The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has urged the 1544 corps members 2021 Batch C stream I corps members to practice what they have been taught through the scheme.

She made this call while addressing the corps members at the low-key swearing in ceremony of the Batch at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday.

Mrs Winifred, in her speech, congratulated the gentlemen corps members on no longer been PCMs and moving on to the next level of their NYSC journey. She mentioned that at the time of the swearing in, a total of 1,544 corps members have been registered comprising 766 males and 778 females.

Laying out the objectives and aim of the NYSC scheme for the corps members, she stated that the scheme instills leadership and provides an avenue for raising the moral tone and imbuing self reliance in the members. According to her, the regimented orientation course aids in the achievement of these aims.

Furthermore, she enjoined the corps members to shun religious intolerance and ethnic bigotry, seeing that participants are from different religious backgrounds and ethnic groups and therefore all must work as team to ensure the needed integration and unity are forged.

"I urge you to take the orientation programme seriously. Make up your minds to participate actively in camp activities and interplatoon competitions which will help them develop life skills such as interpersonal skills" she added

Speaking on the numerous opportunities inherent in the scheme, Shokpeka called on the members to leverage on the platforms of the skill acquisition programme to empower themselves and also build life changing relationships with people from States and Geo-political zones other than their own.

She charged them to take their health seriously and ensure strict adherence to every COVID-19 protocols.

The National pledge and oath of allegiance were administered on the corps members by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo who was represented by Justice Adedoja Olayinka Ayoola.

In a related development, the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka took time to address female corps members after the swearing in. She enjoined them to live above board and carry themselves with dignity in their dealings with one another and with the opposite sex.

Chief Ayoade Ojetade had enlightened corps members on the norms and traditions of the Yoruba people, a knowledge needed for their successful stay in the State.

He stated this while delivering the traditional lecture at the 2021 Batch C stream l orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday.

He spoke about the Origin of the Yoruba people and how they were the descendants of Ile-Ife. He further cited places where Yoruba people are found around the globe, places such as the South-west in Nigeria; in African countries like Jamaica and Togo; in Foreign Countries like Europe to mention but a few.

He highlighted that the Yorubas have three known Religion. Christianity, Islam and the traditional worshippers. They are also believed to have about four hundred and one deities. While the lesser gods such as Obatala, Esu, Osun etc are referred to as Orisa, the only Supreme being is usually referred to as Olodumare.

While speaking, he explained why Yoruba language may sound alike but have different meanings mentioning several examples like Okò as in Hoe, Okó as in Car. Furthermore, he talked about the marriage ceremony, the different type of music, the type of food they eat, the market system, the arts, occupations, textile and symbolism of the facial marks in Yorubaland.

Chief Ojetade also touched on the taboos in some places in the State which according to him are almost non-existent due to the friendly and hospitable nature of the people of the State. But he warned corps members against going foul of the laid down rules in their host communities.

"A female must not watch an Oró Performance whenever and wherever it is being observed, it is a taboo" he stressed.

Ojetade commended the scheme for incorporating the traditional lecture into the orientation program as this according to him, will prepare them adequately for the service year and will help them to integrate well with their host community.Chief Ayoade Ojetade had enlightened corps members on the norms and traditions of the Yoruba people, a knowledge needed for their successful stay in the State.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has charged the 1650 prospective corps members deployed to the State to embrace skill acquisition as the answer to the problem of unemployment and underemployment.

She gave the charge at the opening ceremony and Flag off of the skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development in-camp training at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday. Citing examples of ex-corps members and serving corps members who cut out a niche for themselves through the skills they learned in SAED, encouraged the members to embrace the program with all sincerity and commitment so they can be self reliant.

She enlightened the corps members on the origin of the program, its objectives, divisions and further told them that registration for the in-camp training with trainers is free.

According to her, the scheme through the SAED program has succeeded in training thousands of Corps members in various skills and that many today have become employers of labour rather than jib seekers.

Earlier, th Head of SAED, Mr Aleshinloye Adeniyi admonished the members to key into the program and ensure they see it through to perfection. He urged them to participate actively in both the in-camp and post camp training so as to become experts in their chosen skills.

Mr Adeniyi also charged them to take their Entrepreneurship Development lecture seriously so as to be able to write good business plans.

Also speaking at the event, Mr Oduyebo Olusegun motivated the PCMs on the need to be responsible as it is the price for greatness. He told them that they are all solution providers and the answers to the problems plaguing the country and the continent, at large.

He admonished the PCMs to acquire knowledge and then went further to point out the scopes of knowledge which are majorly: Generalised knowledge and Specialised knowledge(skills) with the latter having two branches which are life skills and professional/occupational skills. “Do not be confined by your institution but make efforts to properly internalise the knowledge you have sought after. You must do this, because men become better, useful and glorious through internalised knowledge.

Take responsibility for who you want to become and work towards that. WORK ON YOURSELF. ” He concluded.

In a related development, the representative of the National Directorate of Employment, Mr Oyekanmi Razaq has called upon prospective corps members to embrace a mindset of planned action as they plan kick-starting their entrepreneurial journey.

This he said while delivering the Entrepreneurship Development program lecture to the prospective corps members with the aid of the NYSC Small Business Starter Workbook.

He expressed the difficulty attached to obtaining business loans in Nigeria without a feasible, well-rounded business plan, which the NYSC has been fixing through the EDP initiative.In his words, "successful entrepreneurs are differentiated from business owners because of their calculated risk-taking, creativity, perseverance, innovative, and positive mindsets.

"Furthermore, he discussed the key entrepreneurial qualities necessary for efficiently managing an entity seeking to offer a service that consumers need and for which they are willing to pay.

"The ability to set goals, commit towards the course of the business, persistence, financial discipline and self-confidence are key qualities that make a good manager, " he added.

Correspondingly, Mr Jimoh Adisa, the Osogbo Branch Manager of Unity Bank together with Bukola Kareem, the Bank's Relationship Officer sensitized the PCMs on the Corpreneurship Grant and Allawee Challenges, a program organised for selected States as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Mr Jimoh stated that the initiative is geared towards instiling a Savings culture in the members and also assisting in providing the needed capital to start off on their entrepreneurial journey.

The Corpreneurship Grant challenge seeks to reward PCMs with well thought-out business proposals with cash grants ranging from #500,000, #300,000, and #200,000, as well as consolation prizes for other participants. They urge corps members to beware of fraud and not compromise their security credentials by furnishing them to unauthorized persons.

Dr. Ememobong Bassey Udoh, with state code number OS/20B/0031 serving with the Engineer Construction Command Medical Reception Station (ECC MRS), Ede has constructed a General Outpatient Department and remodeled the office of the Regimental Medical Officer at the Engineer Construction Command Medical Reception Station, Ede, Osun State.

According to Dr Emem, the need to impact positively upon her host community as they were taught during her three weeks orientation programme propelled her to identify the felt need of her host community and work toward eradicating the problem.

