The Ag. Director NYSC Southwest Area Office, Mr. Kehinde Aremu-Cole has told the 2022 Batch C Stream II Corps Members to translate from the youth service to being business owners and entrepreneurs. He stated that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme of the NYSC is a platform that affords Corps Members the opportunity to achieve this.

Addressing the Corps Members during his working visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Wednesday, Aremu made it known that the Small Medium Enterprise, SME, is a driving force in the socio-economic development of any country, citing China as an example of a developed country whose production force depends majorly on the SMEs and urged Corps Members to take the SAED programme seriously.

Aremu, who spoke extensively on the SAED programme, its importance and relevance to the nation's socio-economic development, also enlightened the Members on the need for them to transform from themselves first before talking about transforming the nation.

According to him, the Corps Members need to recalibrate their mindset about life and the issues of life if they really wish to be drivers of change in the society. He called on them to be humble and open to learning new things as no man knows it all.

On the spate of unemployment in the Country, he urged Corps Members to take advantage of the opportunity to learn practical and entrepreneurial skills provided by the Orientation Course and emphasized the availability of funding options open to those who show high levels of dedication and seriousness in their respective skills, provided by various organisations who partnered with NYSC such as CBN, the Bank of Industry (BOI), among others.

Aremu made it known that Orientation lectures were carefully selected and packaged to meet with current trend and challenges stating that real men are made in the lecture hall as they are men who were open to learning and relearning.

He implored them to take heed to the details of each lecture given to them on security, NYSC, the SAED Entrepreneurship Development Programme, professional orientation and a host of others. He made it known that adherence to the details of the lectures will spell success for them throughout the service year.

"The NYSC is a platform you have graduated to, therefore, take this platform seriously and leverage on it to achieve your dreams. Have a producer mindset rather than a consumer mindset. Learn to invest and don't consume every resources that comes your way.

"Most of these opportunities are only available to you while you are serving and may not be readily available after your service. I charge you to make the most of them now as time and tide waits for no man", he said.

He also enjoined the Corps Members to abstain from actions that could mar their names and that of their families. He said that unapproved journeys, night journeys and night crawling and partying especially in secluded environments should be shunned by all. He urged them to be disciplined and patriotic in their deportment throughout the service year.

Earlier, Aremu thanked Camp Officials for their committment and loyalty to the Scheme and its mandate. He also commended Corps Members for their comportment and high sense of responsibility and discipline displayed based on the report he had recieved from the State. He urged them to keep up the good work and continue to represent their Alma mater and families well.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab has described the 2022 Batch C Stream II Corps Members as a wonderful set of disciplined Corps Members who followed diligently Camp rules and regulations.

She said this while briefing the Ag. Director SWAO, Mr Aremu-Cole on the disposition of the Corps Members on Camp. She stated that the Camp has been very peaceful with every Official going about their duties diligently and cheerfully.

She appreciated the Director for deeming it fit to visit the Corps Members and Camp Officials at the ongoing Orientation Course.

In a related development, interacting with NYSC Officials on Camp, Aremu encouraged them to develop a savings culture turning their savings into investment and also to consciously take calculated steps in ensuring and maintaining peace in their homefront in spite of the demands of their jobs.

Mr Aremu appreciated the Corps Members and gave cash gifts to Quarter Guard, Band and the Orientation Broadcasting Service commending the OBS for their selfless service and contribution to the success of each Orientation Course describing them as people who work behind the scene to ensue success of every Camp activity.

The Ag. Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Christy Uba has charged the 2022 Batch C Stream II Corps Members to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the Scheme to acquire skills needed to help them become self-employed and self-reliant as there are not many readily available white-collar jobs.

The Ag. Director-General who was represented by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab, made this known during her address at the Swearing-in and Official Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Batch C Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Tuesday.

Uba stated that the first cardinal programme of the NYSC, which is the three weeks Orientation Course is designed to prepare Corps Members for the tasks of the Service Year through training on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), leadership coaching, paramilitary drills, and other physical activities, as well as sensitization on topical national issues, amongst others.

She enjoined them to take advantage of this golden opportunity to participate in all the Camp activities.

She also stated that the core objectives of the NYSC is the promotion of national unity and integration, necessitating Corps Members deployed away from their respective States of origin and assemblage at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp from diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds.

She stressed the importance of NYSC in fostering national unity and integration and encouraged the Corps Members to take the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of the country and to also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace and love.

She implored the new corp members to sustain a high level of discipline and to take their oaths seriously and remain compliant with the Camp rules and regulations. Also, she urged them to avoid using social media for spreading fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes, and instead deploy the same for the promotion of national unity and development.

She reminded the Corps Members to adhere strictly to the established safety guidelines such as: physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and regular hand washing as well as other personal hygiene in the Orientation camp.

"You are to equally avail yourselves at the Camp Clinic whenever the need arises," she added.

Uba also noted that the National Pledge and the NYSC Oath of Allegiance taken during their Swearing-in Ceremony are expected to guide and shape their conduct and character during the Service Year.

Furthermore, she urged them to familiarize themselves with the NYSC Act and Bye-laws as it contains information and guidelines for a successful Service year.

The National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance were administered by the Chief Judge of Osun State, Hon. Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo who was represented by Hon. Justice C. O Olokede-Obadina on the 1300 Corps Members deployed to the State.

HRM Oba (Dr.) Akeem Olusayo Ogungbange, the Owaloko of Iloko-ìjèsà has expressed his excitement as he visited Prospective Corps Members, enlightening them about the core values Yoruba culture allows.

He educated PCMs on the essence of time in the modification of culture, saying that Yorubas have been known to be a people of culture, during his lecture on Monday, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State.

Oba Akeem, during his visit said that the popular 'Omoluabi' phrase familiar to PCMs since their arrival means people are of integrity, and that is what Yorubas have been known for, stating that PCMs should imbibe it as their day-to-day lifestyle.

He further enjoined PCMs to respect the cultures and traditions of the land because they are of utmost importance to Yoruba people, saying that greetings and honouring people is sacrosanct to the Yoruba culture.

On belief and faith, Oba Akeem told PCMs that there is no other Kàbíyèsi asides God, that the Yorubas believe in God as much as every other person does. He also told PCMs that Kàbíyèsi is the earthly King and God is supreme.

Speaking on the NYSC experience, Oba Akeem said the Scheme has changed a lot since the time he knew of it, saying permanent camps were not a thing in his days and that Orientation programmes then ran for 6 weeks against the 3 weeks obtainable now.

He taught PCMs ways to greet in Yoruba and also stated that being a tonal language, a word could have more than one meaning and therefore urged the PCMs to learn the use of such words while they serve in the State.

Oba Akeem, during his visit was accompanied by Ọba Amos Adewunmi Ogidiolu, Oniwoye of Ìwọ-Jesa.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab has declared the 2022 Batch C Stream 2 Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) in-camp training open and enjoined the Prospective Corps Members deployed to the State to acquire a skill to be self-reliant.

Abdulwahab made the statement at the opening ceremony of the SAED In-camp training at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday. She stated that the SAED training which today has begone will equip the PCMs to be self reliant and great entrepreneurs in life.

She also outlined other collaborating agencies which have been consistent in extending their corporate social responsibilities to Corps Members in the State. According to her some of the programmes and organizations include: Graduate Entrepreneurship Fund from the Bank of Industry, Accesspreneurship challenge from Access Bank and the Corpreneurship Challenge from Unity Bank.

Abdulwahab also highlighted the 12 skills et available for PCMs to learn from stressing that the twelve skillset embody subskills making a wider range of skills available for them to learn from. She stated that since the programme started thousands of Corps Members have been trained with many becoming employers of labour, cutting their teeth in business rather than seeking for white collar jobs.

She charged the PCMs to take the programme seriously and make sure they add value to themselves in order to become productive members of the society contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of the nation.

Correspondingly, the Branch Manager, of Unity Bank, Osogbo, Mr. Tajudeen Jimoh explained extensively the Corpreneurship challenge and urged PCMs to avail themselves of this opportunity as One Million Naira is available to Corps Members with an innovative bankable proposal.

"The winner whose proposal will defeat others to come first among the 10 finalists that will be shortlisted to defend their business proposal will go home with the sum of 500,000 naira, the second position will win 300,000 naira while the third position will win 200,000 naira," he said.

Speaking earlier the Head of SAED, Mr. Aleshinloye Adeniyi gave a brief background of the SAED programme and urged them to participate actively in both the in-camp and post-camp training to become experts in their chosen skills.

