Last week I create a thread complaining bitterly of a not too pleasant treatment I got from one of the Telecoms Provider and how a wrote an official letter stating my displeasure to the company by sending an official email.
Update: I received several emails and phone call from the company and top management staff apologizing for the behavior of their employees. This is to say to professional manner in which this issue was handled only proved that these companies invest heavily in training and retraining of their staff on how to serve customers better but unfortunately some employees are just bent on allowing their personal problems, pride, impatience and arrogance rob off on the job thereby painting the customer relations of the company in a bad light.

BELOW ARE 5 STEPS TO ENSURE YOU GET A GOOD SERVICE FROM YOUR PROVIDER:

Be it Bank, Filling Station, Telecommunication, Eatery, Hotel, Airline and every other business you patronize on a regular basis, below are the ways to ensure you avoid feeling cheated by your provider even while being loyal customer

Customer is King but you are not always right:
In as much as we all use and believe this phrase, is a very important to note that you as a customer is not always right so more often than not, always be patient to hear the explanation or feedback you are being given to you enquiries and request. Don’t always believe or assume that employees of such company should do your bidding because you are a customer. Most times if you force them to obey you because you are a customer, such an employee might be on the verge of losing his/her job for going against company rules.

Raising your voice only makes you lose your case:
Most times customers believe in order to get their way then need to raise their voice on the employees of such companies. This is a very bad and misleading way of expressing your displeasure. In a scenario were video or audio evidences are extracted to summon such an employee once it is observed that you the customer went on the shouting and screaming session and even threatening to go physical on the employee, you automatically lose out as you will be assumed to be the trouble shooter who is only out to provoke the employee of that company.
Over the time, keeping quiet and sometimes pretending not to hear or notice the bad behavior of such employee while channeling my complaint to the higher authority has worked more magic than going confrontational.

There’s always a channel to present your complain
Every corporate organization be it Bank, Hospitality, Airline, Hotel, Telecoms, Courier Services and others all have “Official Emails” which customers can use to lay their complain or rude staff, bad product, wrong credit/debit transactions, delayed flight, bad reception and every other dissatisfaction you possibly can have. Unfortunately, most customers do not realize this and only believe to get things sorted out they need to go on a shouting match with the employees of such company or at the most report to the branch manager who in most cases will only apologize to you while you are there but mock you alongside the said ‘rude staff” as you walk away. Always lay an official complaint by sending an official mail (Electronic or print) to the official email on the website and office address.

Work on yourself:
Most customers never read company rules and regulations, obey queues, avoid use of phones, carefully fill out forms or seek for advice from company staff. But the very moment things do not go their way, They begin to scream and curse all over the place and when the customer eventually realizes he / she has been wrong all along, they feel too ashamed and proud to accept their fault.

Employees do not always understand their job duties:
This is a very important thing to note that seeing someone working in a place doesn’t always guarantee that they know exactly what they are being paid to do. Most employees apart from carrying out their duties with the ‘trier and error” format usually tend to try to make the customer look ignorant while trying to hide their own incompetence.

Op you have raked for those girls immediately you heard their comment. You would create a scene and give the manager something to work on. Nairaland might not be as effective as that method.
I stated why i didn't utter a word there. They would have all laughed over it and treat it like a family issue.

I have sent a letter to their Head Office. I wanted to copy NCC but i just changed my mind to replace it with Nairaland.

Cheaper than the tariff of gsm and equally appears to be more professional for a business. i.e, 01-999300 as against 0807777999900 for an official line

op you really tried in controlling urself,i would have given it to them as they deserve because i wouldnt let it slide,i dont know whats with some ladies working as customer care representatives been rude,me go give them as e dey hot imagine the slowpoke having the audacity to say you didnt greet them first,when they wont take heed to the soft skills during training.
I intentionally didn't utter a word but rather pretended not to have heard them because my plan then and there was to report them to their head office. Wanted to go and drop a hard copy at their Victoria Island head office but the day had already gone so i sent them an email. If i had responded, they would have turned the whole story around and blame me for being rude to them.

Anyways, OP kpele, no vex too much, I don't know why many customer care agents are usually rude in naija, although I don't understand why you kept mute after letting them know why you were there, you could've reiterated that you were speaking to them, then watch what happens.

I don't entertain such without leaving them with something to think about, I hope your letter gets attention.