“I tried to identify the felt need of the barrack community where I served. I was able to identify several problems in the community but one struck me the most.

"Patients who are already ill and are supposed to attain the sick role come to the clinic for consultation but despite their sick role, they have no comfortable place to sit and even worse, they have to move from one point to another as the nursing station, records unit, pharmacy and consulting rooms were miles apart.

"This led to the conception of the idea of getting a shade for my patients and easing their stress when they visit the medical facility”, she stated.

Furthermore, speaking on the budget for the construction, she said a sum of
N1,693,550 (One million, six hundred and ninety three thousand, five hundred and fifty naira) only was budgeted for the project which she successfully mobilised from the barrack community, friends of the barracks, friends and people who believed in her and her vision.

At the commissioning she expressed her gratitude to God and the people of the community who supported the project in both kind and cash.

“This seemed like an Herculean task to me but my optimism and tenacity pushed beyond the boundaries and vaulted me into achieving my goal. I really appreciate the entire barrack community for their support ".

Like every great dream, one of the barriers is usually funding and she stated how much of a barrier she met considering the robust budget she had.

“This was not so easy considering the state of the economy and inflation of prices of goods and services. However, the funding of this noble project was from the barrack community, friends of the barrack, friends and well wishers. Some supported with cash, some with building materials and some with both building materials and money. This taught me a lesson; that no matter how hard things are, there will always be people to support a good cause.”

Clearly, in her words, she "found people whose hearts beats for a change just like myself" .

She went on to speak on the project execution which unplanned by her, happened in a space of one month and so her decisions had to be precise.

“It was physically and financially demanding but with resilience and determination, it was executed and the aim of its establishment fulfilled.
And today, we have a befitting General Outpatient Department and The Office of The Regimental Medical Officer at The Engineer Construction Command, Medical Reception Station, Ede to the service of humanity and to the Glory of God".

“It was indeed a privilege, I loved the challenge and I would do this over and over again because it would be yet another chance to impact lives and the common at large”, she concluded.

In conclusion, she stated that the Community Development Service is one of the four (4) cardinal programmes of the NYSC and she is thankful for the privilege to have contributed her own quota to the development of the barrack community where she served.

Speaking at the commissioning on Monday 18th October, the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka who was represented by the Assistant Director Community Development Service, Mr Felix Ayibiowu, lauded the contributions of Dr Emem who hails from Akwa-Ibom, toward the betterment of the lives of the people of her host community.

"you have this day made the scheme, your family and the nation proud. This is a true display of your selflessness, humility and commitment to humanity" he said.

In his remarks, the Ag. Commander ECC Nigeria Army Ede, Lt. Col. I. Ó Erhabor commended the NYSC scheme for the training given to graduate youths in the country that has recalibrated their mindset to a patriotic, selfless and humanitarian one. He called for more support for the scheme for her to keep doing the good works it has been known for since its establishment.

Two Corps members by the names Egwu Priscilla OS/20B/1077 and Musa Rasheed Osaze OS/20B/0639 have seized advantage of their environment and knowledge gotten from the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program (SAED) training to embark on crop farming in Igbajo town, Boluwaduro Local Government.

According to the corps members, the project, which they began in April 2021, was borne out of the fact that, “agriculture is one of the major sources of sustenance in Nigeria”. They informed that they had joined the Agricultural SAED group during the orientation camp, where they gained knowledge of crop farming and later decided to collaborate and pursue their interest in it.

“We decided to go into it because of the love we have for agriculture and the way we were taught during SAED while in camp”.

They further stated that, having gone through careful research and acquisition of suitable land, they chose the aspect of cultivation of cash crops on the four acres of land they acquired on lease for three years in the locality. They cultivated maize, cassava, tomatoes and okra.

According to them, fifty percent of the cultivation was done by them and the rest hired out. They pointed out that the project was not without challenges, mostly due to lack of fertilizers, cost of labor and raw materials, but despite these, the crops enjoyed a rich amount of rainfall and they were able to harvest all, except for cassava, in the month of September.

They didn’t stop at harvesting, but went ahead to make an enterprise from it. In their words, “The harvested crops were sold to the local market close to us”.

Speaking on the SAED program, the duo encouraged Corps members around them to key into the program in order to make a living for themselves during and after the service year. They further encouraged them to take advantage of the agricultural sector with its vastness and varied opportunities inherent in it.

They also stated that the State is blessed with very fertile land which makes it easier for cash crops and other crops to grow well.
The duo went into farming in April and as at today they have started enjoying the fruit of their harvest.

The Osun State Coordinator has briefed the prospective corps members of the 2021 Batch C stream I on the cardinal programmes, objectives and vision of the NYSC scheme.

The briefing took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp,Ede on Sunday.

The State Coordinator began her speech by educating PCMs on the objectives of the scheme which includes inculcating discipline in Youths, raising the moral tone of the Nigerian youth and contributing to the accelerated growth of the national economy.

She highlighted the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC to be: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS) and Winding up and Passing Out Parade (POP).

While speaking, She sentisized the PCMs on the NYSC posting policy which specifies four major areas of our National needs. These are: Education, Health, Agriculture and Infrastructure.

She reiterated on the fact that Postings and Relocations in NYSC are free and warned PCMs against lobbying or paying anybody for any of these.

Furthermore, she urged them to adhere strictly to the Orientation guidelines and ensure active participation in Military drills, meditation, Swearing in rehearsals, SAED lectures, Man o war and Social activities. She equally urged them to stick to the COVID-19 protocols as prescribed by NCDC and the scheme.

Speaking on time management, she encouraged PCMs to be time conscious stating the stipulated time for activities in Camp. “Set your alarms to prepare yourself on time, you are youths and hence possess the agility and strength.”

She enlightened them also relocation, its types and the criteria for relocation under the two categories mentioned during the briefing namely : marital and health grounds. She urged the members to take their health seriously and ensure they seek help when needed.

In her closing statement, she laid emphasis on PCMs traveling without the necessary authorization and enjoined them to obtain the permission of the appropriate authorities before travelling and urged them to desist from night travels and outings. She congratulated PCMs once again encouraging them to do their best while reminding them that Excellence in service pays. She prayed for the PCMs wishing them a successful service year.

The rally which held on Sunday was to sensitize Prospective Corps Members on the Importance of acquiring a skill for self-reliance and wealth creation.

The rally, led by Mr Aleshinloye Adeniyi the Head of SAED, took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede and had in attendance staff of the Branch and selected prospective corps members called the SAED Ambassadors.

Mr Aleshinloye said the rational behind the campaign is the creation of an awareness of the program and the different skillset ahead of Monday's opening ceremony.

"We want them to know the rudimentary values of SAED. We had embarked on this from last week and the event will kick start on Monday being the day it will start nationally.

"It would be remembered that SAED was created in 2012 by NYSC national body to reduce unemployment rate in the country. It's meant to make not only the PCMs but the youths to be self-reliant.