He intimated the Members on the benefits of the SAED programme and also told them that the Scheme has partnered with financial institutions and regulatory bodies who will be coming into the Camp to sensitise and enlighten the PCMs on how to make their entrepreneurial dream a reality.

The opening ceremony further featured a playlet from the SAED Ambassadors, testimonies from serving Corps Members and introduction of trainers.

In a related development, a motivational lecture was delivered to the
PCMs by the CEO of Personal Development Institute, Mr. Segun Oduyebo. He told them that they can be great in life, regardless of their background. To achieve this, he urged them to work on themselves to develop competence and character rather than believing that the solution lies in leaving the country for a change of environment popularly known as 'japa'.

Leading the team of National Directorate of Employment, Mr. Razak Oyekanmi and Mr. Bamidele Olugbenga drew the attention of the PCMs to the entrepreneurship world and thanked the NYSC Management in the State for allowing them to deliver the lecture, stating that the organization is grateful for this.

Oyekanmi started the EDP lectures with the PCMs taking them through the SAED workbook.

The Chief Executive Officer, Fortunate Bread Osun State, Alhaji Adejumo Abdulwasiu Opeyemi, has made good the promise of a donation of a borehole made to the NYSC Osun State at the recent Hall of Fame programme held in the State.

The maiden edition of the Hall of Fame programme which drew dignitaries across the State saw stakeholders and friends of the Scheme from different sectors of the society coming around to celebrate the achievements of the Scheme. Some thereafter made donations while some others made promises toward the ongoing Camp renovations and revamping.

In fulfilment of the promise made, Alhaji Adejumo donated a borehole which drilling commenced at the female hostel of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Monday.

In appreciation, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, who was overjoyed with the commencement of the Borehole drilling appreciated Alhaji Adejumo for being a man of his word.

According to her, the promised fulfilled was coming on the heels of the donation of a borehole and cash gift from the Senate Spokesperson, Alhaji Bashir Ajibola during his visit to the NYSC Osun State Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede today.

Abdulwahab appreciated all friends and stakeholders of the Scheme for deeming it fit to redeem the pledges and promises made during the Hall of Fame programme. She stated that water is life and therefore the Scheme will continue to work towards ensuring very adequate supply of portable water in the Camp.

Considering the number of Course participants, Abdulwahab stated that having boreholes erected at the various hostels to augment the water supply in the Camp will go a long way in easing the burden of accessing portable water by Course participants at every point in time. She thanked Fortunate Bread for the legacy which will forever be remembered and appreciated.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab has on Monday commissioned the newly sunk borehole project by the 2021 Batch C Corps Members of the Sustainable Development Goals in Ede North Local Government Area, Osun State

Abdulwahab, who was represented by the Assistant Director, Community Development Service, Mr Felix Ayibiowu lauded the service and commitment of the Batch C Corps Members in their efforts in providing a much-needed facility in the community.

Speaking on the essence of the Community Development Service [CDS], Abdulwahab said the Corps Members have carried out one of the most important tasks in their service year, stating that they have identified a problem and solved it in the community.

She also thanked the good spirited people of the community for encouraging the Corps Members to put in their best in the community. According to her, if the community had been hostile or nonchalant towards the Members they would not have thought of leaving such a landmark in the community.

She stated that the cordial relationship that existed between the Corps Members and Members of the Community must have been such that the Corps Members felt they had to give back to the Community the love, care, protection and support enjoyed by them during the service year.

On the importance of the borehole project, the team lead, Ojo Isaac Sanmi with State Code OS/21C/5636 said the decision to carry out the project was to solve the community's water crisis and improve the hygiene of drinking portable water.

"We have steady power supply in Ede but portable water is where we fall short.

"The only source of water in the community is a well, which is not safe for consumption. And one of the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) CDS Group is to ensure the provision of clean and safe drinking water for community residents", he said.

On the challenges encountered during the project, Isaac said the project was faced with financial constraints, but sponsors came to their aid to help them see the project through and impact in the community they had served in.

Other team members that contributed to the project were: Irewolede Ibukun, Ibrahim Yusuf, Aboche Matthew, Okehampton Joseph, Ewuneye Adeshola, Tsetim Doose and Barasin Tari, all of which are Batch C Corps Members.

Note that the Community Development Service programme is designed to allow Corps Members contribute to the communities they serve in; it is one of the four cardinal points of the NYSC Scheme.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps Brigadier General Mohammed Kaku Fadah took to the stage at the Swearing-in and Official Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Batch C Stream 1 Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) in Osun State to highlight the purposes of the service admonishing to keep to the tenets of the programme.

The Swearing-in and Official Opening Ceremony of the Members took place on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede.

Gen. Fadah who was represented by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab told Corps Members that at the pinnacle of values to be imbibed is national integration and unity. He enjoined them to shun hate speech while building bridges to foster national unity.

He admonished the Members to play well their role in nation building during the service year while developing skills by leveraging on the learning opportunities provided by the NYSC.

“The regimented course further equips you with the mental and physical skills needed to face the challenges of the service year", he said.

He urged them to take part in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Program (SAED) to hitch up their skills to create a niche for themselves and excel in their chosen career path.

Also gracing the event was the Honourable Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo represented by Hon. Justice Olorunfemi Judith Àjànàkú who swore in the PCMs and witnessed the signing of the Service Pledge by the platoon representatives signifying full enrollment into the Corps.

A total of 2,300 Corps Members were sworn in partitioned into 1,500 deployed to Osun State and 800 dislodged from Lagos for the Orientation Course.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Osun State has as part of its drive towards ensuring an all inclusive electoral process, recognised and recommended 10 Corps Members with Physical Disabilities for the State Coordinator's commendation for their active participation and outstanding performance during the 2022 Gubernatorial Election in the State.

Speaking at the Award Ceremony which took place on Thursday at the NYSC Secretariat in Osogbo, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, appreciated INEC for introducing the initiative in its drive to encourage Corps Members irrespective of their Physical challenges to participate in the electoral process.

She stated that the initiative was a welcome development as it will go a long way in encouraging hardwork and dignity of labour among the elite youths mobilised for service. Abdulwahab reiterated the commitment of NYSC to the training of Corps Members, instiling discipline and heightening the moral tone of the Members through the carrot and stick system.

According to her, the NYSC Scheme has a system in place which rewards irrespective of background, ethnic inclination nor physical outlook, hardwork and outstanding performance by Corps Members and also a system that disciplines erring Members who flaunt the NYSC Bye-laws.

She commended the Corps Members for being worthy Ambassadors of the NYSC, their respective families and the nation as well. She assured them that their good deeds and outstanding comportment during the Osun State Gubernatorial Election which earned them the award will be duly reported to the Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. MK Fadah, whose policy thrust has at its core the welfare of the Members of the Scheme.

Also speaking at the event, the Administrative Secretary of the Commission, Mr Alani Abdulsalam Oduntan, commended the Management of the NYSC Scheme for its robust collaboration with the INEC which has resulted in the success of the nation's electoral processes over the years.

Alani stated that the event was birthed by the Commission's passion for the inclusion of people with disabilities in the electoral process. He stated that out of the 38 PWDs who put in for the adhoc assignment only 10 shew up and participated actively, manning their polling units with excellent service delivery to the amazement and commendation of all present. This, according to him, made the Commission to recommend the Corps Members for the award.

Alani further stated that the inclusion of the Corps Members in the process has ranked the State as the first to achieve the all inclusive mandate of the Commission. He stated that the Chairman of the Commission has equally been notified of the Corps Members participation and outstanding performance.

Corps Member Aniebonam Amanda appreciated the NYSC and INEC for identifying with them and appreciating their efforts in contributing their own quota in nation building. Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the recipients of the award, Amanda said she and her colleagues were only discharging their duties as they had been taught by the NYSC and only wanted to do their best in ensuring the objectives for the collaboration of INEC with NYSC are fully realised.

She thanked the NYSC for the system that recognises and rewards outstanding Corps Members and also thanked INEC for recommending them for the award.

Commendation letters by the State Coordinator were given to the awardee, while those still serving had theirs retrieved at the end of the ceremony to be given to them at the end of their service year. The Awardees were equally given commendation letters and cash gifts from the INEC.

The Ceremony had in attendance top management staff of NYSC and INEC Osun State.

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola has applauded the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme for the progress made so far. He commended the Scheme for living up to the ideals for its creation.

Oyetola commended the State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab and her team for putting together the programme and bringing together friends and stakeholders of the Scheme in the State and also for x-raying the programmes, achievements and challenges of the Scheme in such a unique way.

