The race to clinch the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential ticket got more interesting yesterday with the entrance of former President Goodluck Jonathan; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade; and Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva.

Various groups and supporters of the quartet obtained the N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms for them.

Apart from intensifying the jostle for the APC ticket amid contestations over zoning, the emergence of Jonathan, Lawan and Sylva, has raised further puzzles over President Muhammadu Buhari’s perceived anointed successor.

Recently, President Buhari said he would not disclose his preferred successor because if he did, the person would be killed.

Of late, fingers had been pointed in the direction of many aspirants as the would-be-anointed candidate. Also, no fewer than five aspirants had at one time or the other been presumed to be the anointed one.

They include Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of State for Education, Chief Emeka Nwajiuba; Science and Technology Minister, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; African Development Bank, AfDB, President, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina; and Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Yesterday, the number of those perceived as the preferred choice rose to eight with the emergence of Jonathan, Lawan and Sylva.

Political associates of Lawan under the aegis of the National Stability Project, NSP, led by Chief Sam Nkire, who is a member of the National Caucus of the APC as well as pioneer caucus leader of Abia APC, and 15 serving senators, purchased the form for the senator, who represents Yobe North in the Senate, saying they have Lawan’s backing to buy the forms on his behalf.

Also, while a group of Fulani herdsmen and Almajirai picked the forms for Jonathan, some APC faithful under the aegis of Northern Solidarity Group, NSG, obtained the forms for Sylva.

Amidst attempt by loyalists of former president Goodluck Jonathan to stop him from running on the All Progressives Congress ticket, the former president, has formally met with the National Chairman of the ruling party in Abuja, apparently to clarify some grey areas regarding his candidacy.

Former President Jonathan, who was reported to have rejected a N100 million nomination form procured for him by some Fulani pastoralists, later met behind closed doors in Adamu’s house.

A source close to the former president said that the meeting, whose details were not made public, lasted between 9pm and 10 pm in a bid to sort out some grey issues regarding Jonathan’s bid to fly the party’s presidential flag in next year’s poll.

It was learnt that the confusion that trailed the purchase of the form for Jonathan arose because of the spirited efforts by his core loyalists in the People Democratic Party, PDP, to dissuade him from joining the APC and running on its platform, saying that such would be detrimental to opposition party and belittling of his image.

According to a reliable source, the former president had concluded plans to accept the nomination form and meet with the APC leadership since Sunday morning but was strongly prevailed upon by those seen as his ‘inner caucus friends’ to shelve the move and remain in the PDP even without being active in the party.

“These people have been pressurizing Jonathan until the very last minute not to accept to run on the APC ticket no matter how tempting the conditions may be. That was why the former president did not present himself to the APC National chairman on Sunday when the form was to be formally presented to him by the Almajiri who want to show him appreciation for what he did for them during his tenure by building schools and rehabilitating them,” the source said.

“The main argument of those opposed to Jonathan running on the APC ticket is that it would be belittling to his image and standing in the world for him to do so given where he had been and what he represents as a former president of Nigeria. But the point is that the deadline for picking the form is this week and if he does not accept the form, the window would be closed and the opportunity lost,” one source explained.

“That was why the former president had to meet Adamu last night and their meeting was very productive as both men came out happily at the end of the one-hour meeting in Adamu’s house in Abuja,” the source explained.

It will be recalled that following the purchase of the form for Jonathan, his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, had described the action as insulting and unacceptable to Jonathan, saying that he was not consulted.

But a close source confirmed last night that Jonathan was moving ahead with the plan to run on the APC ticket.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has called for prayers and support of Nigerians to enable him succeed on the task ahead of him

Adamu, represented by the Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, at the APC Stakeholders valedictory session in Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone harped on unity of party members noting that that APC would provide a level playing ground for all its aspirants at the forth coming primary elections.

The APC chairman urged aspirants to accept the outcome of the forth coming primaries in good faith, unite and work for the success of the party beyond 2023, assured that the party will provide a level playing ground for all.

