NPOWER NEWS – Npower Registration closed, Over 5 million Have Applied for N-Power Batch-C

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development wishes to officially inform the general public that registration of Batch C of N-Power has closed on Sunday 9th of August, 2020. The registration which commenced on the 26th of June 2020 was initially scheduled to end on the 26th of July but the Ministry extended the date by two weeks to avail those that were unable to do so to apply. A total of 5,042,001 Nigerian youths have applied as at the end of the exercise.

In a statement in Abuja on Monday 10th of August, 2020, the Honorable Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, re-assured Nigerians that due diligence will be applied during the next stages of the selection to ensure that only duly qualified applicants are enrolled. The Ministry will ensure that the applicants, as well as the general public, are kept fully informed on the progress of the scheme.
The Honorable Minister further added that the N-Power program is aimed to provide the Nigerian youths with opportunities to gain skills for employability and entrepreneurship which will also go along way in assisting the country towards the post Covid 19 economic recovery. She added that women and persons with disability will be prioritized during the selection

The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has set up a Focal Group on the newly approved Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF). The Focal Group is an assemblage of youth leaders and groups from diverse fields, entrepreneurial experts and individuals with youth development and finance experience.

The NYIF Focal Group is entrusted with processing stakeholders’ views and inputs about the Fund and making same available to the NYIF’s Technical Committee. The group will also provide valuable feedbacks on expectations of the youth generally and deliberate on wide ranging issues around youth entrepreneurship and credit access.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare had tasked the Focal Group to “provide useful insights around the challenges faced by youth entrepreneurs and youth with burning ideas and how best they think the fund can assist them. The Nigeria Youth Investment Fund is not just another programme of government. You have the responsibility of coming up with suggestions on how to make NYIF serve the needs of the youth and facilitate turning their ideas into viable businesses, helping them to expand existing businesses.”

Youth Fund for Covid-19 Action Application (Grant up to US$5,000)

The Youth Fund is a new fund designed by young people to support youth action around the world. The successful applicants will be selected by our Youth Compact Champions; a panel of young people with a wealth of experience. Funding grants of up to US$5,000 are available.

To be eligible for funding you must be a registered youth-led organisation, with a bank account, running an existing initiative responding to the COVID19 pandemic and its impact on communities in one or more of the countries listed below. All action must last no longer than 2 months and be completed by the 30th November. We are particularly interested in projects that are supporting vulnerable and marginalised groups or those that are harder to reach.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars & Artists for the 2021-2022
Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries.

Recipients are selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS). The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD and at foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.

Scholarship
The research scholarship is available to post-graduate researchers in any discipline (who hold a master’s degree as a minimum) who are planning to come to Switzerland to pursue research or further studies at doctoral or post-doctoral level.
Research scholarships are awarded for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences and the two federal institutes of technology. Only candidates nominated by an academic mentor at one of these higher education institutions will be considered.

The youth compact champions programme will provide 18 months support, to 35 hard-to-reach Young Leaders (aged 18-30) who have been affected by humanitarian crisis and have experience of leading humanitarian action. These Young Leaders will:

Support the design and evaluation of initiatives by the Compact to deliver on it’s 5 key actions (services, participation, capacity, resources & data).

Mobilise over 1,000 young people around the world to engage in Compact initiatives, supporting over 100,000 people affected by humanitarian crisis.

The Youth Compact Champions programme builds on the collective work, initiatives and passion of the Compact members to date, and is aligned to the Compact’s guidance on working with and for young people in response to the COVID-19 emergency. The programme is currently co-coordinated by the UN Major Group for Children & Youth, ActionAid and Restless Development with support from Compact members including Norwegian Refugee Council, War Child Holland and UNFPA. ActionAid have provided initial funding for the first phase of the programme until December 2020.

The Beijing+25 Youth Task Force is announcing a call for applications to expand the composition of the Youth Task Force that will work in the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) process closely with UN Women, civil society organizations and other stakeholders from September 2020 to September 2021, to ensure the meaningful involvement of young people in the global processes of the 25th review and appraisal of the BPfA.

Program Details

The year 2020 is a confluence of anniversaries including the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Conference and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), the five-year review of the Sustainable Development Goals, the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Security Council Resolution 1325, the 75th anniversary of the UN and the 10th anniversary of the creation of UN Women. As they take stock of progress made in advancing women’s rights and gender equality, all the actors involved in Generation Equality are committed to ensuring that young people are at the center of this process.


Following a call for applications in June 2019, UN Women announced the “Beijing+25 Youth Task Force”, comprising 30 young leaders from different youth-led and youth-serving organizations, with diverse areas of expertise and across all regions of the world. They represent young people in all their diversity and across intersectional complexities. The existing youth leaders have a track record of driving change in their communities and mobilizing young people for the empowerment of young women and girls all over the world.

The Youth Task Force serves on the governance structure of the Generation Equality Forum with a seat on the Core Group. The Core Group is the decision making body of the Generation Equality Forum. The forums centerstage young people and believes in their power and ability to accelerate the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The Youth Task Force has been supporting and guiding the global processes in consulting and engaging young people across the globe.

It is within this context that the Youth Task Force, convened by UN Women, is announcing a call for applications to expand the composition of the Youth Task Force that will work in the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) process closely with UN Women, civil society organizations and other stakeholders from September 2020 to September 2021, to ensure the meaningful involvement of young people in the global processes of the 25th review and appraisal of the BPfA.

