Lol at Arab-wannabe. Somalis speak their own language and have their own culture. Just because they share more political ideology with Arabs than africans doesnt mean we are arab wannabes. Somalis care about religion and the rest is politics as Ethiopia is Christian, and we are Muslim. Somali culture cannot even be penetrated by outsiders as its hostile and xenophobic to non Somalis. Our society is run by clans and sub clans and sub sub clans. So foreigners cannot change our culture, thus why we have the oldest customer law still in practice, our own language, culture, customs despite being in a region that traded with asia, europe and middle east.

Saying Somalis are Arab wannabes is like Saying Pakistanis are arab wannabes because they are not Hindu. Certain interests align and it just so happens Somalis are Muslims, our enemy is Kenya and Ethiopia who are Christian and we have a long history with Arabs and a bad history with our neighbors in Africa. I am sure if Somalia was in Yemen we would have beef with Arabs as we are Nomads who graze and took over large swath of land. For Arabs it makes sense to support us as we destabilize Kenya and Ethiopia, and this also benefits us. So geo politics along with religion tie Somalia more closer to Arabia.

Look at Ethiopia they are Christian (government) and they have the AU HQ in Addis, they have no love for Bantus, they are simply playing the card that was handed to them. So they have to form a coalition of Africans against Somalia/Djibouti/Egypt/Eritrea.

Somalis played an instrumental role in the history of Islam. It was in the Somali city of Zeila that the prophets companions got shelter from Arabs who wanted to kill them.

Somalis became muslim before Iraq, Egypt and many other parts of the Arab world. We spread Islam in to Ethiopia, and Kenya. We defeated the Portuguese. And today are not controlled by the West despite being a strategic locations

Yes i know the sentiment, but Somalis are die hard Muslims who i hear even harbored prophet Muhammad, some of them became Muslims even before some parts of Arabia, so i should expect the Arabs to respect them, but only Turkey comes to their aid. Consider that to the way the west who colonized and christianized parts of Africa come to our aid (their motives notwithstanding), when Somalia is only a stone's throw away from Saudi Arabia. It is really sad the way these arabs overlook them, they're really hypocritical people considering their history.

Every country that is Arab/muslim doesnt meat it has good relations with Somalia.

Somalis have good relations with Egypt, Yemen simply cause of trade. Especially Yemenis as we are only 20 miles apart from each other and the long history of them running to Somalia when escaping persecution and vice versa.

There is also many Wars in which Arabs/Turkey fought along side Somalis against Portugal and Ethiopia. Hell, we even helped Arabs defeat the Portuguese in Kenya.

Somalis are actually more liberal than many arabs except Turkey. As our clan system treats women equally more so than Arab women are treated in their society as they are not as tribal.

Somalis do get a lot of respect when it comes to spreading Islam in Africa, it was us who gave refuge to the prophets companions (they settled in northern Somalia, the city of Zeila). We pushed Islam in to Ethiopia and Kenya.

Again back to relations with Arabs, not all arabs are connected. Yemen and Egypt have more historical ties with Somalis than say Iraqis or Moroccans.


As for Arabs coming to the Aid of Somalis, they do but Turkey has been more public in terms of building infrastructure rather than handing out money like arabs do that can be stolen by politicians. Unfortunately Somalis because of their strategic locations also get a lot of attention from groups like ISIS and others who come to Somalia to wage war against non Muslims: This hasn't changed as it has happened in the past even during the war in the 1500's against Ethiopia and Portugal many Arabs and Turks came to Somalia and fought with us.

So politics is not very clear cut. Egypt cares more about Somalia now days because of Ethiopia building a dam and wants a stronger Somalia.

Somalia political goals are more in line with those of Egypt than the rest of Africa as Ethiopia is our enemy.
