Refuting recent claims by people online that video vixens have to sleep with directors to get roles, model and vixen, Fagbemi Adesola, has said she detests the general notion that people have about her profession. In an interview with Saturday Beats, the dark-skinned vixen stressed that she had to struggle to get to where she is today.

“When people say vixens have to sleep with directors to get roles, it hurts me. When I started this job, I know the number of auditions I went for. The first video I shot, I was paid N6,000. The second video, the director didn’t even pay me anything, I had to walk home that day. I am not saying these things don’t happen; if a lady doesn’t make herself available to a director, they won’t force anything on her. Some of them are very professional; they don’t mix business with pleasure. Personally, I don’t do that, I can appear half naked but I don’t take rubbish.

“About being poorly paid, it used to happen. About two to three years ago, the pay wasn’t good. I took a stand not to go below a particular price. If a vixen stands on her feet and insists on a price, then she would be paid well. The industry is now more lucrative than it used to be. We are able to make in a day the salary some people make in a month. But if I tell you that I haven’t been poorly paid before, that would be a lie. It is not easy to stay in shape; I have to sacrifice a lot of things because of my job. I do not eat anyhow,” she told Saturday Beats.

Revealing why she decided to become a vixen, Adesola said it was fuelled by the need to survive after she lost her father when she was 10.

“I decided to become a video vixen after I left secondary school. I lost my dad when I was ten years old so after my secondary school education, my mother told my siblings and me to look for jobs to cater for ourselves. Following her instruction, I got a job as a secretary in a modelling agency when I was 17.

“As a secretary; I used to attend to the models that came into the agency for jobs. From there I developed an interest in modelling and immediately I told my boss about it, he advised me to take some professional pictures. After that, it was hard to get modelling contracts. Subsequently, my boss called me and asked if I would like to feature in a music video. Then I stopped working for him because I wanted to do a part-time course. I started going for several auditions and even though I didn’t get noticed immediately, I was consistent. After a while, a renowned music director invited me over for a shoot and that was the beginning of my career,” she said.

Speaking about how her mother reacted to the news that she would like to become a model, Adesola said, “My dream is to be a lingerie model but it is not really recognised in Nigeria, so I decided to be a video vixen since it is still in line with being a lingerie model. When I told my mum about my choice of profession, she warned me never to go naked. The first time my mum saw a picture of me in a bikini, she screamed.

“I had to tell her to calm down, that it was the nature of the job. She wasn’t really happy because I used to stay out late at night but it was due to the fact that we had to shoot overnight some times.

“Being a video vixen is stressful; when we get called for jobs, it is always time-consuming because of the process involved. We shoot back to back; we work even in the midnight. Sometimes we have to shoot in abandoned warehouses. Some of these locations don’t have provision for people to sleep; however, some directors are nice enough to make extra provision for us sometimes. In all of these, I am happy that the job has gained a lot of appreciation over time.”

Crime22-year-old To Be Hanged In Ekiti For Armed Robbery by axcer(op): 5:38am On Jan 10, 2019
An Ado-Ekiti high court on Wednesday sentenced one Alonge Ajayi, 22, to death by hanging for armed robbery.

Justice Lekan Ogunmoye held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and consequently found Ajayi guilty as charged.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 22-year-old robbed with guns on Oct. 30, 2017, at Ikere, Ekiti.

He was arraigned on Feb. 27, 2018, on a count charge of armed robbery but he pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Folashade Abe, Ajayi and two others had a gun duel with the police during which two of the robbers were killed and the convict arrested alongside his motorcycle.

Abe said that the gun duel happened some months after the convict and the others robbed one Mr Henry Afolayan and his family members of phones, N100,000 and other valuables as they were returning from church service.

Abe said that the armed robbers also came on a motorcycle.

She said that one of the phones was recovered from the convict when he was arrested, adding that two guns were recovered from him.

To prove its case, the prosecution represented by Mr Kola Kolade, called four witnesses and tendered exhibits including the two guns, five live cartridges, phones and one Bajaj motorcycle as well as a statement from the convict.

The convict was represented by Mr Kayode Oyeyemi, who did not call any witness for his defence.

