I tried to type "makes". As you know, the letter "s" is right across the letter "e" on a QWERTY keyboard. It can be a pain to type on a touchscreen phone so I use SwiftKey and Swype's predictions but sometimes they don't help a lot.

Heck I even cheered the father that beat his daughter's rapist to death and that wasn't even self defense. Give them all medals I say!

Oh I forgot to add, with respect to your initial Zimmerman reference, I consider it wishful thinking in this case. Nigeria has no such "stand your ground law" which helped Zimmerman escape his cold murder.

See that evade or retreat clause? It's ALWAYS the sensible thing to do in self defense, generally speaking, even in dangerous situations. But again, she was a minor, and probably uneducated.

One assumption you are making though is that she set out to kill him, you seem to believe she deliberately went for his jugular in the moment the man was pummeling her. Put a gun or knife in the hands of a lay person in a crisis situation and you are more likely to end up with unintended fatalities than not. We can debate the problem of lay people defending themselves and how it will more likely lead to fatalities than a trained policeman who has been taught to calmly shoot a leg in a moment of crises. But with that being said, even trained policemen in a moment of fear for their lives have killed tons of people too.

Nope I never assumed she set out to kill him. Read my posts carefully, I've kept on saying she made a mistake and she's a child who didn't know better and acted on impulse.

It is all unforunate but this does not negate the fact that she killed someone and does not give anyone any right to say "it serves him right" and cheer her on for a mistake that has likely already scarred her and her kids for life.

This is as clear cut a case of self defense as it can get. If people are saying they don't agree with the legal provision of self defense, that's one thing, that's another entirely separate debate. But to say this isn't self defense is a bit of a head scratcher.

Just in case you're referring to me, I never said it's not self defense. If you weren't referring to me you can ignore the rest of this riposte.

What I said is that she didn't have to kill him in self-defense. If push came to shove she could have wounded him, but even that is a last resort.

Say, why do sensible policemen in developed countries shoot criminals in their legs or arms or something - to immobilize them and bring them to book - rather than head shots IF THEY CAN manage it? Can't we tout self defense there as well?

I always root for the underdog but taking someone's life outside a legal system is never something to be cheered, even when it seems the person deserves it.

As for me I have raised my point "killing someone is wrong even when it was a mistake or when you were frustrated into doing it or you are a minor and you didn't know better". I don't believe she will surely win this case if it gets into any court. I feel very sorry for all she had to go through, and now I rest my case.
