arinzeejikonye: Cool. Ebonyi is equally developing its rural infrastructures. This is good because every part of the state will develop holistically unlike states that just concentrated few infrastructures in just one tiny area of the state. |

Good job Arinze. Awka, Abakaliki, Asaba are the fastest developing cities and with modern city skylines and beautiful flyovers crisscrossing it. Other SE administrative cities should emulate the speed in gigantic infrastructural development to give it a befitting outlook. |

Politics / America Urges Nigerians To Report Irregularities At Polling Units by Asshurbanipali: 3:56pm On Feb 15, 2019 |
Report irregularities at polling units, US urges Nigerians By Unini Chioma - Feb 15, 20190 Share Tweet As the country heads for the polls on Saturday, the United States Mission in Nigeria has called on voters to report irregularities at polling units. The US said having responded to recent misrepresentation of its role in Nigeria’s elections – that the US supports the democratic process and a level playing field, and does not take the side of any party or candidate – it is important that every Nigerian should contribute to making Saturday’s election a democratic, peaceful, free and fair process. In an email to our correspondent, the US advised voters to make sure they are prepared to be ‘informed voters,’ which means knowing about the candidates to be voted for and about the voting process. The email reads, “First, get smart about the candidates on your ballot and choose who you will vote for. You can study and compare manifestos of presidential candidates. “You can review political parties’ manifestos and compare parties’ manifestos on important issues. “Then, make sure you know the voting process, so that you are prepared to participate fully and so that you can report any irregularities that happen at your polling unit.” The US Mission further said, “You can report both poll results and problems on election day. “Remember, these are your elections; make it count!” https://thenigerialawyer.com/report-irregularities-at-polling-units-us-urges-nigerians/ Lalasticlala

Politics / Body Bags: Buhari Dissociates FG From El-Rufai’s Statement On Foreigners by Asshurbanipali: 9:43pm On Feb 14, 2019 |
Elections: Buhari dissociates Nigerian govt from El-Rufai’s statement on foreign intervention President Muhammadu Buhari has disassociated the federal government from the comment made by the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai that Nigerian forces will kill foreign soldiers who intervene militarily in the country’s election matters. Mr Buhari, in a live broadcast to the nation on Thursday evening, assured members of the diplomatic community and foreign election observers of their safety and protection. “I want to assure all Nigerians, the diplomatic community and all foreign election observers of their safety and full protection. “Any comments or threats of intimidation from any source do not represent the position of the Federal Government of Nigeria,” the president said. Although the president did not mention Mr El-Rufai by name, the Kaduna governor’s statement had been criticised by many Nigerians and the opposition. “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags,” Mr El-Rufai had said. The governor’s explanation that his call was not in any way a call for violence did not deter critics from condemning it. European Union observers reacted to the statement by saying they were in the country to observe the elections at the request of the electoral commission, INEC. The presidency had also earlier defended the Kaduna governor, saying it was satisfied with his explanation. The February 16 presidential election is expected to be hotly contested, and there are fears of violence and election fraud, with the opposition repeatedly accusing the ruling party of plotting to rig the polls. On Wednesday, the national chairman of the ruling party, Adams Oshiomhole, also accused the INEC of working for the main opposition party, PDP. Mr Buhari has repeatedly committed to a free and fair poll and the presidency has warned against any attempt by other nations to meddle in the country’s internal affairs. In his Thursday broadcast to the nation, the president once again assured Nigerians that the government would ensure the elections “take place in a secured and peaceful atmosphere”. “It was indeed such free, fair and peaceful elections that made it possible for our government to emerge, despite the fact that we were contesting against a long-standing incumbent party. “ And as your president and a fellow Nigerian, I ask that you come out and queue to fulfil this important obligation you have to yourselves and your fellow citizens – and to our common future,” Mr Buhari said. The president appealed to Nigerians, especially the youth, not to take to violence during the elections. “I urge you all as good Nigerians to take up personal interest in promoting and maintaining peace in your respective neighbourhood during the elections. “This is not a time to allow personal, religious, sectional or party interest to drive us to desperation,” he said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/312976-elections-buhari-dissociates-nigerian-govt-from-el-rufais-statement-on-foreign-intervention.html 1 Like

Politics / JUST IN: 91 million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty-. THE CABLE by Asshurbanipali: 8:44pm On Feb 14, 2019 |
JUST IN: 91 million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty Over 91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, TheCable can report. TheCable understands that at least three million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019. According to the World Poverty Clock, created by Vienna-based World Data Lab, 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019. In June 2018, the Brookings Institution projected that Nigeria had overtaken India, as the poverty capital of the world, with 86.9 million extremely poor people. This was further confirmed by the British Prime Minister Theresa May, who said Nigeria had become home to the largest number of very poor people in the world, putting the figures at 87 million. “Much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy, yet 87 million Nigerians live below $1 and 90 cents a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world,” the UK prime minister had said. Since May made this observation in South Africa in August, the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty has grown to 91.16 million, with six people falling into poverty every minute, according to Brookings Institution. Today, India has 48.7 million people living in poverty, from 73 million in June 2018. By implication, India has pulled out a minimum of 24 million people from poverty in less than eight months. ARE YOU LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY? According to the World Bank, a person can be said to be living in extreme poverty, if they live below the poverty line of $1.90 or N693.5 per day. The bank in its explanation of poverty levels said “when estimating poverty using monetary measures, one may have a choice between using income or consumption as the indicator of well-being”. “Most analysts argue that, provided the information on consumption obtained from a household survey is detailed enough, consumption will be a better indicator of poverty measurement than income”. However, using the World Bank’s poverty line, if you live below $1.90 a day, you will be classified as living in extreme poverty. https://www.thecable.ng/just-in-91-million-nigerians-now-living-in-extreme-poverty/amp?__twitter_impression=true Lalasticlala
