificate was forged, because even his date of Birth earlier submitted in his documentations with INEC was 13th December 1967. The Applicant also claimed to have known the Governor from 1991, when they were both of the same Faculty of Law in the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt and that the Governor had always presented his date of birth as 13/12/1967, that this made the Governor 50 years of age in 2017, and that this was consistent with the Governor’s 50th Birthday Celebrations last year in Port Harcourt. It was alleged that in the buildup to the 2015 Governorship Election in Rivers State, some social media platforms published that the Governor had an unresolved conflict around his age and threatened to publish same. It was in a bid to maintain consistency in his age that Governor Wike represented the forged Certificate of Age to INEC, which has now put him into a stronger dilemma. The Applicant gave particulars of forgery, which includes: (1) that the document lied against/about itself, (2) that the content was made of manifest inconsistent, inexplicable and irreconcilable falsehoods, (3) the information regarding the age of the Governor was false, and to the knowledge of the Governor, (4) that the Governor intended that INEC should act on the document as genuine, (5) that INEC acted on the document as genuine, (6) that the Constitution of Nigeria talks about presentation of forged certificate, it will be immaterial that the Governor claims he did not forge the document by himself, etc. A very close source to Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the Governor and his Party (PDP) are doing everything to suppress and frustrate the case. The source added that Governor Wike admits that the case is a very bad one and that the timing has made the situation even worse. Our source also revealed that the Governor had hoped that APC would not have been able to decipher a cause of action from his said certificate saga. He expressed shock that Mr. Wobodo was able to weave a very strong case out of the situation. Governor Wike and his team have resolved that their strategy would be to frustrate the case, right now he has directed his personal staff not to receive service of any court processes. A call to the Governor Wike on his mobile phone did not yield any results as he failed to take or return his call. When the Applicant was contacted, he simply said it was not time to speak on the matter. “Please, this is not the time for me to speak about this matter. My priority now is to serve the Governor and to have him appear in Court to respond to the issues. We can speak afterwards.” |
[quote author=Skepticus post=72144638] ![]() Muslims can be funny sometimes What is the meaning of [The father says he wants his daughter's corpse brought to him so as to bury her in the Islamic way. ? Is the slaughtering of Hauwa, an Apostate by the true Islamic evangelists not Islamic enough? Someone mention that Taqiiyyah nonsense, Islam is the religion of peace" and watch a Dangote truck crush their families to death. If you could write such things to gloat over the horrendous death of a human being, regardless of the deceased person's religion or ethnicity, it means you have lost every strand of what is left of your own humanity! I'm not a Moslem, but Hauwa was just as human as everyone of us. Your sister, mother, wife, aunt, or friend could've been that same Hauwa over whose death you have so brazenly desecrated with your ill-advised gloating! |
Hopesweet2:Point taken, Miss/Madam/Mr Incorrigible! But may I remind you that your outburst is just a mere symptom of a much bigger malaise? Obviously, the real definition of pride and ego is the kind of response you've given to just about everyone who said something about your "wroting". Enjoy your rantings while I sip on my cool zobo... Shekena....! |
Hopesweet2: |
Please did you guys *wrote * any letter concerning confirmation of appointment? Jeez......! Na wetin.....? Is it the bad economy that's causing all this? |
001bumsa:I really don't understand the point you're trying to make here. Many of those whose names were erroneously omitted from the February salary payment were paid March salary by the same people who omitted their names initially. So then, if their names are no longer in the State's database, then how come they received March salary? Or were they erroneously paid, too? |
ChyChy17:My dear, it's all about living in the realm of hope. With the way the system is going, there are no certainties anymore. Many of us are yet to be paid February salary, how much more the outstanding arrears. |
ChyChy17:It was last December. |
PPSB Zenith March salary alert just received this morning , as early as 8:30. No February salary and one month's arrears as yet. #Sad! |