Governor Oyetola, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Lawal Azeez Olayemi, disclosed this while delivering his speech at the programme held at the Atlantis Civic Centre, Osogbo on Wednesday. He urged participants to continue working unanimously in other to achieve greater success and progress for the Scheme.

"I call on Parents and Friends of NYSC, Corps Employers and other NYSC Collaborators to help make themselves available for the Scheme" he stated.

Oyetola also expressed his joy to see a government parastatal put together such a wonderful and historic programme for youth growth and development.

According to him "Osun state has trained and produced great men and women through the NYSC Scheme both in the past and presently".

Oyetola also applauded the Cultural Troupe of the Scheme for making the State proud in winning the Dance Category at the just concluded NYSC Annual Sports and Cultural Festival in Abuja. While appreciating the Troupe with a token, he assured the Scheme of his administration's readiness to continue to support and protect the Scheme by providing the needed support for Members of the Scheme within the ambit of the State's available resources.

He further called on more collaborative agencies to join efforts with the Government to see to the success of the Scheme in the State.

Also, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen MK Fadah, has appealed to stakeholders to support Corps Members deployed to the State to make their work and stay comfortable.

The DG, who was represented by the Deputy Director NYSC South West Area Office, Mrs Obiageli Okpalifo, stated that the essence of the programme was to showcase the impact of Corps Members and the Scheme in the State.

He added that Corps Members' impact are felt across the sectors of the society. According to him, their impact in the health, education, infrastructural, agricultural and socio-economic areas cannot be overemphasised.

"The task of training our graduate youths is not exclusive to NYSC alone, it is a collective effort. Therefore, I urge you all to support the Scheme where needed. You can help with infrastructural development both in the Camp and outside, it could also be in the area of finances, ideas and any other means you can assist to support these youths and make their service year a memorable one".

The DG commended the State Coordinator for thinking outside the box and coming up with such a laudable event. He called on other States to emulate what Osun has done and try showcasing the Scheme's giant strides in their State's through means other than the stereotypes.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab, in her welcome address, appreciated participants for honouring the Scheme's invitation to the Hall of Fame programme. She stated that Guests where invited from within and outside the State and could not hide her elation seeing the creme de la creme of the State in attendance.

Speaking on the essence of the Programme, Abdulwahab stated that it was needful for the Scheme which has been in existence for the past 31years to take a look back and see how far it has come. She said the programme was put together to celebrate the achievements and impact of the Scheme in the State and to also celebrate stakeholders and collaborators who made it all possible.

While x-raying the Scheme's progress, Abdulwahab highlighted through slides the historical background of the Scheme, the cardinal programmes and their importance to the Corps Members and the society, the various activities of Corps Members on Camp, at their Places of Primary Assignments and also during their CDS.

Olayinka also showcased projects of Corps Members over the years and their feats through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme. She thereafter, highlighted and enlightened the participants on the challenges of the Scheme and called for more collaborations and support.

The programme also featured special presentations from the Band, Cultural Troupe, Pupils of the NYSC Foundation School and Awards given to some individuals and agencies who went extra miles to support the Scheme and its programmes in the State and also those committed to creating a very conducive atmosphere for Members to work in. Also SAED products were were exhibited.

Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Centre for Education and Training Technology, Navy Captain Aondowase Mnguve, has commended the NYSC Osun State for its never-ending efforts in breeding patriotic, selfless citizens.

He made this known during his courtesy call to the State Coordinator, NYSC Osun State, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab at the Secretariat, on Wednesday.

While applauding the State Coordinator for her warm welcome and prompt response to the request for the visit, he established that the Navy has always had a smooth relationship with the Scheme.

The Senior Naval Officer stated that the essence of their visit is to seek skilled linguistic manpower amongst Corps members to ensure the smooth running of its Language Schools.

In his words, "we recently moved to Ile-Ife, Osun State from Lagos State, in line with the Chief of Naval Staff's directive that units should not be concentrated to Coastline areas. This explains the vacuum in our language teaching staffs".

He emphasized that the Navy is working towards metamorphosing its language school to a College of Education to accommodate members of the public.

Reacting to the request, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Abdulwahab promised to supply the Navy Training School with Corps members with requisite qualifications and proficiency skills that would enhance their operations.

"To the best of my knowledge, we do not currently have Corps members skilled in the particular language you are after. But we would do what we can to identify such talents and send them to you", She said.

She, however, asked that Corps members and NYSC Staff be allowed to attend the Navy Language Schools and gain multilingual proficiency at subsidized rates.

Rounding up, Mrs Abdulwahab sought the Commandant's cooperation hinting that the Scheme may need the Agency's assistance whenever a Corps members is in dire security situation.

The Commandant was accompanied by Lieutenant E. Oyawuyi, Sub-Lieutenant F. Ohungunwa, and Sub-Lieutenant T. Kelvin.

The Commandant and his team were recieved by the State Coordinator and top management staff of the Scheme in the State. In attendance was the AD, HRM, Mrs Mary Adebesin ; AD PPRU, Mrs Funmi Okundaye; AD, Deployment and Relocation, Mr Lawal Taofik; AD CDS & SP, Mr Felix Ayibiowu; AD Finance and Account, Mrs Daramola Olubunmi; AD Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs Adesina Omoboade; and others.

The 2022 Batch B Stream 2 Carnival has held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State on Saturday, featuring multicultural displays from platoon 1 through platoon 10.
 
The State Coordinator, Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka told Corps Members that the inter-platoon cultural display is an opportunity to appreciate their respective Cultures and its place in integrating them into a unit.
 
Abdulwahab told Corps Members that as the Camp approaches its last days, they should have fun and enjoy themselves responsibly, stating that it is one of the importance of the Carnival. She stated that the Çarnival programme was incorporated into the camp timetable to replace the endurance trek.

She told the members that they should not let the essence of the Carnival elude them but rather they should through the various display identify the similarities in the Nigerian cultural diversities and equally respect, appreciate and learn from the differences which makes Nigeria stand out in the commity of nations.

Abdulwahab also enjoined the members to cherish different Cultures as part of our identity as a nation.

"I urge you gentlemen Corps Members not to be ashamed of your Culture nor feel your own Culture is superior to that of others. Every Culture is unique in itself and adds to the aesthetic beauty of our nation", she said.
 
Earlier, the Head of Socials, Mr. Fadeyi Sesan in his opening remark told Corps Members that all programmes initiated by the Scheme is to promote the integration of different cultures and preach unity in the nation.
 
Fadeyi said it is important every platoon participate, as the camp officials have drafted a cultural timetable that allows every platoon showcase cultural differences irrespective of where they come from, saying that it allows them learn about cultures other than theirs.
 
The cultures displayed were Tiv, Igbo, Ijaw, Igala, Yoruba, Urhobo, Hausa, Efik, Benin and Idoma by Platoon one to platoon 10 respectively. The Carnival also featured special presentation by the Orientation Broadcasting Service, Medicals, Red Cross, Servicom, Band, Quarter Guard, Man O War, among others.
 
At the end of the cultural display competition, Platoon 10 with a cumulative of 39% was announced first for its colourful display and narrative of the Idoma Culture, Platoon 5 with 33.3% and Platoon 4 with 32.3% coming second and third respectively.
 
Event sponsors, OCI Foundation presented winners and participants with prizes, urging Corps Members in the process to join the fight in eradicating breast and ovarian cancer as it has been a menace among women and men equally.

The State Representative, Mrs Veronica Olawale charged the Corps members to take their health seriously and to ensure they follow the OCI tips and advice on self-examination and regular medical check ups to keep the dreaded disease at bay.

According to her, the OCI Foundation has partnered with the NYSC, being an Organization with the largest number of youths in their productive years. She said this among others is the reason why the Foundation sponsored the Carnival, to register its support of the Scheme and its programmes.

The Carnival also featured presentations of pencil arts to the State Coordinator by Corps Members and the cutting of a gigantic cake courtesy of the State Coordinator by Corps Members and Officials born in the Month of July and August.

The Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Kaku Fadah has told Corps Members that the NYSC Scheme is designed to amplify national integration and unity. He urged them to commit to the tenets of the Scheme as it highlights their dedication to nation building.

The DG said this at the Swearing-in and Official Opening Ceremony of the 2022 Batch B Stream 2 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State on Tuesday.

Gen. Fadah who was represented by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, said that the role Corps Members have assumed is a sensitive and herculean one which each of them must commit to in order to sustain the unity of the Country and the hopes of the upcoming generation.

