People talk about Decree 34, but no where in that decree did Ironsi tamper with the boundaries of the 4 Regions of the time, nor deny them full resource control. In other words, all 4 Regions existed with fiscal federalism during Ironsi's time

When Gowon came in, he had a problem. More than 10 officers were senior to him, including Ojukwu. Gowon met with Ojukwu in Aburi Ghana and signed a 12 point agreement, one of which was that he would not change the 4 Regional structure of Nigeria unless all 4 Regional military Governors of the time unanimously agreed he should do so

But what dud Gowon do when the returned from Ghana? He promulgated Decree 14 of 1967 which abolished all 4 Regions Nigeria had, and replaced them with 12 new states

Gowon immediately followed this up with Decree 15 which ended resource control, and put all resources in the hands of the federal government

In retaliation for breaking the Aburi agreement, Ojukwu declared Biafra

Ademoyega summarized it thus: "Biafran entry into the Midwest was seen by the people, especially the non-Ibos of the State, as an act of foreign aggression."

This decree was passed by Gowon to steer Nigeria away from the Zikist Decree 34 passed by Ironsi.

Decree 8 was meant to undo the harm known as Decree 34 aka Heebo by force Unity begging decree


This decree called for decentralisation as was the case prior to the Heebo coup of Jan 15, 1966 that saw to the unity begging decree 34.

But one good aspect of this coup was the creation of regional armies.

Ojukwu flatly rejected this clause and any talk of returning Nigeria back to the Richardson constitutional arrangement.

Like the commie bastard he was, Ojukwu preferred a centrist arrangement with a powerful central govt which controlled the military.


When this decree was proposed by Gowon and supported by the northern , western and Midwestern military heads, only Ojukwu refused any talk of going back to pre Ironsi template. Ojukwu was however more angered by regional armies .

So why are Ibos of today claiming Ojukwu wanted a return back to the original regional arrangement whereas he vehmently opposed the more autonomous Decree 8 ?

They falsely claim that their position in Aburi dictated a return to federalism. This is a blatant big lie. Their position in Aburi was that Gowon return the carved out SS states of then old Rivers (modern day Rivers & Bayelsa) and old Cross River (modern day Akwa Ibom and Cross River) back to the eastern region.

Note that the Zikist and Zionists in Enugu wanted Gowon to rescind the carving out of these non Ibo regions.


Another particular reason why Ojukwu opposed Decree 8 was because the Midwest at the time was the least armed and was populated by Igboid soldeirs who supported Biafra.

Any talk of granting seperate military autonomy to Midwest would have seen the Midwest as a natural barrier and buffer zone to their Zikist ambitions in reclaiming power and seizing Lagos.

So when this decree came into effect, Ojukwu launched his infamous invasion of the Midwest and from there appointed a Biafran apologist Igboid officer to be it's military Governor. A few weeks later, fearing an inevitable counter invasion by Nigerian forces, Ojukwu will declare the Midwest an independent nation.

The more you delve into the real history of the civil war , the more you see how the Zikist and Zionists in Ojukwu's war cabinet in Enugu remain villains and also the architects of all our present woes.