"SAED has 12 sectors with 80 sub-sectors. For example, in Food Processing, we have bakery, cake making, small chops, beverages among others.

"All Corps members are entitled to it and even expected to learn a skill under SAED.

"As a PCM if you want to learn any of our programme we have competent trainers to help you through. And NYSC is not just leaving you alone, we have collaborations with agencies both national and international to avail the needed capital to help start with the likes of CBN and BOI. They are ready to give you a substantial amount of money to start your business. By so doing you won't need to be looking here and there after acquisition of the skill" she added.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka, has aired the importance of creatively having fun to the 2021 Batch C Stream I prospective corps members.

She made this known while declaring the Social Night open at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Saturday.

According to her, the importance of social events like this lies in how powerful they are as potent tools in uniting and connecting all interests in a relaxed atmosphere.

In her words "the Social Night is important to the NYSC family because it brings all members of the NYSC family together to create new social relationships and foster existing ones".

In concluding her address and declaring the night open, she  enjoined the PCMs to catch fun intelligently and responsibly in line with camp rules and regulations.

The event, enjoyed by all NYSC officials and PCMs alike was filled with a line up of activities ranging from opening the floor led by the Camp Director ably supported by the entire Camp Officials to the delight of the PCMs. dance competitions among the platoons and squid games.

The night ended with a dance-all.

The NYSC Osun State Servicom Desk Officer, Mr Fagbemi Olugbenga has sensitized the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 prospective corps members on Servicom and the role of the corps members in ensuring effective service delivery during the service year.

According to Mr Fagbemi, Servicom was created to address the issues of inefficiencies within the ranks of civil servants.

It also promotes and champions excellent service delivery in order to make life easier for the populace.

He highlighted the core values of the NYSC as patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment and teamwork, and encouraged PCMs to keep doing good because God has a way of rewarding those who do good works.

"The essence of SERVICOM is to foster positive values in the communities that you are posted to," he added.

He concluded by urging PCMs to be dedicated and efficient in service by consulting professionals and experts for more information, as well as respecting constituted authorities.

Dr Kameel Aramide, a medical consultant, has told the 2021 Batch C stream I prospective corps members that the state of their health is a priority and it's their duty to maintain it.

He made this known while addressing the prospective corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Friday.

While speaking, he enlightened the PCMs on Blood Pressure and Hypertension, stating the types, causes and preventions. According to him, the causes of hypertension include: a sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, junk food, smoking, large intake of alcohol, among others. He also said hypertension can be hereditary and therefore people with a family history of such should guide against it by watching their lifestyle and diet.

Furthermore, he listed out ways in which hypertension and high blood pressure can be prevented. Such ways as healthy eating eating, regular exercise and avoiding intake of alcohol and smoking.

Meanwhile, the Camp Director, Mrs Funmi Okundaye has enjoined the PCMs to imbibe the spirit of unity and oneness and also ensure that they have team spirit amongst themselves.

She highlighted that they are most privileged to be in Osun State camp as it is a '5-Star' camp. She advised them to maintain the serenity and cleanliness of the camp premises at all times.

She reminded PCMs to always abide by the COVID-19 protocols and camp rules and also led them in taking the charge.

In a related development, Mr Adeniyi Aleshinloye, the Head of SAED, introduced PCMs to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program, teaching them the SAED slogan, "SAED- CORPS MEMBERS CREATING WEALTH", and listing out the various skills to be learnt, which includes: Agro-allied, Automobile, Cosmetology, Film and Photography, etc.

The meditation ended with series of aerobic exercise led by the Man 'O War and a meditation on the topic' Purpose of Orientation' written by the ACPRO and read by the OBS.

TOPIC : PURPOSE OF THE ORIENTATION
It is a popular saying that when the purpose of a thing is not known abuse is inevitable. Little wonder why organisations, groups and nations attach great credence and importance to orientation, as it lays the foundation for the achievement of set goals and objectives and births efficiency and effectiveness.

The NYSC program was set up by the Government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation building and development and to foster national unity and cohesion. To achieve these lofty ideals there is indeed a need for proper orientation.

This is why every service year begins with the orientation course followed by the primary assignment, secondary assignment and the winding up and passing out.
Many have asked why the orientation? It is needful to state that lack of orientation breeds fear, anxiety, suspicion and lack of confidence on the part of a new member or employee but proper orientation gives guidance and breeds confidence, understanding, effective communication, team spirit, productivity, among others.

In NYSC, , the three weeks orientation course which is the first phase of the one year mandatory service is sacrosanct to the achievement of the objective, vision and mission of the NYSC and also lays the foundation for a successful service year for corps members. It exposes and gives corps members better understanding of the scheme and acquaints them with the environment of their posting.

It is the platform that makes discipline, raising of the moral tone of members, acquisition of self reliance, national integration and the development of a corporate existence possible. It also helps to prepare corps members for their unique roles in the society equipping them with practical, social and leadership skills.

In view of the immense benefits derivable from the orientation course, I urge you, gentlemen corps members, to embrace and leverage on the programmes and trainings packaged into the orientation to become the man and woman of your dreams.

Before the crown comes the cross; before a gain comes the pain, therefore, as you go through the regimented orientation let endurance and optimism be your watchword.

The National Youth Service Corps Osun State has discharged a total of 1091 corps members who have satisfactorily completed the one year mandatory service to the fatherland for the 2020 Batch B Stream 1a and 1b service year.

The low key ceremony which took place on Thursday across the 30 local government areas of the State and 1 area office saw the excited members displaying their discharge certificates and eulogising the NYSC for the privilege to serve and for the various platforms provided for them to grow.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka expressed her profound gratitude to God for the successful voyage of the members through the state and also commended the members for comporting themselves as true ambassadors of the Scheme, their families and their States.

"I felicitate with you this day on your successful completion of the service year. Your conduct during the orientation, at your place of primary assignments and in your community development service group is highly commendable.

" your reports are very satisfactory thereby qualifying you for the fourth and last phase of the service year which we all are witnessing today.

" Reports of your selflessness, devotion to duty and resilience has reached me. Some of you left legacies in your places of primary assignments through the group and individual projects embarked upon thereby projecting the image and relevance of the Scheme. We say thank you.

"indeed you came, you saw and you conquered. I wish you the very best in life", she added.

In an interview with some of the Corps members, they could not hide their joy as they were seen displaying their certificates and taking selfies with the friends they made during the course of the service year.

“I really thank God for the success of my service year in this precious and rich land of Osun State. God has blessed me with a lot since the beginning of my service year up until now” corps member Rebecca Isaiah said.

“I’ll surely miss this land and it’s people. This state has blessed me with amazing people I’ll cherish for the rest of my life” says Akerele Deborah.

Ribadu Kayode said that “Although I had no prior plans of staying in Osun State for my NYSC Service, but now, I’m glad I didn’t miss out on the golden treasure of people I met in this State".

