Jobs/Vacancies / Re: My Incompetence Just Cost Me A Job, I Feel Worthless by Ayinke93(f): 8:53pm On Mar 15, 2022
Supremedrizzy:
Someone gave me a simple job of making an existing static site template responsive within 24 hours and I blew it. A simple task that should take few hours, it looked all good on my localhost only to test it on netlify and it turned out to be a disaster. I'm just so ashamed of myself.

I've been learning web dev since mid last year though its been a case of one month on three months off, I've been grossly inconsistent due circumstances beyond my control. I haven't even coded this year because I come back from my menial hustles with battered bones and weak muscles. You can imagine trying to code after offloading a trailer load of cement all day. I even had to use bet shops around for the gig amidst the pangs of hunger I felt while working coupled with the noisy and distracting environment I was working in which contributed to my legendary blunder.

At the age of 30 and unemployed I've always seen programming as my way out of poverty but it seems I'm not good enough. I'm painfully watching that little flicker of hope fizzle out before my tearful eyes. Which other skill can I dabble into product design?? I suck at designs reason why my frontend skills is below average... should I try backend?? I'm just confused, frustrated and down casted not knowing the next step to take while time is no longer on my side.

Life currently has no meaning and direction to me, I just seem to be flowing aimlessly with the flow. My situation is giving me sleepless nights and I now rely on drugs to sleep for even three hours a day.

I really need someone to talk to, I'm really tired of trying to work out things on my own. I'm 30, broke, lonely and depressed, single has been a constant in my life's equation cos I don't even like myself for who I am presently so I don't expect someone's daughter to like me in this my miserable state.

Someone should please show me the way, this dark tunnel is fast turning to a maze that I can't navigate on my own.

Omg I wish I could meet you and give you a hug. It’s all going to be fine trust me. The right step in the right direction is what you are doing already and trust me it takes a bit of time. Just keep pushing. I once made the same responsiveness issue in an interview and that has to be the fastest rejection I’ve ever received. It gets better.
If you don’t mind you can send me a dm and we can talk on phone. All the best.

For your child to say you should stop shouting at him actually shows disrespect.

Correct that!

Interesting. This is how you raise push arounds. Children are not items and they have feelings too. And as parents, you should be willing to take feedbacks too. I really hope she listens and stops shouting at him.

Health / Re: Please Help! I Forget Things Easily, Do I Have A Medical Condition? by Ayinke93(f): 2:49pm On Mar 04, 2022
FavourWrites:
Please help me Nairalander! Do I have a medical problem? Why do I forget things a lot?

Here’s the thing, I am someone who forgets things a lot. This may not sound like a big deal to you, but this problem is ruining the relationship I have with people.

There’ll be times when my friends would call telling me to do stuff for them, and the next day when we meet and they ask for the feedback, I’ll be there looking stupid because I didn’t remember them calling me at all. This is a problem because most times they think I faking the fact that I failed to remember.

I’ll be nineteen in a few months but I’m seriously worried for myself. I’m the kind of person who buys about three PEN every single day because I always forget where I dropped the last ones.

Don’t get me wrong, I do well in school, I currently have a 4.8 CGPA. The things I’m taught in school always seem to stick in my head, but every other thing doesn’t.

I have lost a lot of valuable friends because of this. Yes! It’s that bad.

There was a time I had a huge quarrel with a toxic friend, we ended up breaking up our friendship. But when the next semester began, I started wondering why she wasn’t talking to me. I tried approaching her but she ignored me.

I didn’t understand her behavior until the day I was flipping through my diary where I read that I had quarreled with her.

Please, I need help! My mum complains a lot about my behavior! Do I have a medical condition?

This problem is so bad that I had to buy a bracelet that connects my phone to my hand because I have lost count of how many times my phone slipped out of my hands.
If not for the sound that my phone makes when it hits the floor, I never would have known that it slipped off my hands.