Eligibility

The fund seeks to help African musicians who have experienced financial losses due to the COVID-19 crisis. Successful applicants will receive between $1 800 to $4 500 as a one-time relief payment. The funds will be distributed to the selected participants through their managers or agencies.

Payout
You will be eligible to receive a relief payment depending on the amount of money we will raise together.
The relief fund wants to provide each musician with an amount raging between 1800€ – 4500€ depending on how many shows lost. Payments can only be made if money is collected. – If we collect less the fund will pay percentual less than collected. If we collect more we will be able to fund more artists!

Eligible participants must:
1. Be an active member of the She Code Africa Community (sign up here: /scaslacksignup)
2. Have made learning progress in their specified field
3. Show proof of already made conscious learning efforts in their specified fields
4. Possess a working Laptop
5. Be willing to commit at least an hour a day to mentee activities.

How It works
Step 1: Indicate interest by confirming eligibility and applying

Step 2: Scale the application process and get an acceptance / rejection mail

Step 3: Upon being accepted, pairing list would be shared on the private channel for the program on our slack community (you would be added to this )

Step 4: Connect with your assigned mentor and team mates

Step 5: Work with your assigned mentor’s approved learning map on your field for the next 3 months

Step 6: Participate in monthly assessments of your mentor and the mentoring program

Following the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic across the world and with attendant limitations on movements and in-person interactions, we have redesigned this programme to provide support to startup founders across Nigeria who need as much support as they can get to sustain their innovative business ideas, generate revenue and create jobs. The programme and curriculum will focus strongly on business model pivot, digital strategy enablement and financial literacy particularly cashflow management. We believe that this knowledge and skills are essential for times like this and will enable the selected entrepreneurs build their resiliency and competitive advantage during and after this crisis period.

To qualify, entrepreneurs must be graduates with startups that have already launched, be computer literate, aged 25-40 years and have access to a digitally enabled device. US Department of State 2020 Regional Journalism Workshops in Africa Program ( Grant Available)
Africa Regional Services in the Bureau of African Affairs of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to provide digital education to African journalists. If possible, in-person workshops will also be conducted.

The program will promote improved knowledge and understanding of news gathering strategies, media ethics, journalist safety, investigative reporting, and the business of journalism. The program will also provide structured interaction between American and African journalists, which will contribute to stronger professional ties and lasting relationships. Approximately 300 African journalists on the frontline of information gathering and reporting, ages 25 to 40, will participate in 12 virtual workshops (four in French, four in Portuguese, four in English) led by experienced American journalists between October 2020-February 2022. If possible, approximately 100 of the virtual workshop participants will participate in in-person conferences at the end of the series. Please carefully follow all instructions below.

The Regional Journalism Workshops in Africa Program supports the following broad goals:

1.Promote improved knowledge and understanding of newsgathering strategies, media ethics, journalist safety, crisis reporting, and the business of journalism.

2. Provide structured interaction between American and African journalists which will contribute to stronger professional ties and lasting relationships

The list of workshops will include but not be limited to:

· A series of four virtual workshops led by seasoned American journalists fluent in French for 80 francophone journalists representing at least five francophone countries in Africa.

· A series of four virtual workshops led by a seasoned American journalist fluent in Portuguese for 80 lusophone journalists representing at least three lusophone countries in Africa.

· A series of four virtual workshops led by a seasoned American journalist for 80 anglophone journalists representing at least five anglophone countries in Africa.

The following organizations are eligible to apply:
• Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations with previous experience in Sub Sahara Africa

In last 2 years, the Facebook sponsored “Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Digital Programme” organized by FATE Foundation held across several Nigerian cities. We recorded great impact and engagements across all programmes and reached 640 StartUps providing their Founders with relevant knowledge, tools and skills to grow sustainable and digitally enabled businesses.

In last 2 years, the Facebook sponsored “Aspiring Entrepreneurs: Digital Programme” organized by FATE Foundation held across several Nigerian cities. We recorded great impact and engagements across all programmes and reached 640 StartUps providing their Founders with relevant knowledge, tools and skills to grow sustainable and digitally enabled businesses.

Following the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic across the world and with attendant limitations on movements and in-person interactions, we have redesigned this programme to provide support to startup founders across Nigeria who need as much support as they can get to sustain their innovative business ideas, generate revenue and create jobs. The programme and curriculum will focus strongly on business model pivot, digital strategy enablement and financial literacy particularly cashflow management. We believe that this knowledge and skills are essential for times like this and will enable the selected entrepreneurs build their resiliency and competitive advantage during and after this crisis period.

To qualify, entrepreneurs must be graduates with startups that have already launched, be computer literate, aged 25-40 years and have access to a digitally enabled device. Each applicant will also be required to upload relevant documents as indicated with detailed information about them and their business as the case might be.

The AEP Digital (Virtual Edition) curriculum has been designed to provide insight to aspiring and budding entrepreneurs to see diverse market potentials, understand how to create a structured business model and learn and use digital strategy to grow their businesses. The curriculum is themed “Building a Digitally Enabled StartUp in the COVID-19 Pandemic” and will also enable the entrepreneurs implement strategies that will ensure online visibility using different digital tools and strategies.

These sessions will be facilitated by various industry leaders and professionals across the entrepreneurship ecosystem using a pedagogy approach to build networks amongst the entrepreneurs and encourage group/team work for better learning. The robust learning structure is a combination of virtual interactive class sessions, workshops, case studies, entrepreneurship book reviews, plenary sessions, masterclasses and group activities.