Btw OP, you for greet them two times just to be sure, the women were prolly tired and thinking "this guy no dey even pity person, him no even fit tell us weldone" grin
I sent a staff there sometime last week and she came back with similar feedback same with my partner about a month ago.


It is obviously a norm with them there.

When you constantly receive poor service, it is your choice to remain a customer or switch to the competition.

The bad ones will eventually die out.

Do your studies well. Even developed countries have laws protecting both customers and employee alike.

We have it in Nigeria but it is a toothless bull dog agency.

The most irritating thing is that i have made nothing less than 12 clients buy Visafone networks for their business lines.

Due to the nature of my job as a Business Development consultant, while helping and advicing clients on ways to boost that business image, part of it is getting a CDMA (landline) for their official line as against using a GSM line and i always send them to Visafone on the believe that since i have 6 of their lines they should be good enough for others.

It's reasonings like this that made them extend that crappy attitude to me. If they had been cautioned earlier on, such attitude wouldn't have played out today.


We always have this "its a nonissue" in this country and that's why things keep going down the drain.

I swear if this story gets to front page, those ladies are finished. Do not underestimate the wide outreach if NL.
They really do not deserve that job. This isn't the first or second time i have witnessed such mannerless act but hearing her comment directly made me realize those past experiences weren't just a coincidence but rather they were all intentional. I have gotten complains from my partner, employees and other people who use their service and have course to go to their office.

This Thing Called " Rude" I Can Liken It To Lack Of Home Training And Self~training. I Believe The Company Did Not Train Employee To Be Rude To Their Customers But Because They Were Born Rude Thats Why Act That Way.
But those companies spend millions of naira on a regular basis training these companies.


Running a service that helps train company staff how how to treat customers and prospects alike i know there's something we implement called "Result tracking platform" whereby we monitor the employees behaviors after such training over a period of time.


Visafone raking billions of dollars as profit can't tell me they don't carry out such training or monitoring policies.


If it was in a sane country, I would have worked out of that place and get intouch with my lawyer and the next step is to sue the company on the grounds of discrimination, emotional trauma and insult to my person.

Their CDMA makes it more useful for corporate business owners because of the "01" number instead of using gsm numbers for official lines.

Normally i would have ignored such behavior on the excuse that the workload on their staff was much that day or they were all under pressure but unfortunately their reason for their bad attitude was to my hearing. This is what happened.

I walked into the Visafone office on Adeniran Ogunsanya in Surulere, Lagos state to purchase an accessory which even though is still under warranty i didn't want to be delayed by the normal submission of purchase receipt and the rest before the item could be replaced. So i walked in and greeted generally ("Good Afternoon" ). i noticed that only the police officer in uniform sitting opposite the door responded while the 3 customer service agents seated just by the door all didn't respond. I never bothered reading meaning to it because that wasn't the reason i went there in the first place so i walked up to the counted and inquired if the accessory was available. To be greatest surprise all 3 customer service ladies pretended they didn't hear me and all ignored me. I stood there for nothing less than 3 minutes until a young man from the inner office came to attend to me, he directed me to meet another guy in the inner room, as a was going in, i overheard one of the ladies (the one in the middle saying) "He want us to attend to him when he didn't greet us."

I was so furious at that statement. first of all, i greeted when i entered which only the police man in uniform acknowledged. Secondly, it is not even my right in anyway as a customer to first greet, the reverse is actually the case. over a decade in business has thought me that even a toddler who is a customer or prospect must be highly respected so why is the rule for Visafone's agents different?

The unfortunate thing is that we have at least six of their phone we use as official lines and all of them are very active lines so it is not like they are doing me i favor. I am actually directly or indirectly paying each of those rude ladies salaries as my continuous patronage of their company means they still have a job.

I have written their office a letter through enquiry@visafone.com.ng i hope they get to read it and call all their staff across the nation to order. This was the same arrogant behavior their sister company (Zenith Bank) put up initially until the likes of GT Bank, Diamond Bank and First Bank showed them how to treat a customer.


This was the same nasty and arrogant attitude the likes of Celtel, Starcomms, Multilinks, Intercellular and Mobitel put up until they all folded up.

I pray the maagement of Visafone puts her employees to order. Every single customer is king, well at least that's the foundation i use to run my company and sink down the mind and thoughts of each employee. So the scenario of an employee being rude to any customer or prospects can't just be imagined except such employee has gotten another job elsewhere.