According to him, the members through the various trainings they will undergo are expected to work towards fostering the unity and integration of the nation in their words, comportment and also through the right deployment of their expertise, skills and technology savvy.

Speaking further on the importance of the NYSC Scheme, Fadah said it avails Corps Members the platform to practice what they have been taught in their respective institutions and also provides them with the needed opportunity to gain required skills to kick-start their career path in life.

He harped on the importance of the regimented Orientation programme which according to him prepares them for the service year, instills discipline and exposes them to the ideals of the NYSC.

The Director-General commended the Corps Members for the high level of discipline and enthusiasm they have shown so far, charging them to sustain the same throughout their service year.

He also charged the newly inducted Members to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-laws, warning them to disassociate themselves from social vices such as cultism and drug abuse. He asserted that defaulters will be prosecuted accordingly as being members of the Scheme does not give anyone immunity from the law.

1,300 Corps Members comprising 600 males and 700 females were sworn-in by the Chief Judge of Osun State , His Lordship, Hon. Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo who was represented by Hon. Justice Ganiyat Omobola Lawal.

HRM Oba Abdurasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji land has visited Prospective Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun State on Monday.

Oba Abdurasheed, during his visit said the NYSC programme is an agent of social engineering because it brings people from different cultural background into a unit for national unity and cohesion.

He further stated that the NYSC is similar to military trainings found in the United States of America, and that it is an opportunity for Prospective Corps Members to seize the opportunity to be servicemen in Nigeria.

In his establishment of the importance of the NYSC programme in the lives of young Nigerians, Oba Abdurasheed said that the NYSC is the best thing that has happened to Nigeria because it allows people the opportunity to travel from their place of origin, birth or permanent residence to explore new territories.

Oba Abdulrasheed who delivered the traditional lecture said that the Yorubas are “very scientific” and industrious because they major in sculptures, graphics, art works, cosmetics, clothing, hair-do. Oba Abdurasheed enjoined PCMs to use the opportunity of serving in one of Yoruba’s historic State, Osun to amplify their knowledge, and learn new things.

Speaking on his NYSC experience, he said it was “worthwhile,” and PCMs should allow the programme pass through them because it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Oba Abdurasheed enjoined PCMs to be respective of elders especially Camp officials, that they should be responsible because Osun State, and the Yoruba culture in its entirety promotes respect amid any other thing.

Earlier in his speech, he said Osun State is a homogeneous State which will allow PCMs become fluent in a new language because the homogeneity allows for that.

He taught PCMs numbers and alphabets in Yoruba and also stated that being a tonal language, a word could have more than one meaning and therefore urged the PCMs to learn the use of such words while they serve in the State.

The NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka has flagged off the Skill Acquisition Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) in-camp programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, on Monday.

Abdulwahab stated that the SAED programme was introduced into the NYSC scheme in 2012, to help Corps Members redirect their focus towards up-skilling, capacity building and wealth creation. She noted that the programme is an important complement to the Corps members certificates of National Service.

She intimated the 2022 Batch B Stream 2 Prospective Corps Members about the duration of the programme, saying it spans a year long; kicks off during the Orientation Camp and continues throughout the service year.

She stated that some of the objective of the SAED programme includes: to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurship and income generation practices; create wealth; identify and develop business ideas; gather information on funding opportunities; gain technical assistance.

Abdulwahab informed PCMs that there are twelve major programmes of the SAED namely: Agro-allied, Food Processing and Preservation, Culture and Tourism, Cosmetology, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Film and Photography, Environment, Power and Energy, Education, Construction, Auto-Mobile and Beautification.

She enlightened the PCMs on the SAED Camp hands-on training agenda, stating that a 28-hour period in 9 days during the Orientation have been set aside for the SAED training, and continues at PCMs' different places of posting.

She mentioned that apart from the training, PCMs will be trained on foundational skills needed in business such as enlightenment on personal qualities, taking responsibility, management skills and other teachings.

She urged PCMs to feel free to contact their Local Government Inspector or the SAED Branch on any matter involving their skill acquisition.

The State Coordinator further stated that NYSC has collaborated with some organisations to help fund businesses of Corps Members. Some of the bodies involved in the funding are Unity Bank, which will organise a proposal writing competition and will award a grant of N500,000 to the winner of the competition; N300,000 to first runner-up, and N200,000 to the 3rd place. Other partners are CBN, Access Bank, Bank of Industry, among others.

She concluded by affirming that she is confident that, with the involvement of PCMs in the SAED programme, they will be able to become wealth creators, rather than job seekers.

Earlier, the Head of SAED, Mr. Aleshinloye Adeniyi said the objective of the programme is geared towards empowering Corps Members with skills, and that registration is at no cost.

He urged PCMs to take advantage of the free programme and be committed to it in order to bridge the gap in the labour hierarchy.

In the same vein, Mr. Tajudeen Jimoh, Branch Manager, Unity Bank, Osun State said their involvement in the up-skill is born from a place of corporate social responsibility for their community, and a drive to put wealth into the hands of future employers of labour.

The NYSC DG, Brigadier General MK Fadah has urged Corps members to set aside their political leaning and inclination as they discharge their electoral duties.

He made this known while addressing Corps members at the Olorunda LGA Electoral Mobilisation Centre, Osogbo, on Saturday.

Enlightening the Corps members on the do's and don'ts guiding their participation in the election, he urged them to be non-partisan in their conducts.

"Whether as PO', APO' or whatever be your role, the nation at large expects you to execute your responsibilities without fear or favour. Do not pre-sign or stamp ballot papers but rather at the point of issuance," he said.

He restated the Scheme's commitment to Corps members' well-being and security, urging them to leverage on the various hotlines and handles of relevant security agencies as well as those of the Scheme's Monitoring Unit.

The topmost NYSC Boss emphasized that Corps members' participation in elections has significantly improved election conduct's success and urged them to display high-level integrity and patriotism as they carry out their responsibilities.

He rolled out a number of security tips to the teeming youths, advising them not to personally react to security concerns but rather leave that job to security agents who are professionally trained to do so.

While rounding-up, he denounced the existence of Corps members' immunity or protection from criminal prosecution, warning them to stay clear of improper behaviours and acts.

Corps members have been drawn from the 30 Local Government Areas in Osun State to conduct elections in varying official capacities. The Gubernatorial Election took place on Saturday, 16th of July, 2022 and across hundreds of polling units in Osun State.

Corps members participation comes on the heels of extensive and hands-on INEC trainings that spanned 3-days and wrapped up by an electoral sensitization event by officials of the NYSC Scheme both at the National and State level.

As part of the DG's focal points, which stressed on the welfare of Corps members, the DG, Brig. Gen. MK Fadah, Departmental Directors, AG. Director SWAO, Mr Aremu Kehinde, NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, Management team of the Scheme, Zonal and Local Government Inspectors were on ground to ensure the safety of the Scheme's members and to also monitor the success of the exercise across the State.

Alhaji Ahidjo Yahya, Deputy Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, NDHQ, during the sensitization program in Osogbo and Olorunda LGA reasserted the electoral etiquettes and rules that the Corps members' are expected to adhere to before, during and after the poll.

Analysing data from various quarters, Corps members largely adhered to rules and regulations guiding electoral conduct in Nigeria.

In Osogbo and Olorunda polling units, corps members were seen exhibiting topnotch uprightness and devotion as they carry out their duties. The photos attached speak for themselves.

The NYSC Director General Brig. Gen. MK Fadah has tasked the 2022 Batch B Stream 1 Corps members to shun cultism and drugs abuse.

The Director General made this known during his working visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Wednesday. He congratulated the newly sworn in corps members on the successful completion of their course of studies from different institutions across the country which qualified them to be mobilised for the mandatory service.

Giving fatherly advise, Brig. Gen. Fadah implored the Corps members not to use the social media negatively rather that they should use it to propagate good, stressing that there is no society that is 100 percent perfect and without issues.

The Director General also charged members to maintain a high level of discipline as they go about the regimented life on Camp and also in their interaction with others. He stressed that discipline is a key factor in the actualisation of dreams and aspirations.

Speaking on Security, the Director General stated that the Scheme has put all the necessary arrangements in place for Corps members security and welfare while urging that corps members take care of their personal items and be security conscious at all times, taking cognizance of all the security tips they had been taught.

Brig. Gen. Fadah also charged the members to comply with the rules and regulations governing the Camp and abide with the do's and don'ts while stating that their problem is also his problem. "Your problem is my problem, your happiness is my happiness" he stated.