I can’t write all of the experiences I’ve had, but please I need help! I’m tired of carrying a book Jotter/planner around, and I’m tired of setting an alarm for something small like “TAKE THE CUP BACK TO THE KITCHEN".

HELP ME!

Sounds like ADHD to me. Try to get properly diagnosed. I suffer from it too and it’s not as serious as you think when properly managed. See a psychologist

....Your friend is very lazy and entitled. If he doesn't want the job he should get out and allow someone else take his position.

I'm a boss and right now I have a project in the east that the state government gave me 3 weeks to complete.I and my worker have been working tirelessly day and night without any sleep so we can complete the road project and I ve not died. Lazy fool. Let him go and establish his own company and become a boss too.

Slave traders like you in positions of authority is the reason the country is the way it is. So even if you've not slept in a year, are your workers going to get the same money you are getting from that project? if you have a stiff deadline, are there ways to properly rotate and schedule your tasks without burning out your workers? I'm very sure you don't even pay them livable wages. nonsense

since your friend believe he can get a better job, let him leave so that someone grateful will get that job!

life aint easy and if you think that you can dictate how your boss can treat you, then you better wake up from your daze.

It's okay if you don't have any form of self-worth, but stop expressing stupid opinions on the internet. What do you mean by someone grateful? do you understand that an employer and employee are mutually benefitting from each other and no boss has the right to treat people unfairly? I don't know if it's the poverty in the country that has really damaged the state of mind of people and self-worth. It's sad.

Did you have prior coding knowledge before switching?
I'm not currently employed and that's because i'm tired of just doing anything to earn a living
I'm looking for a mentor at the moment cos each time i go on youtube, i just get stucked.
I badly need a teacher who will guide me, send me exercises and projects to do, tell me how to achieve a certain task, etc.
Self teaching is really not easy, especially for something as mentally tasking as coding.
Finally, will you be my teacher?
Send me DM

Until women begin to realise that they need to be more useful than merely offering their body, or quit the mentality that every men treat their body like it's an asset, they deserve this kind of treatment.

Women should know that the body is physical and can be easily replaced with physical elements.

But you see your inner value, it can never be replaced, if you concentrate on making your body the main point of attraction while neglecting your inner qualities, you will be competing with these intimacy gadgets, and you can never beat them. But a valuable woman, no man can replace. Give value to yourself.

How are you useful yourself Mr man? I hear a lot of women are useless bants and it's always from people like you that bring no inherent value to a relationship except your toxic masculinity and ego. I will appreciate it if you explain in detail the exact value you are capable of giving a partner in a relationship, except money that you most likely don't even have. oshi

1. So after all ìs said and done, you are telling us that you want the women you love to hate on and blame all your woes on? undecided

You are having us believe isn't necessarily the women but the fact that you can't help but whine and complain about them? undecided

I mean here is an alternative to help rid you of the women you love to hate, giving you the freedom of having a body built in the female image for you to play around and enjoy all by yourself, yet you are saying no to it? undecided

2. Sounds more like you enjoy having something to whine about there. undecided

It’s hilarious that none of them could see through your sarcasm grin . Proof that most redpillers are dull and only seek a sense of importance from women hence why they are so bitter.

There's one here that says that frontend development can be done by drag and drop tools. When I read such things I just laugh. I don't even bother responding to such ignorance.

Had to add in number 8. A lot of people talk about looking for jobs on LinkedIn and only sprinkle 1 or 2 applications here and there and get discouraged. Note that I applied to over 200 jobs in 2 weeks and got less than five call backs and 2 offers. Just calculate the success margin. In the end, it's a game of numbers.