A total number of 4 abscondees were recorded for the stream and 12 corps members had their service year extended.

Corps members serving in Òkè-ìlà community in Ifedayo local government area have put smiles on the faces of the people of the community by refurbishing two long abandoned boreholes in the community.

The project which was carried out on Thursday was commissioned by the Orangun of Òkè-Ila, HRM, Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin.

Ọba Abolarin commended the Corps members for their selfless contribution to the community stating that their presence has always been a great source of motivation and inspiration for the youths and children in the community.

"you have indeed shown to me and my people that the NYSC Scheme is not a sham and that your training was indeed worthwhile.

" aside your imparting knowledge in our children in the classrooms, you have surprised us further by working towards making portable water available for our people. You have done well", he said.

Ọba Abolarin added that the people had given up hope of ever getting portable water from the boreholes because it had been abandoned for a very long time. He appreciated the scheme for believing in the unity of the nation and working towards achieving it.

"most of the Corps members who have carried out one project or the other are mostly from different states, tribes and climes but the scheme succeeds in bringing them together and they as a team work in harmonious symphony to achieve the mandates of the NYSC".

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, who was represented by the Local Government Inspector, Mr Oniye Damilare appreciated the Orangun of Oke-Ila and the good people of the community for the warm reception accorded the corps members when they first resumed, this, according to him, had made them feel at home in the community.

He stated that based on the training recieved by the members, it was expedient for them to reciprocate the hospitality of the people by leaving a positive landmark such as they had done.

The programme also had in attendance the LGIs of Ejigbo and Isokan local government, Mr Akin Owoseni and Mr Rotimi Onatade respectively.

In accordance with the directives of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, NYSC Osun has on Wednesday welcomed the first set of prospective corps members for the 2021 Batch C stream 1 orientation exercise.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, expressed her delight with the safe arrival of the prospective corps members, whilst giving glory to God for journey mercies granted them from far and near. She further expressed elation at being a part of the process of raising a generation of responsible youths.

She admonished the members to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols of regular handwashing, social distancing and appropriate use of the nose mask. She also encouraged them to be vaccinated if they are yet to do so as this will safeguard them against the Delta variant of the corona virus. She urged the new members to be open-minded to learn new things and to ask questions when in doubt.

She enjoined them to imbibe discipline and security consciousness, perseverance and hardwork as it will be of tremendous help during and after the orientation exercise. She wished them a memorable orientation experience as they proceed with their registration.

The camp officials were not left out of the activities as they carried out their functions at their duty posts, ensuring a smooth start to camp life. The registration process started with the washing of hands at the entrance of the gate before proceeding to the security stand where screening for contraband is conducted, before they proceed to the disinfectant tunnel mounted at the entrance into the camp; after which they undergo the mandatory rapid diagnostic test and vital signs screening; documents verification; platoon registration and hostel allocations all followed in quick succession.

Camp officials for the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation Course have been charged to imbibe team spirit in the discharge of their duties.

The charge was given by the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka at the maiden meeting with camp officials at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ede on Tuesday, in preparation for the orientation course commencing on Wednesday.

In her opening speech, Shokpeka told the camp officials that for every assignment that they will be engaging themselves in, they must have a clear understanding of why they are there.

"Articulate your purpose for being here, understand and internalise it with your team" she added.

She enjoined camp officials to operate with excellence and team spirit as there is no 'I' in the word 'TEAM' . She told them also that the mantra for the orientation programme is operation compliance, stating that all hands must clear the deck in instiling discipline and unarguable compliance to laid down rules and regulations on camp as prescribed by the Directorate Headquarters Abuja and the NCDC.

Speaking on security, she charged officials to be their brother's keeper by watching out for one another and to also speak up should they notice any abnormality around them. She told them to be security conscious at all times and step down same mindset to the prospective corps members as they report to the orientation camp.

She warned against oversocialising with the corps members as this might serve as an hindrance to the achievement of the objectives of the orientation programme. She charged them to be friendly but firm when relating with the members.

"the corps members are your sons and daughters, therefore what you would not do to your children do not do to them. Let us work together to ensure we train these corps members to be better Nigerians that we all can be proud of.

" let us also learn to correct them in love", she added.

She commended camp officials for complying with the NCDC protocol of taking the mandatory COVID-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test before entering the camp.

Correspondingly, the Camp Director, Mrs Funmi Okundaye, in her brief said that the aim of the orientation is to develop the youths to become better members of the society. She went on to further buttress that the camp is regimented for both corps members and camp officials as well.

She advised camp officials to maximize time allocated to each activity, observe COVID-19 protocols and ensure that the welfare of the corps members are their sole priority. "It will take a collective effort to make it work, we should all encourage ourselves" she said.

The Camp Commandant, Capt. Oyekanmi O, in his brief called on officials to see themselves as one and cooperate together to achieve the holistic training and grooming of the corps members deployed to the State. He assured the state coordinator of his men's readiness to implement the scheme's objectives for the orientation programme without cruelty or bias.

Speaking, the Resident Officer, Mr Adedotun Adegboyega appealed to the camp officials to be objective and not lose focus of their duties, as he prayed for a seamless exercise.

In his vote of thanks, the deputy camp director, Mr Ajayi Wahid, appreciated the state coordinator and assured her of the commitment of all camp officials to man their duty post and also effect the orientation mantra of operation compliance.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has admonished heads of committees and collaborating agencies on proper ethics for the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 orientation course, stating that the essence of their being on camp is to raise a generation of responsible youths.

The meeting which took place on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, had in attendance the Camp Director, Mrs Funmi Okundaye, Camp Commandant, Captain Oyekanmi O, other heads of assignments and heads of collaborating agencies on camp.

Mrs Shokpeka welcomed the Principal officers stating that the purpose of the meeting at the commencement of the orientation is to forge a familial relationship among the various heads right from the onset and to also discuss the responsibilities and expectations of each committee ahead of the general meeting.

She read out the ground rules to ensure the smooth running of activities stating that all should work towards achieving excellence in their beats. She further stated that the scheme has declared zero tolerance to wrong and deviant dressing by officials and corps members alike. She therefore called on the heads to work as a team and ensure strict compliance to camp rules by all course participants.


Furthermore, she added that all corps members must adhere to proper dressing and should be encouraged to participate fully in lectures and other camp activities. She also enjoined the camp commandant and other security heads to collaborate with NYSC officials in ensuring that restrictions are placed on visitations from outside the camp, in strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.


Finally, she called on officials to imbibe discipline and team spirit as leaders if they must lead well and that they should enlighten and train members of their committees toward efficiency, effectiveness and productivity even as the orientation course commences.

The National Youth Service Corps Osun State had on Monday fumigated the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede in preparation for the 2021 Batch C stream I orientation course.