However, the DG hinted that the House of representatives have passed a bill for NYSC Trust Fund which will afford Corps members the opportunity to get a start up for what ever skill they will acquire during their service year through the SAED programme. He stressed the need for them to participate in the SAED In-camp and post-camp programme as such skills acquired will be an added advantage to them.

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator NYSC Osun State, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka thanked the DG for taking out time to visit the State.

She apprised the DG on the state of the Orientation Camp, number of Corps members deployed to the State stating that à total number of 1575 were registered comprising 747 males and 828 female.

She also used the opportunity to intimate the DG on some of the challenges bedeviling the Scheme in the State and also appealed to the fatherly heart of the DG to assist the Scheme in the State in the ongoing infrastructural renovation in the Orientation Camp.

The Director General ended his visit with a reward and encouragement to the three Corps Camp Directors, Over all parade commander, the Dance, band and man ó War and also gave gifts to all the Corps members.

The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General MK Fadah has urged Corps Members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition Programme of the NYSC Scheme.

The Director-General said this while in his welcome address at the Swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2022 Batch B Stream 1 Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Tuesday.

The DG who was represented by the State Coordinator NYSC Osun, Mrs. Abdulwahab Olayinka, charged the Corps Members to avail themselves of the opportunity to acquire skills needed to help them become self employed and self reliant as there are not much readily available white collar jobs.

The Director-General enlightened the members to choose from the variety of skills provided by the NYSC Scheme through the SAED programme.

He reminded the corps members to adhere strictly to the established NCDC protocols of physical distancing, wearing of face mask and regular hand washing as the fight against COVID-19 is not over yet. He also implored them to be vaccinated against the virus if they are yet to do so.

The Director-General implored the members to maintain a high level of discipline and ensure to abstain from social vices such as; Cultism, drug abuse and cybercrime.

He also said the Corps members should avoid using the social media negatively. He said on no account should their social media space be used to spread fake news, hatred and religious bigotry but to use it as a tool to promote unity and development in the nation.

He stressed on the need for the members to be security conscious and to report any suspicious Character or activities around them to appropriate authorities.

Brig. Gen. Fadah reminded the Corps members of the National Pledge and the NYSC Oath of Allegiance taken during their Swearing-in ceremony as it is expected to guide and shape their conduct and character during the
Service year.

Furthermore, he urged them to familiarize themselves with the NYSC Act and Bye-laws as it contains information and guidelines for a successful Service year.

A total of 1553 PCMs comprising of 735 Males and 818 Females were sworn-in by the representative of the Osun State Chief, Hon. Justice Adedapo Olugbenga Adeniji.

The NYSC Osun State has welcomed a new dawn as it witnessed the handing over ceremony of the outgoing State Coordinator Mrs Winifred Ngozi Shokpeka to her successor Mrs Olayinka Alidat Abdulwahab on Monday, 30th May at the Secretariat complex in Osogbo.

During the ceremony witnessed by the management and staff of the Scheme in the State, the outgoing State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka expressed her heartfelt gratitude to members of staff for extending a good hand of friendship which culminated in the success recorded during her tenure in office. She urged them to extend such to her successor.

“I appreciate the Director General, Brig. Gen. MK Fadah and the entire NYSC Management for the sheer privilege of serving as the NYSC State Coordinator in Osun for the past 7months. I salute the strength of the entire staff for their ever available support from the day my tenure began up till now. I couldn’t have done this without them. I’m not leaving with regrets, I am leaving a fulfilled woman” she said.

She urged members of staff to work in synergy with the new State Coordinator and also strengthen all existing relationships and partnerships built over the years and those built while she was in office.

According to her, the mantle has indeed been passed to another noble, capable and seasoned administrator who she knows will run with the vision of the Scheme in the State. She concluded by wishing her successor the very best as she steps in as the 14th Chief Executive of the State.

In her brief remarks, the new State Coordinator, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, said she was happy with the reception accorded her as she entered the Secretariat and this has encouraged her and has given her assurance that she is at home.
“I love the warm reception I received the moment I stepped my foot here. I have indeed been joyfully embraced. I pray that the love and support remains even as we work together.

"I look forward to the cooperation and support from all staff so we can all together build on the legacies of my predecessors and continue to record good success for the Scheme in the State," she added.

The Erstwhile Coordinator in her efforts to familiarize the new State Coordinator with major stakeholders in the State accompanied Abdulwahab to the office of the Commissioner of Police Osun State Command, CP Olawale Olokode who promised to extend the cordial working relationship that has been established with the Scheme and the outgoing State Coordinator to her as she takes over the leadership of the Scheme in the State.

The duo also visited the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon Azeez Olayemi Lawal, who doubles as the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board in his office. The Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs Oladunjoye who welcomed them on behalf of the Commissioner, eulogized the outgoing State Coordinator for her excellent performance during her tenure in the State and warmly welcomed Abdulwahab to Osun State wishing her a fruitful and successful tenure
in the State.

She assured Abdulwahab of the Commission support and committment to the welfare of Corps Members serving in the State. She urged her to emulate her predecessor, assuring her that she would not regret her tenure as NYSC Coordinator in the State as the State is a land of 'virtues.'

It will be recalled that the Erstwhile Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka took over as the 13th Chief Executive 11th October, 2021.

Acting in common participation with one of the corperate social responsibility of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Osun State took to the people of Ikire Local Government Area a share of the Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers Scheme of the NYSC.

The event which took place on Thursday in the Palace of the Akire of Ikire had the presence of the King of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi Olabeloye III, the Akire of Ikire.

Oba Olatunde in his goodwill address expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Osun State NYSC for the kind gesture towards the people of Ikire and offered prayers for Peace and Blessings.

He also called for more collaborations between the NYSC and the Palace, stating that he enjoys the cordial relationship between the Scheme and his Palace and hopes that it continues to foster the growth of Ikire, her people and Corps members posted to the Local Government.

Ọba Olatunde eulogised the NYSC Management for deploying trained Corps members to different sectors of the society, which according to him, has benefited the land greatly. He assured the Corps members of the hospitality of his people and cooperation throughout their stay in Ikire.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka stated that the objective of the Health Initiative is to ensure that people living in rural areas in Nigeria get a level of access to good health care as it is an excellent way to impact positively in the lives of rural dwellers.

Shokpeka, who was represented at the flag off by the Assistant Director, Corps Welfare and Health, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi also mentioned that the NYSC Osun State came with Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacist and other Medical Personnel to carry out medical checkup and administer drugs when necessary to attendees at the event.

She assured the Akire of Ikire and the indigenes of the Scheme's resolve to improve the quality of lives of the people through her programmes and initiatives such as the National Environmental Sanitation which held recently nationwide and the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, which makes free healthcare services available to rural Dwellers across the 36 States of the Federation and FCT.

She stated that millions of people have benefited from the health initiative programme since inception in 2015. According to her, the Scheme through her Corps medical personnel has been able to enrich the quality of lives of the beneficiaries of the Initiative. She stated that the timely intervention of the programme has saved the lives of many in the rural areas.

She concluded by appreciating Ọba Falode and the people of Ikire for coming out in their numbers to participate in the programme. This, she said shows that the Royal Father is a welfarist who looks out for the wellbeing of his people.

Earlier, the Assistant Director, Community Development Service, NYSC Osun State, Mr. Felix Ayibiowu, had explained to the Oba and Attendees that the Health outreach is a national programme and indigenes of Ikire serving in other parts of Nigeria are also participating in the programme. He called on the people to adhere by the health tips given by the medical Corps personnel and to also ensure they follow the instructions of the medical team.

Over 200 people had their vitals checked. Other Investigation were conducted, corps doctors attended to them. Drugs were prescribed and a few referrals were among the activities carried out during the programme.

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola has charged the 202l Batch A Stream II corps members to pursue their life's aspiration and goals wisely and legitimately. He called on the members to utilise the skills they had acquired thereby adding value to themselves and the society as well.

Governor Oyetola who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, gave the charge at the Passing Out Parade of the 2021 Batch A Stream II corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Thursday.

Oyetola commended the members for their patriotic zeal and various contributions to the betterment of the lives of the people of the State. He acknowledged the fact that the corps members have lived up to the ideals of the founding fathers of the NYSC Scheme.

"You have indeed lived up to the dream of the founding fathers of the scheme who conceived NYSC as a means of fostering national unity, enhancing national integration and providing socio-economic development across the nation.

