The FATE Scholar Programme (FSP) is a FATE Giving initiative. The programme aims to support and enable innovative and entrepreneurial students seeking admission to pursue an undergraduate degree in any STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) course in any accredited public tertiary institution in Nigeria for the 2024-2025 Academic year.

The FSP will support exceptional, high-performing, and future entrepreneurs with the following:

Financial aid
Mentoring and
Internship
Successful applicants will be supported for at least four years of their academic pursuit in any accredited public tertiary institution in Nigeria.

They will be required to provide proof of admission to access the programme’s benefits.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

A Nigerian Citizen.
An exceptional student
Must not be more than 21 years at the time of application.
Planning to study for an undergraduate degree in any STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Course in an accredited public tertiary institution in Nigeria.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must be a full-time assistant, associate, or professor at a university or degree-granting research institution at the time of the application submission.
Post doctoral staff can only serve as a co-PI, not a primary PI.
Applicants must have received their PhD within seven years of submission (e.g., applicants in 2023 must have received their PhD in 2016 or later).
We consider exceptions for applicants who have been teaching seven years or fewer and had delays, such as working in industry, parental leave, leave of absence, etc. This exception request can be documented on the application.
Applicants can submit one application per round.
Faculty can only serve as a PI or Co-PI per round. Applicants cannot serve on two separate proposals.
Applicants can apply a maximum of 3 times within the 7 years post-PhD.

Youth-led Innovation Challenge 2020 BENEFITS
The Work in Progress! team believes that locally-led innovations should be harnessed and supported to solve the challenges that the coronavirus outbreak has heightened. The Innovation Challenge is a competition that Oxfam is launching in Egypt, Nigeria and Somalia. It will provide two €10,000 awards in each country.

Additionally, the winners of the Challenge will be eligible for technical support from our partners including the possibility of mentorshipfrom Innovation Challenge participants in the other project countries. The award is meant to assist each winner to develop, implement and put in full operation an innovative solution to help alleviate their community or business from the impact of the Coronavirus.

Through this innovation challenge, The Work in Progress! project aims to support and learn from youth-initiated innovative action that addresses a common challenge across all three project countries. Planning
The deadline for applications is 24 September, 2020.
Applicants will be invited to present their pitches after the shortlisting is done by the judges.
Winners will be notified shortly thereafter, following which grant contracts will be processed.
The innovation projects will be implemented from October 2020 – February 2021.

Eligibility criteria
The principal applicant should be under 35 years of age. Preference will be given to female-led innovators.
In case of a startup or SME, the applicant must be a registered company in Egypt, Nigeria or Somaliland.
The applicant confirms that the individual or company is not in any way involved in activities such as arms, tobacco, alcohol and gambling industries, registered in so-called tax-havens, or involved in environmental or human rights abuses or corruption.
The proposed innovation project can be implemented in the period of Oct 2020 – Feb 2021.

The Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging countries to pursue PhD or Post-doctoral research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at leading universities worldwide

The program’s long-term goal is to accelerate gender equality in STEM by generating conditions that result in more women pursuing scientific careers through alleviating some of the barriers they encounter when enrolling in STEM disciplines. The program is committed to gender parity in science and recognizes that full access to and participation in a STEM curriculum is essential for the empowerment of women and girls. By accelerating gender equality in STEM, the talent and capacities of these women can be developed for the benefit of their local communities, regions and nations.

Fellowship
Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs for eligible expenses up to a maximum of USD $50,000 per year for a PhD and maximum of USD $40,000 per year for a Post-doc and may be renewed through to completion of studies.
Renewal grants are subject to performance, recommendations from supervisors and strong evidence of re-integration plans in the home country

Who can apply for the Africa Prize?
Applicants must be individuals or small teams.
Individual applicants must be citizens of a country within sub-Saharan Africa. For teams of two or more, the lead applicant (the person who usually participates in most training and other activities) must be a citizen of a country within sub-Saharan Africa.
Applicants must have an engineering innovation, though you do not need to be an engineer to apply.
The lead applicant should be over the age of 18 at the time the applications close. There is no upper age limit.
Industrial researchers and establishments are not eligible.
For the purposes of the programme, the definition of sub-Saharan Africa includes all countries defined by the African Union within Central, East, Southern, and West Africa. This program is brought to Nigeria by the Young Africa Works-Mastercard Foundation in partnership with the Enterprise Development Centre, Pan-Atlantic University.

EDC is teaming up with the Foundation to build the capacity of 40,000 MSMEs with special focus on agriculture and creative sectors especially women-led businesses in Lagos, Kano and Kaduna states. The training will be delivered via EDC’s online learning platform and IVR( Interactive Voice Response) to enable all learners to take part in the lessons on the go wherever they are

About the Training
This course is intended to provide an introduction on how to use open source internet measurement tools and datasets for human rights advocates in Sub-Saharan Africa who are working on initiatives to end or prevent internet shutdowns in their countries. Through the training, participants will practice using several open source measurement tools and datasets, learn how to collect and analyze their own data, reflect on examples of how advocates have used measurement data to document shutdowns, and get one-on-one time with trainers to build research plans and incorporate measurement and documentation into their advocacy.

On the 1st October 2020, Nigeria will be celebrating its diamond jubilee as it turns 60. The Federal Government of Nigeria under the Leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR has approved an inclusive National Independence Celebration program that will see that the thematic and creative aspects of the event are designed by Nigerians for Nigeria. The FGN wants to use this opportunity to harness the power of Nigeria’s creative minds to create a new brand identity around the anniversary theme which will be celebrated in the public space for one year.




The challenge will include selecting the best slogan, the best poem and the best photograph that best embodies the theme “Together as one”. The best concepts from each category of the challenge will be selected by a mixture of several assessment criteria including a jury. The top three finalists will present their work to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, have their work used in celebrating Nigeria’s 60th Anniversary and will also receive cash prizes, in addition to being part of this epoch-making event.

Criteria & Guide
1 – The challenge will produce the best content towards celebrating Nigeria @60.
2 – The challenge is open to all Nigerians of all ages and background.
3 – Submissions will be accepted from individuals and team of not more than four people.
4 – All Submissions must be relevant to the theme of the anniversary.
5 – Submissions must be memorable, creative and reusable within the public space for at least one year.
6 – All submissions must be made via the portal and Information to be submitted must include full name and contact details including postal address, contact number and email of Lead Applicant.
7 – All shortlisted applications will undergo screening to confirm identity and owenership.
8 – The jury will score submissions based on relevance to the theme, originality, creativity, impact and presentation.
9 – The four-word slogan challenge requires you to provide a four-word slogan fitting the theme of the Nigeria @ 60 Challenge “Together as @60”.
10 – The Photographs will be used in official postal stamp by NIPOST for a period of one year.
11 – The slogan will be used in any communication material through the year.