tutudame:If my memory serves me well, I remember that it was because of this same incompetence and underhand practices by the Board that made Ex-Governor Amaechi ensure that our recruitment was outsourced to and handled by a competent private HR firm. Now, with all this gross incompetence being exhibited by the Board, imagine what would have happened to our recruitment process. Many better qualified and competent candidates would have been dropped while the grossly incompetent ones would have been recruited just because they know somebody who knows somebody who knows the oga at the top. Nepotism, instead of merit, would have been the order of the day. My dear, my position on Wike's part in all of this is simple: As the Chief Executive of the State, it's his responsibility to ensure that all government MDAs are running smoothly, as any misadventure, if not checked, could undermine his credibility, integrity, as well as his much touted "New Rivers vision", because after all said and done, the bulk stops at his table. |
tutudame:Well, that's a good point you made but have you thought of the fact that the so-called Board isn't an autonomous/separate entity from the Rivers State Government? Would Wike pretend he's not aware of the salary logjam? Why is it that nobody has resigned for gross incompetence? Why hasn't somebody been fired for causing untold hardships on hapless workers? Why hasn't any official statement been released by the governor himself in relation to the wicked delay of salaries? If he's not part of the problem, why hasn't he addressed civil servants already? Well, I could ask plenty of whys. But I guess the answer lies exactly in the obvious fact that this is really what the "NEW Rivers vision" is all about, right? By the way, what is really new or ingenious about putting old wine in a new wineskin? Or can a leopard easily get rid of the spots on its skin? Indeed, old habits really do die hard. Even the much maligned Amaechi didn't treat us this bad. It's a shame how myopic we Rivers people are. It's a big shame! |
ChyChy17:I pray so, too. |
Before this new administration and the first few months after it took the reins of power, workers' salaries were paid hitch-free. After a while, they told Rivers citizens that the wage bill was over bloated, hence they embarked on a gruelling 4-week verification exercise in order to expunge the ever-lurking names of "ghost workers" from the payroll. But from the information I got today, the mixup in the February salaries is based on the fact that they are using the old vouchers to execute payment of salaries. So, the question is: what was the essence of subjecting people to undergo a verification exercise that lasted for over three weeks, if you have to turn around to continue using the old vouchers? As if the pain and suffering weren't enough, we were given a new set of forms to fill out and attach our passport photo, all in the name of verification. Why are people in authority busy causing confusion in the system? Why? |
waliezi:Really? Are you pretty sure about that insider info? Do you know of any other UBE staff in other LGAs who received the extra arrears as you? Please inform the house. Thanks. |
waliezi:Are you of PPSB? |
This talk about Buhari/APC wanting Rivers State at all cost is just too pedestrian and foolish. What is so special about Rivers State? Oil? Excuse me! Lagos State makes much more money from IGR than Rivers State's Federal allocation and IGR combined. The roforofo in Rivers State is a mere battle of supremacy between the incumbent governor Wike and his erstwhile benefactor Amaechi. And their hordes of stupid followers are just blinded to the simple reality, but are rather busy killing themselves whereas the men in question have their families safely relocated elsewhere. By the way, if Wike had any sense or even a faint flash of memory of recent political precedence, as such that happened in Plateau State during Chief Obasanjo's regime, Wike should've learnt how to exercise decorum instead of making statements inciting people to violence. He also should've known better than playing into the hands of his political opponents, knowing full well that the dust raised about that Supreme Court judgement that kept him in power is yet to settle permanently. Let APC/PDP and Wike/Amaechi know that their selfish interests aren't worth the blood of goats, let alone the blood of any human being. Rivers State has suffered way too long in the bloody hands of these ravenous politicians whose sole interest lies in lining their private pockets with stolen public funds. Shame on them all!!! |