" Your distinguished service has greatly impacted on the socio-economic landscape of Osun State, especially in the rural communities where majority of you served.

"Let me assure you that the people of this State appreciate your immense contributions in the various communities especially in the areas of Education, Health care delivery and Agriculture. There is hardly any community in the State where the presence of the Scheme is not felt", he added.

Oyetola enjoined the members to use the digital space to their advantage and that of humanity stating that they should not use the social media as a tool to spread negativity but rather to harness their digital proficiency and prowess to solve human problems and meet human needs.

"Be a tech-savvy Entrepreneur who commits to continuous development, learning, effective communication and problem solving."

Oyetola assured the Scheme of the continued support of his administration and priority attention to the welfare and safety of corps members in the State.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka had earlier admonished the 2294 corps members on Parade to allow the training of the one year mandatory service to the nation reflect in their everyday life and also in the pursuit of their chosen career path.

She congratulated the members for successfully navigating through the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme and urged them to stay true to the motto of the NYSC even after the service year. She charged the members to embrace skill and work towards becoming self employed and employers of labour rather than job seekers.

" As you celebrate this great feat, my hope for you is that you inculcate the tradition of discipline, hard work, and self reliance that you have learnt. Remember that there are no shortcuts on the road to good success, as such there will be challenges on your way, but I urge you never to compromise your integrity and virtues as rest is only sweet after you have laboured", she said.

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola has charged the 202l Batch A Stream II corps members to pursue their life's aspiration and goals wisely and legitimately. He called on the members to utilise the skills they had acquired thereby adding value to themselves and the society as well.

Governor Oyetola who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, gave the charge at the Passing Out Parade of the 2021 Batch A Stream II corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Thursday.

Oyetola commended the members for their patriotic zeal and various contributions to the betterment of the lives of the people of the State. He acknowledged the fact that the corps members have lived up to the ideals of the founding fathers of the NYSC Scheme.

"You have indeed lived up to the dream of the founding fathers of the scheme who conceived NYSC as a means of fostering national unity, enhancing national integration and providing socio-economic development across the nation.

" Your distinguished service has greatly impacted on the socio-economic landscape of Osun State, especially in the rural communities where majority of you served.

"Let me assure you that the people of this State appreciate your immense contributions in the various communities especially in the areas of Education, Health care delivery and Agriculture. There is hardly any community in the State where the presence of the Scheme is not felt", he added.

Oyetola enjoined the members to use the digital space to their advantage and that of humanity stating that they should not use the social media as a tool to spread negativity but rather to harness their digital proficiency and prowess to solve human problems and meet human needs.

"Be a tech-savvy Entrepreneur who commits to continuous development, learning, effective communication and problem solving."

Oyetola assured the Scheme of the continued support of his administration and priority attention to the welfare and safety of corps members in the State.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka had earlier admonished the 2294 corps members on Parade to allow the training of the one year mandatory service to the nation reflect in their everyday life and also in the pursuit of their chosen career path.

She congratulated the members for successfully navigating through the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC Scheme and urged them to stay true to the motto of the NYSC even after the service year. She charged the members to embrace skill and work towards becoming self employed and employers of labour rather than job seekers.

" As you celebrate this great feat, my hope for you is that you inculcate the tradition of discipline, hard work, and self reliance that you have learnt. Remember that there are no shortcuts on the road to good success, as such there will be challenges on your way, but I urge you never to compromise your integrity and virtues as rest is only sweet after you have laboured", she said.

The Director General of NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim has lauded the one year intensive training initiative of the Leventis Foundation, Nigeria for corps members in Agribusiness.

Major General Shuaibu gave the commendation at the graduation ceremony of the first set of Corps members who had undergone the training in practical Agriculture and Agribusiness at the prestigious Leventis Foundation Agricultural Training School in four States, namely: Osun, Kano, Gombe and FCT.

Speaking on Monday at the ceremony which held in Ilesha, Osun State, the Director General who was represented by the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, commended the Foundation for partnering with the NYSC and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development in enhancing the empowerment and self reliance of corps members. According to him, the Scheme's drive towards ensuring socio-economic development through the empowerment and training of graduate youths to be self reliant birthed the significant step taken by the NYSC and the LFN.

He stated that NYSC will continue to support the Federal Government policy on Agriculture and food security through the reinvigoration of NYSC farms across the country and robust training of more Agro-prenuers. "It is my hope that strategic partnerships with LFN and other Agricultural institutes will lead to new horizons in the achievement of this policy," he said.

The Major General described Agriculture as the future of the nation and therefore urged the graduands to use the skills learned to contribute to the development of the Sector in the country and to step down the knowledge acquired to other aspiring Agro-prenuers and people of their host community as this will go a long way to reduce hunger, poverty and unemployment in the community.

" I want to congratulate the graduating Corps members for being the pioneer set of this reputable programme. Fellow compatriots, as you are aware, Agriculture is the future of this great Nation.

" I therefore urge you to use this skill to contribute to the growth of Agriculture in Nigeria, step down this knowledge to other aspiring Agroprenuers and develop the host community in which your businesses will domicile" he added.

In time past, a Memorandum Of Understanding was signed by the Leventis Foundation and the NYSC to empower corps members through their regular one-year training programme on Agribusinesses and Agriculture, such as poultry, rabbitery, crop production, fishery, snailry, cassava production, palm tree production, among others.

Forty (40) corps members were trained nationwide by the Foundation in Osun, Gombe, Kano and Fct. Osun State graduated eleven corps members comprising 6 males and 5 females who did their primary assignment with the Foundation while undergoing the intensive training.

The ceremony also had in attendance the Assistant Director Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr Aleshinloye Adeniyi, the LGI of Ilesa East, Mr. Sobalaje, other corps members, invited guests and well wishers who witnessed the presentation of Certificates to the graduands.

Cleanliness is said to be next to Godliness and a healthy citizenry births a thriving economy. Based on these assertions, the National Youth Service Corps Osun State joined her counterparts in other States to observe the NYSC National Environmental Sanitation Day as part of her cooperate social responsibility.

Corps members across the four zones and 30 Local Governments of the state and the Area office in Modakeke trooped out in their numbers moving around different markets in the communities as well as the Local Government Secretariats to conduct the environmental sanitation activities.

The Exercise was flagged off by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka at the Olorunda Secretariat today Saturday, 23rd April, 2022.

The State Coordinator who visited three of the four zones, namely: Olorunda in Osogbo Zone, Obokun in Ilesa Zone and Ifelodun in Ikirun Zone , appreciated the Director- General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim and the Management of the Scheme for coming up with such a laudable project which has enhanced the relevance of the Scheme and has also exposed the corps members to selfless service and social responsibility. She further commended the turn-out of the corps members for the historic event.

In her address, Shokpeka stated that sanitation is all-embracing, as it begins with one's personal life and cuts across the society. She stated that a healthy lifestyle and a clean environment are economic boosters which every society must embrace. She urged everyone present to pay keen attention to sanitation.

Shokpeka advised corps members, especially the ladies, not to allow their items of adornment to be in such a way that it can be used as a weapon against them. She urged the corps members to be security-conscious, and avoid acts that expose them to danger of any sort. "Do not allow your hair to be so long that it can easily be dragged by a predator or bandits, be security conscious in all you do, even in the way you dress." She added.

According to her, one way to stay safe is by keeping the surroundings clean and the ambiance beautiful. Speaking further on the importance of environmental sanitation, she emphasised that sanitation goes beyond keeping the environment clean, because" the atmosphere you are in, affects your psychological health and if it's not very healthy it has the tendency of making one depressed".

She decried the rising rate of hypertension in youths and young adults and called on the corps members to embrace healthy living and shun indulgent habits that are harbingers of hypertension and other diseases. "The choices you make today have a great impact on the quality of life you will enjoy tomorrow", Shokpeka stated.

She went on to say that cleanliness indeed begins with what one consumes, and not just the environment. She urged all corps members present to pay attention to their choice of diet as the food many consume are poison rather than medicine due to the processes and preservatives in them. According to her, in order to have a clean environment, one must first develop a healthy lifestyle.

"Cleanliness affects your way of thinking. Sanitation is a necessity in the life of every individual and not just collectively as we are about to do. It’s important for you to see how much change could happen once you go out there to show everyone that you are worthy ambassadors of the NYSC Scheme".

She urged the corps members not to see the Exercise as just another activity, but rather, to become advocates for healthy living and clean environments in their places of Primary Assignment and communities. She reminded them that, “We're not just cleaning the streets, we are also cleaning our minds. A clean environment is a key factor to staying safe", she concluded.

