National Enterprise Challenge 2020 for Nigerian University Students

National Enterprise Challenge is an initiative of the Directors of Entrepreneurship Centers across Nigerian Universities and are being supported by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all current students irrespective of their field of study, undergraduate or postgraduate, full time or part-time. They must however be studying in a Nigerian University.

PRIZE
Top three winners will be awarded grants to start or grow their venture as follows:

1st Prize – N1m
2nd Prize – N750,000
3rd Prize – N500,000
Regional winners (1st to 3rd ) will receive consolation prizes even as they proceed to the finals.

The Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging countries to pursue PhD or Post-doctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at leading universities worldwide

The program’s long-term goal is to accelerate gender equality in STEM by generating conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific careers through alleviating some of the barriers they encounter when enrolling in STEM disciplines. The program is committed to gender parity in science and recognizes that full access to and participation in a STEM curriculum is essential for the empowerment of women and girls. By accelerating gender equality in STEM, the talent and capacities of these women can be developed for the benefit of their local communities, regions and nations.

Fellowship
Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs for eligible expenses up to a maximum of USD $50,000 per year for a PhD and maximum of USD $40,000 per year for a Post-doc and may be renewed through to completion of studies.
Renewal grants are subject to performance, recommendations from supervisors and strong evidence of re-integration plans in the home country

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation aims to stimulate, celebrate and reward engineering entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa

Founded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, it is Africa’s biggest prize dedicated to engineering innovation. It awards crucial commercialisation support to ambitious African innovators developing scalable engineering solutions to local challenges, demonstrating the importance of engineering as an enabler of improved quality of life and economic development.

Who can apply for the Africa Prize?
Applicants must be individuals or small teams.
Individual applicants must be citizens of a country within sub-Saharan Africa. For teams of two or more, the lead applicant (the person who usually participates in most training and other activities) must be a citizen of a country within sub-Saharan Africa.
Applicants must have an engineering innovation, though you do not need to be an engineer to apply.
The lead applicant should be over the age of 18 at the time the applications close. There is no upper age limit.
Industrial researchers and establishments are not eligible.
For the purposes of the programme, the definition of sub-Saharan Africa includes all countries defined by the African Union within Central, East, Southern, and West Africa. The Engineering for Development (E4D) Continuing Education Scholarship Programme awards scholarships for travel and living expenses to candidates from low-​income countries to attend continuing education programmes at ETH Zurich.

The goal of the programme is to enhance the knowledge and skills of future leaders with the perspective of contributing to capacity development and poverty reduction in their home countries.

Eligibility of the candidate
The candidate must hold a completed and recognised Master’s degree from a university and proof professional working experience of at least 2 years.
A minimal English standard of TOEFL level C1. If the continuing education programme requires a minimal level in another language, proof of this level should also be submitted.
The scholarship is open to candidates from Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries and Lower Middle Income Countries classified in the DAC-​list of the OECD.
Candidates need to be accepted by the School for Continuing Education, ETH Zurich as well as the MAS, DAS or CAS programme office.

Young Africa Works-Mastercard Foundation Transforming Nigerian Youths Pogram 2020

About the Training

Through the training, participants will practice using several open source measurement tools and datasets, learn how to collect and analyze their own data, reflect on examples of how advocates have used measurement data to document shutdowns, and get one-on-one time with trainers to build research plans and incorporate measurement and documentation into their advocacy.

On the 1st October 2020, Nigeria will be celebrating its diamond jubilee as it turns 60. The Federal Government of Nigeria under the Leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR has approved an inclusive National Independence Celebration program that will see that the thematic and creative aspects of the event are designed by Nigerians for Nigeria. The FGN wants to use this opportunity to harness the power of Nigeria’s creative minds to create a new brand identity around the anniversary theme which will be celebrated in the public space for one year.




The challenge will include selecting the best slogan, the best poem and the best photograph that best embodies the theme “Together as one”. The best concepts from each category of the challenge will be selected by a mixture of several assessment criteria including a jury. Timeline

Criteria & Guide
1 – The challenge will produce the best content towards celebrating Nigeria @60.
2 – The challenge is open to all Nigerians of all ages and background.
3 – Submissions will be accepted from individuals and team of not more than four people.
4 – All Submissions must be relevant to the theme of the anniversary.
5 – Submissions must be memorable, creative and reusable within the public space for at least one year.
6 – All submissions must be made via the portal and Information to be submitted must include full name and contact details including postal address, contact number and email of Lead Applicant.
7 – All shortlisted applications will undergo screening to confirm identity and owenership.
8 – The jury will score submissions based on relevance to the theme, originality, creativity, impact and presentation.
9 – The four-word slogan challenge requires you to provide a four-word slogan fitting the theme of the Nigeria @ 60 Challenge “Together as @60”.
10 – The Photographs will be used in official postal stamp by NIPOST for a period of one year.
11 – The slogan will be used in any communication material through the year.

Submit Story – 2021 Commonwealth Short Story Prize

OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMONWEALTH COUNTRIES – The Commonwealth Short Story Prize is awarded for the best piece of unpublished short fiction (2,000–5,000 words). Regional winners each receive £2,500 and the opportunity to be published online by Granta magazine, and the overall winner receives £5,000. As well as English, stories are accepted in the Bengali, Chinese, French, Greek, Kiswahili, Malay, Portuguese, Samoan, Tamil and Turkish languages. Translated entries from any language into English are also eligible. If the winning story is a translation, the translator receives additional prize money.

Entry rules
a. Entries, including those in translation, must be made by the original author.
b. Entries will only be accepted via the online entry form.
c. The deadline for receipt of entries is 1 November 2020 (11.59 pm in any time zone).
d. Only one entry per writer may be submitted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
e. The story must be the entrant’s own work.

MCZ Ernst Mayr Research Travel Grants Award 2021 for research in Animal Systematics

The MCZ awards travel grants for research in animal systematics, known as the Ernst Mayr Grants. The principal objective of these grants is to stimulate taxonomic work on neglected taxa. These include taxa with numerous poorly described species, genera and families known to have many undescribed species in institutional collections, taxa for which it is unknown what proportion of the nominal species are synonyms and difficult genera without keys. It is not the aim of these grants to support largely phylogenetic studies of taxa in which the species are reasonably well known, or to support biogeographic studies

The study of type specimens and their correct identification is the greatest need in poorly known taxa. This typically requires visits to other museums, which is what the Ernst Mayr Grants program tries to facilitate.