Reports by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have it that President Muhammadu Buhari may have called an emergency meeting in Abuja over the bloody legislative rerun election in Rivers state. The party had earlier in the day alleged that the president was already planning to declare a state of emergency in the state following the violence which has marred the election so far. And in a series of tweets by the party’s official Twitter handle on Sunday evening, President Buhari has assembled some leaders of the National Assembly as well as many other lawmakers on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The meeting may yet be to declare a state of emergency in the state following the killings and unending violence in the south-southern state. Check out the tweets below: @PdpNigeria Presidency directs Director of DSS, Commissioner of Police & other security agencies to pave way for the declaration of State of Emergency. 10:13 AM - 20 Mar 2016 President Buhari in a meeting at the Aso Rock over #RiversReRun . Governor Wike’s Chief Of Staff Held Over Assassination Attempt On NIMASA DG Dakuku | Sahara Reporters http:///1RYazLW The Department of State Security in Rivers State has thwarted an assassination attempt on Peterside Dakuku, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in last year's guber election in the state and reportedly arrested ChukwuEmeka Woke, the Chief Of Staff to Governor Nyesom Wike for leading a killer squad in two Sport Utility Vehicles that trailed and opened fire on Mr. Dakuku. According to a press release issued by Mr. Dakuku's office, the gunmen trailed him from Aba Road as he drove towards his house in the GRA area of Port Harcourt, but as his car made to turn towards the GRA entrance to his home, the gunmen drove aggressively hoping to overtake his car. Mr. Dakuku then changed course and drove to the state headquarters of the DSS as his security aide had already radioed for help. Soon as Dakuku was allowed into the premises of the DSS, officers at the gate reportedly opened fire on the two Suvs trailing him and succeeded in demobilizing the car and got some of the occupants including Mr. Woke arrested. One of Mr. Dakuku's security aides was seriously inured as a result of exchange of gunfire during the thirty-minute long encounter. |
You can take someone out of the village but you can never take the village out of them. Which village do you think she comes from?

ibitzbarlow:Good you admitted that men of the Nigerian Army were killed in that axis. On Channels News yesterday, the story also made some headline. So, are you saying that all the TV stations are wrong? |

The fact that you have been hearing and saying certain words in English for a long time does not really mean that they are correctly used in their proper context. As it is with other languages, it is wrong and equally misleading to misuse and abuse words in English. Many words have been wrongly misused and abused in English, and this stems from either laziness to learn the right usage or just stark ignorance of what really obtains in the language. For example, the word spinster has been wrongly used by many Nigerians for a very long time. Often times the word is wrongly used to mean the opposite of bachelor. So then, it's not uncommon to hear people say that a single lady, regardless of the age, is a spinster, and when such a person eventually gets married, she is said to have left "spinsterhood". This is very misleading because the dictionary does not define spinster as the opposite of bachelor. Are you shocked reading this? The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (7th Edition) says that the word spinster is "often disapproving" and defines it as: "a woman who is not married, especially an older woman who is not likely to marry". Then, on how the word should be used, it goes further to explain: "This word should not now be used to mean simply a woman who is not married." So, what then is the opposite of bachelor? The same dictionary points us to the fact that both the British and American varieties of English have their own individual word used to mean the opposite of bachelor. In British English, the word "bachelor girl" is used, while in American English the word "bachelorette" is used to refer to the same thing. Sounds weird and very unfamiliar, right? The fact that you are unfamiliar with these doesn't mean they aren't correct, and the fact that you're used to calling an unmarried young lady spinster doesn't make it right, either. Remember that words do have great power to recreate your world. Therefore, my dear sisters out there, don't let anyone call you what God hasn't called you yet. A spinster, in English, simply means AN OLDER WOMAN WHO IS NOT LIKELY TO MARRY. If you are not that older woman who is not likely to marry, please stop calling yourself nor let other people call you what you are not. Be properly advised. Please share if this has made a positive impression on you. |

?Pls,we should channel our grievances to the right quarters.....Is Wike responsible for some schools getting paid and others not getting paid last month?Do u really think this is a mistake or is someone trying to discredit the process to cover some ghost workers?Or is it cuz some nincompoop could not do his job competently? This guys at d board cannot be trusted or relied on for anything.