Speaking earlier, the Assistant Director Community Development Service and Special Project, Mr Felix Ayibiowu, thanked corps members for making themselves available and coming out en-mass to participate in the exercise to achieve the mandate of the NYSC Director General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim.

He urged the members to leave a lasting impression and legacy in the communities by giving their best to the exercise. He urged them to diligently carry out the task at hand as ambassadors of the NYSC and the Government.

He lauded the State Coordinator for the exemplary leadership role played in ensuing the success of the programme and for also sending out the Management Team to monitor compliance across the State.

The 2022 Batch A Stream II inter-platoon football, volleyball and athletics competition have come to an eventful end after the finals were played on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede.

In Football, Platoon 9 defeated platoon 8 with a single goal from the team’s captain, Adedoyin Adekunle, putting them in the top spot of the league and winning them the cup. This pushed platoons 8 and 1 into the second and third positions in the league.

In Volleyball, platoon 5 girls defeated platoon 1 girls with 2 points to zero. Platoon 5’s victory put them in the first position in the volleyball games, while platoon 1 and platoon 7 took the second and third positions respectively.

Alongside taking his platoon to victory at the league, Adedoyin was also recognised as the best footballer for the 2022 Batch A stream II set of corps members. The volleyball captain for platoon 5, Oladebo Olabisi (LA/22A/3925) was also awarded the best volleyballer for the set.

In athletics, platoon 8 took the lead in the male 100 metres race, while platoon 5 and platoon 3 took second and third positions.

For the female race, platoon 3 took the first position, with platoons 5 and 4 following as second and third position winners respectively.

The camp games finals had in attendance the State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, the Resident Officer, Mr Tunde Akogun, the Head of Sports Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, as well as the Head of Registration, Mr Lawal Taofik.

The NYSC Osun State Governing Board Chairman and Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Lawal Azeez Olayemi had on Saturday informed Corps Members that the Board is sparing no efforts in ensuring that Corps Members serving in the State enjoy free medical care under the Osun State Health Insurance Scheme.

Hon. Lawal made this known at the Cultural Carnival of the 2022 Batch A Stream 1 Orientation Course which held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Saturday.

Hon. Lawal told the Members that the Board is working assiduously to ensure their inclusion in the State Health Insurance Scheme which according to him will make the members begin to enjoy the same medical benefit that workers in the State enjoy.

Hon. Lawal appreciated the NYSC Scheme, the Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka and the entire Camp Community for their efforts, commitment and reseillance in ensuring the future of the nation is adequately trained and prepared.

Lawal stated that the youths are the future of the nation and therefore nothing should be spared in ensuring their well-being and safety. He lauded the Scheme for introducing the Cultural Carnival into the Orientation program. According to him, this makes it possible for Corps Members to see other cultures other than their own culture in display therefore, creating a deep sense of appreciation and respect of other cultures.

He urged the Corps Members to leverage on the various opportunities provided by the Scheme to ensure they add value to themselves and also create friendships that will transcend now. He called on them to always walk in unity and embrace teamwork as they have done during the three weeks Orientation Programme.

Hon. Lawal while concluding, charged the Members to shun acts capable of soiling their names and be true ambassadors of their Alma Mater and the Scheme. He admonished them to allow the trainings they have received during the Orientation to guide their conduct and attitude while they navigate through the other cardinal programmes of the Scheme.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mrs Winifred Shokpeka, in her speech told the corps members to have fun responsibly as the cultural carnival marks the end of social activities on camp.

She stated that the cultural carnival was incorporated into the Scheme's orientation programme to showcase the depth
and beauty in our diverse cultures which according to her should not divide us, rather bond us together as one indivisible entity.

"our diversity is our strength not our weakness. Therefore, same way we are gathered today to celebrate and appreciate the diverse cultures that we have, let us also in our actions, words and disposition appreciate and celebrate our differences, seeing it not as a threat but strength " she added.

Earlier, the Head of Man ’O’ War, Mr Waheed Dunmoye urged the corps members to be proud of their cultures and encouraged the judges and the participating corps members to give their best in the spirit of the competition.

The event featured various performances , beginning with the camp officials opening dance, to platoons’ cultural performances and then special performances from the Medical Team, Orientation Broadcasting Service, Band, Servicom and the Quarter Guard.

Cultures displayed during the carnival were Igbo culture by Platoon 1, Osun Osogbo by Platoon 2, Ibibio culture by Platoon 3, Tiv, Fulani, Eyo Festival and Edo Benin Culture displayed by Platoon 4, 5.6 and 7 respectively. Platoons 8,9 and 10 displayed the Efik, Urhobo and Ebira cultures beautifully.

At the end of the keenly contested competition sponsored by Guinness and Closeup, Platoon 8 emerge 1st with 47.6points while platoons 9 and 5 emerged 2nd and third with 46.6points and 46.3points respectively.

The event also featured the celebration of Corps Members and Camp officials born in the Month of March by the State Coordinator.

Ife Central Education CDS Group has on Thursday, 10th March, 2022 sensitized students of Ife Girls High School on the importance of health and hygiene.

The Corps Members went out in their numbers to enlighten the students on body care and wellness.

“As females, our hygiene is paramount to us. Our bodies are delicate and must be treated as such. This is why we are here to teach these girls how to care of their bodies”, said one of the Corps Members.

Furthermore, they brought out some of the female students in the class and taught them on the right way to use a sanitary pad. Afterwards, they generously distributed 100 sanitary pads to all the students.

“Women are powerful. And it is girls that grow up to be women. We are glad to be here to teach these young students on the real girl power which is caring for their bodies and hygiene.” added another Corps Member.

The Principal of the School was all joy as she watched the young girls cheer at the benevolence of the Corps Members. She could not contain her gratitude as she kept expressing it to the Corps Members in kind words and rich prayers.

The Inter-platoon Drills Competition for the 2022 Batch A Stream I Orientation Course has finally taken place after several days of intense rehearsals.

The event took place on Thursday at the Parade ground of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede.

The Camp Commandant, Captain E. N. Uzuzu expressed his delight in the commitment and hard work the Corps Members have shown during the rehearsals for the Drills competition. In his welcome address, the Camp Commandant stressed on the importance of Drills in building the physical and mental health of Corps Members and also ensuing team spirit, comradeship, and togetherness amongst them.

He commended the NYSC Management for including the Drills in the major activities on Camp stating that it has gone a long way in instilling discipline, endurance, tenacity and a strong sense of responsibility in the members who participate actively in it.

The Chief Judge, Captain P. M. Egbe while intimating the audience on the criteria for judgement, admonished all the platoons to stay steadfast and put in their best and remember that in every competition there must be a winner and others.

According to him, the competition will be scored taking cognizance of the turn out of the members, march past in slow and quick terms, word of command, eyes right and eyes front, dressing into line, review order, among other criteria.

The competition saw platoon one emerge winner with 169 points, with platoon 7 in second place having 155.5 points and Platoon 3 in third place having 152.5 points.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has organised a sensitization programme for students across the Federation.

In Osun State, the event which held on Wednesday at the Akinorun Grammar School, Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, saw the engagement of the students as they were been sensitized on the importance of gender equality and equity.

Alhaji Abdulahi Adamu, the Assistant Director, Corps Welfare and Health , who doubled as the representative of the Director General as well as the State Coordinator, flagged off the sensitization after delivering the address of the Director General.

While delivering the address, Adamu pointed out the fact that every child, whether male or female, has the right to be taken care of by their parents. "Every child has every right to be educated and protected from all form of harassment. Being taken care of by our parents is not a privilege but the right of every child.

" Therefore, do not allow yourself to be abused nor discouraged from dreaming of a great future. Do not allow yourself to be enticed by monetary gifts. Learn to speak out if anyone harasses you" he admonished.

Adamu also enjoined the teachers present to always ask after the well being of the students. He urged them to be attentive to them and observe any changes any of them may exhibit in order to be able to reach out to them and help them.

Speaking earlier, Mr Aliyu Mohammed from the National Directorate Headquarters, NDHQ, reminded the group of the motto of the National Youth Service Corps which is Service and Humility. According to him, the Scheme renders quality and selfless service to the States and Communities across the Nation. This, he stated is one of the reasons the Director General approved the sensitization to reach out to the grassroot with the message of gender equality.

He urged the students to be attentive and adhere to all they will be taught in the course of the sensitization.

The NYSC Osun State Gender Desk Officer, and Zonal Inspector of Ikirun zone, Alhaja Kehinde Salawu, informed the house on the need for the message to be passed to schools and religious houses alike.