“I want to appeal to all aspirants to accept the results of the primary election in good faith and not to leave the party but stay to build it to succeed and rule beyond 2023. There is surely a reward for every loyal party member.”

Presidential spokesman, Bashir Ahmad, Monday night, confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and has picked one of its presidential nomination forms.

Ahmad, who is Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on the New Media had at about 8:35pm, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle tweeted “so Goodluck Jonathan has dumped the opposition PDP and now member of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

Speaking in a telephone chat, in Abuja, he explained that all circumstances point to the fact that the former President would be seeking to return to office on the platform of the party that removed him from office more than seven years ago.

According to Ahmad, a political party will sell nomination and expression of interest forms to only its registered member, adding that nobody will pay so much as N100 million for a cause he is not willing to pursue.

“No one will give out N100 million to buy Presidential forms from a party he’s not a member of. The primary criterium for parties to sell their forms to you is that you must first be a registered member”, Ahmad said.

My Wife’s Salary Was a Mystery Until I discovered How Much She’s Truly Worth

In 2016 she told me her salary was K950. And then two years later, when she got promoted, I asked about her salary and she said, “Oh these people, don’t mind them. They added only K350 to my old salary. Because of her meager salary, I’ve taken up so many responsibilities in the house without complaint. I pay for utilities and pay for food. I pay the fees of our two kids, clothe them, and take care of their medical bills. When my wife sends me a grocery list, she adds sanitary pads. She buys dresses and clothes, comes to show them to me, and asks me to pay for them. She started talking about a car when our second child came in. Things weren’t good on my side so I asked her to give me some time. She said, “I’ve saved something. I can add it to what you have so you pay me when your money comes.”

I agreed and took that money from her, topped it up to get her a car. For three months my ears never rest. She would wake up at dawn and ask me to pay what I owed her. I got tired and paid the money when I didn’t have much in my account.

One evening, I turned my laptop on and saw a lot of emails. I checked and it was my wife’s email that had been opened. I asked her, “Did you use my laptop?” She answered, “Yeah I was checking something.” I told her, “Then you didn’t log out.” She answered, “I forgot. Please log out for me.” I was about to log out when something caught my attention. I saw a mail with the subject, “January Payslip.” I opened and started going through. When I saw her gross salary, I was shocked.K4,734? And this girl has been crying poverty?

I went through the details. That night I couldn’t sleep. I was angry. I felt let down. I felt cheated. I felt played. We’ve been married for six good years and my wife earned that much without my knowledge? How much she earned didn’t bother me a lot than what she was using that money for. I decided not to talk immediately but rather do a little bit of investigation.

All my life I’ve held the view that it wasn’t right for anyone to go through their partner’s phone. It’s an invasion of privacy and it breeds mistrust in the relationship but that night, going through her phone was the only way to find out what I was looking for. I started with her best friend. Nothing much was found. Her family had a Whatsapp group. I read the messages there. I got few hints. I went through the chat with her father and that was when I realized my wife had bought a piece of land and had started building. Her father was in charge of the project. He had sent photos of the various stages of the building. At some point, her father said, “Thank you for helping out your brother. He would have been home had it not been you.”

She has only one brother—her senior brother. I went to look for the chat between them. Her senior brother lost his job and was home doing nothing so my wife bought him a corolla to be operating as a tax driver. Every week, her brother rendered an account and they split the money. From all indications, my wife was doing well for herself while she plays poor so she could rely on my salary. Why would she do that? I thought I was being a supportive husband so my wife could be proud of the man she married. When we bought land, it was her name and my name that appeared on the land title. That car I bought for her with a loan from her bears her name. I didn’t mind. I believed what’s hers was also mine.

The next morning she realized I wasn’t looking well. I was boiling on the inside but looking for a good opportunity to start the conversation. When I calmed down a little, I asked her, “So why would you do that to me?” She asked, “What have I done?” I answered, “You bought land, you never told me. You started building on it, you never told me. When are you going to tell me?” She was shocked. She asked, “Who told you all that?” I said, “Your father did.” She stood quiet for a while. She asked, “Why would my father tell you all that? What were you people talking about” I said, “I don’t know. You can ask him.”

