UYCO: Sapele residents relocate over explosions On January 2, 2012 · In News | 2:00 am
By Emma Amaize & Godwin Oghre SAPELE— RESIDENTS of Hausa quarters and environs in Sapele, Delta State have started relocating from the area, following two explosions in less than one month for fear of being maimed or killed.
The first was at the Central Mosque on Palm Avenue Road, early, last month, in which one person was critically injured and part of the religious house shattered, and the second, few days to the New Year, at the Children Islamic School on Urhobo Road, at which about 10 pupils were injured.
However, some of the panic-stricken citizens, including the head teacher of the Islamic School, which was hit by explosive, suspected to be dynamite on December 27, Mallam Mohammed Razaq, have called on the state government and Police Command to provide adequate security for the people.
Vanguard learnt that the residents, who reside near the scenes of the two incidents, were frightened that they might be casualties next time, if they failed to move away from the area.
Mallam Razaq said the pupils, 10 of whom were injured in last Tuesday’s explosion and Muslim worshipers in Sapele needed adequate security against further bomb attack.
One of the residents, Mr. Nathaniel Onorume, living about 100 yards away from the spot of Tuesday’s explosion confirmed that inhabitants of the affected area were relocating because of the fear of future bomb attacks.
He said, “It is the second tune within a mouth that unknown persons have detonated bomb in the area. The Sapele Central Mosque, where a bomb was detonated barely a month ago is only two poles away from the Children Islamic School, where another bomb was detonated, last Tuesday night.”
A woman in her 70s, who preferred anonymity corroborated the claim of Onorume and advised security agencies to ensure that there was no further explosion in the area.
On the fate of the 10 injured pupils, Mallam Razaq said they were responding to treatment at the various hospitals.
Father of two of the wounded pupils, Alhaji Asad Mohammed, told Vanguard that his children were responding to treatment. Comments are moderated. Please keep them clean and brief. blog comments powered by Disqus>

Will there ever be peace in nigeria, huh? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! My people, lets divide this country nah to end all this evil bombardmentz antokay: 20 killed in Plateau fresh attack •Scores of houses burnt •24 hrs curfew imposed •NYSC members relocated
THE entire Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State was in mourning,
on Thursday, following a clash between the Fulani and the natives Berom, leading to the death of no fewer than 20 people, with several houses burnt.
To stem the hostilities, the state government has, therefore, imposed 24-hour curfew on the affected local government area, while members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the council had been relocated to the state capital.
The latest crisis was in connection with the clashes between the natives and the Fulanis on Monday, leading to the death of seven people and since the incident, there had been reprisal, thereby heightening tension in the council and other surrounding local government areas.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the incident got to its peak in the early hours of Monday, when the two groups confronted each other over the killing of two people in a place of worship.
It was learnt that as a result of the commotion that ensued, the two re-grouped and mobilised, leading to killings and burning of property at random, while the incident further spread out to the interior parts of the council.
In the clash, a police inspector with the police division in the council, Mr Dalyop Pindar; his wife and four children of a councillor, Mr Pam Choj, were killed and their residences set ablaze.
At the time of filing this report, the people of the area were still counting their losses, with bodies of those killed being picked at various parts of the council, while those who sustained injuries were recuperating at health centres within the local government.
The incident cut off people in the central and southern parts of the state from assessing the state capital, as a result of the curfew imposed on the area by the state government.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune by telephone, the chairman of the council, Mr Emmanuel Loman, condemned the incident, adding that security agencies had been drafted to the areas.
The Special Task Force (STF) Information and Media Officer, Captain Charles Ekeocha, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune by telephone.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Abraham Yiljap, who spoke to journalists in Jos, on Thursday, said a 24-hour curfew had been imposed on Barkin Ladi and adjoining areas.

Politics › Re: I Pray For Nigeria To Get Terribly Worse Rather Than Better by ASOROCKb(m): 12:57pm On Oct 11, 2011 |
Blackteeth: The present state of Nigeria will remain with the citizens as long as no action is taken by the people, and I don't think Nigerians will ever rise up to challange those at helm of affairs who are misleading the nation and sharing the nation's wealth among themselves. The reason is because Nigerians are suffering less and smilling more, But Nigerians need to suffer more and smile less to make them wake up. In other words, Nigerians are still in the comfort level even though they are suffering, therefore when they conisder the consequence of a revolt and the level of comfort they enjoy, the revolt option becomes a bad option.
For Nigerians to wake up they have to be in the threshold of unbearable discomfort to make them embrace the revolt needed to upstage the ugly system in Nigeria's government. That's why am praying for Nigeria to get worse. Unbearable stage=Revolution to nigerian youths. Gonna happen someday cos the hinderances will never get better to avoid ya |