"It was discovered that some schools do not have a Guidance and Counseling Unit but that will be corrected soon", she said.

Pastor (Dr) Taiwo Adedeji in his goodwill address, reminded the participants on the purpose of the gathering which is to create awareness on the role of each gender in the home front and the society at large.

"Many a times, culture is the root cause of gender inequality. In some societies, women are expected to only function in the kitchen and as a baby making machine. They are to be seen and not heard; also some women die prematurely because of domestic violence.
" this is why gender equality sensitisation is very important in every society lest we end up with a dysfunctional society", he added.

Speaking also, the Baale Moboreje, Chief Abass Odukunle who was represented by Alhaji Jayeola Atanda, joined voice with other speakers at the event to harp for the need for a well balanced home front and society where there are no demarcations between the right of the Male and the female child.

"The women at the grassroot need to be informed. This message is going to be preached in the religious houses and broadcasted on the radio and television stations", he assured the gathering.

The Imam of the Lameco Central Mosque, Alhaji Adeyemi, expressed the need for parents to own up to their responsibility of raising goldly children. "Children deprived of parental love and care end up becoming a nuisance to the society. The future of the society is therefore in your hands", he said.

Corps member Godwin Tewase, from the Gender Vanguard Community Development Service Group, delivered a talk on relationships. He defined it as the interaction and connection between people.

"Our connection to people is not supposed to be on the same level, rather, it is suppose to be in circles. The circle involving close blood relationship should be held closer than that of the circles involving others. Hence, there should be boundaries in every relationship outside the family", he emphasised.

The sensitisation ended with an interactive session of questions and answers from the students. The school authority lauded the Scheme for deeming it fit to bring such an enlightening programme to the school and assured of their commitment to the emotional and psychological well-being of the students.

The Red Cross Community Development Service Group of the Ifon-Orolu local government area has organised a sensitization programme for students in their host community.

The event which held on Thursday at the Ifon-Erin High School saw the engagement of the students as important information was passed across.

In his lecture, the President of the group appreciated the students for showing keen interest and also for being attentive. He highlighted the objectives of the sensitization to include enlightenment on the aims, benefits and objectives of the Red Cross Society.

"The Red Cross Society, born out of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded, endeavours—in its international and national capacity—to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found".

"Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being; mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors," he said as he educated the students on some of the aims and objectives of the Society.

Speaking on the fundamental principles of the society, another member of the group accentuated them, which include: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.

"The main functions of the Red Cross are: to extend relief and help to the victims of any calamity – fire, flood, famine, earthquakes, etc, to extend all possible first-aid in an accident.

Furthermore, the students were educated on life-saving skills, how to administer first aid treatment and also, they were shown the items that are found inside a First Aid Box.

The corps member reiterated that if more persons do not take time to learn these important skills, the society suffers for it as more victims would unnecessarily suffer more than they should because no one amongst those available could salvage the situation.

At the end of the sensitization, the group was deeply appreciated by the school management and were encouraged to keep up with the good work, ensuring they show no prejudice in performing their duties.

In line with goal number four of the sustainable development goals; which preaches education for all especially the children, the Education Community Development Service Group of the Ila Local Government Area has organised a quiz competition to enhance the educational standard of her host community.

The competition which was held on the 3rd of February, 2022, at the Igbonibi City Hall, Ila-Orangun, had in attendance twelve schools, the Permanent Secretary and Tutor General, Osun Central Education District Office (OCEDO), Ila-Orangun, Mr Adelani Aderinola, who was represented by Mr Dare Alabi; the Deputy Director, OCEDO, Mr A.O. Agboola and Mr Akin Oyerinde, the Assistant Director, OCEDO, the Executives of the Ila Local Government; Comrade Odewale Yinka, the Council Manager; Alhaji Oyeleke, the Head of Department, Finance; Mr Odeyinka and Mrs Esan Alabi Funmilayo, the Head of Department Social Development, who was represented by Mrs Olaiya Ayobami.

The Group organised the quiz competition amongst the senior secondary schools in the local government area to encourage the students to study hard and also to reward excellence.

Mr Omololu Omojowolo, the Local Government Inspector, in his opening speech appreciated the Group for coming up with such a laudable innovation aimed at improving the intellect of the students in the host community.

He also appreciated the local government authorities and well meaning Ìlà indigenes who supported the corps members in casfh or kind toward the actualisation of the project.

He charged the students to see the competition as a wake-up call to embrace hardwork and diligence in their academic pursuit.

"The targeted schools were informed of the competition in December 2021 to allow them effectively prepare their students for the inter-school debate competition which we all are here for today", he added.

He concluded by wishing the competitors good luck and admonishing them that they are all winners regardless.

At the end of the competition, Ila Technical College came first; the school got a merit award, 7,000 naira for each of the contestants, notebooks and other gift items. In second place was Al-Huda College, Ila and the contestants got a sum of 4000 naira each, as well as, notebooks and other gift items. Ajagunla Grammar School came third with each of the contestants going home with the sum of 3,000 naira and other gift items.

Other highlights of the event include free computer training granted to eleven students, amongst which included some of the participants as well as active students hand-picked from the audience during the debate program, sponsored by Mr Omotayo Babalola, Director, Igbomina Today Resource Center, Ila-Orangun and Publisher, Igbomina Today Magazine.

He offered to pay the JAMB registration fees and also provide free JAMB tutorials for seven of the contestants who are currently in the final classes and preparing for exams.

At the end of the event, the corps liaison officer gave the vote of thanks while the closing remark was given by corps member Ebueku Osayamen, President of the Group; who urged the students to continue in their quest for knowledge which according to him will add immense value to their lives and could eventually change the world for the better.

He thanked the teachers as well, for their input in preparing and prepping the students who are the future of the nation.

Corps members of Boripe Local Government Area have on Saturday, January 15th, 2021 joined other government officials and dignitaries of the local government area to mark the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
 
The event which was held at the Aragbiji Market Square, Iragbiji had top officials in attendance, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrasheed Ayotunde Olabomi the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, the Executive Chairman of Boripe Local Government, a representative of the Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defense, Staff of Boripe Local Government, and Corps members.
 
As wreaths were being laid in honor of these national heroes, it sparked a solemn atmosphere as attendees thought in retrospect about the courageous soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice while fighting to protect and defend the nation during the civil war and subsequent battles. 
 
In his speech, the traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulrasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, said proper care should be given to the families of the fallen comrades as an act of appreciation for laying down their lives in the defense of the nation.
 
 He continued by stating that their actions are a true testament of love for the country and humanity and should be emulated in the way we uphold the honor of our dear nation.
 
The event came to an end with corps members paying their tribute in a beautifully displayed parade.

The Medical Development Group of Ilesa East Local Government Area, has carried out a sensitization on the adverse effects of drug abuse.

The sensitization held on Thursday 25th November, 2021 at Hope Grammar School, Bolorunduro.

The sensitization which had in attendance over 300 students from both the junior and senior secondary school, was led by corps member Okafor Veronica .K, the president of the group and was supervised by the Local Government Inspector, Rev. Oyeniyi Sobalaje.

Corps member Owolabi Faith Omokolade enlightened the students on the adverse effects of drug abuse, letting them know what drug is all about and adverse effects of abusing drugs like cocaine, alcohol, tobacco, among others.

He enlightened the students on some adverse effects such as mental disorder, social violence, armed robbery, lack of respect for elders, social miscreants known as area boys and girls.

"There can also be distinct changes in the physical appearance & the general health of an addict which include emaciated and malnourished look, neglect of personal hygiene and unkempt appearance" he added.

He also stated that sometimes the social problem of substance abuse in most cases result in low, moderate, and high physical and psychological dependence and the emergence of future criminals and illiterates in the society.

"Other common adverse effects of some drugs like codeine include; constipation, euphoria, nausea, vomiting and urinary retention, among others." he concluded.

Other highlights of the sensitization was a question and answer session, which was conducted by corps member Ebere Gentle Victor and distribution of Exercise books and pens to the students.

The Principal and other Staff of the School appreciated the group for the sensitization which according to them, will go a long way in helping the students make the right choices. They further encouraged the group to keep up the good work and ensure such enlightenment is replicated in other Schools in order to effectively curb the menace in the society.

In her response, the President, on behalf of the group, gave special thanks to the NYSC Scheme for the platform provided to impact knowledge to the students and society at large. She also appreciated the local government inspector for his continuous support.