Had to add in the LinkedIn application part

Romance / Re: I'm A 21 Year Old Virgin And This Sucks by Ayinke93(f): 1:12am On Feb 27, 2022
Anonymous03:
I'm a 21 year old virgin , a final year student in Babcock University and I created this new account to ensure anonymity.
People say I'm good looking but I don't see such when I look into the mirror.
Girls love to associate with me ( Note; I don't spend) but none is ready to get down with me. Girls flirt with me a lot but they would never have sex with me.
Some of the girls willingly sleep with guys that are less cute and not rich, yet they deny me sex but still cling on me even when I try to caught them off.

Most of these girls are act naughty with boys but they suddenly become saint and holy when it gets to my turn.

I almost begged for sex at one point and I don't want to patronize sex workers.
Where am I getting it wrong? How can I sexually attract girls? Do I need to dress like a pop star?

I solicit for your advice.

And yet another INCEL is born grin. Girls don’t owe you sex. Work on yourself and build your career, hopefully someone will like you enough. And if not, don’t add salt to injury by joining these frustrated misogynistic redpillers on the internet. It’ll only had salt to injury as most of them are sexually starved and depressed grin

I am glad you finally put it up for the naysayers. It's not even up to 6 months and you already have a job. When I say the same thing people will say it's not possible. Others will say the industry is oversaturated and that there's billions of Indian coders.
I think the funniest one is advising people to avoid frontend development grin grin. It's funny cause with my little experience, the demand is insane. Nigerian companies are especially starved of developers because all the experienced developers are doing remote jobs and the have to make do of the 1+ years of experience people in the country.
Programming / Transition To Tech, It's Worth It! by Ayinke93(f): 11:30pm On Feb 26, 2022
I created this thread to encourage someone going through the pain of transitioning to tech at the moment and to remind them that they are making a decision their future self will thank you for. Sometimes in June last year, I resigned from my job at a Nigerian bank to take up a 30K internship as a software developer. To be honest, that's easily the best decision I've made in my entire life. This month I got offers worth more than 5 times what I was earning at the bank after applying for jobs for just about 2 weeks. and I have not even spent up to a year in the industry. I'm going to outline some of the steps I took below:

1. If possible, get an internship: I know this can be difficult, but trust me, the experience accelerated my learning. One thing that helped with the two internships I got within the period I started was networking. Tell everybody you know about your plans, you don't know who might be willing to help.

2. Intense focus: I stayed off social media for over 6 months during the period I was learning. Trust me, this is not the time for distractions and frivolous activities.

3. Practice and build projects: I can’t emphasize this enough. Build projects and put them on your GitHub because some recruiters check your git. In one job I got, the interviewer was very excited about one web scraping project I did in my very early days. Sincerely, I had no idea that the project could help me in any way. So please, build and push to GitHub every time.

4. Redo your resume and LinkedIn: You want your resume to reflect that you've been working in tech. Nobody cares about the customer service job you did in 2015. Also, LinkedIn is the best place to get jobs, and I feel so many people underutilize it.

5. Get a mentor: to be honest, I couldn't have gotten anywhere without the solid mentorship around me. You need to have someone you look up to in this industry because they have more experience than you and the guide will take you far. Just show interest, be teachable, be hardworking and let your mentor see that you are motivated. You'll be surprised at how kind people are.

6. Network! Network! Network!: see I can't overemphasize this. you need people to grow. I surrounded myself with tech people, and I can't count the number of times random things I picked from conversations came up in my interviews.

7. Stay curious and stay motivated. The sky is the starting point.

Keep grinding and grind hard.

Lastly, I’m not going to lie, transitioning to tech will test your sanity and I mean that with all seriousness. This is a link to a thread I created in December; https://www.nairaland.com/6887200/learning-code-hard,  but trust me, it’s worth it. Rooting for you all!

Seeing some courses here and I’m just laughing. Tbh OP if you know what’s good for you, study computer science, master data structures and algorithm while you are in school, come out and see how high paying jobs will be rushing you. Ignore everything and do this and watch yourself come out of poverty. Those people mentioning biochemistry, microbiology, geology and the likes hate you and want you to die in poverty.