The fumigation which came on the heels of the decontamination of the camp by the State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation was to rid the camp of reptiles, mosquitoes, flies and other insects that could course harm to course participants.

According to the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, the decontamination carried out earlier was to rid the camp of viruses to forestall the outbreak of the corona virus while the rigorous fumigation carried out was to get rid of reptiles and harmful insects which may threaten the wellbeing of course participants.

Shokpeka stressed that the welfare of prospective corps members and the creation of a very conducive and safe environment for all are sacrosanct to the scheme's management.

She made it known that the fumigation covered every nook and cranny of the orientation camp, including: the kitchen, hostels, toilets, and the entire camp environment.

The State Coordinator also wished all prospective corps members deployed to the State and other States of the federation, including FCT, God's speed as they journey to their various orientation camps.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka has charged the members of staff to employ the tools of efficiency and effectiveness in the discharge of their duties.

Shokpeka gave the charge during her maiden meeting with the management and members of staff ahead of the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation Course at the State Secretariat in Osogbo on Monday.

She enjoined the members of staff to embrace self development and always be prepared for a higher responsibility. Shokpeka, a staunch believer in the training and grooming of people urged all present to leverage on the various platforms and opportunities made available by the scheme to enhance their efficiency, effectiveness and productivity on the job.

Mrs Shokpeka harped on the need for strict adherence to prescribed camp rules and the COVID-19 protocols. She asserted that to lead right, officials must lead by example as this is the only way to instill right values in corps members.

Speaking on the use of the social media, the state coordinator called on all officials to commit to the responsibility of enlightening and guiding corps members on the right use of the social media, warning them against the dangers inherent in the proliferation of fake news.

Also on the prescribed dress code for NYSC members, Shokpeka said the scheme's management has taken a bold stand on ensuring the right values and morals are instilled in the graduate youths. She urged members of staff and corps members to dress in a manner that commands respect stressing that the Director General has an aversion for wrong dressing. She also added that the scheme henceforth will not entertain wrong dressings from her members.

She further emphasised on the need for officials to be security conscious as security has become very precarious in the present society. She spelt out the duties and expectations from each of the committees and called on all to work as a team so success can be achieved. She concluded by introducing the camp director for the 2021 Batch C orientation course.

Speaking at the meeting, the camp director, Mrs Funmi Okundaye enlightened members of staff on the highlights and resolutions reached at the Pre-orientation workshop which took place in Abuja recently. She touched on key areas such as the commencement and cut off date for registration, swearing in date, lectures, welfare of Corps members on camp, need to maintain a healthy and serene environment, social activities, motivation for hardworking officials, among other topical issues in readiness for the forthcoming orientation course.

Other heads of committees took turns to educate staff on the requirements of their committees and the need to be disciplined, loyal and dedicated to their duties. They all chorused on the importance of team spirit as an essential virtue in the achievement of success.

Highlights of the meeting included the welcoming and reading of the profile of the new state coordinator and also the introduction of the newly transferred Accountant, Mrs Daramola Adeola.

In a related development, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Saturday sensitized camp marketers ahead of the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation Course. The sensitisation which took place at the Permanent Orientation Camp Ede was carried out by Mr Ayoola Ademola.

Ademola sensitised the marketers on the need to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols of regular handwashing, social distancing, proper use of the nose mask and maintaining a healthy environment. He further stressed that the marketers and all course participants will be made to go through the mandatory Rapid Diagnostic Test before being allowed in to the camp.

The outgoing 2020 Batch B Corps Members of the Editorial board cds group has held a thanksgiving service to appreciate God for a successful service year.

The thanksgiving service, held on Sunday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Next level chapel, Osogbo, witnessed a great show of gratitude as all outgoing members of the Editorial Board thanked God for a successful service year.

They came out in their numbers appreciating God in worship, praises and dancing for life, grace and strength to have gone through the NYSC service year and now seeing the end of it.

The outgone Editor in Chief of the Editorial Board, Ofure Ehizogie, appreciated God in his speech and thanked Him for the testimony of concluding the service year safety.

“We came to serve our nation, not knowing anyone, but we now have brothers and sisters here. God has kept and preserved us all through our time in the service to the Editorial board as well as to NYSC. It has been Him all along” - he added.

The thanksgiving ended with the parish pastor showering blessings upon the Corps members and wishing them all the best as they step into this new phase of their life.

Furthermore, the Muslim brothers and sisters of the editorial board were not left out of the thanksgiving mood, as they too gave thanks to Allah for the success of their service year in their respective mosques.

The Osun State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation has on Saturday 16th. October, 2021, decontaminated the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede ahead of the 2021 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation Course.

While welcoming the team from the Ministry, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka thanked the government for honoring the scheme's request for the decontamination exercise geared towards creating a safe and virus free environment for all course participants.

Shokpeka stated that the welfare and safety of course participants is sacrosanct to the Scheme, therefore all measures are being put in place to ensure that a conducive and safe environment is created for the conduct of the Orientation Program.

She further stated that the fumigation against reptiles, insects and mosquitoes will also be carried out after the decontamination exercise in order to ensure that the environment is virus free and also rid it of insects and reptiles that can cause harm to course participants.

She concluded by saying that the State is fully set to receive prospective corps members, deployed for the one year mandatory service to the nation. Shokpeka further called on prospective corps members and course participants to ensure they get vaccinated against the dreaded corona virus, as this will safeguard them and ensure the safety of others.

The team from the Ministry decontaminated the entire premises of the camp, covering the entrance, clinic, hostels, kitchen and dining, camp market, among others.

The NYSC Osun State Staff, heads of collaborating agencies and well wishers have showered enconiums on the outgone State Coordinator Mr. Ayodele Adegoke who was recently transferred to the  National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja and the former Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mr Fatogun Jimmy, who was  transferred to the North Central Area Office.

The event, celebrated in a grand style, took place on Thursday at Atlantis Civic Centre Osogbo and was well attended by graced by Principal officers, Heads of Parastatals, Members of Staff, SAED trainers and facilitators. Also in attendance was the retired Director Special Duties, Mr James Afolayan, retired Deputy Directors and a host of dignitaries.

The State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, in her address appreciated the members of the Planning Committee for putting together such a grand event within a very short time stating that it is a honour befitting her predecessor.

Mrs Shokpeka who was represented by the Assistant Director Human Resource Management, Mrs Mary Adebesin, described Mr Adegoke as an intelligent, versatile and humble chief executive who has made the scheme proud at all levels. According to her, the outgone Coordinator is a man who has done so much for the scheme and aimed at lifting the scheme higher.

The retired Director, Special Duties, Mr James Afolayan in his goodwill address appreciated all dignitaries for their presence as they came to celebrate the amazing Triple A.  “ Adegoke successfully worked with everyone around him in humility, he set great examples to emulate” he said.

He thanked all the staff for keeping the flag of the Scheme flying, because, according to him, no State Coordinator will succeed without the cooperation of the staff.

