One day, I was approaching the GTBank ATM gallery to make withdrawals. I was greeted by a very long queue of which had no choice but to fall into the queue. I had a class to attend in the next 15 mins. Within my first minute of waiting, I observed the following: 1. There were 28 people standing before me 2. There was 3 ATM machines 3. People made use of only 2 out of the 3 machines 4. The third machine was not used because people “believe” it was not working fine 5. No one on the queue had tried using the third machine 6. Every other person on the queue was afraid of using the third machine 7. If each person spends an average of 2 mins on the machine, I will have to wait for about 28 mins 8. If I wait for 27 mins, I may have to miss my class Based on the above, I concluded that people prefer to play safe by not trying anything new. People prefer to wait for someone who will bell the cat. This is the main reason why so many people don’t make it in life. Only a few people attempt to do something new. People will want to wait for others to venture into a business so that they can be sure if the business is worthwhile or not. Unfortunately, only the first set of people in a particular line of business get to reach the top. My teacher will always say, “Every profession is crowded but crowded at the bottom!” The “sachet water business” is a valid example. Almost every tom, dick and harry is into it and it means less returns for the many people in the business today because the first set of people in the business have already made their money and are now into something new. My message is this, don’t play safe! Don’t wait for someone to try something before you venture into it. Be the first to make attempt. Be optimistic. Be positive. Now, let me tell you what I did, I went to the neglected ATM machine while some people on the queue were even discouraging me. I made my withdrawal successfully. I achieved the following: 1. I put a “wow” on people’s faces 2. I opened the way for others 3. I became a hero 4. Most of all, I saved about 25 mins of my time. You too can be smart today! Goodmorning 3 Likes |
