Hass Avocado farming is a very lucrative business worth everyone’s investment. Regardless of how much your job pays you, you can earn so much more from investing in Hass avocado farming. It is a low-risk business requiring low-cost input and low maintenance costs, with a readily-available market worldwide.

The Hass variety is the most commercially popular avocado because of the good market it enjoys in Europe compared to other varieties. It’s originally from Guatemala and has a unique feature of turning dark purple when ripe.

Hass Avocados mature after two and a half years and a single mature tree can produce more than 1000 (200kg) fruits under good management practices. An acre of farmland will accommodate 150 trees at 17ft and 17ft spacing, making 25 trees per plot.

Nutritional Components of Hass Avocados
The Hass avocado contains a variety of nutrients, with water constituting 73% of it.

It has 15% fat, 8% carbohydrates, and 2% protein.

A serve of avocado (68g) consists of 109 calories, with 0.5g of sugar, which is very low compared to other fruits.

Hass avocado is rich in fiber which constitutes 79% of the carbohydrate content.

Hass avocado is a rich source of fatty acids, with some studies suggesting its healthy fats serve as protection against inflammation, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

The fruit is also very rich in essential vitamins and minerals, including folate (B9), Vitamin K1, potassium, copper, Vitamins E, B6 and C.

Health Benefits
Avocados, generally, have a high content of antioxidants and other essential nutrients. It is therefore not surprising that the fruit comes with many health benefits which include the following:
1. Avocado promotes heart health: According to the results of extensive research, consuming avocado can help reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, including the bad cholesterol known as low-density lipoproteins (LDL).

2. Aids Weight Loss: Although the Hass avocado is a great source of fatty acids, giving the idea it might promote weight gain, it enhances weight loss. It provides satiety, making people feel full after eating a meal with avocados. That way, the desire to eat more is reduced, thus helping control calorie intake.

3. Treatment of Arthritis: Several supplements are made from avocados, and are used in the treatment of symptoms of arthritis. Studies have shown that these supplements are effective in reducing the symptoms of knee and hip arthritis.

The Economic Importance of Hass Avocados
Hass Avocados are a good source of income for farmers, and there remains a huge potential to be tapped in the sector.

The global market value is expected to hit $23 billion by 2027. Avocado export is a source of foreign earnings for the country, especially Hass avocados.

Hass avocado extracts are used in the cosmetic industry for the production of facial and hair oil. This trend further proves the extensive value chain of avocado production and processing.

Avocado growing is mostly a permanent investment, and therefore, there is a need for careful planning before venturing into it.

Agriculture / Reasons Why Hass Avocado Is Healthy For Kids by AvocadoNigeria: 8:38pm On Jan 29, 2020
Hass Avocado is one of those superfoods, super-fruits (yep, that’s right!), kids should eat—and eat more of. Like other types of brightly coloured, good-for-you fruits (think: raspberries, blueberries and blackberries), Hass avocado is one of the healthiest to add to your kid’s diet.

When it comes to hass avocado, you probably think guacamole. And although that’s certainly one way to get your kids to eat it, Hass avocado is trendy right now—popping up in smoothie recipes, on toast or as a healthy swap in sandwiches.

Although the green colour alone can be enough for you kid to snub it, like kale, spinach and Brussels sprouts, stick with it and continue to offer it regularly. Here are 6 reasons why avocado is healthy for kids and how to get it in their diets.

1. They Pack a Nutritional Punch
When it comes to getting nutritional bang for your buck, Hass avocados are a great choice. With 20 vitamins and minerals including vitamins B5, B6, C, E, K, folate and potassium, your kids will get a lot of nutrition without a lot of calories.

2. They’re Heart-Healthy
Hass Avocados are an excellent source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, healthy fats that can help reduce bad cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease later on in life.

3. They Can Boost Brain and Eye Health
Polyunsaturated fats like those found in avocado are vital for brain growth and development during pregnancy, for babies and children. Hass Avocados also contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which are carotenoids or plant pigments, found in the eyes that can improve memory and processing speed, one study found.

4. They’re Naturally Nutritious.
Hass Avocados are naturally sodium, sugar and cholesterol-free.

5. They Give Vegetables a Boost
Eating Hass avocado along with nutrient-dense vegetables helps kids to better absorb the fat-soluble nutrients from them like vitamins A, D, K and E.

6. They’ll Satisfy Your Kid’s Hunger
Studies show kids don’t eat enough fiber, especially because they’re not eating enough fruits and vegetables. The number of fiber kids needs vary by age, so be sure to check out the chart with recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020.

In conclusion, Hass Avocado is a great source of fiber: one ounce has nearly 2 grams. Since fiber is digested slowly, it helps kids feel fuller longer.

Studies show fiber may reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes and obesity. Getting enough fiber every day also keeps your kid’s GI system moving and working properly which prevents constipation.

Avocados are considered a “superfood” and have a special position in the food calorie pyramid. Avocados are rich in various nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. They are also a good source of monounsaturated fatty acids and have a low sugar content.