Also, the representative of the Commissioner of Police, SP Yemisi Opalola, the Force PRO, described Mr Adegoke as a great man who has succeeded in creating a smooth working synergy between the scheme and her collaborating agencies of which the Force is one. She ended her goodwill address by wishing the celebrants godspeed and greater achievements in life.

Further enconiums were showered on the duo by Mr Gbadeyan, Mr Olota, both retired deputy directors of the Scheme, also, the Chairman Nigeria Society of Engineers Osogbo Chapter, Engr. Wale Alonge, Principal Officers from the Southwest Area Office and NYSC Osun State Secretariat, SAED trainers and corps members eulogised Mr Adegoke for his landslide achievements in the State.

Following the Goodwill messages were joy filled activities as all and sundry gathered to celebrate the icon. Ranging from drama presentations, song and poem renditions to recitations.

In his response, Mr Adegoke expressed deep gratitude to God Almighty who saw him through his entire tenure as State Coordinator and also thanked heads of collaborating agencies of the Scheme, all principal officers, head of units, members of staff and Corps members for the support, show of love, encouragements and enthusiasm towards work as he takes his final bow as the State Coordinator.

“I may be leaving Osun state physically but be rest assured that my heart remains with you all” he added.

He then admonished them to give their best to the incoming State Coordinator, "the same amount of support and even more that you have given to me, I ask that you give to the new State Coordinator as she takes up the mantle of leadership".

Meanwhile, the former AD Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mr. Fatogun Jimmy, in his speech also appreciated the love shown towards him, as he leaves to take on a new post in the North Central Area Office. He described Osun State as the best state to work in stating that the familial spirit in the state makes the achievements of the scheme's objectives very easy.

The event ended on a merry note as presentation of gifts were made to Mr Ayodele Adegoke and Mr Jimmy Fatogun by members of staff, staff welfare, NYSC Osun State Christian fellowship, Branches and Units, SAED trainers, NACC, NCCF, MCAN, Editorial Group and other individuals and groups.

The Sustainable Development Goals CDS Group of Osogbo Local Government has on Thursday donated first aid boxes to selected secondary schools in Osogbo, Osun State.

The donation was made during the Group's sensitisation tour of four schools in the State. The group sensitized the teachers and students of the school on safety within the school environment and also on the importance of first Aid response should any accident occur within the school.

The President of the group, corps member Fajoye Ayodeji highlighted the various accidents that could occur within the school premises, preventive measures and first Aid steps to be taken to mitigate the effects of such accidents should they occur.

He explained to the students the importance of swiftness in first Aid response. "When it comes to first Aid response, you need to be swift and rapid", he said.

According to them, the donation was done in accordance with one of their core values, which is rebuilding a better world and also as part of their drive to give back to the society having passed through the stage the students are currently passing through now.

The President presented the first aid boxes to the four selected secondary schools namely: Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo Grammar School, Baptist Girls School and Ataoja School of Science.

The Administrators and Principals of the beneficiary schools received the boxes with utmost gratitude describing the donation as timely as it will aid the schools swift response to her students when the need arises.

The Group further distributed Sanitary pads to female students at one of the schools visited, to commemorate the International Day of the girl child.

NYSC Osun State has once again witnessed a change of baton as Mr Ayodele Adegoke handed over the leadership of the Scheme in the State to Mrs Winifred Shokpeka.

The handing over which took place at the State Secretariat on Monday had in attendance the outgoing and the incoming state coordinator and management staff of the Scheme in the State.

Mr Ayodele Adegoke in his farewell address appreciated God for the grace to see the completion of his tenure in Osun State as State Coordinator. He further thanked members of staff for their loyalty and commitment to the lofty ideals of the Scheme which contributed immensely to the success recorded during his tenure.


He appreciated them for keeping the bond of family and Unity.
“We started well, and by the Grace of God, we are ending well. Thank you all for your support, love and cooperation in ensuring we made progress over this past few years," he added.

He offered prayers for the new State Coordinator Mrs. Winnifred Shokpeka, her family and the government of Osun State for wisdom to ensure a smooth running of affairs during her tenure. He then appreciated the Corps Members present for their diligence throughout his time in the state and urged them to keep up the good work as they welcome the new coordinator.

In her response, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka appreciated her predecessor and his team for upholding the values of the Scheme across board. She equally thanked the outgoing coordinator for not only maintaining the ranking of the State but for raising it to an enviable state setting it as a standard for other States to emulate.

She called on the management team, staff and corps members not to relent in exhibiting those virtues that has made them outstanding over the years.

According to her, “NYSC family is one, leadership may change but the scheme's vision, mission and objectives remains the same. I therefore covet your prayers and utmost devotion in other to succeed. I promise to build upon the legacies of my predecessor to the best of my ability".

She admonished the principal officers and heads of units to continue to give their best irrespective of who is in charge.

“The ultimate aim of our work here is to grow together, build together, achieve together and succeed together”.

She ended by wishing her predecessor well even as he moves to the NDHQ in furtherance of the activities of the scheme and prayed for unprecedented open doors for him.

Mrs Winifred Shokpeka hails From Delta State and Bagged a Bachelor of Education in English and Literature from the prestigious University of Benin in 1992. She joined the scheme as an inspector after successfully completing her one year mandatory service to the nation in the Corps Welfare and Health Department of NYSC in 1993.

She has worked in various State secrétariats like Kaduna, Niger, Lagos, Osun and Lagos again where she worked until her transfer to the NDHQ Abuja upon her promotion as Deputy Director.

Before her transfer as State Coordinator, Mrs Shokpeka was the Deputy Director Discipline and Merit of the Corps Welfare and Health Services Department NDHQ, Abuja. Her penchant for excellence has earned her several awards and commendations from Director Generals and management of the Scheme at all levels.

Her maxim is finding herself and being the best of herself and also working with and helping young people discover and stay grounded in the right path.


The meeting ended with the presentation of the handover notes from the outgoing to the incoming state coordinator of NYSC Osun State.

The newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission Osun State, Prof. Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji has on Thursday paid a courtesy call on the NYSC Boss, Mr Ayodele Adegoke in his office in Osogbo.

In his remark, Prof. Olayinka Raji expressed his excitement and gratitude to be appointed as the Resident Electoral Commisioner for the State. He stated that the courtesy visit to the state coordinator and members of his team is strategic and necessary so as to consolidate the budding relationship that has always existed between the Commission and the NYSC.

Furthermore, he noted that it has been proven over and again that the involvement of Corps Members in the electoral processes has brought about sanity to the system hence, the NYSC is a key stakeholder in the electioneering process that cannot be neglected.

Prof. Olayinka noted that for the general elections in the coming year in Osun State to be a success ,there is an urgent need for a collaboration between both parties.

