EMS officials tend to clear a package for pickup before the owner receives it.

Hi Peeps. I'm expecting a package from USA and was notified of attempted delivery and that it's being held at the post office. Location was not given . Just this morning before we could make it to the closest post office which is quite far. We tracked and where notified that it has being picked up delivered.. That the addressee requested for own pickup.
How do I handle this issue

I was told it didn't get to Nigeria and the funny thing is the fact that it was neither returned to the sender.