They are a good source of energy and contain a number of essential vitamins and minerals. Avocados contain calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese, phosphorus and zinc. They also contain minerals such as vitamin C, B6, B-12, A, D, K, E, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin.

Furthermore, they are a great source of dietary fiber, and a single serving can provide more than 40% of the daily requirement!

Avocados are rich in potassium and successfully balance the potassium to sodium ratio which is vitally important to overall health.

According to CAC (California Avocado Commission), a medium-sized Hass avocado contains almost 22.5 grams fat. Two-thirds of this fat is of the monounsaturated variety, and they are also very low in fructose.

Perhaps most importantly, avocados have a unique collection of organic compounds like phytosterols, carotenoids, and flavonoids.

CLEANSING APPLE AVOCADO SMOOTHIE
1 cup plain unsweetened almond milk
4 cups loosely packed spinach — that's about 2 large handfuls
1 medium avocado — peeled and pitted
2 medium apples — any kind you like, peel on, cored and quartered (if not using a high-powered blender such as a Vitamix, cut into a rough dice)
1 medium banana — cut into chunks and frozen
2 teaspoons honey — or maple syrup plus additional to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger — or 1/4-inch knob of fresh ginger (if not using a high-power blender, mince the ginger first; use less than 1/2 teaspoon if you'd like a more subtle taste. This smoothie has some zip!) Small handful of ice cubes
.
Optional additions: chia seeds — flaxseed, protein powder, almond butter or other nut butter of choice.
.
In the order listed, add the almond milk, spinach, avocado, apples, banana, honey, ginger, and ice to a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness and spices as desired.

Enjoy immediately.

The avocado is light green, pear-shaped, and often mistakenly called a vegetable. Avocados are actually fruits and they are packed with minerals, vitamins, and phytonutrients, which are beneficial chemical compounds that naturally occur in plants.

Avocados are not only tasty to eat, they are also good for the skin. An avocado face mask will treat skin disorders and keep the face looking smooth and beautiful.

Most of us grew up knowing about the nutritional benefits of yogurt. You’ve probably even incorporated it into your diet through smoothies or fruit-laden afternoon snacks. And that’s great, but did you know yogurt can also be applied topically as part of a skin care routine to help you find the youthful skin you’ve been searching for? It’s true!

First, though, let’s focus on yogurt and see why it can be so great for your skin.
What Makes Yogurt So Great? Simply put, it’s packed full of vitamins and minerals like: B12, B2, B5, Calcium, Lactic acid, Zinc, Alpha hydroxy acids

Avocado & Yogurt Face Mask Uses: Nourishing, Moisturizing, Hydrating, Lubricating

Avocado & Yogurt Face Mask Ingredients: Yogurt, Olive oil, Avocado

Avocado & Yogurt Face Mask Recipe: Pour 1 teaspoon of olive oil into a small mixing bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon yogurt.
Mash ¼ of an avocado with the back of a fork and then add to the bowl.
Mix well until the ingredients form a paste.

How To Apply An Avocado & Yogurt Face Mask: Wash your face and neck with warm water and an oil-free cleanser to remove makeup and open pores.
Spread the mask on the skin of your face, neck, and décolleté.
Leave it to settle into your skin for fifteen minutes.
Remove the mask by wetting your face with lukewarm water and gently scrubbing it away with circular movements of your fingers.
When the mask is all gone, rinse again with cool water.
Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.

Hass avocado farming is worth investment. It's less risky, very low cost input, low maintenance and ready available market worldwide. ADVICE ON PLANTING AVOCADO SEEDLINGS.

Before you plan to plant avocado seedlings, there are things you need to know and keep in mind.

1) That avocado plants need deep loose soil.
2) That avocado seedlings can grow in the southern region of Nigeria excluding the coastal strip because of the saline nature of the soil.
3) We currently don't have up to 10 hectares of standards Hass Avocado farm in Nigeria not to talk of meeting the current demand for avocado fruits.
4) We have three main varieties of grafted avocado

i. Hass avocado
ii. Fuerte Avocado
iii. Pinkerton
However, there are over 50 varieties of Avocados and the value of the varieties fall in that order.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE PLANTING AVOCADOS
I want to categorically state that in planting avocados, the holes are the most important investment. I have said earlier that avocados need deep loose soil and if you don't provide such condition, be sure you are wasting yourself. Most people do make mistake of digging a very big hole, remove the soil and then plant the seedling down there, that one is VERY WRONG!!!!!!!!!

HERE ARE WHAT TO DO
~Do at least a 3ft by 3ft by 3ft hole
~Mix the top soil with manure (possible 1 wheelbarrow of manure)
~ Before you return the soil with manure, look for leaves, grass etc and place them at the bottom of the hole, then return the soil back to the hole until it's about to be filled them plant your seedling.
~ Ensure you don't cover the stem beyond where it reached in the bag/tube
~ Of importance to note is that avocados don't like water logging. Don't leave a hole that will retain stagnant water, this will lead to rotting of the plants.
-Space your plant at least 5-6 metres apart.

If you do the above, be assured that you will smile to bank after three years of planting.