Whilst appreciating the State Coordinator for the efforts put into mobilising credible and outstanding Corps members both in the registration and election processes, he encouraged the Corps members present to “do it better” and to be more involved in the process of selecting appropriate leaders for the country.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke in his response appreciated the honourable commissioner for spending time to visit and also prayed for peace during his tenure. He promised that NYSC will continue to do her best in guaranteeing free and fair elections.

He however pleaded with the Honorable Commissioner to give all Corps Members that will be participating in the General Elections their due entitlements whilst placing premium on their security and welfare.

At the end of the event, the State Coordinator presented publications of the NYSC as gifts to the REC, while promising to abide by all that has been stated in the scheme's Memorandum of Understanding with the Commission.

The State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke has said that the spirit of unity and oneness is strengthened through good sportsmanship.

He made this known during the closing ceremony for the NYSC Southwest Zonal Sports and Cultural festival held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Friday.

He stated that the coming together of people from different walks of life to engage in sports and cultural competitions contrary to popular belief, actually strengthens the bond of unity. "We may look different physically, and have seemingly different cultural backgrounds, but in a great show of sportsmanship, all those attributes make us one".

Mr. Adegoke admonished the contingents to keep their heads high irrespective of the final results because they have performed extremely well to have gotten to the final lap.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, appreciated the Director Community Development Service and Special Projects, Alhaji Abdulrazak Salawu for gracing the closing ceremony with his exteemed presence. He also appreciated the coaches and local organising committee for their tireless work from the onset of the competition.

He encouraged the participants to give in their best to make their various States proud.
The final fixtures included Edo Vs Ekiti State and Oyo Vs Ondo State for football and volleyball respectively.

The football game ended with 2 goals to nil in favour of Ekiti State and 3-1 in favour of Ondo State for the volleyball game.

In a related development, the NYSC Osun State contingents put up a good show at the just concluded NYSC National Sports and Cultural Competition held in Delta State.

The Sport Team did excellently as they won the 200m and 4x100m female relay race, came 2nd in the Men's relay race but lost out in the semi final of the Volleyball competition.

Again, the cultural troupe also performed excellently by taking the 1st position in Dance competition and 2nd position in the Drama competition.

In all, the NYSC Sports and Cultural Festival was one that not only brought about peace and unity, it also created an avenue for Corps members to showcase their talent and rely on their skill-set to succeed.

The gallant NYSC Osun state team competed against the likes of Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

We congratulate all members and staff of the Osun State NYSC for the success in the competition; while we say kudos to the members of the cultural and sports team who have made us proud.

Recall that the NYSC cultural and sports festival is an event which was inaugurated in 1984 in order to foster the development of the core values of unity and cultural integration through sports, dance, comedy and drama.

The NYSC State Governing Board Chairman and Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Lawal Azeez Olayemi has said that NYSC Competitions are designed to promote unity and oneness among Nigerians.

He made this known during the flag off ceremony for the NYSC Southwest Zonal Sports and Cultural Festival held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede on Wednesday.

According to him, it is a great initiative by the NYSC to have organised such an event as this, as it would encourage integration among Nigerian youths. He expressed his belief in the great youths of Nigeria and pledged his utmost support to them.

He enjoined all the participants therefore to compete in love and in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator Mr Ayodele Adegoke has said that competitions organized by the scheme over time have helped to promote and strengthen the unity and oneness of Nigerians across all ages.

According to him, the event has come at a central time where there is so much disunity and disintegration which can only be addressed by such competitions.

" ln a bid to build a united, strong and cohesive society free from hate, ethnicity and religious bigotry, the establishment of events as this are veritable tools for the actualization of this goal."

He encouraged the participants to give in their best to make their various States proud.

Furthermore, Goodwill messages were delivered by the Director SWAO, Mrs Akin-Moses Oluwafunmilayo, the VC of Redeemers University, Prof. Enitan Akilo represented by Prof. A.P. Yerima, the VC Adeleke University represented by Prof. Uloma Onuoha and the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ede, Dr. Adekolawole Taiwo represented by Dr. Omotosho O.S (jnr).

Mrs Akin-Moses Oluwafunmilayo stated that NYSC sports and cultural festival was introduced 35years ago to enable youths showcase the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. She also said "it is not a do or die affair" and encouraged contingents to show diligence and fair play towards everyone.

Prof. Uloma Onuoha stated that no matter what happens, victory is attained by doing one's best. Prof. Omotosho O. S (jnr) encouraged contingents to show the spirit of unity and sportsmanship, he applauded NYSC for keeping the country together in unity and love. He said "if you win, win with dignity, if you lose, lose with magnanimity".

Following the goodwill messages, were presentations, including a compendium of all NYSC activities from the past was made to the dignitaries from the different citadels of learning.

The ceremony witnessed a joyous procession from the contingents from the represented States: Edo State, Ekiti State, Lagos State, Ogun State, Ondo State and Oyo State. The event witnessed a dance performance by the Osun state cultural troop to welcome the contingents.

Recall that the purpose of the event, being carried out across the 6 Geo-political zones, is to foster unity, peace and integration across the Federation.

The NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim who was represented by the Osun State Coordinator Mr Ayodele Adegoke has charged the 202l Batch B stream 2 corps members to perform their duties with diligence even as they serve their fatherland.

The address was made at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday, during the closing ceremony of the Batch.

In the address, DG Ibrahim described the 3-weeks orientation course as 'hitch-free'. He appreciated the Corps Members for demonstrating a high level of discipline and patriotism. He added that the next phase of their service year is of great significance, and that they should sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience.

Speaking on the issue of posting, he stated that Corps Members should not induce their rejection, but rather accept their postings in good faith, perform their duties with diligence, and add value to their host community. Buttressing this point, he added that they should partake in the Community Development Service, as it will help improve the standard of the living of the community.

On SAED, he encouraged Corps Members to build on the skills they acquired in order to create more opportunities for themselves.

He reiterated the Scheme's commitment to strengthening and maintaining mutually beneficial relationship with stakeholders.

Ibrahim added that the scheme holds security to a very high esteem, hence, they have put security measures in place to ensure the safety of Corps members. He stated that Corps Members have a role to play in ensuring security, including avoidance of risky engagements, late night parties and strangers, drug abuse, cyber crime and other vices. He added that they should always be conscious of the implication of their actions.

Furthermore, he warned against unauthorized journeys and night travels, stating that they render rescue efforts useless. Emphasising the Importance of staying security conscious, he stated that Corps members should not be on transit once it is past 6PM, and if they do, they should go to a nearest barrack or designated places deemed safe to pass the night.

Additionally, he commended all Corps Members for complying with the Covid-19 rules and advised them to still be on their guard and get vaccinated. He added that they should also help in sensitising their host communities on preventative measures, as well as encourage them to get vaccinated.

Again, he called out to corps employers to help in developing the potentials of Corps members, and commended all camp officials for their dedication and team work in ensuring a smooth run of the orientation course.