CrimeSalesman Stabs Boss, Demands N4m For 18 Months’ Work (Photo) by axcer(op): 5:28am On Dec 22, 2018
The police in Lagos have arrested a salesman, Charles Ogbonna, for assault after he allegedly stabbed his boss in the chest and back.

City Round learnt that Ogbonna had asked his boss, Eze Nwachukwu, to pay him N4m so he could set up his own business after working for the man for 18 months.

It was gathered that Ogbonna assisted Nwachukwu to sell foodstuffs at a warehouse in Boundary Market in the Ajegunle area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt that there was an agreement that Ogbonna would serve the businessman for five years after which he would be given money to start his own business.

His service was however terminated by the boss in October 2018 over stealing allegation.

Around 10am on Sunday, December 16, Ogbonna was said to have visited Nwachukwu at his house on Ben Onyeka Street, Olodi Apapa, during which he was reportedly treated to a meal.

It was learnt that trouble started when Ogbonna asked Nwachukwu to pay him for his service and the boss insisted to speak to his (Ogbonna’s) brother, identified simply as Honourable, who acted as an intermediary between them.

As Nwachukwu went to his bedroom to pick a sheet of paper, Ogbonna reportedly followed him and stabbed him in the chest and back, demanding N4m from the boss.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that neighbours were drawn to the commotion resulting from the attack. They rescued Nwachukwu and rushed him to a hospital while Ogbonna was handed over to the police at the Trinity Police Station.

The 35-year-old businessman told the police that he wanted to write his phone number for the suspect to give Honourable when he suddenly attacked him.

He recalled, “I sell foodstuffs at Boundary Market. Sometime in 2016, Honourable brought Ogbonna from Ebonyi State to work for me. It was agreed that he would serve me for five years after which I would ‘settle’ him. He was supposed to spend six months to learn the business and the period was not part of the five years. He had just spent 18 months out of the five years when I sent him back to the village in October because I caught him stealing my goods.

“I was sleeping that Sunday when Ogbonna came to my house. He said he was coming from Aba, Abia State and decided to visit us. He said he was hungry and my wife gave him the food she had cooked for me. After he finished eating, we started discussing in the living room. He asked me to pay him. I was surprised because he had not fulfilled the agreement of the service.

“When he insisted that I pay him, I demanded to discuss with his brother on the phone on how to go about it. I went inside the bedroom to get a sheet of paper I could use to write my phone number for him when he appeared with a knife and stabbed me in the chest.

“When I wanted to shout, he pushed me on the ground and stabbed me in the back. He asked me to transfer N4m to his account or else he would kill me. We dragged each other to the doorstep as I struggled to collect the knife from him. If not for my neighbours who responded, he might have killed me.”

Nwachukwu’s wife, Gift, said she had left Ogbonna and her husband at home that day while she went to the market to buy some items.

She said she was at the market when Ogbonna called her that Nwachukwu was unconscious.

“I left for the market while he (Ogbonna) was eating. Some minutes after I got to the market, I called my husband, but he did not pick his calls. Ogbonna later called me with my husband’s phone. He said something was wrong with my husband, and that I should come home. By the time I got home, my neighbours had taken him to a hospital. They told me it was Ogbonna who stabbed him.”

In his statement to the police, the 24-year-old salesman allegedly admitted to the crime, adding that he regretted his conduct.

He said, “I am from Ebonyi State but I was born and brought up in Benue State. I came to Lagos in 2016. Presently, I am not doing anything. Mr Nwachukwu is my boss. I went to his house that day and begged him to ‘settle’ me. When he was reluctant, I entered the kitchen and picked a knife. I used it to stab him in the shoulder. I am very sorry for what I did. I did not know what came over me.”

A police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, subsequently brought Ogbonna before an Ajegunle Magistrate’s Court on one count of assault.

The charge read, “That you, Charles Ogbonna, on December 16, 2018, at 10.30am, on Ben Onyeka Street, Olodi Apapa, in the Apapa Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Eze Nwachukwu, by stabbing him in the back and chest with a knife, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

But the defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The complainant, who is reportedly on admission at an undisclosed hospital, was not in court when Ogbonna was arraigned on December 18.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko, denied the defendant bail. She said she would need to see the degree of the injury before she would rule on the bail application.

The case was adjourned till January 15, 2019.