We left it there. Some minutes later she came to me with her phone: “My father wants to talk to you.” The phone was already on a loudspeaker. His father was clearly angry. He asked, almost shouting, “You said I told you my daughter has a building? Where did I say that and when?” I asked, “Is it not true that my wife has a building project going on that you’re supervising?” He asked me, “I told you that?” I asked, “Is it true or not?” After the back and forth I told them, “I read your messages last night. I saw the pictures. I read the various budget you had sent to my wife. I read the confirmation of the money receipts that you sent her. You’re a man. Would you be happy if your wife does this to you?” He started fumbling. He started apologizing saying he thought I was aware.”

My wife stood there motionless, didn’t know what to say. When her father hung up,

Trust was lost. Love was broken. We had to find a new way of living our lives going forward. Her father called me every morning and evening apologizing for everything and sometimes taking up the blame so I didn’t have to blame his daughter. I told him, “The emotional state I’m in right now, it would be hard to think straight or think forgiveness. Just give me space.” Three days later, they were in our house. The father, the mother, and the senior brother. They came to apologize. “Don’t let this break up the beautiful marriage you both have. If nothing at all, consider the kids and be lenient in your judgment.”

I listened to them. My position was still the same. “I need time to clear my mind. Just leave me alone to think.” From last month to this moment that I’m writing this, my wife had changed totally. She doesn’t ask for money but the house is being run smoothly. She has started paying for things she never paid for but that doesn’t move me. She has taught me a very great lesson and I’m taking it seriously. That in everything, I have to look out for myself and my family first. Last she told me, “If you want us to change the names on those properties, we can do so.” Guess whose name is on the property…her father’s name.”

I told her, “You don’t need to change anything. They are yours. You suffered for them so you can decide what you want to do with them.” The land I bought has our names. I’m selling it and take my money back. The car she’s driving has her name. I put a for-sale sticker on it some weeks ago. She agreed she’ll pay for the car. I’ve given her two months to pay up or I sell it and take my money. She’s getting the message and I’m glad. Each one for himself, God for us all. She keeps asking if I’m going to leave her. I keep telling her I won’t but if she wants a divorce, I will gladly give her. I’m not going to leave the marriage. I would give us some time to heal and see what may happen but when it comes to money, I’ve taken the lesson she taught me through her actions.

This is a sad story:
A man in Kano went to a foodseller.
He had not eaten in 3 days.
He begged the seller for food on credit.

The foodseller said no because he already gave food to too many people on credit.

The man sat down beside the foodseller’s shop as he had nowhere else to go.

The foodseller told him he’s very sorry and he would like to help but too many people in the neighbourhood have collected food on credit and his business is sinking.

The man sat there and said nothing.

As time went on, other people came into the shop to buy foodstuff and went out- they noticed the man at the door sitting there sleeping. But nobody bothered.

Until one man came later in the day and asked the foodseller: “who is the man sitting at your door?” “Why is he there?”

Then the foodseller said “oh it’s a man who says he has not eaten for 3 days and he wants to collect food on credit but I could not give him because my business is struggling from all the credit I have already given out”.

Then the other man said: “How much is the food he wants?”

The food seller said “It’s a few cups of garri, rice and beans. Everything may be 2,000 naira”.

The other man said “Alright pack everything he wants and more. I would pay for it. Let him go home to his family and eat”.

The foodseller packed all the food and went outside to tell the man with joy that someone has paid for his food.

He saw the man still sleeping.
He tapped him to wake him up, he didn’t respond. Tapped him again, nothing.

The man had died.
He died sitting and waiting for help.

This happened just few days ago in Badawa, Kano. Some people who live in that area know this story.

The man was dead all along while people were coming in and out of the shop thinking he was sleeping.

He died hopeless. He died helpless. He died a man who his country failed.

If you know anyone in this period who is hungry around you and you can afford a little food or money to give him/her, please do.

