Guys, I hope I'm nt trespassing since dis isn't my story. I didn't want to comment on dis criticism issue bt wen I saw dt my name ws mentioned a number of tyms, I grew alarmed.

While I get d fact dt u guys r trying 2 help him, comparing him with me really made me uncomfortable. Accepting criticsm in good faith is gud bt being compared with sum1 else can cut lyk a knife. I hated d tyms my parents compared me with oda kids in trying 2 get me 2 behave better (no b say I stubborn o!). I can't imagine hw I wud feel if sum1 compared my work nw with dt of Chimamanda. I go cry lyk baby.

Just saying sha. So we don't create unnecessary beef. Thanks

Since enough pple have seen faults, I'm going 2c strengths. I kinda luv ur narrative style of writing. it helps me picture a scene vividly. I also love hw u mention places like streets and areas. Lastly, I luv ur research work. I was shocked to discover dt u r actually a christian yet u write lyk a true muslim. Dt one dey plait my hair daada.

Oleng pulled up Dave's Toyota Carina in front of the house she had lived in a long time ago and sighed. They had returned back to Port Harcourt two days ago and the joy of being with Erica again prevented her from coming here earlier. She prayed inwardly that Mrs. Akpan would be at home and would know the whereabouts of her son. She got out of the car and knocked on the gate.

A young man she hadn’t seen before opened the gate. She wondered what happened to Segun.

“Yes?”

“I want to see your madam, Mrs Akpan. Is she at home?”

“Yes. She dey. Who you be?”

“Her….” Oleng stopped and shook inwardly before she continued. That woman wasn’t her mother. “Tell her Mrs. Oleng Sokari wants to see her.”

“Okay.” he replied and shut the gate before running to the house.

He came back and told her to come in.

“Thank you.” she said and walked towards the house.

She didn’t know why she was so nervous. It had been years since she last saw the woman. She noticed slight changes around the house. She got to the door and rang the door bell.

“I knew you were going to come. Come in.” her supposed mother said after studying her for a while when she opened the door.

Oleng took a deep breath and walked in. She followed the woman to the living room. Things had changed so much but she was surprised to see her mother still looking beautiful. Life for her must have been very good, she mused. She however noticed that she had lost weight and now had a big stomach. Or was she pregnant?

“Take a seat. What would you take?” she asked flippantly.

“Nothing. Thank you.” she politely answered and sat down.

Her mother shrugged and sat down away from her.

“Why did you say you knew I was going to come?”

Mrs. Akpan shrugged carelessly. “Vivien called me, weeping like a baby. She told me she’d finally told you about the adoption.”

Oleng just stared at her.

“I’m sorry about your late husband. If we had been communicating, I wouldn’t have allowed you to marry him. Anyway, that’s in the past now. How are Eric and your daughter, Erica?”

Oleng was too bewildered for words. “You…You know about Erica?”

Mrs. Akpan smiled ruefully. “I know everything about you. I’ve been watching you for some years now.”

“Why?” was all she could say.

“Curiosity maybe. Just wanted to find out how you turned out.”

“I can’t believe this.” Oleng was dumbfounded. “You planned with the doctor and nurses and your sister to tell me my baby died. For years I thought the baby destroyed my womb rendering me barren. Yet you knew he didn’t die. Why didn’t you tell me about the adoption when you knew I was looking for a child since you’ve been monitoring me?”

Her mother shrugged again nonchalantly. “Because you were with that loser who didn’t deserve you.”

“Don’t say bad things about my late husband!”Oleng stood up angrily. “You’re worse than a snake. Why did you give birth to me? Why did God put me in your cursed womb? You’re the type of woman who is supposed to remain barren all her life. You’re not fit to be a mother.” she delivered curtly.
Her frustration over not finding her son bursting forth.

“You ingrate!” Her mother stood up in anger. “After everything I did for you. I gave up that child, my own grandchild to give you a future. Do you think you would be where you are today if you had been saddled with the bastard.”

Oleng fired back. “Don’t you dare call my child a bastard. Eric and I wanted him and if you hadn’t meddled in our lives, he would have been with us now. Why are you so cruel?”

“Cruel?" She laughed without mirth. "You don’t know the meaning of the word but I’ll soon tell you.”

“If I find out that my son is dead or if I never find him, I’ll make you pay. I promise.” Oleng launched back at her in cold fury.

“You’ll never find him.” she declared jeeringly.

“We shall see.” Oleng retorted sharply and walked towards the door.

“Oleng,” her mother called when she got to the door but she didn’t turn around.

“Whatever I did, I did for you. I wanted the best for you.”

Oleng yanked the door open and rushed out. She regretted coming.

When the gateman saw the way she ran out of the house, he quickly went to open the gate.

Sincerely speaking I was for another thread to vote on that contest thread when I discovered your name being repeatedly voted for yesterday and I must confess that you are the 3rd writer to have "really" wowed me after madness.com & kayemjay; the former is a pro in the use of pidgin flawlessly & captivatingly in telling his story (though he have a penchant for tardiness and inconsistencies) while the latter is the best so far in action,crime& thriller stuffs. You are my 3rd discovery.

Note: I don't read many stories on here, I'd just read quite a handful nd so many writers have my respect but you just took my breath away and couldn't leave my phone since yesterday.