The Director General concluded his address by commending the Federal, State and Local Governments, Security Agencies, NCDC, NAFCA, Traditional Rulers and all Stakeholders for ensuring the successful completion of the orientation course. He then wished all the Corps Members a successful service year.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke has charged the 202l Batch B stream 2 corps members to live exemplary lives and shine their light brightly for all to see.

He made this known on Monday during the debriefing at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede.

Again, he urged Corps Members to be good representatives of the Scheme, and also to cultivate the attitude of punctuality, diligence and hard work in their various Places of Primary assignment.

Furthermore, he advised Corps Members to avoid late night travels as the roads are unsafe and unfit for such journeys. He also called on them to always stay at alert, so as not to fall prey to fraudsters.

Speaking on the channels of communication, he stated that Corps Members should adopt the proper channel of communication, starting from their Local Government Inspectors (LGI).

Mr Adegoke urged Corps Members to participate actively in the community development service in their LGA's, as they are of two categories, namely : Year round known as the General CDS and the Personal. He added that they should strive to leave a legacy behind in their host communities.

"The NYSC scheme is known for its reward system. It gives reward to Corps Members who did excellently well and sanction to those who default the rules and regulations of the scheme.

" Also, Corps Members are advised to read through the security tips and NYSC guide given to them during the orientation exercise, and shun partisan politics and politicians" he added.

Adegoke stated that the NYSC foundation was made available to sponsor major projects in camps, and for Corps Members to access loans for their start-up businesses.

To mark the end of the exercise, Mr Adegoke rewarded some Corps members who where outstanding, one of which was miss Abidogun Fasilat Abimbola with code number 3570 from Platoon 10, who returned a misplaced sum of #5,000. She was also automatically declared a Chief Liaising Officer (CLO) in any LGA she finds herself. The other Corps Members who were awarded, include all three Corps Camp Directors: Maduka Festus Chukwuma (3487), Kevin Weng Jacob (4473), and Adebanjo Tomiwa (3615).

Accordingly, some committed and highly dedicated Corps Members of the SERVICOM were awarded, also. They are Adebayo Kehinde Stephen (3948), Asuquo Mkpoikanke Akpan (4475), and Kayode Oluwabunmi Roseline (3681).

Finally, he thanked God for a casualty-free orientation exercise, and also wished all Corps Members a successful service year ahead.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has on Monday, admonished the 2021 Batch B Stream 2 Corps Members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC Scheme.

He made this address from the National Directorate Headquarters Abuja via a virtual meeting with camp officials and corps members across the federation.

While speaking to them, he informed them that the scheme has been designed to make young graduates become better. He therefore told them to take advantage of the opportunity to explore and do their best for their fatherland.

Speaking on the Place of Primary Assignments, the Director General went on to enjoin Corps Members to remain dedicated to their PPAs, and portray the NYSC scheme in a good light even as they represent the interests of the scheme as good ambassadors.

He enjoined them to explore their potentials, imparting the lives of people they come in contact with.

Furthermore, the Director General went on to advice Corps Members to stay away from peddling unhealthy information and fake news that can jeopardise the good image of the scheme. He further advised against involvement in social vices including cyber crime, cultism, amongst others.

The NYSC boss went on to state that any defaulting Corps Member caught engaging in any of these unhealthy activities will be made to face the beat.

Speaking on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, the Director General enjoined Corps Members who participated in the SAED to develop their skills and make them profitable by engaging in the post-camp trainings, taking advantage of the funding options available for grants and loans to develop their businesses.

On the issue of communication, he advised Corps Members to always follow the proper channel of communication and that they should ensure they obtain permission from the NYSC authority before leaving their places of primary assignments. He asserted that no employer has the right to grant permission to travel to Corps Members except the scheme's management and therefore enjoined the members to do the right thing and follow the laid down protocols by the scheme.

Furthermore, he called on Corps Members and Camp officials to endeavour to take their COVID-19 vaccines in order to ensure safety for all.

Conclusively, the Director General rounded off his address by appreciating the Corps Members and imploring them to keep to all injunctions that have been given to them as they will lead them to a successful service year and charged them to avoid night journeys at all cost.

It was all shades of beauty on Saturday as the 2021 Batch B stream 2 corps members posted to Osun State held their carnival at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke noted that the essence of the carnival is to showcase the cultural uniqueness that we have.

" We have a rich cultural identity as Nigerians. There is a need therefore to showcase it wherever we might find ourselves and be proud of who we are".

Earlier, the Head of Man O' War, Mr Deji Aboge noted that the carnival helps people to set aside their differences and focus on what makes them one.

"It is an opportunity to express love, and celebrate those that have imparted us. Through it, we demonstrate unity which is needed in the country". He therefore charged everyone to make such event memorable by putting their all into it.

The sponsors of the carnival, Munch iT, represented by Mr Dayo Ajayi, the Marketing Manager SouthWest appreciated all the corps members for giving in their best to the success of all activities on camp and encouraged them to continue to engage themselves in ventures and activities that unites the nation and not divide her.

The cultural display for the day had Platoon 7 displaying the rich culture of the Urhobos, Platoon 3 showcasing the Fulani culture, Platoon 6 displaying the Hausa culture, Platoon 10 showcasing the Igbo culture, Platoon 5 showing the Ibibio culture.

Again, Platoon 2 displayed the Efik culture, Platoon 9 displayed the Osun Osogbo culture, platoon 4 showcased the Ondo culture, Platoon 1 displayed the Benin culture and platoon 8 displayed the Igede culture. The presentations were judged based on certain criteria. The panel of judges consisted of Mrs Abiona Adenike, Dr Ademola Ayoola and Mr Yusuf Abiodun who was the chief judge.

The event witnessed special performances from the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), Camp Clinic, Quarter Guard, and Servicom.

After the interesting cultural displays by the various platoons, awards were presented in both dressing and cultural display. For the best dressed platoon, platoon 2, 6, and 10 came 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively.

For the cultural display, platoon 5 came first, platoon 2 came 2nd, and platoon 10 came 3rd. They were awarded cash prizes as well as Munch iT product

The event ended on a high note for some platoons who emerged winners.

Platoon l have emerged the winners of the NYSC family dance competition for the 202l Batch B stream 2 orientation course after a series of intriguing performances by all the participants.

The Deputy Camp Director Alh. Wahid Ajayi in his address at the opening of the contest on Wednesday, told the corps members that the dance is designed to create a bonding among team members as well as ensure good brotherliness.

Serving as the chief judge for the contest, Alh. Wahid also highlighted the criteria for judgement to include: creativity, originality, stage management, time and uniformity. He therefore encouraged them to put in their best.

In the end, platoon 9 and 8 emerged lst and 2nd runner up respectively.

Meanwhile, the most influential male and female Mr Macho and Miss NYSC contestants in the online battle of likes were rewarded during the contest with Nwoko Kachi from platoon l0 emerging the winner for the male category and Marvellous Edoja from platoon 5 taking the spot of the most influential female contestant.