Many people are walking the streets with an empty stomach, a sorry face and are dead within. It’s only a matter of time before they physically die.

Don’t be the one who walks into a store and doesn’t bother to ask about the beggar at the door.

We all have our problems yes,
But our little curiosity may save a life.

THIS LIFE

The day I entered mortuary, what I saw was undescribable.... Human beings laid down on bare floor and stark naked. They were more than fifty. Some were supported by jerry cans, some were placed on bare floor, some on tables and some on plank. Women and Men were together but were stoned dead with their private part uncovered.

When we pushed Dare inside, the attendant removed all the cloth on his body and my leader was stark naked and he was placed on a wood. I looked at him, he could not protest, he could not use his hands to cover his unclothedness and I asked myself, what is this life all about?

�Why are we struggling to possess everything?

�Why are we having pride and ego as if we own the world?

�Why can't we forgive one another and know that vanity over vanity and all is vanity?

See house owners, degree holders, car owners, lying on top of one another naked without shame. See different hair styles on the head of women and here they are stoned dead.

Life is nothing, position is for a while, riches and wealth is temporary. I don't know when am leaving this world but I have an idea of what will happen to me when am no more.

I want to be better than yesterday, I want to be more humble. I want to be more forgiving and I want to be more humane than before because I have seen that life is nothing and death is certain and it is a leveller of status in life.

Let us step on the sand softly as the floor is slippery.

On Sunday been the 30th of April, I bought two cubes of sugar at #10, this morning I went to buy #10 at the normal quantity since as they said the economy is dancing in a way we don't understand, I was surprised when the woman gave me one cube of sugar at #10.
I thought the woman was joking oh, I told her that I want to buy #10 sugar. SHE said that one cube of sugar is now sold at #10 and three cubes of sugar is now sold at #20.

I go church once or twice in a three months.

I had this encounter in year 2020 during the Lock down period (corona virus pandemic period). I am student in the university of Calabar, so due to the lock down we went for break. Even during that period I don't pray or do go to church.

If I can remember in the month of MAY, me and my younger brother were discussing in our boys room after that I wept off.

Then I saw myself walking all of a suden I saw Pastor David Ibiyeomie (G.O of Salvation Ministries) from afar and I ran after Him, He was in my community in the dream, he was (Pastor David Ibiyeomie) about to enter into a super market, before I could reach Him, he as already entered into the supermarket. so I shouted papa papa I have written a song on one of the messages you preached.
He turned and look at me and throw money to me and said that I should pick up the money, all I was shouting was " papa papa I have written a song on one of the messages you preached". Then He (Pastor David Ibiyeomie) Look at my face and said to me "YOU SHALL MAKE IT" He asked me to say AMEN to it.
As I said Amen to what He said. The phase of the dream changed.
I saw myself walking down the street with His Wife (MRS PEACE IBIYEOMIE). She was asking now that you have written the songs what are you going to do with them, As I was about to reply Her, I now woke up from my sleep.

I was surprised to see A man of God in my dream and His Wife in thesame dream, Me that is not even going to church often.
To be honest I prayed about the dream I had (for a long time I have not prayed like that)

Something in me was disturbing and telling me that This dream is not ordinary.

So I went to the backyard of our house and I prayed to God that "if this dream is from you give me a song" before the dream I have written only one song. and I was not that serious with it.
After I prayed that prayed to my greatest surprise "I got two new songs from that very instant".
From that day till now I am getting songs at ease. I have gotten over 200 (Two Hundred) gospel songs.

But I have not recorded any in a music studio which makes me feel discouraged anytime I got a new song.

I tried to stop writing songs due to no sponsor but Anytime I try to stop I don't have this peace of mind.

Compare that to a poor country called Nigeria. APC decided to set the price of governorship at $85,470 (50 million naira). That is 16 times more than what is paid in USA. While that of president set at 170,940 US dollars (100 million naira) is 34 times more than what is paid in USA.

Until INEC sets a REASONABLE limit on how much political parties can charge, this ridiculous trend will continue.
